I usually arrive no more than five minutes late for appointments. My haircut takes twenty minutes, and I always tip generously, so I never imagined it was a major concern. However, instead of communicating with me directly to address any perceived issue, I received a last-minute cancellation call at 6:31 pm on 12/1, just as I pulled into the parking lot for my 6:30 pm appointment. The reason given was simply that "they're not feeling well", when they obviously were banking on me arriving late, given they called as soon as the clock hit 6:31 pm. I celebrated my birthday here with my friends. It was a great experience. Melita scheduled everything and made sure to help us even at the last minute. I was gifted a spa service for the birth of my daughter 6 months ago. I have tried to go twice now. The first time I had an appointment for a pedicure, they called me a few hours before to tell me the person scheduled to do my pedicure threw up and had to go home. (TMI) I tried to go back again, scheduled a time for a pedicure. I showed up about 5 minutes before my scheduled time, then sat in the waiting room for 33 minutes, just for them to come tell me it was taking longer than expected for the girl ahead of me and asked if I could reschedule. My husband purchased a gift card for our wedding anniversary. I went for a hydro facial. I have had a hydro facial service before and other facial services at other spas. Normally this service takes about an hour...well at Nouveau my $175 service took 15 minutes . ..20 if you you count changing clothes and filling out paperwork. So they charge $700 an hour?? I was so disappointed! I felt cheated. 15 minutes!! Salon called to offer a discount on another facial service. Why would I ever come back to spend more $$ to receive a discount? I was told because I didn't have problem skin my service was shorter. So if you have good skin you receive less of a service. I am letting everyone I know about my disappointing experience. I don't normally leave reviews but I don't like getting ripped off. Hopefully this will help others who go here to ask questions and avoid what happened to me. read more

This was by far the worst hair experience of my life. Quanda is very unprofessional and lazy along with her rude friend, Elizabeth, who was playing receptionist for the evening and quite lacking. When I called earlier about running 7 minutes late due to an accident, she stated, "Well, I'll see what Quanda has to say" then proceeded to hang up the phone in my face without even saying good bye. How unprofessional. Upon arrival, Quanda looked at my hair and came up with some lazy excuse as to not do my hair per her "consultation" with another staff. She was very rude and you can't tell she was lying as her lip quivered trying to hold back a smile. She shouldn't have accepted the appointment if she didn't want to work. I have come here plenty of times but this B-list and rude staff present tonight is a disappointment to the establishment. While waiting to hear about our refund, Quanda, Tyler, and Elizabeth sat in the back laughing like we couldn't hear them. I would like my refund ASAP and will continue to post about this disappointing and rude/ignorant experience. For the supposed quality of service you perform, this is quite disappointing particularly dealing with your staff due to their lack of professionalism. They lost a loyal customer. read more

Our services themselves were overall okay. Our group had makeup done, two blowouts, one massage and one pedicure. Apparently, half the staff (and all of the stylists) were in NYC doing a styling seminar. The remaining staff was not the best, as they told us over and over again. I booked these appointments for my visiting friends before my baby shower 2 months in advance. I was coming into town and had asked around for recommendations of good spas -- especially since my friends were coming in from NYC and Boston and expect great things. During the time I booked and arrived, I talked to the spa on several occasions. So, I was really embarrassed and upset that the no one from the spa let me know that we would be getting sub-par, rushed treatments and that I would be sharing my makeup artist with another client! Overall, the pedicure was supposed to also include a manicure. The man who did it took too long, and we didn't have enough time left to get the manicure too. The massage and the blowouts were all great, though the stylist on one blowout kept telling one of my friends how inexperienced she was and so my friend gave her a lot of direction. My makeup was okay. The main reason I went was to get fake eyelashes, as I can't put them on myself. My fake eyelashes weren't glued on correctly and kept popping off throughout my event. This was mainly because my makeup artist was delayed and then had to stop in the middle of doing my makeup to go do another client's hair dye. I have no idea what the spa is like when the full staff is there. It looks very pretty and everyone was very nice. However, I would not go back after our experience. read more

