Cool outdoor hangout off the beaten path (for real, you're going to need your GPS for this one). Sandwiched in between some automotive repair shops and warehouses is Nowadays, an oasis for those that love the open air, like me! Lots of picnic tables, a drink stand, and a food stand frame this simple, no-frills yard. It's like the urban backyard of your dreams. It's fenced in, with geometric shapes printed on the perimeter in nice bold colors. They serve beer, sodas, burgers, grilled cheese sandwiches, brats, grilled corn, and a few other things. I think everything on the menu was under $10 too. Check Instagram if the weather seems ify (they'll post to let you know whether or not they're open). Just a heads up that this venue is completely outdoors so if it starts raining, you'll be a bit out of luck for finding cover. If it's scorching hot there are a few umbrellas and they also have bug spray. If living in the city has you bummed on not having a backyard, think of Nowadays as your own personal oasis. There's plenty of room for all of your friends, and the laid back atmosphere will keep you there for hours. Enjoy it before summer ends! read more

Been here twice. Chill vibes on a Thursday and much more packed on Saturday. Really unique outside area that's good any day of the week and nice indoor dance floor, was empty on Thursday but good on Saturday. read more

I was accosted by a woman on the staff with a bright green short haircut. She looked like she would be smart enough to understand consent so why she felt the need to yank my arm down because I had my phone on the dance floor is beyond me. She could've conveyed her message simply by speaking to me. It was the only time I had my phone out and clearly didn't see the signage saying it wasn't allowed so to come at me with that level of aggression was extremely egregious. The actual security staff in front of the venue were all extremely professional conveying directions; the "manager" acting in this fashion was jarring to say the least. Her energy reminded me how those who are physically weak conduct themselves when they have strength/power in numbers. If I grabbed her the same way she did me there isn't a doubt in my mind she would've summoned every law enforcement agency under the sun. Her energy was incredibly off putting and I have zero desire to return. read more

I came here expecting a fun time and got on line, but got kicked out of the line for talking back to the a woman supervising the line when she was rushing me and my friend. Completely unprofessional since she said my friend and I were unable to walk when that was untrue. A complete power trip and ruined the night for us. read more

For Labor Day they posted an event on Facebook promoting a free barbecue. Not a free barbecue. Apparently usually charge a cover even for the outside space. They didn't charge it today. Apparently you can get in for free but nothing was free to get. From one truck I ordered a beer on tap. When I finished that I decided to get some food. I know there were a few trucks selling food but this one had a painted sign that said "FOOD". I ordered the jerk chicken with flatbread and sweet plantains. $17. Seriously? read more

I reserved two tables here for my birthday celebration on a Saturday. The process was super easy and the staff was very accommodating when I had to change the date last minute. I used to frequent this place when it first open and it was incredible to see the transformation! The space is well decorated and a nice vacation from your busy NYC life. The drinks are good and cheap (compared to other NYC places)! The spiked lemonade is no joke so tread with caution. The bathroom trailers provide a great backdrop for your golden hour selfies and inside they're very clean. They also have games you can check out as well as other events happening throughout the month. I wish I didn't live in Philadelphia so I couldn't frequent this place! read more

I've been to Nowadays a few times over the last few years in some kind of group setting (small, medium, and large). Perfect place to hang with any number of friends over a few drinks. Our most recent visit was a success. They are pretty good about following COVID guidelines, and online reservations are required. They also have a $5+tax cover per person now. Generally, cover charges really bother me but in the end, we decided that the cover here was totally worth it, especially because our reservation was at one of the fire pits (staff member regularly replenished logs too). The backyard patio is massive and really nicely decorated. Food options are limited and usually pricey and not too impressive. I think they rotate food trucks. Basically, don't come here starving. We definitely plan on coming back, especially since this is the ideal socially distant outdoor setting to comfortably hang out in, even on chilly nights. read more

The location is in a very interesting, secluded spot. It's nice that it's walking distance from Bushwick. Their set up felt very safe to me with COVID. After you check in on your reservation, they tell you which table you're assigned to, and every table is labeled. The tables are physically distanced comfortably. You order your drinks at the bar and your food from the trucks available to bring back to your table. (The bartender makes a mean Moscow Mule.) They play good music, they have a pitcher where you can get water, and the best part is that they have bug spray!!! read more

