We rented a car trailer from U-haul Syracuse. i needed it that night to go to Pa. with our Jeep. The trailer was in rough shape, the jack to lift the trailer was broken off. The attendant stated "do you really want this thing?" I brought my own to lift the hitch on and off the ball. While traveling down I-81 the straps to to hold my car to the trailer flew off. leaving my car free to disembark the trailer at will. This happened twice. We went to an auto parts store for for own straps to complete out journey. The ratchet straps were thread bare on the ends so with constant trailer movement the straps would not hold. This trailer should never have left U-haul. even at my insistence. If my car flew off the trailer and killed people, an investigation would have shown negligence on the part of U-haul. Ordered a 2 man 2-hour job through movinghelper.com (I was recommended by a colleague and read the reviews) and was highly disappointed in Not My Garage's professionalism, specifically Brian@notmygarage. I expected a quality company but instead, I was yelled at for asking a question about policy for them running an hour and a half late; after telling me how they had "27 moves today" and that I "wouldn't have hired them if they didn't have a 5-star rating". Brian then told me he doesn't feel comfortable sending his movers because he doesn't want a bad review. When I tried to clarify what was happening he yelled at me, told me to cancel the service because he was not sending anyone, then hung up in my face! I called back twice to resolve whatever miscommunication there may have been, got yelled at some more, called a "problem" and then hung up on. He cancelled this moving service 30 minutes prior to their move time (5 pm cancelled was supposed to arrive at 5:30 pm). I am a first time user of moving companies and have never been treated so disrespectfully and unprofessional! I will never use this company nor recommend it to anyone. 10 min into the job they walk out! I thought my husband was joking when he said they quit! The head older guy was in a bad mood when he arrived and ended up practically YELLING at my 76 year old father, after my Dad was trying to make a suggestion on how to make moving the fridge upstairs from basement easier. He asked if my Dad was the professional. The guy was so volatile and completely flipped his lid! The whole experience left us flabbergasted as my Dad wasn't rude to him at all and the guy took it way out of whack and seemed unstable. Extremely unprofessional. The 2nd mover I can't comment on as he just followed what the other guy told him to do and didn't make the decisions. They left us high and dry with no moving help after we rented out a U-haul truck today. They deserve 0 stars. The u-haul moving help website (movinghelp.com) won't let me leave an unfavorable review because I had to cancel the job (so they wouldn't receive payment) and the job wasn't completed. Can't tell when they wrote their reply as I don't see a date. Matthew B. you must be confused with another job. All that we needed moving was a refrigerator and, if time permitted, a twin bed. The fridge was the priority. We needed it moved from my parents' basement to my garage a mile away. That was communicated to your company via phone. I called and made sure prior to the day that they would have the proper equipment and people to move the fridge from the basement. This was the only reason we were hiring a company since we couldn't move it ourselves. I didn't want them to be 'surprised' that day so definitely made our need noted. Now the replier calling my father's house a hoarder's house is ABSOLUTELY UNTRUE. To be stereotypical, my parents are Asian and keep a clean, clutter-free house. That goes for their entire house, including their basement which is organized, clean, and has minimal stored items. I stand by my original review 100%. Still to this day, it has been my most bizarre customer experience ever! We ended up calling another company after, as we had limited days to do this fridge move and they were WONDERFUL. They too had 2 men for the job. They moved the fridge without any complaints, and were really professional and friendly. They encouraged us to pick out other items, boxes, etc. we could fit in our U-haul since they had lots of extra time. They were the exact polar opposite of Not My Parents Garage! Really nice people and reasonably priced. My husband has stored a classic car with these guys for several years. The owner is always accommodating to my husband's schedule. This year, our future son-in-law used their storage for household goods between leases. Again, a great experience. Not My Garage also sponsors several non-profit events. They have been the water sponsor for the Good Samaritan 5k for the last 4 years. Great owner who provides great service. read more

Just learned this place has gone out of business and the owners have been evicted from the storage facility in Syracuse and will not be delivering items back to campus. The owners of storage facility will allow students to pick up their belongings Monday, Aug. 21st through Thursday, Aug. 24th. A Facebook group has been formed -- Not My Parents Garage Help Group. I scheduled these guys on Friday to come Saturday morning at 7:00 am. They were prompt, courteous, professional and industrious. Three and a half hours for two guys cost $210 and they did all the heavy lifting for two medium sized U-Haul truck loads of stuff. I wouldn't schedule a move again without calling them. DO NOT USE - The people who run this company are crazy. After booking service in mid-June and receiving confirmation, called the week before the move at end of July to confirm. Was informed that they could no longer help me because there were "two names" on reservation (mine and daughter who was moving). The woman on the phone yelled at me and then screamed that we should find another company and hung up. I texted the number that gave me the confirmation and was informed that they would no longer help us and to please cancel my reservation. I told them I would not (because I would lose the processing fee) and would be negatively reviewing them. Later that evening my husband answers phone to a screaming man from the number of the text confirmation. My husband repeatedly asked man to identify himself. When man began to threaten the family (We will get you) he hung up. I later received a text (from the same number) saying that I had threaton(sic) the wrong company. I now fear for my safety. The company knows the address (from reservation) and I can't wait to get out of town and away from this crazy company. I have now canceled my reservation and booked another company. Not my Parents' Garage is the greatest! If your child goes to college in upstate NY, this is a great service. The guys came when they said in May, took our stuff and stored it for the summer, and delivered it undamaged to a new dorm at the start of the fall semester, all at a reasonable price. They made moving in and out of college a relative pleasure. read more

