When I first walked in the guy was super nice. The shop was a nice size and I ended up buying a couple things. The guy was super funny. There was cute little girl there that told me where the bathroom was and it looked like she wanted to do everything she could to help out. I tried on a shirt and their dressing room was pretty nice there were cool lights and the door went all the way down to the ground unlike targets changing rooms. The prices were pretty good for a small business. I ended up buying a glow stick for my niece and she was so exited when I gave it to her. If you picture a military surplus store in Texas, this place is probably close to what you're imagining... housed in a shack-house with yellow paint and many flags outside, including a "Come and Take It" one. I was on a mission to find inexpensive, warm clothing and decided to go here for socks and other essentials. The store is cramped, dim, and dusty, but pretty much anything you need to find in a military surplus store, you'll find here... I especially recommend if you're going camping or are a prepper. Stuff is not well-organized, I found everything I needed but was on the floor sifting through mismarked boxes of items for a bit. Lots of random interesting things to look at, definitely a cool cultural and patriotic experience. Old dudes came and went and chatted with (I think) the owner (who did not say anything inflammatory while we were there). A sweet young woman checked us out. Prices, I expected lower but I hadn't been to one of these stores in years, so my expectations may have been askew. A scarf for $11, a pack of three-pair socks for the same, boots for $20... it's all reasonable, although for a secondhand/surplus store, it does seem a little high. Oh, and they staple the prices into the clothes themselves, so be mindful about removing staples before wear... Still recommend! read more

AVOID! If you are ex-military, DO NOT take any of your uniforms or gear to sell to this store. I brought in 8 uniforms (dress and camouflage), including belts and covers. 5 of the 8 sets of uniforms were still brand new with the tags still on them. He offered me $25 for everything. I understand that store owners like this can't afford to pay the full value of items that they then must resell; they have overhead and costs. I don't, however, expect to be insulted and lowballed with an offer so low that only a crackhead desperate for drugs would accept. Everything in his store is way overpriced. Anything you are looking for can be found online for a cheaper price. I looked at a couple items that I was interested in. I found the items online at knifecenter.com for half the price of what he was selling the items for. Once again, I understand that as a small-business owner he won't be able to sell his items as cheap as other places (especially online stores). However, I'm astounded at how much he overprices everything, especially since he buys uniforms and gear from veterans at such an insultingly low price. The owner isn't friendly; he's not the worst, but by no means is he someone I would ever give my business to. He finishes every sentence with "take or leave it." The staff were friendly and helpful, and will help you find whatever you are looking for. As for those who complain about not being offered a lot of money for their items, that is common among all surplus stores. Just take a look around and see how much inventory they already have, so if you are expecting hundreds of dollars for your old service dress or camo uniforms you will be badly disappointed no matter where you go unless there is something extremely unique about them. Even online sales of such items are priced about the same as what these shops are offering. All in all a great place to stop in Austin if you're looking for military clothing items! read more

This place is going to scam you to make a buck... Never give them your phone number when they say "we will call you when we get some more product in." It's just to get your number so they can sell it to telemarketers. I've only given my personal phone number out once this year (I usually give out my unattended google voice number instead). Before this visit, I had no telemarketers calling me, and I had no reason to believe they would do anything outside of what they tell you they will do. Plus, I really needed one last set of cheap OCP ASU's before my separation. So I trusted them to call me, as they said they would, which never happened. And then I started getting telemarketing calls soon after. Not only do they have miss matched sizes of uniforms for sale, which is fine if you are looking to use them for manual labor or costumes, but it's not for actual military use when needed in a pinch. They also price these used, previously-worn items at nearly full cost, as if they were new. Talk about a business markup. I even purchased an item so they would have an incentive to make more money off me later when a full uniform "came in" with matching sizes. But they chose the easy way out to make a quick buck. So avoid this place if you are military looking for honesty and cheap replacements before you leave service. It's truly not worth the hassle. You might as well purchase a new set at the exchange and not risk this type of betrayal. read more