I was at nowadays with a couple of friends about a week ago, I didn't spend long enough here to really experience it fully so this review is really only about the food. I ordered the jerk chicken thighs with rice and beans, the other alternative was flatbread. After about 1 minute the food was ready. No exaggeration - this was the absolute worst rice I've ever had in my life. Hands down. It could not have been worse. There were no grains, it was just one big rice glob. I brought it back and the woman who handles the orders asked the cook "is the rice fresh?" and his answer was "I don't know." They offered me "flatbread" instead, which was a large tortilla. Because of how hungry I was, the chicken was edible, but it was pretty bad and was definitely not jerk chicken. read more

Worst bar ever. Chris and Badger, two security guards, are sooooo misogynistic. They pointed me and my friends out and had us wait in line for two hours even though they knew they weren't going to let us in. They picked us out and fought with us, saying we had "5 different story lines," even though we were just trying to explain a very simple human idea of what had happened, . We weren't rowdy. They're awful human beings who do not deserve to determine who gets into a bar -- and who are willing to pay -- and who does not. It seems like they were just angry men taking it out on women who were trying to have a good time. And the worst part about it all is that we were sooo nice, read more

I'm torn with how to rate this place because the space is awesome and the staff is nice, they have rules and make it a safe space for everyone but the drinks are horrible. The music is just okay, the bathrooms are dirty and there's never toilet paper plus there's always a leak- and they charge a cover to get in. I think perhaps in the summer this would be nice to come to so you can hang outside but in the winter it was okay at best. read more

sorry but i hated this place, the venue itself is cool but the people are horrendous. just horrendous vibes from the bouncers, horrendous vibes from the music, and everyone looked sad to be there. like genuinely not one person looked happy. the man next to us was crying probs bc of how bad it was in there. good luck to whoever decides to give this place a chance i hope you have a better time than we did read more

Wondrous spot, very glad I came across Nowadays. I was having myself a Greg Day Out at Grand Central Station. I like to go there and get on different trains for a few stops, get off the train, take the same line back to Grand Central, go shopping a little at the Hudson News, play on the iPads at the Apple store, get on another train/rinse/repeat. Well I got confused and ended up in Brooklyn. No problem! I left my glasses at home and thought I saw a bear in a tree. The bear jumped down from the tree... I yelled "bear!" I start to run away. I think I am safe, but I turn around and who is it other than that same bear. That's when I realized I ran in a complete circle around the block. "Are you OK?" he asks me. "I'm fine," I say to the bear. "I don't need your help." Now I'm feeling like I could go for a few hours of pinball. I go into an arcade and am at the pinball machine when a voice behind me says "you know the machine's been off the whole time, you never put any tokens in." I turn around... "BEAR," I exclaim! He says "I'm just a guy." Then it all made sense, he was normal size and his outline looked much more like a human than a bear. That's when we decided to leave the arcade and go to Nowadays. Well, it was more their decision, and I tagged along. Off we went. Those boys paid for my ticket in, very kind. I decided to make it up to them by buying them something at the bar. "45 beef miso rice balls please!" We hit the dance floor and danced our cares away. A security guard came up to me and said please put your phone away we do not permit phones on the dance floor. It was not a phone, it was a beef miso rice ball. It was very foggy in there. His mistake. Nowadays, I will be back! read more

So many good things to share about this place! During the day you'll find a great outdoor space that really brings the community together. It's a family friendly spot with a backyard setting. They have several outdoor bar and food truck options that service dozens of picnic tables and a large area with outdoor games. This is a great area for large get togethers or for just enjoying the space. Inside you'll find a tap room featuring an Evil Twin Brewery pop-up and a lovely seating area with lots of tables and beautiful greenery. At night Nowadays transforms into a space where you can enjoy late-night DJs, a great sound system, and a safer space policy. The staff is really friendly and there is plenty of room to dance or chill in a lounge area. This is a one of a kind spot built for the community that I would return to again and again. read more

If i could leave zero, I would. Was so excited to check out the djs for this event that my friends were introducing me to. Our friend visiting from France who works in nightlife was also very excited and knew one of the artists. This "person" approach one of my friends and I and casually asked "are you here to see a specific dj?" which i assumed was just to spark conversation and joy for the night ahead. Boy was I wrong. Instead of a conversation we were forced to leave the line because we weren't there for a specific dj... talk about gatekeeping at its finest! We were told we had to leave, cut and dry. How do you think that makes someone feel? It wasn't packed. It was not sold out. And we were approached in this hostile manner. Do better. read more

