I don't want to write this review because this place was me and my sister's childhood spot before it got bought out by god knows who. It use to be such an amazing place. But I'm only writing this for the safety of other families who wanna come here. My mom bought food from here recently for Xmas, Chowmein with Shrimp and chicken. I was the first one that started throwing up an hour later and had bad case of dirrhea I almost Went to urgent care because I was still throwing up next day. I had food poisoning following day, my sister's 4 year old toddler got sick, my dad, and last, my sisters dog who accidently ate from my toddlers bowl of chowmein also got very sick and all threw up all day none stop and just had really bad case of dirrhea. I'm sorry guys. But this is the end for your ya'll. I am not here to bash no one out but yall need to get yo sh* together because the family the kids use to own this place, never had issues. I used to really like this place, but after my experiences, I can't recommend it anymore. About a year ago, I found a rusty screw in my food. I called, but there was very little concern or apology, which was disappointing. It took me a long time to give them another chance. Love this place! I get those kung pao shrimp for the lunch special with side of rice. 10000/10000 just the right amount of spicy. It's always comes out so fresh and hot and it's so filling. This will forever be my favorite spot in burbank, call ahead so by the time you come to the place it's already ready cause it does take a while to make. My family and I have been coming to this restaurant when they were just Great Wok. Now they have become Nu Great Wok in the recent years but the food is still pretty solid. The restaurant isn't always full as they are primarily a takeout place but now I think about it every time I've eaten here it's been for dine in. The staff are polite, and they always greet you with fried crispies to dip in sweet-and-sour sauce or hot mustard. They will always ask you if you would like some hot tea and bring out the complementary white rice to go with your entrée. My family loves hot sauce and they always keep the hot chili garlic sauce coming. Our go to items are : Three flavored sizzling rice soup Wontons in hot chili oil Barbecue pork fried rice Beef, chow fun Braised, string beans Kung pao chicken Mongolian beef Salt and pepper fried fish Orange chicken honey walnut shrimp It's definitely my go to Chinese spot when I'm in the area. Where do I begin..... I was looking for a new local place to get Chinese food. After driving to two places in NoHo and finding out they do'tt allow eating in and only take out (despite their websites saying otherwise), I decided to try NU GREAT WOK. I wanted to try a lunch special. We arrived late because we were driving all over and no one served at a table. I called NU GREAT WOK and he said to come. We arrived at 3:15. Their lunch specials ended at 3 pm. There wasn't a soul in the place except the surly man behind the register and (I believe) the cook eating at a table in the back. He acted so apathetic (should have been my first clue to run) but we decided to eat there anyway. I asked him if we would try a lunch special because I called saying I had just called and he said "NO". They ended at 3 o' clock. After a while of looking at the menu, he proceeded to spill an entire glass of water on the table, getting it all over my friend's lap. HE NEVER EVEN APOLOGIZED! He hardly reacted and said to go to the next table and went to get something to clean it. W brought the stuff to the other table. I enquired about some of the dishes and said I wanted a dish with no sugar. I asked if he could make the sesame chicken without and he said yes. We also ordered dumplings. There were 10 but were so small that they fit into a small soup cup. We also ordered a chicken fried rice. When he brought the sesame chicken, he said they HAD to put some sugar in it. REALLY?? Yet there were hardly any sesame seeds and the chicken pieces were so small, breaded and fried that it was actually comical. I asked for brown rice (additional cost of course) and he never offered anything for dumping a glass after the water debacle. By this point, I just wanted to blow it off as a failed experiment. The lunch was $44 with tax and I still tipped him 15% (because I'm an idiot). The more I thought about, the angrier I got. Since then, I tried another place that only does take out. It's a hole in the wall on Lankershim in NoHo called HOT WOK. A one man show that has been there for 18 years. He told me that sesame chicken can't be made without sugar and accommodated me by making a couple of dishes, per my requesr, JUST FOR MY NEEDS. He was a hoot and his prices were fair. Curry chicken, beef and broccoli and chicken dumplings...$26. AND HE THREW IN THE WHITE RICE FOR FREE! I don't think they offered brown rice. TOO frufru. He was honest and direct. No frills but good old fashioned Chinese food. I will be back. As for NU GREAT WOK (nothing great about them), I won't ever go back. I will cringe every time I drive by or talk about them. As I am doing now while writing this review. Dont bother unless you have even lower expectations that I obviously did. TOO EXPENSIVE. TOO MUCH HORRIBLE SERVICE. TOO BAD! read more

To the server this afternoon that gave us attitude because we had a baby with us a big F U. He was so rude about it. She is a 10 month baby LEARNING to eat and because she made a bit of a mess with her rice. Which by the way we cleaned up. The comments from him was not necessary. Saying things like " Do you let her eat like this at home " and "teach her how to eat". Sir we were all children at some point humble yourself. Be respectful to the few customers that you do have my family has been coming to this restaurant weekly with the baby and never received horrible comments like this. Tried Nu Great Wok for the first time on Christmas and we couldn't have been more pleased! We were expecting mediocre, but as they say, don't judge a book by its cover. We ordered BBQ Pork Fried Rice, Pork Fried Rice, Chicken with Fresh Vegetables, Chicken Chow Mein, Vegetable Egg Rolls, and Salt and Pepper Pork Chop. The last item was an impulse selection and ended up the hit of the meal. We will definitely order from here again! I lived in the area for almost 2 years. I would pass by this restaurant several times and finally took a friend to go and try it. Outside doesn't look much, and the interior satisfactory. But the food was so delicious. We tried some items off the dinner menu which includes a soup and a Egg Roll. Soup was ehh and the Egg Roll was ok. But the main courses were excellent. My favorite was the Almond Chicken. Chicken was nice and tender and flavorful, and the almonds gave a nice texture to the dish. Service was good and my water was always filled up. During the whole duration we were inside, so many people got take-out and made me realize how popular this place was.
