The worst moving company I have ever dealt with. Do not waste your money. This company does not take care of its customers and does not take responsibility for damages caused during the move. The owner, Matt, was friendly and accommodating when I first called for a quote and to schedule my move, but that completely changed once problems came up. During the move, the movers damaged my TV stand while carrying it upstairs. I personally saw the leg break off and they did not realize I had witnessed it happen. Instead of taking responsibility, they tried to act as if it had already been damaged, saying, "Oh ma'am, the leg keeps falling off." The leg was not loose before the move. A large chunk of wood had been ripped off the stand. I tried to be understanding and simply asked if they could repair or reattach it. They never did. A few days later, while unpacking, I turned on my TV and discovered that it had also been damaged during the move and was completely broken. I contacted Matt immediately, just as I had done regarding the TV stand. For the TV stand damage, I was offered only $30. When I called about the TV, I was told, "I'm sorry Kianna, I can't do anything about it. I can send you the contract again." Paying hundreds of dollars for professional movers only to have your belongings damaged and then be told there is nothing they can do is unacceptable. The lack of accountability, customer service, and professionalism was extremely disappointing. Really a super experience. From the initial chat with Matt to spec out the job, to his follow-up and the great team that came. It wasn't a long move, but I have a lotta stuff and there were stairs. We used Not A Hobby Moving in September 2025. I was seven months pregnant at the time and haven't had a chance to write this review until now. I think it's important for any future customers of this business to be aware of the experience that we had. We chose Not A Hobby over more affordable options because Matt, the owner, had assured me that his prices were worth it for his "A Team" moving crew and special care they would take of our fragile family heirlooms. Unfortunately, our experience was the exact opposite of what Matt sold to me. When the movers arrived Matt hadn't given them any of the details we had discussed and they told me Matt was often unreliable in prepping them for jobs. I had to micro-manage them to make sure our fragile furniture was handled carefully. Matt had also not told me that I had to request mattress bags ahead of time. Our mattresses were put into the dirty moving truck and handled by sweaty movers without any covering. When we called this out, Matt brought over bags and our mattresses were put into them after the damage had already been done (and after Matt gaslighted me about it). The movers damaged the door frame of our old house when they were moving out our fridge (this was even more of a problem because we were planning to list the house immediately after moving out). Matt's way of "making this right" was not to replace the door frame, but to send his fix-it man over to just putty up the holes and scratches. My husband wasted many hours going back to the house to inspect his work and have him do it again until it looked passable to list the house. Problems continued when the movers got to our new house. Matt had not told them about the flight of stone steps leading down to our front door that they would have to carry everything down to get into the house. I had talked at length with Matt about the steps and even showed him pictures when he came to do a walkthrough for the quote. Not surprisingly, Matt had not told his team about the steps, or even that they would be moving us into a two-story home (apparently the one thing Matt did tell the crew was that they would be moving us to a one-story home, which was incorrect), so the crew had not brought any plywood to put down to make a ramp down the stairs. They had to take every load up and down every step, racking up multiple additional hours of time and hundreds of dollars to the cost of the move. After allllll of that, we had 1) a damaged door frame, 2) a dented washer and dryer (which we had just bought), 3) furniture that the movers had assembled incorrectly, not assembled at all, or damaged during assembly, 4) mattresses covered in the sweat of the movers and dirt from the moving truck, and that STILL isn't the end of this review. After we had paid thousands of dollars for the worst service we've ever received, one of the crew informs us that he's pretty sure he's got a staph infection in one of his fingers! We are talking about the same finger that's touched literally all of our stuff. And he shows us his very swollen finger with a bandage hanging off of it and pus coming out of a clearly infected wound. So now we've gotten ripped off and also have to worry about whether or not we can even live in our new home at the risk of contracting STAPH (reminder that I am seven months pregnant at this time and higher risk). We spent an hour on the phone with Matt giving him the opportunity to make it right. We were met with nothing but defensiveness and gaslighting and eventually he agreed to provide a basic cleaning service to our new home. I realize that many people have had good experiences with this company. I can speak firsthand to the incompetence and complete lack of regard for the customer by the owner of this business. You have a choice about which mover you spend your money with and there are a lot of options out there - don't take a chance with this company. It was an expensive mistake for us and many of our belongings were permanently damaged. I would never recommend this business to anyone. read more