We came in here for some chem lights for a glow party and we ended up checking out the whole place. You have to pay attention to see the sign and entrance. I was with someone who was military so, I got dragged up and down the aisles however, I didn't mind. We found what we were looking for and they weren't expensive by any means. They have a lot of stuff that I think hunters and survivalists would want to stock up on. Ok the price is high on that stuff but, it's supply and demand. If you want it and you aren't military you are going to have to pay to get it because you can only purchase that stuff at places like these. This seems to be a family run place and I thought the older gentleman was funny. He made me laugh a couple times but, I could see how some people would be offended. Me, I don't take things too seriously so, I laughed. I probably won't ever have a reason to come back in again but, if you like this kind of stuff then I would recommend a stop here. I headed over there this afternoon after a quick call to make sure I wasn't silly for hoping they'd have SUPER long socks. The owner was very nice and I managed to make him laugh more than he made me laugh so WOO HOO to me. :) Anyhow, nice guy, got to see someone I'd not seen for YEARS since he was there shopping, too, and good price. I'll go back any time I need something they may have. Oddly enough (because I wear a woman's size 8 shoe), the men's size 13-15 socks that I bought are indeed working wonderfully for what I need - a sock that goes all the way up to my knee to help make sure I don't sweat in the boot I'm wearing for at least 3 more weeks. Lots of cool things to look at. Found what I was looking for and had several options. Now the store it self does have an odor. It's very crowded and you have to be willing to dig in the boxes and racks for the right size. If you have allergies you might be sneezing or eyes water. Smells a bit moldy. The owner did have a colorful conversation going on with a group of men around the counter. Just consider this is a military store. These men more then likely have military backgrounds and are rough on the edges but not bad guys. They helped when I asked and left me to shop without being over my shoulder. read more

I went there for the $8.95 dog tag special, which includes chain and silencers (those rubber edge gaskets that dampen the sound of the tags rubbing together. Good deal, fast work, good price. I am in. If I remember correctly the tags fit 5 lines x 14characters of text. If you are not sure what you want it is a good idea to take a few minutes to map out what you want before you get there. I got them printed as safety identification for my toddler, there are lots of versions available via mail order or the Internet, but this was close by, immediate and competitively priced. For parents: While the staff was pleasant, fast and helpful.. this is not a child safe store. You might want to call ahead to make sure what you want is there. The store is very crowded, little ones can be out of sight quickly, and there is a lot of "stuff" laying around that is not child friendly. read more

I told him again that this purchase is tax exempt for me and he said "you should have told me that before I rang you up. You're going to pay tax today!" After reading some of the other reviews, I feel the need to set things straight. Mr. Pacheco is a wonderfully grouchy man. Rough around the edges, and that's the way he is. You won't find a more genuinely good man though. He will be angry at me for saying this but he has such a kind heart. It just so happens that he is the real deal, what do you expect when you go into a military environment? Marshmallows? His inventory is also the real deal. BATTLE TESTED, my fiancé, a 16 year combat veteran of the United States Marine Corp, and Gunnery Sargent approves. I have to drag him out of there every time. I am notoriously rough on my pants. In the line of work I'm in, a pair of jeans is lucky if it lasts me a year before it has a gaping hole in it somewhere. My boyfriend has been telling me for a while that I need to get some BDU's with rip-stop stitching in them so I can leave my jeans in peace and wear the BDU's into the field. We went to NS Army and Navy Store this evening. The place is cramped and kind of musty, but they have everything you could ever imagine an Army/Navy surplus to have. They didn't seem to have anything specifically in women's sizes, but the extra small, regular length BDU's fit me pretty well and I even got a pretty sweet jacket to go with them. The prices on clothes seemed to range from about $9.95 for an older used jacket to $29.95 for brand new pants. They also seemed to have a large assortment of shoes and boots and some belts, hats, and other accessories, including a few gas masks. The dressing room is a glorified closet with a mirror, an excessively hot light, and an unzipped sleeping bag as a door, so if you plan on trying things on before you buy them you might want to go with a friend you trust to guard the entrance. The guy who runs the place, Manuel, seemed like a real character. He helped us find BDU's in appropriate sizes and then discussed the finer points of breakfast taco cuisine with us before letting us smell a jar of homemade salsa his mom had made for him. All together, this place was everything I expected it to be plus a little bit more. I just wish it was closer to San Marcos. read more

