It had been years since I had cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes and I forgot how good it tasted. I got my wife a birthday cake from this Nothing Bundt Cakes location in Durham and it was phenomenal. Undoubtedly, five stars. Can bundt cakes get any better than this? I'm not sure they can. I ordered online and picked up in-store same day, a Tuesday. I placed my order around 1pm for a 6pm pickup. The entire process went smoothly. When I arrived to the store, I just gave them my name and they got my cake, all wrapped up and ready to go, out from the back. It had a wow factor to it. More on that below. First, the website. It was very easy to navigate, find, and order what I wanted. To me, it was similar to ordering flowers. When there are so many options, I appreciate it when a website makes it easy to narrow down your choices. I clicked on Nothing Bundt Cakes' Birthday Cakes and saw they had 20 options. I picked the design I liked the best based on the helpful pictures. It turned out to the "Delicious Wishes" cake. The Delicious Wishes cake came with a lot of decorations on top: a bright orange bow, a small gift box with gold ribbon, a candle, and three signs. Two of the signs said "Happy Birthday" and one said "Delicious Wishes." All atop a Nothing Bundt Cakes branded cardboard base. As far as the packaging and presentation went, everything was wrapped in tall, clear, plastic wrap that was tied at the top with a bow and included a simple birthday card (could be customized online or you could handwrite something yourself), a card with the cake flavor name, cake instructions, and a little story about the history of Nothing Bundt Cakes, and a foldout photo pamphlet with info about other cake flavors and offerings. I went with the Confetti flavor which is one of the company's nine classic flavors. The cake had rainbow colors on the inside. On the outside, I got Nothing Bundt Cake's signature "frosting petals." The frosting petals are thick "tubes" of cream cheese and butter frosting that run down the outside of the cake in a sort of "burst" or "overflowing" fashion. There's also a bunch of frosting in the center. Mmm... I love frosting and I know it's good when I can keep eating it and not get sick of it. Nothing Bundt Cakes' frosting is high-quality and delicious. By default, their cakes come with a lot of frosting, relatively speaking. I thought it was funny that the website gave me the option for extra frosting ($2.50) when the default amount already seems extra. The cake I got was 8 inches (serves 8) and cost $24.00. The "Delicious Wishes" birthday decorations were an additional $8.00. After tax, the total cost was $32.64. Nothing Bundt Cakes also offers bundt cakes in 10-inch ($34.00+, serves 18) and tiered (8-inch over a 10-inch, serves 26, $70.00) sizes, plus smaller, individual-sized "Bundlets" ($4.50 each) and Bundtinis (12 for $22). The latter two options look like cupcakes. As for the cake instructions mentioned above, Nothing Bundt Cakes says their cakes are best served at room temperature and should be kept refrigerated until a couple of hours before serving. When I ordered on the website, there was a serving time section where I had to specify if my cake was being served within three hours of my pickup time. The reason why is because if the cake was going to be served more than three hours after my pickup time, the store would keep it chilled. The serving temperature is an important detail because it makes a big difference in both the texture of the cake and the frosting. It's much more enjoyable at room temperature and not cold. So, if eating leftovers/chilled cake, you do have to plan out a bit and let the cake sit out for a couple hours. The cake I purchased had perfect taste and texture. I was really impressed. Nothing Bundt Cakes' Confetti flavor is birthday cake baked with rainbow sprinkles. I like how the sprinkles weren't overdone. It was just the right amount. Overall, I thought the Confetti cake upgraded with the Delicious Wishes decorations was really fun and ideal for my wife's birthday. She loved it and felt special and that's what mattered most. Service by the two young ladies at this location was excellent. Currently, there are three Nothing Bundt Cakes locations in the Triangle. There's this one in Durham, near the Chapel Hill border, as well as locations in Morrisville and North Raleigh. A cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes is great for birthdays and other special occasions. In addition to cakes, this store sells greeting cards and other gift items. The store is nicely decorated, like a cute little boutique shop. It's located in the Hope Valley Commons shopping center on 54 at Hope Valley Road. It opened in 2017. read more

I've been eating these cakes without realizing it for years- some of my friends were aware of this gem before I was and would bring them to gatherings pretty regularly. I always found them delicious- not too fluffy, perfectly moist, awesome flavor selection, but it never occurred to me to visit until recently for my husband's birthday cake. My friends told me that you can go in and purchase cakes, but if you want to make sure you get the flavor of your choosing to order online in advance. The website was straightforward and easy to use, and I could even pay in advance! We ordered a chocolate chocolate chip cake in the size that feeds 8-10 people (so not the mini, but the next smallest size). I found the array of sizes to be very nice- the minis are just $3.99 and they go all the way up to cakes with many tiers. When the actual birthday came, I stopped into the shop at my specified time. The place was hopping, even though it was early in the morning! This place clearly has a great reputation and a devoted fan base. I saw people picking up pre-ordered tiered cakes, a bunch of minis in assorted flavors, and a couple from out of town stocking up on a huge assortment of everything! I got mine without issue and headed home. When we ate it later in the day we all agreed it was delicious and adorable. I have since joined their e-club so I can get a free mini on my birthday! We came by