Long story short, the Love Cake legit had me falling in love. Long story a little longer, I had been following Favor Desserts for quite some time, but didn't actually get a chance to try them until an event I attended. I loved it so much that when I was close, I made sure to reroute myself to purchase several slices. The pineapple cake tasted like summer. The Italian Cream cake tasted like a hug. My daughter said the chocolate cake was the best she has ever had. And how I started my review is how I will end it...the Love Cake legit had me falling in love. I turn 50 next year and I already know who I'm going to for my cake! read more

I ordered my boyfriend a cake for his birthday and he recommended this bakery considering I don't know good bakeries in NC. I called about 2 or so weeks in advance to order the cake said what I wanted I even asked if they did designs and the young lady on the phone said no, even though the website state you can place a custom cake order. I order Red Velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. I didn't want their standard 10" cake so I went with a 8" cake instead. The lady over the phone said I needed to pay for the entire cake upfront with bakeries I've ever ordered from only required a deposit or 50% of the cake price. I paid and was told I just needed to pick up the cake before they close the day the cake is ready. Cool beans! Fast forward I pick up the cake issue number 1 the writing on the cake is so sloppy it looked like a 5 year old could do better. It didn't fully say what I wanted it to say and when I asked if the writing could be redone the lady said there is no baker available. Okay? I picked my cake up at 3:30pm and there is no baker? I take my cake and leave it's nothing I can do about the cake situation at this point and leave. Once again I didn't pick this bakery my BF he said he knows the owner and explained the story about the owner turning a bad life situation into a good one. I believe the owners story is on the website as well. My boyfriend takes the cake out the fridge about an hour or so before cutting into it. I didn't want to complain about the cake but I'm sure my facial expressions said it all. He cuts the cake and and I eat it the middle of the cake is extremely moist and delicious but the closer you each to the edge of the cake it was overcooked dry asf... and burnt. The frosting within an inch of the frosting of the cake was dry and hard. Either the cake was still hot when the frosting was added or they left the cake out and the frosting got dry and hard. The cake was off putting and out right not good with all the textures of the cake going on. The frosting wasn't too sweet but the texture was just wrong. I called the very next day and was told to all the following day apparently, the didn't a a manager or supervisor that day once again I thought that was odd. I call again and finally have some luck. I speak with the owner who is friendly. He offers to remake the cake but it was for a birthday and we were kind of over it. He then ask what can he do? I asked him what can he do? Then I just say to be fair they used the ingredients to make the cake I would just like half my money back I paid for the cake. He agreed and he hoped the I would give them another try, why n I am not opposed to. The shop itself is super clean it's beautiful inside there is if I recalled a couple of tables and chairs to eat your desserts. The painting on the wall is cute. The is very spacious as well. I'm hoping the person who made my cake a bad baking day and I hope the cakes are not as bad I the one I received. I will just then another chance maybe not to bake my cake in the future, but try the other desserts in the dessert case. read more

Cake is on point. Its just the prices change. In store I bought slice of red velvet and a slice of banana and it came out to be 19.35. Online grub hub order take-out same two slices (red velvet and banana) $7.00 each came out to be with tax 15.05. Same on Seamless online order site. Why was mine purchase in store so much more that day is my question. Will be returning because cake and cupcakes are great but will have to question pricing. Maybe it was a mistake? read more

Durhams best cakes hands down. Argue with your momma. Great atmosphere, incredible service, scratch made, simply the best. The parking can be a challenge at times, so go ahead and prepare. Outside of that, this place is flawless in every way. read more

I wish I had pics, but the red velvet cake is my absolute favorite. I tried this bakery a few years back and was unimpressed. A friend had a party recently and I could not get enough of the red velvet cake which was from here. I also tried Favor's cakes at Soul Forking Good a few weeks after and immediately recognized the taste prompting a recent visit to the Favor storefront for more. This time, I tried the strawberry crunch, which was decadent and moist, but I taste the butter which throws it off for me a bit, and my all time favorite....red velvet. The staff were nice and the store was clean. read more

Omgosh these cupcakes were amazing! I am usually a person who loves icing and then thinks the cake is just meh...but I loved every part of these. I bought 6 of them for my husband birthday - so it was fun to try a variety. I don't even know if I could pick a favorite because they were all so good. I expected to walk in and just see a bakery counter but they do also have some seating inside. I'll be back to fulfill my cravings for these cupcakes and I'll be telling my friends to check out this spot. read more

