They're tiny, and $4. Being in NYC allows you the convenience of accessing cheap and authentic food on a whim. These are not cheap, and from my prior experience, not authentic either. The food I ordered the spicy chicken, the argentine and the short rib. The spicy chicken. It's just meh. Not too spicy, not too salty, not too sweet, not too anything. The argentine. These are perfect street food - easy to walk with, relatively cheap, and resourcefully delicious pockets of yum! Affordable, quick, and delicious snacks that you really can't go wrong with. They opened a new spot in Times Square you can pick and spot and people watch or eat while walking over to catch your Broadway play. I like that it is easy to bring around and you can eat these baked treats anywhere you go. I tried 4 different kinds of savory empanadas and one sweet - the Argentine, Spicy Chicken, Spicy Cheese and Short Rib. It's 3 for $9.99, which is a pretty good deal in NYC. While the Spicy Chicken was quite mild, it was still delicious. The Argentine was my favorite though. The empanadas are juicy and flavorful. The Apple, Cranberry & Nutella Empanada had just the right amount of sweetness. I wish there was more kick to the savory flavors but overall a great snack. As we were walking through Times Square We Came Upon This little pop-up Empanada spot. We grabbed two to go as we were walking. I was glad they had a vegetarian option for my daughter. She got the curried mushroom empanada which was quite tasty. We also got a beef empanadas. Both empanadas how to delicious crust with very tasty, and well-seasoned fillings. For being Times Square, it's a little odd that most food places close by midnight. I was able to find this empanada stand in the heart of Times Square, right before it closed. My options were limited and I was starving. I ordered two chicken empanadas, only because they ran out of beef. It was cool they served beer, but only Coronas and some IPA I've never heard of. Unwrapping the empanadas, they were soooo TINY! It says their empanadas are award winning... they might have won the award for smallest empanadas. The chicken empanadas were actually flavorful with a hint of spice. I could have eaten about 20 of them and still would have been hungry. You don't get much bang for your buck here, but it's more of a desperation play if the clock is about to strike 12 and you are starving. At Nuchas, the menu is simple, it's ALL empanadas and they are ranked from most to least popular (top to bottom) for each category of empanadas - Meat, Veggie and Sweet. Since it was 3 empanadas for a $8, I decided to get my bang for the buck (It's 1 for $3). If you have a big appetite then you'll be a bit disappointed as the empanadas are pretty small. I ordered the 2 most popular meat options (Argentine and Spicy Chicken) and the most popular veggie option (Portobello). All of them were soft and had plenty of filling. For each one, I got a good taste of the flavors. Surprisingly, my favorite out of the 3 was the Portobello, mostly because I love mushrooms mixed with spinach and cheese! Their empanadas are quick, flavorful, and easy to eat, whether you're sitting in one of the pedestrian plazas or eating on the go. My favorite is the Argentine, filled with beef, onions, peppers, scallions, potatoes, and olives, and I'm also a fan of the chipotle chicken which comes with peppers, tomatoes, and onions in their paprika dough. It is a food truck and you MUST try Nuchas if you are at Times Square. Amazing food and the great staff at the counter. The place shares the common seating area at Times Square, so there is no dedicated seating area but there are plenty of tables, so you don't really have to worry. We tried Portobello Empanadas (Veggie) and Apple, Cranberry & Nutella Empanadas (Sweet). We liked the later one more than the former but both of them were great. I am quite sure they would be making amazing meat empanadas as well. Medialunas (Argentine sweet croissant) is another must try. The staff was good and friendly. There are a couple of Nuchas Argentine Empanada stands in New York - one in Herald Square and one in Times Square. I recently stopped by the one in Times Square for a quick snack and ordered the Argentine empanada. I asked for a side of spicy sauce which they provided. The food truck was parked this time right inside of Bryant Park on the 5th Ave side so was super excited to catch them! I unfortunately got there a little too late from their lunch rush and so no short rib or spicy cheese were available...But the truck guys were super apologetic and nice and offered me a free sweet empananda. I tried Nuchas out after seeing them on Shark Tank! I was so pumped to learn that one of their locations was close to my office. So I literally went the next day to try. I don't know if I was just hyped after seeing them on the show or what, but I was slightly underwhelmed. I tried 2 different flavors (chicken and sausage and peppers) and they both tasted kind of the same to me. It was SUPER quick though and the employees at the counter were very helpful in helping me decide what to get. I pass through Times Square regularly, but usually there are so many people crowded around the area you can barely see store fronts, no less a small food hut in the middle of one of the pedestrian walking areas in front