for their grand opening on Saturday. The first fifty people in line would receive a card for one free bundlette each month for a year. So many people showed up, some arriving two plus hours before the doors opened. It was so cold they decided to give the card to the first one hundred people! Now that's generous. Turns out you can't begin to use the card until January 2018, but that's ok!! We really look forward to such a treat each month! Here's a deep, dark, secret confession: I don't like cakes (!!) Or at least, I have never really liked cakes all that much...the vast majority of them are dry, they have that overly sweet, crystallized icing that makes the inside of your mouth feel weird, and the leftovers always seem to sit in the fridge for years until you decide to throw them out (and then you're responsible for cleaning the hardened cake-gunk off the knife that you left in the cake box for cutting it...what a disaster). This is to say, that if I am giving a cake shop a 5 star review, you have to know that it is over-the-moon exceptional! I have never, in my entire life, had any kind of cake that was so moist, so flavorful, so delicious, that it made me actively want to go back out and get it again. When my husband brought me one of the red velvet cake bundtinis home, I went from skeptical to "holy crap where do I get more of this?" in two seconds flat. I stalked their website to see when their hours were; I kept the shop in my bookmarks folder until the day came that I could visit it myself! My only wish is that I could get the little bundtinis in smaller quantities, since you have to buy them in sets of 12 (for ~$20, if you factor in tax). So when I go now, I get the slightly larger bundtlet size, which is enough for me to split with my husband, or leave myself feeling super stuffed and regretful if I eat it myself. I also love to get variety, and since one bundtlet is already too large for one (imo), I have to limit myself to one flavor at a time =( My favorites? The original red velvet that changed my worldview on cakes forever, the pecan praline, and the white chocolate raspberry swirl. Do yourself a favor and get over there ASAP! *Bonus points in my book, while this is not a local chain per se (they're based originally out of Las Vegas), the two store locations here (Hope Valley and Morrisville) are franchised and thus, locally owned. This is gonna be one of the best new little dessert shops in Durham! I was in line on opening day for free bundt cakes for a year! The first 50 people in line were going to get that deal, but the owners were exceptionally kind and generous and extended that to the first 100 (it was cold outside by the way - in the 29-35 range)! They also had multiple different samples (and have at least 1 flavor sample at any point in time if you stop in) on opening day. Anyway, I'm from Texas and loved Nothing Bundt Cakes since then. I was thrilled that this location opened up since the Cary location is quite far from me. The bundtinis (small cupcake size) were excellent - I had the red velvet and confetti. The cakes are soft and the icing is amazing. I can't wait to have my free monthly bundlets (mini cake size) from them! The Bundt cakes are okay. The same as the other Nothing Bundt Cakes -- but this store has very rude service and does not handle problems well. As a gluten-free person for years - Nothing Bundt Cakes was one of the only places I could frequent and feel confident that I would get a quality dessert - that was gluten free. So last year during the holidays My daughter and I ordered 2 gf bundtlettes with extra cream cheese icing (because the icing - OMG- Delicious!) - we were so excited! When we got home we were quickly shocked... our gluten-free chocolate chip bundtlettes were minty. Well - I didn't eat anymore - because I did not know if the cake was wrong - or the icing - but - something was and I was afraid I might have been given a glutinous cake by mistake (besides - I personally find mint flavored sweets disgusting!). We called the store but they had already closed for the evening -so we left a message. We hadn't heard anything back for a few days so we went by to talk to a manager - (and get some more cakes since we didn't eat the ones we got before) --- and the manager (possibly owner) was terribly rude. Acted as though there was no way we could've received anything with mint. Well I know mint when I taste it - and it was mint . Then this person - acted as though we were lying - and it never happened. I did bring up the fact that I had called - and that no one had bothered to call me back. Eventually they RELUCTANTLY rectified the situation by giving us a credit for two bundtlettes -- but never lost their nasty disbelieving attitude towards us, and ultimately the way they handled it was terrible. We used to eat there once a week and ever since that experience we never went back. Hopefully they have new owners/managers... or just try a different Nothing Bundt Cakes if you are in the mood. The employees provided wonderful service as they make suggestions and ask questions to ensure you're getting exactly what you want. This store is located in an easily accessible shopping center with ample parking. They offer a variety of bundt cakes in different flavors, sizes and arrangements. Each moth they have a flavor of the month and they also have samples in the store for you to try. The prices are very very reasonable for what you get. Out of all the bundt cakes I've had my favorites are White Chocolate Raspberry and Lemon. If you're looking for a delicious sweet test I highly suggest this place. So I had NBC cakes a few months ago in clinic, and I gotta say: I wasn't impressed. I thought they tasted very 'store-bought-ish' and the frosting was waaaay too creamcheesey for me. However, the other evening we had some friends over who brought a varietal selection of NBC mini-cakes. I am converted. I must've gotten a bad batch before because it was night and day: the red velvet had just the right amount of tang from vinegar, the frosting was thicker than whipped buttercream but not so overpoweringly cream cheese that my eyes watered.
