One of the best studios in the greater Phoenix area!! I've been visiting this place since it was called Paragon, which was many, many years ago. They have regular West Coast Swing dances, as well as a couple of Saturday night country western dances (2-step, ECS, WCS, Night Club, Waltz, Cha Cha), and of course ballroom dances, and others. Been to many dance places places to "try-out" the Salsa. NRG was head and shoulders above the competition. I am so impressed at how friendly they are. Super helpful and I can tell they really want everyone to successfully dance. They have great private and group lessons. We were very impressed with Luisa. She acknowledged and welcomed everyone who arrived for the group lesson, but even more so, the fact that within 10 minutes she already had a room full of beginners executing the basic steps. Her energy and enthusiasm is infectious and her ability to correct us quickly and keep it going makes it so worthwhile to attend. NRG is worth crossing town for lessons. Our experience with NRG has been nothing but exceptional. My wife and I came across the studio in our search to learn a dance for our wedding. We visited the usual big name studios around town consistently leaving with the feeling of being overwhelmed and pressured into packages we weren't ready for. NRG provided a no pressure, friendly atmosphere right from the get go. Our lessons with Gergana were amazing, she listened to what we wanted, catered a dance to our skill level and stepped us through the basics over a number of weeks before the big day. We ended up with a number that we and our guests will never forget! Fast forward a few years and we now consistently attend the Friday night functions, group lessons, showcases and have continued our dance journey together with private lessons. The instructors are great. It is very friendly. You can go to a class with or without a partner. The staff and dancers are very welcoming. The pluming needs work. You may need to flush more than once even for number 1. The heat can be overwhelming in the summer. This place is great in the winter. If you have problems with the heat this is not the place to dance. Having the large fans on and more of them would help. If you are looking for a summer sauna this is the place to dance in the summer. It is much cooler in the winter it would help even in the winter if they had fans! I came here for the first time and didn't know what to expect. It turned out to be a lot of fun! First, (we went on a Friday) it's $7 cash at the door to get in. At 7:30 the dance lesson began....or was supposed to (it started more around 7:45) The lesson of the night was West Coast swing. Apparently they teach different genres of dance every week, you need to check their website to see what they are offering for that week. They split off the beginners from the intermediate/advance dancers. Us beginners were put in a smaller dance room studio (to my releif, as I have never danced West Coast Swing, and was nervous to be in front of advanced students...) After an hour of class (which goes by very fast!) they have an open dance floor until midnight. Most of the people there are people who simply love dance. They switch up the music to a different genre for every song, i.e. waltz, foxtrot, salsa, rumba, swing...etc. Even if you are not a great dancer, or only know one genre of dance, it's certainly fun to watch everyone! There are some really good pros and amateurs, no one really cares what you look like out there, everyone is just there to dance! (There were people there of many age groups as well....from early 20's to 60's or 70's!) I love that you can just drop in for a class. No sign up or commitment necessary! There is country, ballet, Latin styles, belly dance, line dance, fitness, swing, etc. Options for all ages and fitness levels. I have been coming here approximately nine years. The social events are fun, the showcases are entertaining. The owners Nicolai, Rado and Gergana are great. They are so welcoming and encouraging. The studio pulls in accomplished instructors. All the instructors are very supportive. I started out doing ballroom and now I am learning country. My instructors are Mark and Brigette Thompson. They are UCWDC world champions. NRG Ballroom is such a great studio for social and competitive dancers alike. Because it is not a franchise like Fred Astaire or Arthur Murray, the instructors are less focused on money and more on improvement and fun! I started competitive Latin and ballroom dancing two years ago, and in these two years, I have visited many studios around the valley for events and socials and nothing compares to NRG, especially now that they are under new management (which is just three professional instructors from there that have bought the studio). The bathrooms have been renovated, the floors have been replaced, and large windows have been put in - everything looks amazing now. If you like dancing with collegiate students, this is also the place. Many students from ASU frequent NRG Ballroom, whether it's for private lessons or for the Friday night socials. There are also a lot of older folks, but they are fairly lively and appreciate dance just as much. NRG has also brought in amazing professionals like Karina Smirnoff and Boriana Deltcheva for workshops and private lessons, and the learning opportunities never stop! If you think that the instructors are intimidating or snobby, just watch them teach or take time to say hi and talk to them. Radomir, Gergana, and Nikolay are super sweet and helpful. My partner and I have also shared practice space with many of the other amateur and professional couples; just be friendly and respectful of the floor and personal space! Ahhh... been going to Paragon on and off for 5 years. I think we are done though. We always felt unwelcome practicing during the day, as the European instructors were snotty and didn't appear to want to share the massive floor with us. However, the social dancing on Fridays was generally good. We popped in last weekend though & all 3 of us looked at each other like "What the heck is this?" 1) Price went up to $8/person. No biggie. 2) Didn't see the usual spread of refreshments out. 3) The music was not good. At all. They used to play songs people knew & were excited to dance to... Nope. The few songs they played that we recognized, they had slowed down so much they were totally undanceable. The vibe had been killed. 4) They seem to be catering really heavily to the old folks. By "old", I mean that my friend asked if they could turn the music up and she said no, because most of the people had hearing aids in. I'm not trying to discriminate, but there are a lot of other venues for that crowd already that us 20/30 somethings stay out of. All in all, it's decent still, but personally I wouldn't go again. read more

