We were celebrating my Mom's 90th Birthday and decided to go to Nutwood. Since our Mom does not eat a lot, I decided to share the chicken dinner with her. We could not eat it because it was so salty it was absolutely disgusting. We told our waitress and the only thing she did was say I am sorry, I will tell the chef. For 6 people at over $200.00 and 1 meal was un-eatable, they did not even offer to delete the cost of the $29.00 meal. I can assure you that we will never go back to Nutwood. I don't mind paying for a good meal, as long as the meal is worth it and this was not. read more

Went into Nutwood for the opening night and the food was absolute perfection!! Try ANYTHING and you won't be disappointed. A few of my personal favorites were the fresh ricotta, sea salt, honey and sour dough - the perfect combination of sweet and salty for a starter. I also loved the local tomato and stracciatella, the perfect twist on a traditional plate. I also had a taste of the octopus and it was also delicious! Went to Nutwood for a family dinner and our experience exceeded all expectations. Great service, atmosphere, and an overall amazing dinner! We wanted to try everything on the menu, my husband and I shared 3 small courses and 1 entree and it was plenty! Excellent ingredients, we enjoyed it all! The ricotta/honey toast is a must! The kids meals were delicious and they finished everything. Of course we needed to end our meal w 2 desserts! The food was absolutely amazing and prepared to perfection. Chef Rojas definitely delivered superb, fresh plates. My skirt steak was cooked rare to medium rare and was just delicious. The grilled octopus was out of this world as was the fresh ricotta with honey on grilled sourdough bread. I cannot wait to go back (next week). Ecstatic Winter Haven finally has something this good. Very disappointed. This was our first time trying this restaurant and we've always heard great things. We came for brunch and ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken was undercooked and we couldn't bare to eat the new plate that came out. We felt rushed out of the restaurant. Holy cow the brunch here is awesome! I've been twice and had the Croissant Benedict once and the Avocado Toast once - both were exceptional! The inside of the restaurant is, how can I put this, um... kind of dirty... the walls and window sills and baseboards all need to be washed or at least painted. The other knock is that sodas are from cans and they charge $3 each for them. But the food is great enough that I still had to leave a five star review. read more

The restaurant is in a charming old home and it would be much more lovely with some color on the walls or at least pictures to break up the white. Grilled octopus was tender and delicious, bone-in pork chop was lean and thick, black-eyed peas the best we'd ever had, snapper with coconut curry was amazing, bread pudding was warm and moist. We are every scrap of food and even used a spoon to scoop all the coconut curry sauce. Absolutely amazing flavors and friendly, knowledgeable server. We had our first experience at Nutwood today for lunch. Our server was very good...unfortunately I did not get her name. She knew the menu very well and was well versed regarding the sparkling wine we ordered and the preparation of the items in the menu. The food was amazing! Hand cut hamburger with chef made condiments, mussels that were out of this world and pork belly lettuce wraps. The atmosphere was minimalist but very comfortable. I plan to go back in the evening and enjoy the outdoor dining area which looks very comfortable with strings on Edison lights and plants. read more

A recent lunch date with a friend brought us a very unique dining experience in THE HAVEN. Just wow from the wine sampling to the warm bread pudding. Rice Bowl with chicken- so many flavors paired with a nice buttery Chard. I can not wait to return for another dining experience. Chef Steve and his wife were so delightful. Four of us were headed to Winter Haven to see a play. None of us had spent any time in Winter Haven so we were flying blind for dinner. I checked Yelp and Nutwood had 5 stars and raves. So, we thought "why not?" and went for it. The restaurant is in a converted house, which gives it a nice, homey feel, but might lack "elegance" for some people. Quick tip - no light and dark wood is not elegant. It's just dark. This is bright and open, if perhaps a bit stark. We were greeted warmly and sat immediately. (We had reservations but didn't need them.) We started with ricotta and honey on sourdough. Wonderful. The honey wasn't overpowering, and the ricotta was rich but not dense. My date and I split a plate of fish over rice in curry. Delightful. Our counterparts had small plates of mussels with shallots, and grilled octopus. The mussels were perfectly cooked. But the octopus. Holy cephalopod, the octopus. Rich, tender, smoky. The stand out dish. My fish was great but I regretted not getting that octopus the rest of the evening. The only downside was not having enough time for dessert. We also noted that they have Saturday brunch, which will necessitate another trip from Orlando down to Winter Haven. I hope the locals support this gem of a restaurant because it's one of the best in Central Florida. read more

Absolutely fantastic the best food I've had in a long time. Try the Portobello sandwich with Kale salad, an unbelievable secret Chef sauce on the salad. I recently tried out this new restaurant in downtown Winter Haven and came away highly impressed. I had the skirt steak and it came with potatoes and kale. The person I was with had the chicken. Both dishes were amazing! It is a very nice atmosphere and a great place to go sit on the front deck when the weather is nice. It is a smaller menu which I think they change fairly often. Pretentious eatery with very limited food options. I am not able to eat gluten and asked what they could do for me at lunch and the surly waitress said I could have a salad without croutons and a side of bacon, sausage or ham. So I ordered a kale salad with a side of crispy bacon. The small kale salad had all of three ingredients, kale, lots of mustard seeds and eight very thin slices of unripe tasteless plum covered in a really sour vinaigrette. Owner turned a house into a restaurant. It was a little hard to find. I honestly forgot what my dish was called ,all I remember is that it was chicken. Talk about bland, goodness. I'm a Winter Haven native and work as a chef in New York City. I was stunned and thrilled to have the best dinner I've ever had in Winter Haven last night after years of wishing a restaurant like this would one day open here for my trips home. My steak and kale salad were perfectly executed. Also, Chef did an amazing job addressing my need for substitutions due to a ketogenic diet I'm on for my intractable epilepsy. I know from personal experience it can be frustrating to have a plate's creative integrity disrupted. This allowed me to enjoy a glass of wine, which I can only have if the rest of my meal is extremely low to no carb. To top it all off, our waitress was stellar. Thank you so much, Nutwood.