Terrible service!!! The girl working was totally rude! I asked to use the restroom for my daughter and I was told there wasn't one, then i asked the girl where she would go to the bathroom if she had to go ( thinking that I would walk my daughter there). Then she answered, in the back of the store but YOU are not authorized.... how rude! I was ready to drop a few hundred dollars there for my nephews "army" birthday party but after that- I left!! Horrible! I work at a non profit and my staff purchased some items here, apparently it's a huge inconvenience to honor a non-profit no tax status. Store staff ignored the paperwork initially and would not correct the mistake when given the opportunity. The manager's reaction to the request for the correction bordered on belligerent. He demands that I leave my back pack behind the counter. I know - I've purchased t-shirts from this store before for myself and as gifts. The store is small and has a home-type feeling to it. I am a 16 year combat veteran of the United States Marine Corp, and Gunnery Sergeant. The gear here is guaranteed to be battle tested, not brand new, never seen-never existed in any faction of the military Robocop gear like found elsewhere. If Mr. Pacheco, the owner and proprietor, gives you a price, he's probably already cut you an excellent deal not found anywhere else because of the great and solemn pride and care he has for his business and customers. As a long friend and customer myself, I have never had a single problem or complaint about him or his retail. The only problem I ever had was when I mistakenly took two MRE's thinking I had his permission. I found myself thinking of leaving the planet in a hurry when he reminded me of his fondness for his. 357 magnum, the intended use of it, and always hungry pit bull! I executed his RETURN POLICY immediately and made it right. Just kidding, sorta'. His real return policy is always executed with military precision by his excellent selection, ability to find/order if he doesn't have it on hand, and impeccable business character. Pay attention to Mr. Pacheco's hours of operation because he does not budge at all for anyone. If you knock anyways, you'll hear, "CAN'T YOU READ THE SIGN??!! (I have heard, though, that he'll open up after hours if you show him and spend a $100 bill.) EVERYONE of all races, colors, creeds, religions, and backgrounds is welcome and treated like family at his store. The only people that better watch there ass are customer service representatives of his cell phone company. I have always left there planning to return soon. His son, Manuel III, Milly and rest of his family involved there are honest, hardworking, respectful and helpful. They are my personal friends and confidants. I have seen with my own eyes Mr. Pacheco go way beyond the normal customer service realm and lend an ear or helping hand by "giving the shirt off his back" to those in need. Behind it all is his BELOVED mother who is responsible for Mr. Pacheco's success and prosperity. It's a rare treat to catch her there. When you meet her, you understand Mr. Pacheco's secret to success and reason he has boomed in business for well over a decade. I called the store at 7:05 to ask how late they were open - unfortunately, they had closed at 7, but the man offered to wait for me even though I was 10 mins away at best. When I got there, I didn't feel rushed at all, he double checked I had the right size, showed me several different options, basically did everything he could to make me feel welcome and provide great service. As I was checking out, I, being cheap, asked if the stickers on the counter were free. They were $2.something, so I decided against it, and he proceeded to give me one on the house. We read all the previous reviews and decided to check the place out for ourselves. Surprisingly, the owner was super nice and very sociable. So I am not sure what everybody is talking about. The store has an excellent selection of military uniforms and camo. Boxes full of belts, gun holsters, clip holders, survival gear, and several shelves of military boot wear. We bought several items and the prices were very reasonable. Our teenage daughter bought some camo t shirts for herself. This place was exactly what we were looking for it has a little bit of everything. The owner was awesome with a great sense of humor we need more small businesses like this around Austin. I have patronized this store many times and have always been satisfied. The staff members have always been helpful and respectful, and I have always been able to get what I needed. I have no complaints about the prices. Manuel is a fellow veteran and has always treated me right. Keep in mind this is a military surplus store and not a soap and scented candle shop, so don't expect a well dressed mamby-pamby clerk smelling like Macy's perfume to dote on you while you're there. You can expect to overhear an occasional conversation sprinkled with language you might hear in a military barracks. It's a military surplus store, for Pete's sake! And a dang good one, at that! I recently went to the surplus store to find camping gear. I purchased 2 brand new army cots which far surpassed my expectations. They worked fantastically, were easy to set up and are better quality and price than every other cot I saw and tested at other high tech camping and hunting stores throughout Austin and Buda. The owner even threw in a metal "cheater bar" that helped stretch the nylon fabric onto the frame while I was setting them up!! I usually do a lot of research on my gear before purchasing and could not be happier with the quality of the products that the store offers. read more
