The worst roofing company in the Bay Area. If you have unlimited time, unlimted patience, willing to get misdirected by multiple people then this is the company for you. Back in October I had a NuShake come out to my house. I signed a restoration contract within the week and paid the 10% deposit. NuShake shows up to start the restore in late November, as stated on the contract. It is windy, no one feels safe getting on the roof. No problem. December comes, some employees show up at my house then say the pitch on my roof is too steep (steeper than the NuShake estimator said) so they don't feel safe. They go back to the offices. Two weeks pass, no word from NuShake. On my way to a meeting I stop by NuShake offices..it is now mid December. Speak with Art Rice and he tells me someone will be at my house the following day by 10 am to set a plan in place. 10am comes the next day, no one is there. I called Art and he said someone is on their way.... I called NuShake numerous times over the holidays and could not get an answer. Beginning of the year...no word from NuShake. Finally I speak with Zach Green. He comes out. It is now mid January. He tells me he will be at my house the following week to do a quick repair...a shim job, which I agree with. I call Zach on Tuesday and he is in Hawaii. Immediately I call Art and he said he will have people at my house tomorrow (meaning Wednesday). Wednesday comes and no one is at my house. I call Art and he said he called Zach. Now the rains are coming and my roof is not fixed. Summation: Paid the deposit, have been very patient, took the initiative to go to NuShake offices to express concern.....3.5 months later no roof repairs. read more

After a local roofing company did a poor job installing the flashings on my roof, I called NuShake for an estimate on an unfinished repair job. David A. came out and took a look at the roof, and said that the fix was small enough that he would just take care of it at no charge!!! He was very helpful in answering any questions that I had. He also wrote up an estimate for the repairs that the other company tried to cover up. We had a good experience dealing with them and I highly recommend calling NuShake for any repairs, or estimates on any future roof jobs. read more

After sharing my original review with NuShake in response to a customer satisfaction survey we received, my husband was contacted by the business with an offer to replace the skylight that we thought would be replaced as part of the original scope of work (item 5 in my original review). We accepted their offer and the new skylight was measured, purchased, and installed within 2 days. I raised my rating from 1 star to 3; while I do appreciate the company's attempt to make the skylight issue right, the rest of the issues that came up during the original roof installation are not things that can be corrected after the fact. read more

Great company to work with. Work was done on time. Start to finish was an easy process. Every crew that came out was great. We did have one problem with find old nails which was fixed right away and the rest of the crews made sure everything was picked at the end of the day. The guys did our roof during the bad heat wave last summer so I figured it would take longer since it was so hot. I did make sure to provide nice cold water since it was so hot, and made sure the guys knew where it was and if they needed more to just ask me. read more

The salesman explained every thing to me in advance and described all my choices clearly. We own a few rentals and after using a few different companies thru the years we first used Nu Shake two years ago for a reroof, their bid was competitive and they had been recommended by a neighbor. We have now had them reroof two rentals and patch a leak in one rental and they just patched a leak in our home. We like them because of their competitive pricing, work speed and quality and they could have tried to talk us into replacing the roof on our two patch jobs. They attributed the one leak to a new air conditioner installation on the roof of the rental and patched it correcting the leak, they patched our house and told us our house still had a few years to go before it needed to be reroofed. Our experience has been very positive from pricing, promptness, quality of work and work ethic of workers. We have always checked in on the work jobs and not only have we been happy but the tenants at our rentals have been happy with results, crew, and clean up. To me it is like finding a good trustworthy car mechanic, when you find one you keep them! read more