of the Times Square Toys R Us. Today however, a break in the crowd allowed me to see Nuchas "inspired hand-held foods". The structure is a small one with pictures of food and faux wood paneling all around it, giving it a relatively warm and inviting look. I'm a big fan of empenadas, but it's easy to find a bad one so I'm always wary of a new place claiming to have good ones. They have four meat based ones (beef, short rib, chicken and pulled pork) and two vegetarian options (portobello or cheese and onion). I decided to go with the Short Rib (braised in red wine, onions, peppers, potatoes and herbs on a rosemary dough). For $3.00, this empenada was fairly tiny, causing it to lose one star in this review. Just an hour earlier I had seen empenadas for the same price at the Columbus Circle Holiday Market, each of which was about 1/3 larger than this one. That said, this was one pretty darn tasty empenada. You could taste the rosemary in the crust and the flavors in the short rib was fantastic. Savory, bright and best of all tender. Service was quick and courteous as well. I would like to try more of these at some point, especially the medialuna (Argentine sweet croissants)! read more

So each empanada is about $3-4. They are tiny. So for a full meal, you'll definitely need at least 3-4, if not more. We were in Times Square hoping for some Korean food trucks for the Korean Festival, only to realize that there were no food trucks only lines. So starving, this was the closest thing. Tried both the portobello and the jambalaya. They were both average. Slightly greasy, not a lot of complexity in flavor,and as I mentioned already -- tiny. I think the kicker is that I've gotten larger, better empanadas at food stands for $2. Either way, not the best deal or the best food. But immensely satisfying when you're hungry and in Times Square. As someone who's not a huge veggie person, I wish that that veggies in their empanadas were a little less "conspicuous." That is to say, smaller and more ground up. But their flavors are all really tasty. Especially liked the spicy chicken and the cheese one. Odd as it might sound since it's not what they're known for, the true standouts that would cause me to return were the green tea lemonade and the sweet croissants. Major "yum" factor on both. I went to Nuchas last night and what a disappointment! I'm not talking about the food, I'm talking about hygiene and customer service. I went with a coworker and we each ordered the 3 for 8 deal, she went first and the payment didn't go through but she had already walked away. I then came up to pay and they were reluctant to return my credit card attempting to charge me for hers because they were never able to obtain authorization. The wifi never came back so I returned my untouched empanadas BUT THEY TOOK BACK MY COWORKER'S EMPANADAS AND RESTOCKED THEM! This food truck reminds me more a restaurant than a truck. You can't mistake it for anything else because it's also probably the largest food truck I've seen. The food exceeded every expectation I had of empanadas. They have this get 3 and a soda for $10 which essentially is a lunch. Their short rib empanada has so much flavor in every bite. It has this gravy inside that makes the meat and veggies sing while eating. It's not overly salty and the proportion is just right. They do this thing where they mold a letter into the empanada so you don't have to figure out which is which, it's the little things like this that makes this food truck more enjoyable. I also had the Jambalaya empanada. The dough holds all the juice and flavor of the shrimp and andouille sausage inside and after taking a bite and seeing the steam come out, I was hooked. I'm glad they fill them up so you're not left with a empty shell after the first bite. For my third one I decided to go with their dessert empanada. I read that it had nutella in it.... WHO DOESN'T LOVE NUTELLA?!?!?! It also had apples, pears, and cranberries, all wrapped in a white almond dough. I tend to get Korean food in the area, but when I'm not that hungry or just want a quick bite, I come here. I like the Argentine and the Spicy Chicken empanadas. This truck made its way to the financial district and I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, there are other empanada spots in this area of Manhattan but it's nice to see one on wheels with various offerings. They have 3 meat options (rib, spicy chicken, and jambalaya) and 3 veggie options (spicy cheese, portobello, and curry which is actually a vegan option). I decided to go with the spicy chicken and spicy cheese. Both were $3. They also take plastic, which is a plus! The empanadas were piping hot and you can see the ovens inside the truck so you know they're made fresh. I tried the cheese first. While the crust was good and crunchy, the inside was all mush. I know cheese melts but this was like a bunch of different cheeses thrown together and just far too mushy. The chicken was good on the inside but the crust was just okay. The empanadas are on the medium-side. Not too small, not too large. For $6 for two, it's not a bad deal by any means. I will try another veggie option next time and perhaps the jambalaya one. The chicken and cheese empanadas were both lacking in some way. Also, they serve them in TINY paper bags that barely fit two in one.