Came here for the Evil Twin tap takeover, but stayed for the awesome decor and staff. The place can be a bit hard to find if you're an idiot like me. You enter through an open gate and then it's to the right. There's a bunch of tables inside, bar seats, and a gigantic bright, very green back area with tables and couches. I just stayed at the bar and just went down the list of Evil Twin beers. They were all great. They also had other beers available in cans, wine, and some non-alcoholic drinks. They have a bar menu, which looked amazing, but I wasn't ready for food yet. My bartender Lorna was great! read more

The place is pretty cute. It's outdoors with benches but the reason I give 2 stars is because all theirs drinks are pre- made. Pitchers or regular cocktail, it's all pre- made. They taste old and watered down. I got both the margarita pitcher and the spiked lemonade (which is supposedly the least sour drink here) and they are both supppppperrr sour. If you like super sour then this is the place for you. read more

It's nearly impossible to find so much space to drink, eat, hang, and dance in Manhattan so it's worth it to make the trek out to Ridgewood once in a while. I've been here on a quiet Friday night as well as a bustling Sunday evening for Mister Sunday and both times have been impressed by how chill the atmosphere is. At Mister Sunday, dogs and babies wearing those cute noise cancelling headphones mixed with groups of people ready to party and dance. It's rare to find such a truly mixed crowd! The bar was stocked with plenty of beer options as well as fun cocktails including Aperol spritzes and mezcal palomas. There's a food truck down the way that offers things like burgers, dogs, and fries - simple and hearty outdoor patio type of food. And though the bathrooms are porta potties, they have the fancy trailer style ones so you can pee in relative style. It's a great place for the community especially during the summer months (don't know what happens to it during the winter). I'm really glad I finally checked it out! read more

Good for quite dogs! Relaxing atmosphere for adults at least during this Saturday's afternoon. Few choices on the menu and pricey. Bar is pretty good on the dollar! Using Maps from iPhone threw us far from the actually place. Google saved us. Parking was not an obstacle but if you don't have a designated driver, take a cab. . Neighborhood can be intimated for those coming outside of Brooklyn but we felt pretty good inside . I could keep reviewing this place but I am going for a margarita, maybe later I catch up with you ;) read more

Kids, dogs, families, friends...everyone is welcome and everyone seems to have a blast in the magical fun wonderland that is Nowadays. I can't think of a more fun place than an open space with a dance floor, food trucks, ping pong and other games...does it get any better than this? Good music, food, and company can make for some fantastic shenanigans for a Sunday (or any day) Funday. This place is beautiful i recently moved into the area and decided to go there with two of my friends. I wanted my friends to have a nice experience as they came out of town to see me. However the bartender (young woman with black hair )was so rude to me and my friends. She asked for ID and we said " we haven't been carded in a while that is nice " making a joke , she responded in a condescending tone " well I don't have a bouncer what do you want" and we told her it wasn't in a negative way she continued to be rude and we went to sit and have our drinks. We went for our second round and she proceeded to be so rude to my friend and had the audacity to mess up her drink and refuse to remake it and CALLED HER HOMEGIRL ! well we are African american and with a combination of her rudeness AND CALLING HER HOMEGIRL, we were left feeling discriminated against and uncomfortable this was an embarrassment to me and my friends and I hope she gets sensitivity training ! if this is not rectified i will contact the NYC Dept on Human rights. read more

Outdoors, this place has got to do a better job of controlling mosquitoes. The good is ok, and the vibe is laidback and cool, but I saw multiple people slathering on bug repellant, and I see why now - I had giant bug bites on two separate occasions from going here. We had to leave early b/c they were so aggressive. And honestly, I know this sounds ridiculous, but until they do something about this problem, I'm really not going back. That's how bad the mosquito problem is at Nowadays - they're losing business b/c of it. OWNERS - Please do something about this. read more

I loved all the outdoor seating options! So much room feels great especially considering Covid and wanting to keep a distance from others. I was there tonight for the dance club. The vibe is cool. They have some strict non discrimination and indecency rules which I really appreciated. I just wish people took them seriously. A group of people, specifically one man, stood next to me for a good 20 to 30 minutes and he continuously leaned into me. He wasn't the only one in the group. I didn't say anything because I didn't know what to do. I should've had them kicked out. The music was terrible! The same beat for three hours. I tried my best to dance but it wasn't even a good or hard enough beat to get me moving. No familiar music you can get into. I looked out on the dance floor and everyone was two stepping. The prices are decent. Staff seemed nice. I think it needs a lot of work. read more

