So cute!

As we were walking through Times Square We Came Upon This little pop-up Empanada spot. We grabbed two to go as we were walking. I was glad they had a vegetarian option for my daughter. She got the curried mushroom empanada which was quite tasty. We also got a beef empanadas. Both empanadas how to delicious crust with very tasty, and well-seasoned fillings. This little bite to go sustained us for a while on our busy Times Square Trek. It was nice to go through the area and grab little bites at the different pop ups. Kind of like a DIY food tour.

Water, soda, or beer.

For being Times Square, it's a little odd that most food places close by midnight. I was able to find this empanada stand in the heart of Times Square, right before it closed. My options were limited and I was starving. I ordered two chicken empanadas, only because they ran out of beef. It was cool they served beer, but only Coronas and some IPA I've never heard of. Unwrapping the empanadas, they were soooo TINY! It says their empanadas are award winning... they might have won the award for smallest empanadas. The chicken empanadas were actually flavorful with a hint of spice. I could have eaten about 20 of them and still would have been hungry. You don't get much bang for your buck here, but it's more of a desperation play if the clock is about to strike 12 and you are starving. I'm sure there are better food options that I just haven't discovered yet. I probably won't be back here, but it does get the job done.

Empanadas!

At Nuchas, the menu is simple, it's ALL empanadas and they are ranked from most to least popular (top to bottom) for each category of empanadas - Meat, Veggie and Sweet. Since it was 3 empanadas for a $8, I decided to get my bang for the buck (It's 1 for $3). If you have a big appetite then you'll be a bit disappointed as the empanadas are pretty small. I ordered the 2 most popular meat options (Argentine and Spicy Chicken) and the most popular veggie option (Portobello). All of them were soft and had plenty of filling. For each one, I got a good taste of the flavors. Surprisingly, my favorite out of the 3 was the Portobello, mostly because I love mushrooms mixed with spinach and cheese! It had a truffle taste to it. The other 2 were good, but not anything spectacular to me. The empanadas were all good and tasty, but there was nothing here that completely blew me away. It was just average for me. Also, the price was a bit higher than I would have preferred for such small empanadas. If it was $2 each I would've been satisfied with that.

I try to avoid walking through Times Square whenever possible, but if I'm cutting through and need a quick snack, Nuchas is where I usually stop. Their empanadas are quick, flavorful, and easy to eat, whether you're sitting in one of the pedestrian plazas or eating on the go. My favorite is the Argentine, filled with beef, onions, peppers, scallions, potatoes, and olives, and I'm also a fan of the chipotle chicken which comes with peppers, tomatoes, and onions in their paprika dough. They have a bunch of different options at the stand, including some vegetarian ones, and I've liked the ones I've tried over the years. Pricing is a little on the higher side for a snack, but they are in the middle of expensive Times Square real estate, so it's not unexpected.

Amazing Empanadas

It is a food truck and you MUST try Nuchas if you are at Times Square. Amazing food and the great staff at the counter. The place shares the common seating area at Times Square, so there is no dedicated seating area but there are plenty of tables, so you don't really have to worry. We tried Portobello Empanadas (Veggie) and Apple, Cranberry & Nutella Empanadas (Sweet). We liked the later one more than the former but both of them were great. I am quite sure they would be making amazing meat empanadas as well. Medialunas (Argentine sweet croissant) is another must try. The staff was good and friendly. Took the orders and diligently delivered them without much delay. Overall, it's the brilliant food that you must not miss at this place.

Argentine empanada stand on Times Square

There are a couple of Nuchas Argentine Empanada stands in New York - one in Herald Square and one in Times Square. I recently stopped by the one in Times Square for a quick snack and ordered the Argentine empanada. I asked for a side of spicy sauce which they provided. The empanada was decent but nothing out of the ordinary compared to many other empanadas I have eaten from Argentina. And at $4 it is not cheap. There are outdoor tables if you want to sit down while you eat your empanada. So that's the scoop on Nuchas!

