Slice of sweet potato pound cake
Mia G.

I heard rave reviews about this place on social media, so I decided to give them a try while I was in town. The cashier was friendly and informative, especially after she found out I was visiting from out of town. They're in a quiet, easily accessible location and they have a TON of sweet treats to choose from. It was SO hard for me to decide, so I just sent with the sweet potato pound cake. It was a decent-sized slice and really tasty. BUT...coming from southern California where EVERYTHING is overpriced...literally EVERYTHING ...I felt this cake slice was way overpriced. I paid the added tax + gratuity as well. So my final total was almost $14...for ONE slice of cake. Seems like catering and event orders are their specialty. That might explain the price point? I'm not sure. The selections were visually aesthetic and the slice I had was tasty...just...not a reasonable price-point in my opinion. At this rate...a full pound cake would be well-over $150. That's madness! I made it a goal to support only Black-Owned businesses on this trip. But, the next time I'm in town, I'll be skipping Madame B's and trying some other black-owned dessert spots instead.

This woman is serving up heaven in every bite! First off, I think this woman is so extremely friendly and welcoming. She greeted me like I was a friend even though this was my first time walking into the store and was so kind while talking with me. She was patient with me whole I decided which of her amazing cupcakes I was going to take home with me. I decided on 3 cupcakes (Wednesdays are buy 2 get 1 free), 2 slices of cakes, and a house made lemonade. I ordered a banana pudding, blue velvet, and strawberry shortcake cupcake. Then the banana pudding and strawberry lemonade cake slice. There is so much love and flavor in each of these items that I can't even accurately describe to you how delicious they are. You'll just have to go and try them yourself. I promise if you stop in, you will absolutely fall in love with the food, the owner, and the atmosphere created here.

The biscoff cookies and white velvet cake were both very delicious!! The cake was super moist. We met talked to the owner and her mom. They were super helpful. This was our first time there and most definitely not our last. It is a takeout spot that has a few tables outside. You won't be disappointed

I love it here, I had a bluey custom cake and cupcakes made. When I say beyond delicious and beautiful design, I loved it. Thank you so much for your amazing service, I highly recommend trying this place out.

I finally made it here!

Madame B's piqued my interest when I saw her on the news. I made my way over on a Friday afternoon. The bakery was empty, as I was the only customer. The bakery was clean, with nice Valentin's decor. I felt a warm welcome and kindness from the person who assisted me. I came for the Red Velvet. While there, I could not resist adding the banana pudding since it was recommended. I also got the cinnamon roll cupcake. I enjoyed my red velvet cake taste as the texture was how I liked it - smooth, soft, and creamy sweet icing - I assume cream cheese. As a true southern belle, I prefer BP warm (the Southern way). I come from a cooking family (very good cooks), so I'm not easily impressed. I enjoyed the BP chilled, surprisingly but was taken aback because I could not see bananas. BP is something I've never ordered from a bakery, so I found out this was standard. My sister enjoyed the cinnamon roll cupcake as well. Overall, the service and all the desserts I tried were delicious. The desserts are very rich, so I could not finish anything in one sitting. It took about 2-3 sittings to finish the desserts in two days.

3/17/23: VERY DISAPPOINTED! I heard of this place by following Chimetime on Facebook/IG. He's a food blogger & had mostly good things to say about this place. That along with their Yelp rating had me go out of my way today to try them out today. I was so excited to try them!! The lady at the counter was very nice. They had a good flavor selection of cake slices and cupcakes. I settled on 3 cake slices in lemon pound cake, Triple Chocolate, & Banana Pudding flavors. I couldn't wait to dig in, but I held it together until I got off of work. I let my boyfriend try his banana pudding cake first. Disappointment #1!!! It was dry but had good flavor. He gave it a 3.5/5. Next, was the Triple Chocolate. OMG!! It was so dry and tasted old/stale. Disappointed yet again. Lastly, we tried the lemon pound cake. It was moist and the flavor was good. I'd give that a 4/5. To have paid $9 a piece for these cake slices, I expected MUCH better. $30 for stale/dry cake slices is unacceptable. As much as I love cake, I will probably never come here again. I would've been better off going to the store to buy the ingredients to make my own cakes. I'm sure I would've come out cheaper too. So much for satisfying my sweet tooth.