My roommate and I had Not a Hobby Moving move us only 2 miles down the road, which we only had them move large items since we didn't have a truck. They took our beds, tvs, desks, and couch. They were nice guys, but showed up 1.5 hours late and not remorseful (we had a certain time slot booked to utilize the freight elevator at our new apartment building). Two days later after we had completely moved out of our old place and had WiFi set up, I turned on my TV to which I noticed was broken. The cracks weren't as visible without turning it on, I should have checked. I called to let them know, but please if you book with them, know they do not cover this (it's in the paperwork that you sign, which I did not even sign. My roommate did, but they also moved my things, meaning I was also an owner of half of the things they moved and they did not show me anything or have me sign otherwise I would have moved myself if I knew it wasn't covered). I watched them move out our 3 large flat screens, none of which they even wrapped or packed. They did the same with the mattresses, etc. only wrapped the couch. (Mattress over 1k and saw it bent over leaning against a wall multiple times to which I told them to please lay it flat against a surface). When we booked with them we were reassured that everything would be wrapped up before moving, but they didn't, so they were broken (like my tv) or very dirty when they arrived. Most of all, now I am stuck with buying a new tv to replace the one they broke, which will cost me more than the entire moving bill did. read more

They were hired by Amanda Turner and it was a total disaster. They took the husbands personal items that were not authorized to leave the property. I definitely recommend Einstein Movers over this company. They are more professional and have been around longer. Not A Hobby is a fairly new company, and it shows with their service. I originally started the booking on Thumbtack where NAH advertises their rate as $120/hr. I scheduled a move from a one bedroom, 1st floor apartment to the unit directly next door just steps away. The only items to move were a desk, bed, couch, and a few smaller pieces of furniture such as nightstands and a coffee table. The manager, John Preston, called and asked me to cancel my booking on Thumbtack since they charge him a fee, so I did, and we set up the move over the phone. The estimate we discussed was for a $100 drive fee, and $130/hr for two movers with a two hour minimum. I didn't question why the rate went up $10/hr since NAH is a small business, and I prefer to support locally. A friend in my complex is also moving - from a two bedroom, 3rd floor to 3rd floor unit in another building - and asked who I was using, and I told her I normally use Einstein, but since I had started the process with NAH, I would use them for this small move. She decided to get an estimate and ultimately booked with them because they cut her a deal that was not offered to me. It was fairly small change - a $50 truck fee instead of $100. The truck will be needed for her move since it is to another building unlike mine where the movers simply carried the furniture next door. When I called to ask if they would also offer me the reduced fare since the truck would not be used at all for my move, I received a condescending response from another of the managers - Matt Aubry. He talked around in circles about how their estimates work and repeated details that I already knew and understood and had agreed upon. My only question was why there was a reduced travel fee for a client I referred to their company, and he became argumentative and rude for some reason. He made it abundantly clear that he wasn't concerned about providing a modicum of customer service, so if the owner is willing to act like that, it speaks volumes about the company's integrity as a whole. The move itself was fine. It took two guys an hour to make the move, and the total cost was $360. Well, it actually turned out to be $400 since the movers asked for a tip which I would have provided, but the awkward moment when someone asks you to Venmo them for just having completed their job was fun. read more

