TL;DR: For the really important stuff, trust these guys…read more Longer version: Was in Ithaca for a family memorial service; thus the ceramics and pottery we were shipping back to California had a great deal of value to us. How do you ship several pounds of bowls, ceramic art and sculptures? Could have used the Post Office, UPS Store, etc...and probably end up with a box of fragments when it arrived. Found Uncle Marty's on Yelp, and was encouraged by the reviews, so we drove the rental with a trunk full of ceramics there. Staff was very understanding, kind, and friendly. At the same time, while they were gentle on the items and very mindful of how to pack them, they were also very conscious of the cost implications, and worked through several different options to find the right number of boxes (and the right sizes) to ship off the items to two different locations (daughter in Chicago, us back in California). While it didn't end up being inexpensive (not Uncle Marty's fault...FedEx ain't never been the cheapest), I am pleased that every single item arrived perfectly packed, safe, and undamaged. I'm not sure if I'll ever find myself again needing to ship things from upstate New York, but if I do I know where I'll go.

I stopped here recently because I used to ship via DHL from my office, but campus is closed and I'm…read morenow not able to schedule a pick-up from the same location. I have a DHL account I've used for charging the cost of shipments; however, the person I spoke with at the front desk of Uncle Marty's while trying to ship out my parcel said that they have a specific retail export account number that all shipments get assigned to when being scheduled for pick-up... so they can't use alternative DHL accounts for charging shipments. When I offered to pay for the shipment with my procurement card, that seemed to be fine... until I inquired further about whether or not duties/fees could be charged to that same procurement card upon their arrival at the destination processing facility (I was shipping to Tanzania, and this is an easy process when shipping via your own DHL account). I've typically ensured our office - as the sender - makes payment on duties/fees for a parcel, at least within the last couple years (it expedites the delivery, and many international institutions in the developing world don't have the easily accessible means to pay for duties/fees on an item that's being provided to them as a donation). Since I wasn't able to ensure that duties/fees would be paid by me/my procurement card as the sender - and I couldn't use my own DHL account - I ended up leaving, parcel in-hand, without being able to get it processed and sent out via Uncle Marty's. I was also able to leave with a single plastic waybill packet, as well as a paper waybill... after specifically requesting both items (more than once). While DHL has certainly preferred folks go through their electronic scheduling system in recent years, that has proven to sometimes be problematic when shipping to certain parts of the world (given the need for indicating villages / areas that aren't especially known)... so I like to have a couple paper waybills handy, and I *HAVE* been able to ship out with paper waybills (i.e. without DHL rejecting the parcel because of a paper waybill) without issue. In the beginning of working from home back in March, I had gone to the Pack & Ship store that used to be on the corner of the Commons to ship out an identical parcel. There? No issues whatsoever (and yes, I used a paper waybill for that parcel). But that store is closed now, so I opted to try Uncle Marty's. Unfortunately, the process isn't as easy here as it was at the store on the Commons (which was so much easier because I was just able to use my DHL account number for any / all charges). TL;DR The explanation above probably includes more complicating factors than most shipments being sent out via Uncle Marty's, but it was my experience. The guy I spoke with at the desk was certainly friendly and answered my questions helpfully (hence the rating), but it's important to know the complicating factors of trying to use your own DHL account, etc.

The three…read moregentlemen who moved me were polite, punctual, organized, careful, efficient, and highly organized -- need I go on? The first move was two years ago when I moved from Honesdale to New York City. And the second time was a few months ago when I moved out of my New York City apartment to New Jersey, but Minute-Man Movers transported all of my belongings to a storage unit back in Scranton, PA. The team likes to get started early, and when I say early, the earlier the better. I asked Dave, the lead guy at the company, if he could be at my apartment by 6 a.m., and true to his word he was there at the requested time right on the dot. Both times the guys moved me, nothing was out of place, let alone damaged, and the second time around I did a lousy job of packing. But that didn't stop them from taking care of everything. It was a little pricy for me, but that's because of all of the driving the movers had to undertake back and forth, but their service was nothing short of incredible both times, so it was worth every penny. I'd hire them again in a heartbeat, and I always recommend them to all of my friends and family. You can't go wrong with these guys!

And I'm going to put this everywhere on social media…read more These sloppy movers took the paint completely off one entire side of a dresser and put a hole in my $2,000 couch while moving it up the stairs. THEN, they say they will fix it, come to my house twice to take photos and repaint the dresser, which by the way a 5 year old could paint better, and get the exact color of my couch so they can get a matching patch to repair the hole. They never came back. So I called them..NOW the excuse is I opted to not buy blankets to cover my furniture. I opted to not buy blankets? That they have on their truck? To protect them from shoving your couch so hard up a flight of stairs that they literally push it thru the handrail, while it's shrink wrapped? I'm left with a ruined, very expensive piece of furniture. All I'm going to say is DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THESE PEOPLE... They will destroy your belongings then TURN THE BLAME ON YOU!!!!!! Typical dishonest CROOKS. And to think, I was so generous with an amazing tip as they promised to make the repairs. So despite my disappointment, I was KIND, and got screwed anyway!!! They moved me out of my apartment and into my house and destroyed my laptop in the process (not a huge deal, you'd think a company would just reimburse you and that would be the end of it). NOPE. They refuse to pay for my laptop. I've sent over a dozen emails and made over a dozen phone calls to this company over the last 10 months. The customer service is awful, they always say "we'll have someone contact you within a day", and I'm left waiting weeks and months for someone to call me back or reply to my email. We rented a car trailer from U-haul Syracuse. i needed it…read morethat night to go to Pa. with our Jeep. The trailer was in rough shape, the jack to lift the trailer was broken off. The attendant stated "do you really want this thing?" I brought my own to lift the hitch on and off the ball. While traveling down I-81 the straps to to hold my car to the trailer flew off. leaving my car free to disembark the trailer at will. This happened twice. We went to an auto parts store for for own straps to complete out journey. The ratchet straps were thread bare on the ends so with constant trailer movement the straps would not hold. This trailer should never have left U-haul. even at my insistence. If my car flew off the trailer and killed people, an investigation would have shown negligence on the part of U-haul. My lawyer concurred. Beware of U-haul, It's not worth dying for.
