My daughter has been dancing at Desert Star Dance for the past ten years, and I honestly can't say enough wonderful things about this studio. From her very first class as a young child to now as a confident, skilled dancer, the growth I've seen in her--both as a performer and as a person--has been incredible. It's our home away from home. Thanks DSD! read more

The team at Desert Star Dance is nothing short of first-class! As a former competitive dancer myself, I hold dance studios to a certain standard of professionalism and excellence. Ms. Ann and her team exceed this standard. Our daughter has loved growing in her technique and dance abilities from Wiggles & Giggles to a Tap/Ballet combo class, and I've enjoyed the studio so much, I even enrolled in an Adult class! Thank you for all you do for us and the community. -Tony Billings read more

Truly a "Home Away From Home " - Ms. Ann and the entire team at DSD is incredibly talented, professional, kind, and courteous. The dance studio is warm, inviting, and has a very comfortable atmosphere. The other families are all very nice and the studio is intimate with a warm family feel - perfect for dancers and their families. The staff is very friendly and takes the time to get to know your daughter as a dance student. They are very positive and encouraging! There are a variety of classes for whatever level you may be at. There are also a variety of class times so it can fit your schedule any day during the week. The price for classes is very fair and I can definitely appreciate the value! The recital is top notch and you can see all the hard work that is put in by the wonderful dance instructors and student dancers! Thank you Desert Star Dance! read more

My daughter wanted to try dance and Desert Start Dance was highly recommended by a friend. We had done rec dance through the city center, so we weren't sure what to expect. Miss Ann, the owner and director, is so welcoming and involved. We have been here for 3 years now and absolutely love it! We've done Tap and Ballet, but my daughters favorite has been Jazz and Tumble with Miss Janice! We love that there are only two required shows - Jingle Bell Jam, the winter production, and their annual production in June. An amazing studio for hobby dance and company dance for those wanting to further their skills. read more

My daughter has been going here for over 2 years. It's always a positive atmosphere with the other parents, they have THE best teachers and staff, and so much fun. I love being able to watch her classes through the viewing windows and very happy to not have to worry about not being able to have a seat while I wait. The recitals are amazing. So detail oriented, very fun to watch, and all of the dancers are so talented! We love DSD! read more

Not what I expected at all. I purchased a few Hip Hop classes through Gilbert Community Activities and was pretty disappointed in the class. The first two classes, the teachers spent over half the class talking. It took them over 20 minutes to even begin the warmup. Once the warmup was done, it was more sitting around and talking. The first time it happened, I thought it was for the kids to get to know one another as it was the first class. Then when it happened the following week, I told another mom about it and she said that wasn't normal. She complained to the main lady at the front and she promised it would get handled. I mean my daughter wasn't even leaving the class sweaty. She didn't even break out in a sweat at all in the first two sessions. The next two classes were MUCH improved. The teachers "assistant" (not sure why she needed one other than to be distracted by her) wasn't there and they got to dancing immediately. My daughter was so excited because she actually danced. Then I came in for the 5th class and it was so much talking, AGAIN! I just couldn't believe it. In the entire session of classes, they never even learned a dance! From all the great reviews this place has, I was super disappointed. I danced for over 15 years growing up and had expectations of what a dance class should consist of. The other classes seemed to meet that standard, the moms talked about it being like that "normally", and I saw a hint of it in 2 of the 8 classes. I wouldn't recommend this hip hop class at all. It was Wednesdays at 7pm just so people know what to avoid if they want to seriously get their child into dance. read more

Desert Star Dance has been awesome for my daughter Dakota. She has been a dance student there for a year now. We love that once a year she gets to try out new classes and see if a new dance style appeals to her. For now, she absolutely loves hip hop and every instructor she has had is fun and upbeat and does an excellent job with the kids. She also really enjoyed the recital in June. It was a great production and it allows you to see the range of talented dancers at Desert Star Desert. read more