If you've got a sweet tooth, Madame B's dessert bar is for you! Upon entering, I was greeted with a huge smile and the smell of sweet treats! I didn't know where to start, so I ordered just about one of everything. I first tried the cinnamon roll cupcake which was good. The icing was a bit too sweet, but the cake was everything and more! After that I tried the banana pudding and let me tell you. It was top 2, and not number two. Lastly, I took a bite of this humongous biscoff cookie and that was more of my speed. I would recommend trying Madame B's. Overall I give the 4 out of 5 stars! Desserts I've tried : 1. Banana Pudding 2. Strawberry Banana Pudding 3. Assorted Cupcakes 4. Biscoff cookie 5. Lemonade

Ok let me tell you I'm not big on sweets but Madame B's will have you cheating on your diet (LOL). At this point we go almost every week for a sweet treat. Usually we go on Wednesdays for the cupcake special and a red velvet cheesecake. The red velvet cheesecake is not pictured because it's a local favorite, if you don't get there early it's a good chance they will be sold out. Service is always great the staff give you an at home vibe. And they always replace my cupcake counter and let me bring multiple in to redeem my free cupcake. If you're local or just in town to visit stop by Madame B's Bakery and thank me later!

The atmosphere is calm and welcoming, and the staff was pleasant from the moment we walked in. Even during breakfast hours, there wasn't a long wait. The shop itself is beautiful. There's an antique cash register near the counter that adds so much character, and I love that the menus are handwritten. Their merchandise is really cute, and they also make gourmet marshmallows. Everything in the case looks and tastes gourmet and made from scratch. They even offer wedding cakes. My total for breakfast for myself and coworker came to $18, which I found very reasonable. The iced Americano was strong in the best way. You can actually taste the espresso, and it didn't taste watered down or cheap at all. The only downside is that they don't serve whipped cream for iced coffee. The almond croissant was perfect. Sweet and buttery on the inside, crunchy on the outside with that lightly crisp, sugary layer that gives i texture. It was balanced and done just right. Overall, a solid breakfast spot with quality pastries and great pricing. I'd definitely stop in again.

Many were the days that I lamented the lack of a proper dessertery when I worked in downtown…read moreRaleigh. So I filled my needs at Square Rabbit or went without. Little did I know Cupcake Stop Shop had quietly opened, tucked away in an indoor area of multi-vendors in Moore Square. I noticed they were listed as a vendor at the upcoming Yelper party, and finding myself in the area for First Friday, I eagerly pounced on a preview. It's a tiny and unassuming shop -- in many ways it feels like it's still growing into its decor and intended atmosphere. But the cheery tower cupcake display on the right and the filled cases at the cashier counter both pulled me in. I ended up with a half-dozen flavors (spurred on by the huge variety, as well as a Yelp deal!) and a couple of cake truffles (think: mini cake balls). The owner is incredibly nice and personable, and I have to credit her with having both the creativity and dedication to churn out so many different varieties... a definite strength of this shop. But I feel I'm becoming a bit of a cupcake snob -- as you may gather from my lengthy, growing list of cupcake reviews -- and there were a few things that fell short for me with these... size-wise, they are more petite than most, but I think that the reasonable price reflects this. The main fault with the cupcakes is in the sweetness. I know some will call me crazy: It's a cupcake -- of course it's sweet! But I think mastering the cupcake (and flavors like Chocolate Covered Strawberry) is all about mastering the balance of the flavors of the cake, the filling, the icing, and the chocolate drizzle. Instead of getting a harmonious blend of tangy strawberry, creamy whipped topping, sweet yet summery cake, chocolate bitters, I just felt like I got a lot of sugar. And this was true of most of the flavors. Of the bunch, my favorite was definitely the Snickerdoodle (in which the cinnamon really offset the cake nicely), followed by the Banana Puddin (a close taste resemblance of the traditional). I did think the cake truffles were winners -- fudgy, rich chocolate on the inside, and a light white chocolate candy coating on the outside... but they are quite small. Turn 'em in to fuller-sized cake balls, and they'd be irresistible to this sweet tooth!