Fortunate to have NRG here in our hometown, we've been coming to this place for the last 16 years, when it was still Paragon....so it's been a part of my family for a long time...we like it then but we very much love it now, the new owner have done so much improvement in the establishment, big new windows, well kept and maintained dance floor and clean restrooms...they have added variety of different dances, for competitive and social dancing for all ages also, we've dance here with our children and now our grandchildren, (taking ballet, hip hop and ballroom) these studio will continue to be a part of our lives, so if you are looking for a fun and creative family activity, give NRG a try. read more

I have taken several group lessons on Tuesday evenings for West Coast Swing. Instructor Robert Campos is one of the best WCS instructors in the valley. His instruction is clear and he demonstrates great ability at handling large crowds. His classes are very popular so expect large crowds. Getting personal attention can be problematic but fortunately Robert has an assistant to help people. Partners are rotated often so expect to meet lots of other people who love to dance. There is a meat market aspect to these large group classes but I always enjoy the opportunities to meet beautiful ladies. After rotating to dozens of partners it's easy to break the ice to get them onto the dance floor. After most of the group lessons Paragon keeps the floor open for several hours. The music and dancing is always good. I like the dance afterwards to practice what I learned in the group lesson. Friday night is the best ballroom party in the valley. They start by giving a group lesson in a different ballroom style every week. The lessons are excellent quality. Once the lessons are over the large floor is devoted to ballroom and the smaller one to West Coast Swing. Snacks are served and dances last until midnight. The East Valley is very lucky to have a studio like Paragon. Sometimes I feel I spend more time there than I do at home! read more

