My daughter wanted to try dance and Desert Start Dance was highly recommended by a friend. We had done rec dance through the city center, so we weren't sure what to expect. Miss Ann, the owner and director, is so welcoming and involved. We have been here for 3 years now and absolutely love it! We've done Tap and Ballet, but my daughters favorite has been Jazz and Tumble with Miss Janice! We love that there are only two required shows - Jingle Bell Jam, the winter production, and their annual production in June. An amazing studio for hobby dance and company dance for those wanting to further their skills.

My hip hoppers ready for recital pictures!

Does DSD offer adult classes? I miss taking dance even though I am super rusty. I have been thinking of taking dance classes again.

Hello Jannie, Yes! We do. We suggest doing a drop-in so that you can gauge if you think the class is the right fit for you. We have Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop or Tap. Here is our full listing:…

I had been associated with the dance company for two years, and before now had long suffered a lack of transparency in billing, a bothersome demonstrated lack of organization concerning the scheduling of events and practices, and inconsistency in instruction due to several instructor resignations during my daughter's two year enrollment at USA. Things began to look up this August when a new, highly motivated instructor/assistant director came on board; the parents and students immediately felt her positive impact on instruction with hopes for organization to the chaos. Our children were learning new things and looked forward to each practice. This all changed at the end of August when this same instructor quit suddenly. Our experience with her has brought into focus our dissatisfaction with USA Dance Company. A group of us decided to explore other dance companies in the area. At each one (six in total), I saw greater transparency with billing and costs for supplies in 20 minutes than I ever saw at USA Dance Company. At USA Dance Company, I paid for a uniform in August ($350), I paid monthly tuition of $210, I paid a $300 team fee in June, I paid $420 in "fees" in September for future competitions, costumes and choreography, and I paid a special fee of $140 for trio choreography. A few of examples of a lack of transparency include the discrepancy between the Internet-listed team fee of $250 and the actual $300 team fee that we paid, this $300 'team fee' was unexplained (the other dance companies we toured either had a minimal fee or a larger fee which was later applied to competitions), parents paying different fees for the same dance hours (I paid $210, but there others paying $140 for the same instruction), as well as getting charged for a backpack that was supposedly optional (and we opted out). Since the aforementioned instructor quit, trio choreography practices were cancelled for September 9-14. General classes were cancelled or rearranged due to not enough instructors being available, never mind the fact that many of us had already arranged our lives and work schedules to meet the previously published class schedules. This pushed me, and others, over the edge and we severed our relationship with USA Dance Company. They have a "no refund" policy, so no matter that instruction was not available as originally arranged, no matter that the choreography we had contracted for was no longer available from the instructor we had been so impressed with, and no matter that the year's upcoming competitions and recitals have not been held; our money is in the possession of USA Dance Company and will not be refunded. I, along with others, did seek compensation for the uniform that we purchased. We reasonably wanted either a full refund of the uniform fee or the physical uniform that we had paid for. We have been given no indication that we will receive either. One parent was allegedly told by Tina Taylor-Schmidt, Director of Dance, that USA Dance Company would not be issuing a refund or items for the uniform fee nor for the costumes. I tried to verify with Marchel, billing administrator, via email on September 29 and again on October 3, but I have received no response. This stonewalling is not only annoying and unprofessional; it seems illegal. We paid for a physical product, the dance company received/will receive the physical product, and that physical product should, at the very least, be provided to those of us who paid for it. I will continue to pursue this matter, but in the meantime I felt it my duty to warn others of this business's shady operating practices. Once we made our intentions known (to seek out membership with a new dance company), the relationship with USA Dance Company turned sour. This is not the professional demeanor one should expect from a legitimate business venture.

If you're new to dancing and looking to learn a choreo routine in a non competitive environment,…read morethis is the place for you. Check out their Instagram page for photos. What I love: the friendly environment, the community aspect, and meeting new people wanting to learn to dance and also encouraging you when you need it. What I don't love: the space is a bit small, lacking air circulation, class times, learning the routines can be challenging for someone with no dance experience. Read below for full review I found Diva Dance on Instagram as a sponsored post and joined as a founding member last year when they opened. I have never taken any dance classes before and thought this was the perfect time to learn something new. Shannon, the owner, is super nice and friendly and the dance instructors are welcoming as well. The studio space is not owned by Diva Dance, but each location will have the name of the dance studio they will be at and they will have a Diva Dance CE up front to check you in. The space is a bit small and does not have mirrors at the end of the room, so arrive about 5 minutes before class so you can find a spot in the studio that you're comfortable. Some prefer the side with no mirrors or a specific area of the room. Since studio does not provide efficient fans and is not an open space, it can also get pretty warm due. Wear what you would feel comfortable working out in and bring some water and small towel. The classes are an hour long and include a community question, warmup, time to learn the routine, split into groups to perform, and a cool down. Although the class time is an hour long, you get about 40 minutes to learn the routine. Each instructor has their own style of dance and how they teach a routine, so you may find it easier learning from one instructor over another, like if you easily pick up pop moves, but find it harder learning lyrical. The dance moves will be repeated in other routines, so if you don't pick it up on the first time, you'll see it again in another routine. They do record the performances on a phone or iPad and post on social, if you're shy, you can hang out on the side or ask them to skip over you during filming. Each month a calendar is released showing what songs you can learn a routine to, so you're learning a fresh routine each time. Some of the routines will have a theme, like lyrical, heels, or poms. They also have workshops and monthly community events to get to know each other outside of class. Most of the classes start at 8:15pm and Saturdays are 12:15pm. Each location has a different schedule though. Nikki is my favorite instructor, her energy lights up the room! As the room is small and depending on where you standing, it can be hard to see the instructors. In her classes, she moves around the room when teaching and can see when dancers are struggling to pick up the choreo. You can feel the joy and passion she has for dance! Please note, her classes are also the most challenging.

The teachers seems aloof and not kid friendly. The monthly payment is high, but probably comparable to other dance schools, however they make you pay for everything. The costume for the play was almost a $100, and I could have made a better job myself. The school sent a list of makeup items for the official play picture, and they were outrageously expensive; I feel sorry for some of the parent that felt compelled to buy them from the list. We decided to do it ourselves and the results were so much better! In addition to the monthly payment, the expensive costume, and make up, they also charge you a hefty fee for your kid to participate in the play. What is the point of the class then? Why are we paying the monthly payment to begin with? Isn't the play the culmination of a year of class? Oh, and both parents are required to buy tickets for the play (I would have thought that at least one parent would be free of charge since it's a minor participating), but the worst of all, they don't even reserve the tickets for you; you have to go into the system where everybody else is buying tickets, and good luck finding good seats. I don't mind paying a high price for things, but I need to see value for my money, and this school does not offer it.