Don't call these guys. First of all you are a business to server a customer don't interrupt them on the phone listen to their complaint, secondly if you say you are going to call them back in 15 min don't wait for them to call you back 30 min later. Their service over the phone was so bad I couldn't even get the right scheduled time for them to pick up and drop off everything was already packed. They also wanted me to pay an hour of time for them to travel 30 min!!! Should have read the reviews first. read more

This is the worst company ever, I cannot believe it is still in business. Whatever you do, DO NOT use this service!! We had an appointment at 3:00pm, and at 2:45pm they showed up. The supervisor called and cursed me out on the phone about not being there on time, and about how he had been to my house years before, and that there are "too many stairs". I got there at 2:55pm, five minutes before our appointment. He started cursing at me on the top of his lungs about how I "must be a f***ing idiot". He kicked my stuff around and said he refused to take it unless it was taped more. So I began taping it up more. He began loading his truck and continued yelling at me, inches away from my face at the top of my lungs. He said I "go to a premier school" and I should be a "smart f***ing person" but I'm not. I was genuinely concerned for my safety because he was so enraged. This went on for a few minutes. Half way through his job, he said "f*** it--I'm not doing this job" and brought the stuff back into the house. I asked his employee if he thought I did anything wrong and he basically said he just does what he's told. Overall, the worst experience. I would not recommend using this service. It seems the guy has an uncontrollable temper. read more

Hired them to assist my my local move fr a two hour job. Brian and his pal showed up. Brian took a call in his car from his lawyer for 34 minutes. We all heard the screaming and shouting. When he was done, he came into the house and said they were done. I still had two rooms not packed (and thank god I had a neighborhood kid there to help when Brian ditched the job.) BTW I had plenty of blankets and they said they had plastic wrap, and on the UHaul site they state that I didn't have that nor empty my dresser, armoire was too heavy - I had eight pieces of furniture and no appliance! I asked to empty things and they said it wasn't necessary. Contacted two days later to unload truck as they offered. I just wanted things moved in I would set up - I'm all alone, so any help I could get was for me a lifesaver. Brian began the day screaming and yelling that they had four more moves. Brian then refusing a call from an "Indian bastard that won't pay" Stuff gets moved into my home - and I can't believe what they broke! My sofa, propped against a wall. My Chair , broken at the leg. My new mattress was soiled in dirt and oil. My $3000 armoire - leg is completely snapped off. Brian told me he couldn't get the screw to take, but the damn thing fell on my a few days later and I found they back half all snapped off. My dresser broken. Two book cases - broken...meantime, Brian is sharing with me rants because his phone keeps ringing and I keep asking should he answer - "hey we just don't move anybody. We don't do Blacks, We don't do Indians" i'm disgusted. At this point I want them gone. They leave but I don't discover the broken furniture until I being to set up my home. they had cleverly placed furniture against walls. Had I not wanted to do a thorough cleaning in my new home, idk when I would have found out. When I discovered the damages I called the offices, I called Brian's cell phone - no one returned my call. No one offered to come back and see the damaged property and I'm now learning they are out of business. I disputed the charge but I will be going to small claims court for sure. These guys are crap, and they told me they specialize in the university kids and moving elderly out of their homes. so if you take a chance and use them, clock them and make sure all your stuff is moved without breakage. Don't let them go over your allotted time - do not let them add time. They purposely do that, and what I have heard from other disgruntled clients is there is always one guy who "leaves" to take a call. They are only concerned with having as many moves in a day, not providing a quality service. I hired them to move my stuff without breaking and damaging anything. That is not the service I got. I work for a local college campus and have had a variety of issues with Not My Parents Garage. In addition to some questionable practices in dealing with the college's administration, they have lost students' belongings regularly. Even those that have been satisfied with the service overall, particularly due to the price point, have shared that Not My Parents Garage is unorganized and often loses belongings for periods of time. In one instance, students had to come to us because belongings were lost and Not My Parents Garage would not return their phone calls either intentionally or out of neglect for months at a time. It wasn't until the college got involved that they responded and addressed the issue. Therefore we stopped advertising their services at all. Since we stopped advertising and refused to sign a contract utilizing their services exclusively over other local options, which we do not do in general, the owner has begun e-mail our students stating that we are no longer willing to use their services and have begun turning away our students. Though it is probably for the best, from our perspective students are welcome to use any storage facility they wish. Not My Parents Garage has opted to turn away return business and point the finger at the college. This company is clearly poorly run and thankfully it seems our campus will no longer have to deal with them. I recommend other campuses and prospective customers find alternatives as well. read more