Definitely a cute spot to spend a night out in the summer! There is a food truck as well you can order food from. They have ping pong tables as well as a bunch of games you can rent for free from the bar area including cards against humanity, checkers and backgammon. We went on a Saturday night and there were plenty of picnic tables. The place is really big! Dog friendly and there were even some kids there. Drinks are a bit pricey and the pre mixed "house" drinks tasted like there was zero alcohol in them. It's best to stick to beer here. Perfect for large parties! read more

This place use to be amazing.... unfortunately it fell off hard. The music is still amazing, but the staff is probably the worst crew ever assembled. You need to be either a total moron, junkie, or sleezeball to get the gig here. The beer selection is really horrible and the food could be so much better. Such a shame because the vibe and music are still on point. Owners should get the staff a better a create something more user friendly. read more

Saturday night, 10pm. Nice crowd. Great atmosphere to kick back and enjoy the beer menu and whatever games you want to bring from home. Picnic table seating with unique lighting set up. Staff is friendly and patient. I was hoping for much better mix of music and was disappointed for the food truck having 1 option left on their menu by this time. It seems like if the place is open so late, the menu should be able to hold the crowd. Also, typical area pricing for the 'pork bowl' meal, tad bit pricey and the portion was skimp. Left starving and in need of a good music playlist for the ride home. read more

Really l unsure about this place. I seen this place on til too and I was under the impression that it was a restaurant. I get there and it's like a night club . My partner and intended up going elsewhere and after reading the reviews I feel like we dodged a bullet. There's a lot more bad reviews then good ones. Visited on a sunday for their day time party! I loved the little speech they gave before letting people in about how everyone deserves to feel safe and respected. That really set the tone for the day. The music was awesome and everyone was having a great time dancing. Chris and Badger -- the security guards on line are two of the worst and most misogynist men I have ever experienced. As soon as my group of girl friends and I got on the line, they were on us. They persecuted us the entire time even after we decided to wait on the line for 2 hours... it was odd because we were trying to pay and we we waited on the line. Overall, it seems like these two security guards just got a knack out of exuding their power over women who just wanted to have a good time. They were very mean and do not deserve their jobs. Horrible men. There was one small Latino guy who was kind, but overall did not help us out. We're also a group of chill, nice girls. I have never experienced anything like this. read more

Wedged between a reclaimed building materials business, a motorcycle/tire shop, freight train tracks and a crazy-loud alcapurrias food truck, you'll find Nowadays as a testament to the gentrification that is sweeping Bushwick. The grill food options are cooked to perfection and might make you think you've stumbled upon a friend's awesome BBQ ... if your friend had the largest backyard imaginable. For Rhode Islanders who miss their neck of the woods, you won't believe your eyes when you see that Narragansett Beer / Del's Lemonade Shandy is on the excellent and expertly curated beer menu. For everyone else, you'll wonder why you don't live in Rhode Island after consuming a six-pack. A concrete, all-weather Ping-Pong table and several picnic tables and benches complement the manicured gravel-and-grass grounds, and umbrellas provide respite from the summer heat. No doubt the air-conditioned bathroom trailer does too! For all the parents in the area, you'll be thankful they open early and that there's only one entrance, so you can make sure your mini-me doesn't wander off to explore the otherwise mostly industrial neighborhood. Having lived here seven years, I couldn't have imagined a better addition to the neighborhood. Thank you, thank you, thank you! read more

I used to recommend this place as one of the only fully welcoming locations to go dancing at. I was even a Patreon during covid with dwindling money just to keep them afloat. But today, even thought I was first in line in freezing temp and had rsvped, the doorman had made a mistake in charging me full price. Instead of correcting the error he offered to charge me $10 more to correct for myself and my wife I was also RSVPing for but then when I agreed to it to avoid drama he decided to instead not allow us entry bc "he didnt like my energy". Total cost with RSVP before 6 should only be $10 each but he was being "nice" in charging is $30. He was also extremely high which normally I would be ok with, but only on the occasion that you are reasonable and welcoming. Making a mistake and then waiting for the person who called it out to agree to your unreasonable fix and then turning us away completely bc of our "energy" is just ludicrous. There was only 1 other person on line, maybe it's time to write this place off my list. Oh and the only other person in line, they made her buy a ticket and then continue to wait outside in the cold. Didnt stay long enough to figure out why. read more

Spoke to the cook who was extremely friendly, to get his recommendation. I recommend the bratwurst. The red cabbage slaw was super good (I enjoyable the rye seeds).