Love this dance studio. My girls have been going here for a few years now. Took a break last season and when we came back I was excited to see they moved to their current location (much bigger space). There's lots of room to sit and wait or watch your kids get their dance on. When we came to register for the year, they recognized my girls and were happy to see them again. They just love their teachers. I was contemplating trying out another studio nearer to my house but I'm glad we didn't. I don't mind the drive because my girls love it here. Plus they put on awesome recitals!! Very professional and entertaining. I feel like I'm getting my monies worth seeing them perform on such a grand stage! read more

My son has been dancing at Desert Star for over 4 years now and it has been one of the best decisions we ever made. He gets amazing confidence building there, made friends for a lifetime, and has truly become an awesome dancer. The staff are very helpful and treat my son like family. To me, there's no other choice in choosing a studio for your child to dance at!! read more

My daughter is 8 and she is in the dance class twice a week for belle combo and she loves both teachers and enjoy the classes very much. I was very impressed the show she performed on Christmas program and appreciated that Ann puts a lot effort to make sure students love dancing and build up confidence not just about wining the contest. I certainly see the outcome while she danced on the the Ester Sunday program at the church. I am very happy with the classes and service DSD provides and strongly recommend it. read more

We are very happy to have found this dance studio. The teachers are very friendly and knowledgeable about dance. After performing and growing up with dance in my childhood for over 10 years it was important for us to find a dance home for our daughter. She is almost 4 and in the tot's combo class and tumbling. The facility is clean, I love that there are couches and tables to sit at and even a kitchen for students to eat and do homework while at dance. I wish I had this growing up. I would get home at between 9-10pm and then eat dinner. The location is convenient, and I look forward to watching my daughter at her first recital. read more

The best dance studio around Phoenix, AZ! Ann is the most passionate teacher I've been ever blessed to learn from, and has instilled so much of that passion into me for more than just dance. The creativity she exudes has taught me to put that into everything I do. Because of her stellar performance capabilities and ability to connect with her students and INSPIRE, she helped me fulfill my lifelong dream of becoming a professional NBA cheerleader for the Phoenix Suns. I 100% believe that while I wasn't the most spectacular dancer on the team throwing out quadruple piourettes every other move, I did have a special kind of style. One with energy and entertainment, and one where I constantly had fans coming up telling me I was their favorite to watch. Desert Star teaches you how to get out of your shell and truly learn to love to DANCE. As someone who's trained around the country and all around AZ, to me there will never be a better studio than Desert Star. read more

Love this studio! My daughter did hip hop last year and is in Jazz/tap combo. Ms. Ashley is fantastic. Such great energy. My daughter loves it here. Recital is such a fun time too- very well run and organized company!! read more

My 3 yr old daughter looks forward to going to Desert Star Dance each week and is gaining confidence in her new skills! Her teacher, Kyla, does well with enforcing some structure, while still keeping the class engaging and FUN! I like being able to watch my daughter through the 2-way mirror or I can sit comfortably on the couches/chairs provided. When I initially inquired about the free trial class, the staff responded promptly and answered all my questions. Trial tap and ballet shoes were provided by the studio, which was very helpful, as I didn't have time to order everything prior to the first class. I believe the fees for registration and classes are reasonable. My daughter is in a tap/ballet combo class. The teacher starts class on time and makes sure to keep breaks brief, so we really do get our money's worth with nearly a full hour of dance per class. I looked at many dance studios and am pleased with our decision to go with Desert Star Dance! read more

Daughter loves it. It keeps her from playing games and watching TV. Staff is very friendly. The only negative thing is the Parking Lot. It can be very hectic. People seem to think it is a school zone there when they drop off there kids. I recently almost ran over a little girl running around a car that just stopped in the middle of the driveway of the parking lot to get to her dance class. I then received a tongue lashing from a Grandmother who told me there was Dance School there. That there is. There is also a restaurant that serves alcohol in the same parking lot, Safeway sells Alcohol, a pizza place, and a few other small businesses. Park in a parking space and walk your kids to class if you value you them. At least turn your car, so they do not have to cross the driveway of the parking lot. read more

