Visited Nosh Kitchen for the first time in four years and was instantly reminded how good their burgers are. We stopped in on a winter Wednesday, so it was pretty quiet, but the space still had a cool ambiance with great music playing and a couple of people at the bar. My husband and I both ordered burgers (made with smash patties) and they were delicious. The menu felt more compact than I remembered, but there were still plenty of solid options. The burgers tasted like an elevated Big Mac in the best way. I also appreciated that our waitress offered to substitute the fries for a Caesar salad! I took her up on it, and it was surprisingly really good with lots of Parmesan. We also had the pretzel bites, and they were phenomenal with a generous portion size. Service all around was great. Nosh has done it again - an incredible experience, service, and ambiance. I went for lunch today (Friday) at 1pm and was seated immediately. I didn't even have to wait for my friend to be seated which is always nice as I had time to have a drink while waiting. My service was super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and food and drink specials. They had a DIPA beer, a cocktail, one food item, and one dessert item on special today. I got to try the food special which was a hot and sweet burger - double patty with pepper jack, lettuce, chipotle aioli, and hot honey. I added pickles and got the Parmesan truffle fries. Both the burger and fries were mouthwatering delicious. For my drinks I got the Dirigorita which was basically a margarita with apple cider, maple syrup, citrus and a cinnamon sugar rim. I had to have three they were so good. My friend had the poutine which was with vegetable gravy, mushrooms, cheese curds, and their hand-cut fries. Everything was so delicious. Every experience here has been awesome. The entire establishment (entrance, seats, bathrooms) are handicap accessible. It was quiet and slightly empty in the restaurant upon arrival. By 2:30pm they were full but it was not too loud to have a conversation. They do not have their own parking lot but there is a ton of nearby street parking or paid parking lots. Street parking you have to pay Monday-Saturday only until 6pm. It is much cheaper than the 24/7 paid lots. I love the seasonal menu changes but consistent staples on the menu. It is walking distance to a ton of shops, coffee places, and restaurants. I would definitely recommend going to Nosh! read more

Came to Nosh when we realized the intended restaurant for the night was actually closed haha. We were seated without any wait. Started off dinner with the lobster rangoons (6 pieces) and a side of sweet and sour sauce. The rangoons were thicc boys with quite a bit of cream cheese but a good amount of lobster. I got the Sweet & Spicy burger sub fries instead of a salad for $2. The burger was gas and surprisingly had two smash patties! The flavors worked beautifully, however I would not say this was spicy. I had to work quickly because the sesame buns were doing their best to hold up. Also, thought the one side of pickle was funny. My friend got the 20 hour pork, which was accompanied by maque choux, spinach, and apple-sage butter. Unfortunately, the pork was not the star of the dish -- tender but not that much flavor. The sides were really tasty though. Get the drinks here!! I had the Lurch cocktail, which was smooth, sweet, and a little hint of spice. My friend got the Penicillin (I forgot what was in it), but it was a little strong, still good tho. The ambiance at night is really cozy and dim. The space is large, and the bathrooms were clean. Large long bar area, with nice atmosphere inside. They have a couple tables outside but not to much space. They have some crafty cocktails, beer and wine selection. It used to be a burger place but now I believe it is more of just a regular bar. They have elevated bar food that is a little pricey. We got the fried pickles and the pretzel bites and they were really good. I would stop here in for a drink and apps, at the bar but probably not for a sit down meal. I was here once before, years ago. Weird that I haven't been back until now seeing as I live so close now. Anyway, I was really pleased with my meal. I sat at the bar which is not something I usually do, and had a ... cocktail, a Diamond something. I sort of expected to be able to find the drinks menu online but I can't haha. It was very good - very strong for its size. I was warm enough on my walk home, to be sure. I also got the fried chicken sandwich which was immensely satisfying. I ordered it with the salad, which was lightly dressed. The chicken was an enormous hunk of meat with a thick, crispy coating that did its part in soaking up the alcohol. Just all around excellent. The SO was so hangry and wanted a burger AND a pizza. What a coincidence that when scrolling through the menu we come across the Slab Burger... a nosh burger and and fixin's between two halves of a cheese hand slab?? We ordered the slab burger, regular burger, and the dunkaroos because he "loves dunkaroos". I wavered on the rating because it seemed like the food was more on the fun side than it was the good side. There was the novelty of the pizza burger and the nostalgia of the dessert, but at the end of the day the best part of the slab burger was the slab pizza. The nosh burger itself was fairly bland and unimpressive and for a $12 burger, I really expected more! Same story with the dunkaroos -- exciting to order but 2 bites and we were done. Perhaps it was the to go ness of it that deflated the taste but it was just way too expensive and not that good to want to go back. Their saving grace were the fries. They were simple salt and pepper fries but they packed great flavor. The SO is particular about his fries and they were his favorite, so that's a big set of points to them. read more