I've been wanting to try these desserts for a while now and finally got a chance to. The wait was well worth it as they were scrumptious and did not disappoint at all. This is by far the most moist cake I've ever had. It's an added bonus that the staff were all friendly with smiles on their faces. They officially have a new customer. If you haven't tried, add this to your "must do" list!!! read more

Listen, I am a cake nut! I relocated here and immediately began researching bakeries. Flavor is by far the best bakery in the Triangle. The cakes are always fresh and the service is friendly. I'd like to be able to give Favor Desserts a positive review for the custom carrot cake I ordered for a special birthday in July. Unfortunately, the cake was never delivered. That was the first problem. The bigger problem has been ongoing since July 15th which is when I called to ask for a refund ($123) for the cake that was not delivered. I spoke with the bakery manager towards the end of July and she assured me that my refund would be issued that day. It is now August 7 and I have still not gotten a refund. I have left messages for the manager several times with no response. I am really fed up now and have taken the complaint up with my credit card company to try to get my money back. Generally, I'm a really big supporter of small local businesses so I am sorry that I feel compelled to write this complaint. But this behavior is unacceptable. Please think twice before you make a special order with Favor Desserts. read more

Used to be a good value byt now gery overpriced. Over $10 per slice and it's 40% cake 60% frosting.

We really like the owner's story: from convict to baker to successful business owner. He recently purchased a building on S. Alston Avenue in Durham (the old Halgo deli) and relocated there. We stopped by and got some cupcakes to go after visiting the library across the street. We got strawberry, vanilla, carrot cake chocolate cupcakes. To be honest, the cupcakes and icing are a little too sweet for our tastes, but I know they have fans. At the counter, there was no sign indicating what the cupcakes and cake slices were, so the staff person had to list them for us. There are tables inside but we did not notice any coffee or other options. PS, we love the cupcake "selfie spot" mural from Darius Quarles, one of our favorite artists. read more

Extremely underwhelming. My mom order one dozen carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, one dozen yellow cake with buttercream frosting, and one dozen assorted (cakes and frostings should have been assorted). We review one dozen of just chocolate cake with white frosting as our "assortment." Additionally, the cake and frosting sizes are all different. So far I've only tried the carrot cake and in my opinion the cream cheese frosting is way too sweet. read more

I really wanted to give them more than 3 stars. I came here after seeing such good ratings. Maybe I came on an off day. We came on a Saturday a little before 2pm. The lady working seemed really irritated with us for coming in. When we asked questions, she gave us the shortest answer possible. It made me feel bad to even ask anything, as if I was a bother. We ended up getting a slice of carrot cake & red velvet cake. They were ok. To pay $12 for 2 slices of cake, I think the packaging could've been better.. I wouldn't buy a slice of cake to take to anyone because of the packing. The cake slices are too big for the small container. I love a big slice of cake but these are squished into the container. The cakes were ok. We tried eating them right away & maybe they weren't too good because they were cold as my friend said they were better when she got home & they were more room temp. Anyways, I will come back to try the cupcakes and hopefully the staff is having a better day. read more

I absolutely love Favor Desserts!! They are my go to spot for sweet treats. The owner is always there & very hands on. The staff is friendly & welcoming. I come here often & everything I've tasted has been delicious! I mostly get cupcakes - red velvet, carrot cake, chocolate, Oreo, strawberry, vanilla! Not sure how they were operating during this social distancing, COVID-19 times so I called. The lady who answered let me know they were open! She was willing to take my order over the phone or said I could come in person. I went into the bakery & there were floor markings for safe distancing. The owner only allowed a limited amount of people in at a time. As always, everything was fresh & tasty. Oh, and there are Wednesday specials on cupcakes!! read more

Outstanding cakes. The banana pudding cake is absolutely delicious. The whole cakes are a little on the pricey side, but well worth it.

At my place of employment, we are celebrating BHM by patronizing EVERY FRIDAY this month a black owned restaurant. This past Friday the 12th we were visited by Favor Desserts. Let me sum up my experience by simply saying, "Favor got the Flavor". I had what I believe was a banana nut bread cupcake with creme cheese Icing, Mmm, mmm, good. Not only does this place make great desserts, it also has a great story. Hey Mr. Hester, you can use my slogan, I'll only charge a small fee Great job I will be back read more

Paid for an order and delivery on a set date . Order was an 1.5 late. I had to contact them several times. They never contacted me to say the it was a delay. Desserts are out of this world. Service is amazing. The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxing.