We are new to Desert Start Dance this year and my daughter is loving it! She is getting top notch instruction from her regular dance teachers to the special guest choreographers they bring in. The instructors are very knowledgeable and the technical instruction that my daughter is getting is some of the best she has ever received. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well. This is a nice group of dancers and parents- something that is very important to me. The dance team has really made her feel welcome! read more

Ann is THE BEST teacher in the valley!!! Her passion, expertise, knowledge really comes thru clearly. I've taken my daughter to other studios in Chandler/Gilbert. They don't even come close! They are small time amateurs in this business compared to Ann! I highly recommend taking your child to her! You won't be disappointed! read more

In a world of "Crazy Dance Mom Drama" and inappropriate attire, music and choreography for kids - DSD is a breath of fresh air. Kiddos are always in dressed in age appropriate attire, dancing to appropriate lyrics, and choreography. As a mom - that makes me VERY HAPPY (Especially her dad) My daughter was introduced to the love of dance there when she was 3 and is now in one of the Company groups at age 7. She as well as my husband and I have made some life long friends there that we now call FAMILY. The teachers as well as staff have become FAMILY as well. I know that we are surrounded by people with good core values, the love of dance, and the importance of well balanced family and extra curricular life. I continue to drive 30 minutes to come to the studio that truly loves DANCE and has placed the love of Dance as priority one when instructing their students. Their is discipline - but there is no unhealthy competition.... Everyone supports their fellow dancers and families. The move to the new studio this month is great, state of the art facility!! We will continue to call DSD our home away from home and encourage anyone looking for a "Dance Home" to come check out DSD Shauna A. read more

My daughter has been in this dance school for several months and it is the best decision we've ever made. All of the teachers are great with the children. The discipline, the structure, the staff are all reasons why we continue to be a part of this studio. The director Ms. Ann is a strong, kind woman and really knows how to deal with children of all ages. My daughter has gained so much confidence while learning to dance appropriately and be a part of a team. I would recommend this studio to anyone looking for a positive environment that challenges your child(ren). The music is great and always age appropriate which is a plus and they just added a store inside to make it convenient to purchase items your child may need for class. read more

My daughter is in Miss Ann's Tuesday night combo class and she loves it. She has so much fun and never wants to miss a class. She's making some good friends, and her self-esteem is improving with each class. I'm so glad I switched her from her previous dance studio. They're currently preparing for a recital in December, and we can't wait! The staff is always so friendly and welcoming. I love that there are 3 different areas to wait for the kids to let out of class. read more

My 11 year old daughter started at Desert Star Dance this summer with their "Sampler" that was an affordable way for her to go to a number of classes and figure out what she liked. My daughter started with Desert Star Dance in August and she absolutely loves it. She went to a different dance school before this one, but she is more engaged at DSD. We've been a part of the Desert Star Dance family for 6 years and we love it! Ann keeps everything age-appropriate which is not the case in most other studios. The instructors are awesome and are very encouraging. They get the most out of the kids while keeping it fun. The new facility is WONDERFUL! The space is fabulous and the couches are comfortable! :) The front office staff is super friendly and are always willing to help you with whatever you need. Whether you are a once-a-weeker or a company kid, everyone is treated the same. I am very happy that we are a part of such an awesome family! read more

We haven't been with Desert Star long so I can't as yet speak on the recitals or costumes but as far as instruction I've been super impressed by the depth and detail provided! My daughter is a 14 year old beginner to dance. It is nearly impossible to find a class for her age group and lack of experience. Most studios offer the opportunity to join a class either younger or the same age and way more experienced, and both prospects presented some serious embarrassment for a teen. This beginner teen class is exceptional. Scott gives individual correction when needed, demonstrates the proper form and technique and then allows them another opportunity to try it the correct way. I have seen huge improvement in my daughter in a very short time. Scott is also funny and kind and the class responds positively to his teaching style. Excellent class highly recommended! read more

My daughter (7) started Jazz class about 6 months ago and we just signed her up for hip hop too! She absolutely LOVES her instructor Amanda and looks forward to class every week. Amanda is very energetic and does so well with all of the kids. I never see a child not smiling having a good time in her class. They offer a variety of classes and class times that work well for this full time working mom. Very satisfied read more