The best thing about this place was that there was hot water in the bathroom to wash you hands. We used to go here every year. And the food used to be great. Now it is unremarkable and expensive. The service was so-so. I felt bad the waitress was the only one on the floor. Hostess, waitress, bus person. Just her. So I didn't fault her for taking forever for the food to show up. I still gave her a 15% tip. I say poor management for bad staffing. The menu said add fries for $2. Should say "substitute". Needless to say, I need a new restaurant in Portland now. The fries tasted over salted and the burger honestly was good, but after eating it it didn't settle well in my stomach. Thinking it's time to give Nosh another shot. We thought maybe, just maybe Escobarr would not be packed at 2pm on the final day of a holiday weekend and we were very wrong. In need of a snack and a drink we popped over to Nosh which was very quiet and suited us just fine. They had some decent cocktails, a good draft list and how do you not love a menu page of all tallboys (PBR, Tecate, Schlitz (!), Hamm's (!!)), most of which were about $3.50; right on the money for that size and kind of beer, at least in Portland. Our server/bartender/doing-it-all person was wonderful. I can't remember her name but she had a slight (European?) accent. Super on top of it but not hovering, fun to joke around with. A delight, I tell ya. We were meeting others for dinner so we only had fries, but they were seriously amazing and to say I take fries seriously is a massive understatement. I think maybe gone are the days of bacon dusted, etc so they had a garlic parmesan version that was so F'ing good. The food was 4-Stars for me but, I believe they're in the process or changing management and menus (she says as if 4-stars is bad....). I got the House-made Veggie Burger and very much appreciated that it came with a salad as a side, instead of having to pay extra for salad. Wahoo! They have updated their menu and it flippin rules! I came here a while back and was disappointed with the vegetarian options, or lack thereof. I went with the falafel sandwich, which was pretty good. I recently went back and was AMAZED AND EXCITED to see they now offer several veg options! Polenta fries! Cheese curds! And nachos with VEGAN MEAT CRUMBLE! The vegan meat crumble was absolutely scrumptious. It was fresh tasting, and didn't have that "fresh out of the freezer" feel. The polenta fries were huge and served in a bed of arugula and other assorted veggies. They were life changing. The service has been pretty superb the last few times I've been here - splitting checks and refilling waters and whatnot. I love the vast beer list. I've been going to Nosh since it's original owner and it's airing on Man vs. Food...it's been my favorite ever since. The prices were right. The food was amazing, the beer selections were awesome and the atmosphere was perfect. Crazy burgers and great beer and an awesome owner...what more could you want? I went there on a Saturday evening, wasn't busy (if it was the original owner it would of been an hour wait). I hadn't been there in a few years. I sat at the bar, excited to see what craziness was on the menu only to be punched in the gut with a menu that you can find at any overpriced hipster restaurant. I was heartbroken. The bartender was also rude and pushy because " we weren't ordering one of HER REAL cocktails" and served us WARM WATER. I've eaten there more times then I can count. This "New Nosh" is nothing special and a complete let down. R.I.P. to the Apocolypse Now Burger, The Slab, the Inglorious Bastard burger. And Dunkaroos for dessert. You'll truly be missed. read more

Nice little location on Congress St. A friend had recommended it to me so wanted to give it a try. I went with my Dad when we were in Portland for the day. Staff was great. Nice beer selection and good cocktail range. We both loved our fries. They have since updated their menu so I'll leave out the food we had for now and will update my review when I go back and try something from the new menu. This place does have a hipster vibe, I don't mind but if you're not into this, be aware. My one complaint which others have noted is that it is LOUD. The acoustics amplify everything (music, conversations, restaurant noises) so you won't be having too much of a conversation unless you get there when it is fairly empty. Otherwise the noise level just builds as everyone gradually talks louder to overcome the noise and creates a cycle. Hopefully they are able to hang some sound dampening materials as others have noted this in their reviews also. I'll be back the next time I visit Portland. read more

