So my hubbs had left for work and I was all alone to eat whatever in whichever order I wanted. It a beautifully chilly, sunny day and I strolled my bundled up ass down 32nd to get myself breakfast. I was surveying the area and figured i'd grab myself an appetizer at Nuchas. I asked for the bacon egg and cheese empanada, but they had already run out. Hmm no other real breakfast-y option so I did what any other foodie would do. I got myself a short rib empanada with a hot cortado. Hmm. the empanada was okay. I suppose I may be somewhat partial to empanadas I've had in CA. The shortrib was flavorful but a very miniscule amount had been engulfed by the baked dough. The coffee was strong and kicky! Not bad, just not something I'd crave.

Located conveniently at the south end of the square, this outpost doles out some quick eats at an agreeable price-point. Sunday afternoon, no one in line as we needed something fast while waiting for our Uber to show up. Opted against a meal; instead just ordering a single Argentine Empanada ($4). Food comes out within 2 minutes and served with a choice of hot sauce. the empanada itself is bigger than their counterparts at Mama's empanadas, while also being slightly toasted/flaky on the outside. Not too hot, easy to eat, and the hot sauce works well with the meat inside. Extra sauce costs extra so have to be a little stingy on the pours. Wouldn't wait in line if there was a crowd, but a perfect to-go spot if in the area.

My unfinished spicy cheese(L) and the short rib(R) empanadas. Not the best.

Spicy cheese wasn't spicy nor cheesy. It tasted like that fake cheese on bagel bites. The caramelized onions overpowered everything. The spicy short rib tasted kinda gross. I regretted buying it as soon as I took the first bite. The spicy chicken was better. Unfortunately it wasn't anything to really have me coming back for more. I'd skip this place.

I first got to know about them couple of years ago at dumbo festival as I tasted the best empanada from a food truck. Leaping many years ahead; I am glad that they have a permanent stall by koreatown close to Penn station; however this time the chicken empanada did not live up to the standard. The flavors were mild compared to my previous experience and while I was biting on the empanada and the juices spilled on my shirt. Was the chicken supposed to be so saucy? Well I am not an argentinan food expert; however this place did not live up to my standard.

This is an empanada stand in Greeley Square outside the 33rd street subway station. I got the Argentine beef and portobello mushroom empanadas. The Argentine was oily but tasted OK. The Portobello was tasty and I would recommend that one. Not the best empanada place in the city but not a bad place to get a quick bite to eat.

Portobello mushroom empanada. It was so good, I devoured it in 2 bites!!!

Nuchas is the bomb!!! I'm sitting right now across from them, in Greeley Square! I highly recommend the Portobello mushroom empanada. DELICIOUS. Buttery, flakey and moist! No sauce required. If you buy 3 empanadas, there is a $1 off. I will try their coffee next time. This is amazing. Guaranteed.

Portobello Mushroom Empanada! Delicious!

Just stopped here for my "Meal Pass" lunch of the day. It's a counter/ stand between the streets by broadway and 32nd. It's a cute little stand and the lady in the counter was very pleasant. I got two Portobello Mushroom Empanadas that I was going to eat once I got back to work. However, they were the perfect temperature so I proceeded to eat them on the walk back to the office. They were warm, delicious, a tiny bit spicy, and super easy to eat on the go. I ended up eating both of them before I even got 5 blocks away. I am definately going back and trying their other empanadas!

If you love empanadas then you will love Nuchas. This place has some of the best empanadas in the area hands down! They bake their empanadas so you don't feel as guilty for eating 3 or 5. The dough to filling ratio is perfect and they are always piping hot fresh from the oven. I love that they are located in a little park so you can eat and enjoy the outdoors a bit. There has never been a long line when I show up which is nice if you're in a hurry and have a short break. I usually run here from job nearby and grab my favorite chicken or argentine empanadas. They even have a dessert flavored one that is yummy! I definitely recommend everyone to try this spot if you're in the area. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Stopped by because I won these random vouchers. 3 empanadas for $10 or 1 for $4. Surprisingly tastier than I thought it would be. The portobello spinach is my favorite. (This is coming from meat eaters!) Super moist and delicious. The short rib and chicken are kind of a disappointment. A bit small for the price. Pretty okay but probably wouldn't have gone if I didn't have the vouchers.

Maybe my hands are big ..... But here's a size comparison.

The empanadas themselves are small --but yummy--it's a little snack that helps you get to dinner. Got the Spicy Chicken, which wasn't actually that spicy, though I could imagine if you have a very low tolerance it might be spicy. Finished it in 3 minutes or less. Partly because it was tasty, but also because it's small. I want to try them all eventually--the 3/$8 deal makes this an easily possible feat.

Delicious. I loved the portobello mushroom and the Italian sausage. Crunchy on the outside and so much flavor on the inside.

We got there at 6 and for a while it was quiet -- great ambience, very comfortable and lovely staff. Then it filled UP and got a bit louder, but not too loud that we couldn't still have a conversation. We weren't super hungry, so can only comment on a few dishes, but what we had we really enjoyed: My friend ordered the grilled chicken breast -- which is just that: grilled chicken with a wedge of lemon -- so you need to order a salad or a side if you want veggies with that. I had the steak salad, which was EXCELLENT -- the steak was marinated in soy sauce and cooked through with onions, and then combinated with greens, tomatoes, avocado and balsamic vinaigrette. Topped the meal off with a shared dish of Swiss Chocolate ice cream, which was just perfect. For all that, plus a cocktail I had at the beginning, the bill came to around $100 before tip -- which is very good for NYC, especially in that area. I definitely would like to return and try more of their menu!
