On behalf of my poor friend, who was charged $300 upon leaving his unit because... get this...
...scratches on the concrete floor.
You heard that correctly. There were soda machines in there. I mean, soda machines... what do you think is going to happen?
Here's the thing - I can understand being charged for repairs, but last I checked, gray floor paint is $10 a gallon, and concrete patching costs next to nothing. An employee can fix it in about an hour's labor.
I mean, MAYBE $50? Being extraordinarily generous?
This was a clear "grab 'em by the cojones" move, and they knew exactly what they were doing. Charge an amount that is arbitrary and outrageous, but not so outrageous that it's worth it for my friend to battle them to get his money back.
Slick.