Three stars is not representative of the labor thus far, it's for that feeling of being Nickeled and Dimed to a depleted budget! Was given a bid, and told I would get a 3% discount for cash (but sales guy offered talk to owner and ask for 5% because this is the 4th roof these guys have installed for me (different houses). When I committed, and finally got to the shop to make my $1k deposit, and was told there was a (3%) surcharge for credit cards!! In my opinion, this makes a 6% difference in what I thought I was committing to (no 3% discount off quote & and additional 3% for not paying cash!) I feel schnookered, and have already warned a friend that asked for a referral not to trust the bid if he gets one from them. Now, halfway through the project, just before putting the last side of plywood down, the job is being quoted for Dry Rot (legit but late) But was also told the facia board is not included in the quote! Uhrgggg! Thinking I should've sucked it up and used Drummond - higher quote, but all inclusive for the job needed (dry rot extra, of course). At first, all seemed o.k. They came out to give an estimate. The estimate seemed reasonable. My husband went down on a Friday afternoon and signed the contract and paid the required 10% deposit. From there, it went downhill. The people who took the contract had no idea when the job would be completed. "Someone would call us on Monday" was what he was told. Wish I kept track of how many times "someone would call" was told to us. After my husband called multiple times, we finally heard that there were many jobs ahead of us. Three weeks later, we called to find out a time line for when the job would be completed. "Someone would call"...Well, no one ever called. Finally I had enough and asked to speak to a supervisor or I was going to cancel the contract. Cecil promised the job would be completed by the end of the next week. Well, after many phone calls and no one returning the call, we finally cancelled the contract. What a joke. They do not have good customer service or communication within the company. Please save yourself time and $$. Use someone else. BTW I got someone to come out and he fixed it in 25 minutes and charged $125.00. read more

My ceiling started to leak so I had Doug come out and give me another estimate as it had been over a year since the last time he had given me an estimate (see my previous review on 04/17/12). I had gotten about 4-5 estimates for a new roof and gutters this time around and Nu Shake was the cheapest by a lot. The roofers did a great job and my roof looks beautiful! They did not cut corners at all. Part of the front of my house did not have gutters when I purchased the home and it would give a "waterfall effect" when it rained. My house guests would get drenched trying to get to my front door when visiting me; it was embarrassing! I didn't mention the waterfall issue when I got my estimate so when my gutters were put up and it rained the following week, I thought it would be too late to mention it to Nu Shake. I made a quick phone call and spoke with the gutters manager, sent a photo and video of where exactly it was happening, and he was able to add a few feet of gutters to fix the problem at no additional charge! I believe this company went above and beyond to make me happy from my first encounter to now. I highly recommend Nu Shake. read more

After several estimates to replace our roof, we decided to go with Nushake. However, after 3 attempts to contact them and schedule for the work to be done no one has returned our 2 calls and 1 email. On my second phone call, I even told the person who happened to answer the phone that if for some reason they were not interested in doing the job for whatever reason to let me know ASAP. She assured me someone would be in contact..... that was MONTHS ago. I recieved a letter in the mail last week stating that I recieved an estimate within the last year and if I wished to have the work done still to let them know and blah blah blah. Obviously sent to generate business. I emailed them that YES I'm interested and wanting to schedule something right away. I got a response within 5 min that she would look into my file and get back to me right away. That was a week ago. I will take my hard earned money elsewhere now. I'm not sure if they even contacted me at this point I would trust them. Too bad too, they came recommended and had the best bid! read more

Nu Shake just replaced my roof and gutters. The work was done beautifully and the house looked a lot newer. I lived in a planned development neighborhood and the HOA has very strict rules on the materials, look, etc. Nu Shake did many houses in the neighborhood and their work satisfied the HOA. Nu Shake also handled the City permit from start to finish and I did not need to worry about dealing with bureaucrats. To me, price, material and workmanship are the most important. Nu Shake excelled on all three. I therefore rated them 5-star. However, you do have to wait quite some time for the work to be done (due to many customers waiting in line and disrupting rains). This is typical for popular small businesses. You also cannot expect pampering by the staff informing you on everything before and after everything. If you want a roofing/gutter contractor that will give you an excellent price, do beautiful work and correct any things you deemed unsatisfactory, Nu Shake is a wonderful choice. Nu Shake roofed our house a few months ago. I had a feeling when they loaded shingles onto a roof that hadn't been torn off yet we might encounter some problems with them. First call back was facing boards didn't meet ends of headers among other things. When the rains came it poured in and they had to fix Sheetrock. They blamed a/c guys a/c guys blamed them. But it didn't leak before. Ok. Then when came to put on gutters instead of having lip on gutter like ordered they stuck drip edges under newly roofed house and installed no lip gutters. .Then gutter behind garage flowed away from downspout and going behind facing. Nothing was going down downspout. Came out 3 times and I guess don't want to come out anymore because haven't heard anymore after The front of garage leaked down onto 2 x 4 's inside in 3 places. Evidently water is coming back up under shingles. Or something. They will hav to address this sooner or later when more rains come. read more