My boyfriend and I are visiting Mobile for the summer. He scheduled a couples massage....AND IT WAS AMAZING! The girl at the front was very friendly and was very prompt on getting us situated. After filling out a short questionnaire regarding our expectations and medical conditions our designated masseuses introduced themselves and got started. The couples massage was an hour long and $150- all of which was worth it. The atmosphere was relaxing and the massage included hot towel placement, hot stones, and therapeutic deep tissue massaging- it was not just a gentle rub like many places do now days. Recently we got massages here as well and we were definitely impressed. It was a neck and should massage, half an hour for $40. We will definitely be making that a regular thing. Pleasant enough atmosphere. Nicely decorated. I give two stars because I received a very awkward manicure from Marie. She was rudely questioning my requests for polish of all things. She hardly spoke to me and when I tried to talk with her she looked at me like if looks could kill almost and seemed like she wanted to be anywhere but there. Basically, my $40 nail service consisted of her painting my nails and it was supposed to be the best nail service available. I would never go there again. They have lackluster service. Great experience for my first Brazilian wax. It has been quite some time since my visit and I have forgotten my technician's name, but the atmosphere was very quiet and tranquil. She talked me through the entire experience and explained how to take care of everything afterwards. Reflecting back, the wax was hard which required extra tugging and I wish she had trimmed me before hand, but overall a great experience. I am only docking a star because of the price. It was more expensive than I would have liked to pay. I would suggest taking some ibuprofen before hand for any first timmers. read more

Unsanitary waxing. Was there recently for a Brazilian, mani, pedi. It wasn't until we finished that I noticed only one spatula on the table. There were none in the trash. She used the same spatula the entire time. She also does not use hard wax. The pedi was well done but the manicure was sloppy. She was more interested in looking out the window at who was driving through their parking lot then focusing on what she was doing. The tips of my nails were crooked and multiple nails had significant chips in less than 24 hours. FYI spa at the IP is incredible at waxing. read more

I've gotten my hair flat ironed many times over. I've had it blown out a few times and I know what it looks like if someone takes the time to properly blow it out. I've never looked so stupid in my entire life. My hair is still frizzy and feels bone dry. I asked several times over the phone do they have someone good with natural hair and over and over they told me yes. They said she's a rock star with natural hair. They could never have been so wrong. She clearly has never done a blow out for an African American woman. She didn't know the hair types were vastly different. She was sweet, but my experience was sour. After all the yanking and half hearted styling she didn't ask whether or not I was satisfied. I clearly wasn't but for the sake of customer service, it should've been a question. My hair is chin length and not very difficult to deal with if you know what you're doing. She charged me $40 for what should've cost nothing. It was amateur and not worth the time or money. I was beyond dissatisfied. I will never go back for any services offered. Between the lies and the bad service there's no room for redemption. I will make it my mission to let people know that this is NOT the place for them if they have natural black hair or want decent customer service. read more

I've been using Holly to do my hair for over 15 years, so I definitely know how excellent she is! I started out seeing her by myself. Over the years, she's given both of my daughters their first haircuts. My daughters have never used anyone else since! She also began cutting my husband's hair. He's the pickiest... he has a 4mm particular cut he wants every three weeks. She nails that cut perfectly every time! Holly has also done a very specific color job on my hair. I had semi-permanent pink, purple, blue, and yellow put in the ends of my hair. I just cut the pink and blue out today- a year later!!! One more thing about Holly is how fast she is! I've never run over time (not even once) because of her! I've also had a mani/pedi here (it was so so), massages (all excellent except one), and a facial (wonderful). read more

Since I am seeking a new hairdresser, I thought I would try NouVeau. I wanted a cut and a permanent wave. The salon looks great, the overall atmosphere was great but what I wanted, although not that intricate was simply beyond the stylist assigned to me. She was not experienced with permanents at ALL, and it showed. Perhaps my main complaint, however, is having called the studio beforehand to make sure that I could have a hot wave, as my hair pretty much ignores cold waves. I was told yes, no problem. On the actual day, I was told "Oh we don't DO hot waves" and a cold wave was put on anyways. As you can imagine, it was 99% out a week and a half later, and I paid over $100 for this "permanent." Not very permanent....! NouVeau is probably a great place if you want a cut, color and a blowout; if you are seeking more intensive services, this is not the place for you. Trust me. read more