Cody and Keenan were fast to load and unload the truck, but I was never worried about anything getting damaged. There's probably no point in leaving this review, because of the many positive reviews this company has and the reason I chose them. I would still recommend them if you have a lot of boxes or furniture that is not easily damaged. The positives: the owners were extremely professional and friendly during the initial walk-through to provide the estimate. They followed through with an email confirming the rates quoted and the moving date. The team arrived on time with all the necessary equipment, protective blankets, and tape. For the most part they were courteous to me directly. They moved all the items requested and were efficient. The cons: one of the guys had an attitude and was less than professional -- it was in stark contrast to both the owners and the other team members. He kept repeatedly answering his phone, "call me back on my other phone." Unless it was the boss or an emergency, I don't know many jobs that allow you to take several personal calls while performing a job. He and another were also constantly giggling -- nothing against having fun on the job, but this was excessive. I don't expect the owner to do anything about that except be aware of it, especially if he happens to hear about it again. The one with the attitude also repeatedly pushed wooden furniture around on the LVP floor without it being on a blanket or dolly, I would expect this to be non-issue from professionals. They were asked twice to stop doing that. While the team did wrap all the sides of the furniture, they didn't put anything underneath it when moving it around except for one item they had to slide on a blanket at the destination -- they should've been doing that the whole time. The other guys were extremely careful and picked up things when moving them, which was much appreciated. However, one item being moved was a solid oak entertainment center weighing at least 400 pounds. The adjustable shelves inside were not removed or secured so with turning it sideways to move it around, the shelves were banging around on the inside -- when one team member pointed it out, the other said "I forgot.". They misplaced a piece of one of the bedposts and insisted it had arrived with them; one of the guys was extremely apologetic, but I had to send a family member back to the first house to look for it to make sure it wasn't lost on their truck. I should have pointed out the scratches in the floors, furniture, and stair damage at the time, my mistake. Ultimately I could not locate an email address for the company, so I texted this feedback to one of the owners. I did not expect anything from it as I recognize the difficulty in proving something happened at a specific time. I wanted him to know that my experience was less than excellent. I even started out with the positives, but felt it was important he know the team (specifically one member) did not meet my expectations with their behavior or their treatment of my furniture and flooring. He called me back a few minutes later, which overall made the matter worse by catching me off guard with his defensiveness on the matter. In response to my stating they had caused some damage, he kept circling back to their positive review rate and how he "found it hard to believe" they were scooting around the furniture, which I witnessed myself or there would have been no need to ask them to stop doing it. He said that was his "best team." If that's the case, they should all know to buffer the furniture from the flooring. He all but said I was making it up. I don't know why someone would make up this stuff just for fun. I didn't ask for any money back, I didn't request any action. In fact I did tip the guys because moving heavy stuff is a pain in the *ss. Further, he basically implied that my furniture/floor was likely previously damaged because he had seen my house during the walk-through and "it wasn't the cleanest or most organized" -- neither of which has any bearing on how my furniture or the new flooring was maintained, not to mention I was preparing for a move so why would it be clean or organized? He backtracked and said I shouldn't put words in his mouth, but I'm not sure how the organization and cleaning of my house were at all relevant to the conversation if he wasn't making an implication. He did ask me for pictures of the damages which I stated I would send, but he was simultaneously indicating he doesn't believe that team was responsible. Plus with wooden furniture there is not much to be done with scratches other than disguising them. The stair nose could be replaced, which I would appreciate. I hadn't planned on sending pictures since I wasn't expecting anything out of it from them. The conversation did not go well at all. If anything comes of getting the stair nose replaced, I will update the review accordingly. read more

We're remodeling 2 rooms in our house, so contracted with Not a Hobby to move furniture from those rooms into garage and other rooms in the house. Can't say enough how quickly and efficiently Cody and David relocated our items. This included a loaded freezer, two very heavy large glassed bookcases, a tiki bar, TV, furniture, loads of boxes and framed art. They had to remove two doors but still completed it within the 2-hour contract timeframe. They were on time and very professional communicating. I have moved a lot through the years and have had tons of experience with various moving companies. These guys are the best experience I've had by far! I reached out to several movers for quotes/availability and within minutes I received a response with a very fair price. Per our request, we scheduled for their last spot of the day. While they did run slightly later than our scheduled time, which is typical when you select the last move of the day, they were proactive & prompt in communicating their e.t.a. and showed up in full-force with enthusiasm despite an entire day of doing other moves. These guys were super friendly, communicated well, listened to our concerns/requests and most importantly, very careful & considerate with our belongings taking all necessary precautions to properly wrap, secure large furniture items strategically filling the truck. We have used Not a Hobby twice now, once for moving our things from a U-Haul to our temporary apartment unit, then a few weeks later from there to our permanent place down the hall. Both times the movers (we've had 4 total, 2 each time) were respectful, prompt, and communicative. They showed up on time, made sure that items were placed exactly where we needed them, and were gentle with all of our stuff. Our move was double the cost of what we expected. A team of 5 guys took 9.25 hours to move us 7 min away and we were packed! They had to wrap tv's and take apart beds, but that's it. 4 bedroom house. 3 of the 5 guys were so incredibly inefficient and at $300/hr, you shouldn't be on your phone and text all throughout the day. Feedback given to the Ops Mgr, who was great, but I feel like we way overpaid for what we got. Heard that are firing one guy for being so lazy. They left an item of ours in their truck, but the Mgr did replace it for us. I cannot believe how expensive this was - and several of the guys just rode my clock so much of the day. read more

I hired Not A Hobby Moving for my recent Austin move, and I am so glad I did. I initially found them on thumbtack and from day 1 the NAH moving team was responsive, friendly and fair. During my move today, Evan and Cade were on time (early actually!) and got SO MUCH done in a very short amount of time. Not a single item was dropped or broken and every single thing was treated with an abundance of care that kept me from worrying about the state of my stuff. They asked the right questions and were super professional the entire move. Last but not least, I'm a single woman who lives alone and I find that having strangers in the house can sometimes be stressful, but not with this crew. I felt super safe and the cherry on the sundae was that they kept my pet safe! Even with full hands, Evan and Cade made sure that they closed the door so the cat didn't get out.