Came here for a super late brunch at 4pm, Saturday. The place was packed and remained so the entire time we were there. A poppin' local spot. The ambiance is super casual. Large bar takes up a good portion of the space. Very loud noise levels. You won't be having any soulful conversations while here, so just prepare for talking very loudly and leaning in to hear what your company across the table are saying. We weren't as lucky with our waitress as other patrons have been. She was curt and sulky. Other staff around us were very upbeat and welcoming, so can say positive feedback about the establishment's service level. Our waitress seemed to be the exception. She probably got off on the wrong foot in the morning so we felt uncomfortable interacting with her. We got a sense that she was annoyed with our decision to frequent this bar and wanted us out as soon as possible. She was probably having a bad day so we tried not to let her attitude influence our experience. The bacon dusted fries ($7) were spectacular. A must try. Golden, crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. The bacon dusting is brilliant--ads that punch of flavor that you'll be craving over and over. The establishment claims that their burgers are all-natural, and sourced within a 250-mile radius in Nebraska. Read from their web, "Production is single-sourced, meaning when the animals are slaughtered they are all from the same farm. All animals are pasture-raised and grass-fed for the last 90 days of their healthy lives. We use ground beef chuck, beef brisket, all-natural pork shoulder, bacon, fresh garlic, and rosemary. You're not going to get burgers like this anyplace else in Portland, ME." The last 90 days clause sounds ridiculous--so the animals can eat whatever for their entire, albeit short and unhappy, life, but if they're grass fed their last 90 days that is supposed to rectify all the prior damage? Nonetheless, have to say that my bf and I greatly enjoyed the burger patties, as they were flavorful, juicy, and tender. As the name promise, the apocalypse burger ($21) will bring you into a high carb, high fat food coma upon its consumption. It comes with American cheese (we substituted for Swiss) crispy pork belly, smoked bacon, foie grass pate, mayo cherry jam on a grilled brioche bun. My first time trying foie grass pate on a burger, and as a foie grass connoisseur, I really enjoyed how well the pate paired with the burger patty. The pork belly was not necessary. The slab of fat didn't add anything to the dish so we left if out. Otherwise, all other ingredients combined well together. This was a very fatty burger, so prepare not to count your calories. The mac and cheese burger ($14) with two patties, special sweet sauce, pickles, American cheese (we substituted for Swiss) and onions was simple but definitely a must try that exceeded my expectations. I'm not a fan of mac and cheese but this burger was masterfully conceptualized and executed so I finished every last crumb. A juicy, flavorful patty between two fried, crunchy blocks of mac and cheese. Very oily, leaving greasy residue on the plate, but it was worth it. You can splurge and treat yourself from time to time. Find an occasion and come here for the mac and cheese burger to do it. Overall, a solid experience that I'd recommend to others and would like to enjoy again when visiting Portland. read more

So...now I see why they call Portland a foodie's paradise! This was our last night here and we've pretty much had seafood our entire stay. I stumbled upon Nosh through Yelp trying to find something to eat late. Ordered the Big Mack and fries as takeout to take back to our hotel. Boy was I surprised! This is a true gourmet burger. First of all I wasn't aware it was a double burger. Both patties look to be 1/2 lb each (but I could be wrong). The biggest take away was FLAVOR! FLAVOR! FLAVOR! Aside from it being a perfectly cooked medium it was super juicy. I won't even try to guess what ingredients were used aside from the beef, but my goodness this was a great burger. Fries were fresh cut. Nice sized pub cuts with the skin and dusted with salt and pepper. When we return to Maine, (which we will) can't wait to explore the rest of the menu. Try it! read more