Bring your student ID for discounts. Instead of paying 92 bucks at Fred Astaire, this is a cheap alternate cheap option. Of course its not as technical and personal as Fred Astaire, but I'm saying $ value-wise. There are beginner group lessons (I think it was every Friday 7 PM its been a while...), followed by intermediate group lessons. I think I paid around 10 bucks or below. For only $7 you get to learn a new dance, snack on a few hor dourves, and mingle with the pros til the midnight hour. You don't need to have a partner to participate and the dances being taught vary from week to week, so there's always room to learn something new (just check the calendar online). There are a LOT of wonderful dancer and dancer of any level in this social which makes it fun. All About Fun And Footcare! Upon deciding to do something different a month ago, I proudly went there alone on a whim after a mani/pedi on a Friday. I neither knew what to expect nor know what the West Coast Swing was, and didn't care. After a briefing on what the dance pattens would look like, I took to it like a cat to a scratching post and was swinging in no time. I forgot the guy's name who walked me through it, but he was very personable and patient. I like the way he held my hand. Simple, non-pretentious, made me very comfortable --he was a gentleman. : ). I had a really good time dancing and conversing with others there. I left heavily perspired, but also refreshed, too...and slept like brick! I woke up the next morning doing the 'east valley shuffle' out of bed, immediately went to urgent care and was diagnosed with plantar fascitis :( . I didn't realize why that heel was a 'thorn in my side' for a month prior to the event; thought it would just go away on its own (bummer). Pros: convenient location, ample parking (get there early), pleasant staff, friendly atmosphere and people, you can dance there pretty much all night long. Con: try not to do any dances if you have either sciatica or that plantar thingy I got, take care of the weird aches and pains with a doc or chiro first before 'cuttin' the rug' or you'll only exacerbate it and be shufflin' along like me. As soon as my issue passes you may see me there, but it'll be awhile. read more

I went there Friday for their free tango class. It was quite full before we even started and got quite crowded by the end. We changed partners every minute or so which I think is good, you get to meet plenty of people and not stuck with someone. Some couples didn't want to switch, no big deal. Only one woman wasn't very nice, if she is so good, why is she there on a beginners night? My friend said some of the men were a little rude with her, she also was a beginner and they were or thought (LOL) that they were more advanced and weren't pleased about her dancing...whatever. My dance skills have improved so much since I started going there and I've also made a ton of new friends. When I started out, I did a lot of social dancing and group classes. NRG has a ton to choose from including country, ballroom, west coast, tango, hustle, and more. The studio has a huge dance floor and attracts a lot of people, which is essential for practicing your social dance skills. I recommend trying out various events to see what you like best, since they're all hosted by different instructors and DJ's. If you want to get more serious about your dance, private lessons are the way to go. NRG is an independent studio with many instructors... it's easy to try out one or more instructors to find someone that's a good fit for you. And no cheesy sales pitches to buy expensive dance lesson packages like at other studios. If you're a long-time dancer or just starting out, NRG really does have something for everyone. Our Jazzercise center is currently located in the NRG ballroom in Tempe and I must say, this venue is by far the cleanest, roomiest, well kept location we have ever used. The 3 owners who rent space to us are very professional, cordial and willing to lend a hand to not only their dance students, but to our Jazzercise students as well. My wife and I were looking for a studio with a variety of dancing options. We enjoy ballroom, Latin, and west coast swing. NRGBallroom provides everything we desired in a ballroom. The new owners starting remodeling the facility two years ago and the facility is marvelous. The owners Gergana, Radomir and Nicolay teach ballroom style dancing on Friday evenings followed by a dance. Their interest in helping everyone (at all levels) learn the skills of dancing is tremendous. What I like is they have a wonderful sense of humor which makes the lessons prior to the dance a gly by. The quality of the lessons are amazing. Everyone you meet rotating though the class during lesions is a treat. We have also taken some private lessons with Gergana and Nicolay and they have the ability to adapt the teaching to what is needed. Having a large variety of dance styles and different instructors makes this location an ideal setting for enjoying a hobby that's both fun and healthy. I love this place. At first I was a little intimidated that it was a dance studio and I was hesitant to go. Once I got there everyone was so friendly and they have every kind of dance class you can think of. The prices are very reasonable. Usually $10 classes and a little more if you want private lessons. The groups are fun and many times they also have open dance afterwords which gives you a chance to practice. I want to go every night now. Such good exercise and so much fun. read more

Not a bad place to brush up on skills or just go to practice. They need to organize their classes better with the rotations. Keep couples in the center and all guests in a circle. Instructors also need to ensure lessons are taught at the appropriate level. Do not overwhelm your new guests. Better than Fat Cat, but nowhere near the level of Fred Astaire. read more
