Autumn has done about three sessions of highlights on me. The first thing I was asked was, what is my ultimate goal. Tara and her took what I wanted to achieve and have not disappointed me. I have v dark thick hair, I wanted to highlight until I could safely get all over lighter hair. My hair has maintained health throughout this entire process. Salon is dirty. Owner is inept. This is the result of a "blowout" that I requested for a simple shampoo + style was over 2 hours what typically lasts 45 minutes Max. She sent me out with a style that was FRIZZY and gross looking. These photos were taken hours after, I'm not sure why the owner is trying to publicly cover this up by saying it was "days". The stylist had no idea what she was doing. I tried to resolve this with her immediately. She offered a comp with a stylist I worked with at a former salon 45 min away. I couldnt make it work so apparently that means that I "cancelled twice". It took days to even get the initial terrible, unempathetic response that I did. I was yelled at and hung up on. This weekend, I visited TMAC's Hair Studio on Old Government Street in Midtown. I enjoyed my time there and got a haircut, color and deep condition treatment. My stylist was Bailey and she walked me through every step of the haircut and color to ensure that I was happy with what she was doing. We picked out my color together. Bailey educated me about the salon's OWay line of products which are imported from Italy. They smell great - even the coloring products! At the end of the service, my color was perfect, the cut was awesome - and my hair was softer than it has ever been. The owner was not there when I was there - but the stylists had wonderful things to say about her!! Bailey - as well as all of the other stylists - were SUPER friendly. There was NO gossiping at this salon which was a breath of fresh hair. I mean....AIR. I highly recommend this salon - they also have very convenient hours of operation for those of us that work full time! read more

Wow!! I'm new to the area and took a chance on this salon, that advertises a higher than normal price for a men's cut, worth every penny! Tara made it a point to cut my hair herself and made me feel very welcome for my first time. It is very difficult to find someone who can cut it right the very first time and she did! It's perfect. Angela did such an amazing job on my Mardi Gras updo!!! I showed her a picture and she perfected it to a T. In addition, she added green feathers in the back for some added pizzazz. To start with the leader Tara is an amazingly talented stylist so much so that I walk in and tell her to do what she wants to do with my hair and I am ALWAYS happy and get lots of compliments on my hair. Tara knows hair and she spends a lot of her time and energy mentoring the stylist in her employ,something I admire and enjoy watching. In addition to the shear talent for hair and makeup she is a genuinely good person with a kind heart. My first visit to TMAC was yesterday (06/06/2015) and was the best cosmetology experience I have had in Mobile. Since moving here just over two years ago to attend USA, I've struggled to find somewhere I feel comfortable, welcome and most importantly confident in the technician's skills. My search is over! First, it was such last minute, I called the shop Saturday afternoon and a PLEASANT voice answered. I was surprised because I've found Mobile citizens have a little too much attitude and seem to resent customers. Not at this professional establishment! I asked if there was anyway to get in for a haircut that day, expecting a flat "No" but to my surprise, she said she would squeeze me in at the end of her last client. She gave me a time and I was there. It turns out the pleasant voice from the phone earlier was Kat, who was also the only stylist working that afternoon! Not only was she busy multitasking (cutting/styling hair & answering the phones, etc.) but so helpful and pleasant while doing so! Waited a few minutes and then I was in the chair. Kat preceded to interview me about what type of look I was trying to achieve, and as a guy, I've never had anyone working on my hair act as if they truly cared about what I wanted. It's usually like a race to see how fast they can fill the chair behind me. Kat took her time and even asked for feedback while working. At the end, she educated me on how to get the look I want and even told me which side to part it to so it would look better. It was like an education! Disappointed to say the least. My stylist was late for my appointment - overslept apparently. She took 45 minutes to wash & dry my hair before starting the "up-do" - even though I didn't want a full up-do. I asked for a braid that pulled back into girls, and I ended up with two braids (one on each side, even though I only wanted one side braided) and into a low bun, not into curls hanging on my shoulder. Thank goodness I had enough time before the wedding to take my hair out and redo it myself. So I basically paid $108 for a braid. read more