I liked this place a lot, and I probably would've left a nicer review a month ago. The food is pretty good, great I'd even say. The staff are all pretty nice people too, but more recently I've had experiences with the restaurant that have soured my opinion. The place makes (made technically, I'll get to that momentarily) pretty solid buffalo wings. Problem is prices have inflated rapidly for these in a matter of months, disproportionate to other menu items. The restaurant has claimed this is due to a scarcity issue. I'm not sure why that would be, but I suppose its not the biggest problem. I was able to order other things. Noise travels, and I have a difficult time with too much noise, so I usually eat out. I ordered takeout a few weeks ago and was "put on hold". An experience which lasted... well... the whole night. They never got back to me. Ever. Most recently (and what motivated me to leave this review) was an underwhelming menu change. They've changed menus before and those decisions have been hit or miss, but this change was honestly somewhat upsetting. A lot of items I'd previously enjoyed were removed and substituted with pretty mid-tier stuff I could get anywhere else. All of the new items were more money than the things they replaced. I understand that Portland is a pricy place and that complications come with running restaurants, and I try to be as sympathetic to that as I can. I used to have a really high opinion of this place a year ago however and the fact its made this many mistakes and bad choices consecutively is pretty disheartening. I hope something turns around. I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed. EDIT: I'd argue they should change some of their information on this site, too. They aren't open as late as they used to be. Hobs and I popped in for a quick lunch. Funny thing about this spot is that I found it on several "must hit" lists for places in Portland, ME - But I suppose it was only ok for me. I can understand why it is on those lists though - It's certainly very interesting and different and not necessarily your run of the mill Maine lobster place. They focus on fusion, which is pretty cool. But coming from a diverse place that has a lot of cool international food, it wasn't mind-blowingly different for me. There's a pretty cool looking bar, along with screens to watch sports. The beer list is legit. Lots of Maine brews. The list of food is relatively small, with influences from Korean, Indian, etc cuisines... Even poutine was on the menu! My hubs got a spicy Korean chicken sandwich that wasn't very spicy and the sauce was way watery. I think he liked it, but it could have been better. I got a tuna sashimi naan sandwich. I was thinking it was going to be more salad style, and not rice - Or at least if there was rice, a lot less of it. This was super filling and good, but there was just too much rice. This was a cool joint, but I dunno if the food was as spectacular as people made it seem. I'd come for drinks though. read more

I should start by disclaiming that if I could, I would give Nosh 3.5 stars. While there's nothing "wrong" per say with Nosh, it's just that things aren't particularly "right" for me personally. I think their menu is expensive, but maybe it's not when you when see their portion sizes. Menu items also don't come with any sides. All a la carte. For me, it's so much food that it makes me feel a bit ill to think of. The ONLY way I can do Nosh for a meal is if I intend to share the portion completely in half and limit my sides. Maybe I'm crazy for this mindset though, because many people seem to enjoy this spot. What brings me here? The scene. The beer. It's entertaining and cool. A good pit stop when you're on Congress. I also appreciate that they are so experimental with ways to reinvent the burger. I also enjoyed their sandwich which I split with a friend (see photo). My two cents on how to improve? Revisit portion sizes and reduce prices so that people can get a burger and side for less than $20/person. I think it would make the clientele more comfortably satisfied and help win me over! read more

We arrived and were the only two customers in the restaurant. We ordered our drinks and food pretty quickly. Soon after, a family of about 10 arrived. Once they arrived we could no longer get any attention from the servers. We wanted a 2nd drink, but waited and waited. I finally got the server's attention. Before our 2nd drinks arrived the party of 10 and another party of six (who also came in after us) had all of their food (which included some of what we had ordered). My husband and I came here last fall during the pandemic, so this review is a bit overdue. We've wanted to try this place for ages, since their menu is really fun and creative, and who doesn't love burgers? My husband got the regular cheeseburger since he wanted to see how they would handle something simple rather than over-the-top. I didn't try any of his burger, but he wasn't impressed, saying it was pretty average and not all that flavorful compared to other gourmet burger joints we've been to. I got the pork belly reuben (which I see is no longer on the menu), and it was insane and over-the-top. Between the liberally buttered bread, the caramelized onions, the cheese, and multiple thick slices of pork belly, I would actually call it too decadent. It was one of those cases where you CAN have too much of a good thing, and it desperately needed something acidic to cut through all the fat. I will say the caramelized onions were delicious and they were very generous with the pork belly. Both sandwiches were a little pricey for what they were, but at least the portion sizes were generous, and we had leftovers. What saved the dinner was our fries. We got the salt and vinegar option, and they were spectacular. Perfectly crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and tangy from the vinegar.