The food truck was parked this time right inside of Bryant Park on the 5th Ave side so was super excited to catch them! I unfortunately got there a little too late from their lunch rush and so no short rib or spicy cheese were available...But the truck guys were super apologetic and nice and offered me a free sweet empananda. Ordered: Argentine, Spicy Chicken, Jambalaya and Portobello...all very good and seasoned perfectly. I like that they bake each empanada with a letter stamped to them so you know which you are devouring first. The sweet empanada was stuffed with granny smith apples, cranberries, pears, nutella and chocolate in a white almond dough...very tasty as well!

A small food stand, so the taste of empanadas is good but you cannot expect an excellent environment...It is convenient for people traveling on Time Square

Lacked rgt at time square it's a small pop up shop witlots of space to sit and relax and have a snack break.. They have a lot of options of vegans too..they offer 3 for 9.99$ The taste was bland and not hot or warm too...its was a filling just cold and so bland hardly could taste any of its ingredients..

This review is for the Brooklyn location by Court Street. I really like their chicken empanadas and honey butter croissants. When the croissants are directly out of the oven, omg. So yummy. Very tasty. Very fresh. I love that they are baked and not fried, also! I think they could be $1 cheaper considering the size, however still worth what the price. Their lemonade and coffee is really good also!! I would suggest trying them for a small bite or snack.

This is one of the food stands that are located in the heart of Times Square. That means that the food is expected to be mediocre and overpriced. Well, that is damn right! The empanadas lack filling and flavor. I got the spicy chicken and chorizo empanadas and it was lacking the authentic spicy flavors I was looking for. They basically took day old empanadas and reheated them in the microwave. I paid a solid $8 for that, never again!

I know a thing or two about empanadas (or as my family calls it, pastelitos). Nuchas' empanadas did not live up to my expectations. First off, I visited this truck while in attendance of the Afro Punk Festival (bunches of fun go read my review). Nuchas actually had one of the longer lines compared to the rest of the food trucks. Three empanadas for $10 is a decent deal. I waited on the line for a half hour and was expecting greatness. Nope, didn't get that. I ordered the Spicy Chicken, Argentine and Portobello empanadas. The spicy chicken was just bad. They could've been more creative with that bad boy. Empanadas stuffed with mushy, spicy shredded chicken, is not my idea of an empanada. The Argentine was okay. Not bad, but not great, and definitely not memorable. Portobello empanada, DING DING DING WE HAVE A WINNER. Portobello kicked Argentine's and Spicy Chicken's butt. Loved it, everything about it. I wasn't expecting that amount of flavor in an all veggie empanada. Yummers! I give them three stars for that Portobello empanada and friendly customer service. Other than that, I can show you how a real empanada is made.

Beware of the inevitable oil that will leak from your empanada. Maybe I don't eat them enough to remember that? Well, I'll have the stain on my jacket to remind me next time. My sister and I wanted a quick bite and were passing through en route to work so I got the Argentine empanada and she got their "sweet". I got to say, that was one heck of an empanada! The selection on their menu is not the longest but the quality makes up for it.

We got there at 6 and for a while it was quiet -- great ambience, very comfortable and lovely staff. Then it filled UP and got a bit louder, but not too loud that we couldn't still have a conversation. We weren't super hungry, so can only comment on a few dishes, but what we had we really enjoyed: My friend ordered the grilled chicken breast -- which is just that: grilled chicken with a wedge of lemon -- so you need to order a salad or a side if you want veggies with that. I had the steak salad, which was EXCELLENT -- the steak was marinated in soy sauce and cooked through with onions, and then combinated with greens, tomatoes, avocado and balsamic vinaigrette. Topped the meal off with a shared dish of Swiss Chocolate ice cream, which was just perfect. For all that, plus a cocktail I had at the beginning, the bill came to around $100 before tip -- which is very good for NYC, especially in that area. I definitely would like to return and try more of their menu!