Jacob did a fantastic job blending my root color with the rest of my hair and making me look like a natural blonde. As a newcomer to Mobile, I was nervous about finding a new stylist since I'd been going to the same place for years. After reading all the great Yelp and Google reviews for this place, I decided to check it out. They were able to schedule me an appointment for the day I called, and when I showed up a bit early, they got me right in. Kat was excellent. She listened to what I wanted, made suggestions, explained everything clearly, and helped me find a cut that would best flatter my face shape and work with my low-maintenance style. One of my girlfriends got her hair done here & it looked great so I tried it. The first time Tori was overbooked & she rushed through my haircut & instead of a bob I got some jagged edge mishap. She said I could comeback sometime & she'd fix it. She did apologize a lot, she seemed very frazzled at the time so I thought I would try again. I'd seen & heard such great things. The next appointment I set for a color & haircut, they booked me with the wrong girl and I'm telling you I was definitely specific when I set the appointment. I took off from work for this appointment. I was so disappointed. I expected such great things from this place and ended up with THE WORST SERVICE EVER TWICE! I am now telling all my friends & co-workers & clubs with which I am affiliated, I advise if you want half way decent service, don't go there. So unprofessional. Waste of time. read more

WARNING!!!!! I googled best hair salons in Mobile and Angela popped up. I told her that my hair was overprocessed blond and needed a lot of attention. She said that she was GREAT at what she does and to trust her. Unfortunately I went in to her chair overprocessed blond and left fried brunette. I recently drove to Destin (2 1/2 hours) and the senior colorist there made me sign a waiver that she would not be responsible for liability because my hair was so fried. Angela made two horrible mistakes that have ruined my hair: Redken all over color on already overprocessed hair (redken is harsh i found out...Angela put some FREE gloss on it while i was there but when that wore off two weeks later I realized how bad it was). The colorist said that if my hair would have been really thin it would have all fell out when she rinsed it. Second, she used some sort of thinning shears that made my hair frizz. When i took my hat off at Avantegarde people kept staring at me with that pity look (everyone in there had really shiny healthy looking hair). The colorist said that it looked like she just took the shears and started to chop around without looking. She cut off two inches but really 5 or more was damaged from the shears. The stylist said that if I would come back 3 or 4 times she promised that I wouldnt want to cry when I look in the mirror. I actually left the salon with manageable shiny hair. I've been a resident of Mobile on and off since 2007. I've been in search of a salon that I was happy enough with to be a return customer since then. Based on the internet reviews I found for TMAC, I figured I'd give it a shot. Boy am I glad I did!!! Tara did an amazing job at giving me exactly what I was looking for while being friendly and personable! She even took time after the appointment to show me some tricks with the flat iron. Very bad experience. I had highlights done and my hair broke off at the roots. Clumps of hair fell out. I actually cried when this happened. The girl looked scared to death and told me I have bad hair and that I should cut my hair shorter so people wouldn't notice it as much. I get married in six months and I'm devastated. Not only will I not be going back but I feel the need to warn others, so beware! read more

Awful!!!! I went here for the first time & I had a blonde to do my hair I think she was the owner & while she was doing my hair she had to keep stopping to take care of her newborn baby who was screaming the whole time! Then halfway through my hair she stopped completely to breast feed! Which is fine if your breastfeeding but don't book appointments when you know you are going to have to stop your client who is paying for your full attention & time on top of that don't have your screaming baby there SO UNPROFESSIONAL you know people come to relax not to hear that BULL!!! She did have another stylist there right next to her & you can tell by the look on her face that this is a common thing & the fact that she said "I'll get her when I get a sec". Well not only did I have to deal with hearing a screaming baby, & breastfeeding but, on top of that the salon smelled awful & was filthy especially the restroom & the overall cleanliness of the salon, if I would've seen any of these things before I booked the appointment I would have gone somewhere else. All in All SO UNPROFESSIONAL & SO NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY OR TIME!!! read more