Red velvet cake and I have been having a love affair for quite some time and Favor Desserts gets it right everysingletime. It's delicious, moist and the cream cheese frosting is the perfect balance of sweetness. Have to highlight that because let's be honest, there is no red velvet without the cream cheese frosting. I have to stay away from this place because it's just that good but do yourself a favor and don't (stay away). Come as often as you dare, you won't be disappointed. Plus they have a special on their cupcakes every Wednesday and they're bomb. Grab a friend and try a couple new favors, sharing is caring. You're welcome! read more

Wow. After craving cupcakes all day I decided to stop by after work to satisfy my pregnant sweet tooth. I got 4 cupcakes(carrot, red velvet, chocolate on chocolate & chocolate & cream cheese) and a slice of the best cake that I have ever tasted. I think GoodyBox has ruined me. I'd cast a lustful eye toward Favor Desserts for over a year, the Bookmark serving as a seductive reminder that I needed to make a visit with these 5-star cupcakes happen. Finally found myself on that side of town, and stopped in to taste the wares. What I Like It's actually a pretty spacious set-up, and has tables making it more of a dessert destination. Cakes are labeled and prominently displayed in the case, and you have your choice of slice or cupcake. I even caught a glimpse of the industrial-sized mixer, being monitored by the owner in back, whipping a deep red velvet batter about. What I'm Lukewarm I tried to be chatty with the cashier, but she was all business. And the cakes, sadly, were a let-down. These are not fanciful, highfalutin cakes with fillings, toppings, or cake pop sticks... they are standard favorites, so I expect them to be true and tasty. I had Red Velvet, German Chocolate Cake, and Carrot Cake. I actually thought the cupcakes were on the dry side, and tasted no better than a box mix. The cake slices, on the other hand, are moist, and their flavors, truer... though the frosting was thin and nearly runny. Of the bunch, carrot cake was the best. I wanted to love it as much as everyone else. But I just didn't. read more

Located conveniently off of NC 55 and its an amazing bakery. The cake is moist and always fresh tasting. My favorite items here are the five flavor pound cake and the chocolate cupcake with butter-cream frosting. I'm not big on pound cake but this cake is awesome and is easily topping the list of the best cake I've ever eaten. I highly recommend checking this place out. The owner and lead baker's story of redemption is amazing and I'm happy to support this business! So much so that I actually purchased a whole cake and took it home for Thanksgiving so my family could try it. Some people would think the prices are expensive but I've learned that $3 a cupcake is just the price of cupcakes at a bakery. The cake slices are $5 but the slices are huge. In general I wouldn't say its pricey because its what I would expect to pay at a bakery. Well worth the money! read more

I love to support Black-owned businesses. Favors Desserts is one of my all-time favorites. I usually order cupcakes or a slice of the three-layer cake. The carrot cake cupcake is AMAZING! There's chunks of walnuts and the cream cheese icing is so creamy. When it comes to three-layer sliced cakes, Italian cream is my go-to. I'd love to see this place succeed and so decided to offer some helpful suggestions. They are at a convenient location - so close to Greenwood Common Shopping Center and RTP folks. With a few tweaks I think they can earn a following and I wish them the best of fortune. We decided against the nice, large cake serving (it looked delicious) and went with the smaller post lunch option of a chocolate cupcake. It was okay but they will have to compete with places with Gigi's Cupcakes. I know they can do it but it will require upping their offering a bit. The signage advertises the establishment also as a coffee shop. That puts their competition against specialty coffee shops. Their offering was Keurig Coffee (they asked us to pick the flavor) and then when milk or cream was requested, they brought out a gallon of milk for use. These two points are again easily addressed: we suggest they try to partner with a local coffee group such as Muddy Dog or Counter Culture as a bigger draw to their desserts, and have a more professional delivery of coffee accoutrements. Again I wish them the best of luck and success. Keep at it! read more

Easily the best cakes in the Triangle (and now most likely Greensboro). My wife and I have tried almost every kind by this point and even though they are six bucks per slice, they are totally worth it. Other than just recommending everyone to try anything there, personally the Oreo cake and strawberry cake are my favorites. read more

I've recently been obsessed with their cupcakes..so this place has grown to be dangerous for my waist line. The carrot cupcake is to die for... best I've had. i also love the double chocolate and red velvet. They have a Humpday special on Wednesdays and all cupcakes are $2 (normally $3). They aren't about overdecorating the cupcakes, but really focus on the flavor and the texture, which are great. Their Italian Creme cake slices are phenomenal too (coconut and walnuts..yum). The location is a bit away from any other larger shopping centers, but is worth the trip. read more

Favor Desserts is, by far, the best place to get cakes and cupcakes. Some of my students and I were visiting a site in Durham, and I decided to take them to get dessert after our visit.
