My Aunt, Carol spent 12 weeks at Northwoods in hospice care. I wanted to take the opportunity to express my deep appreciation for the staff, and the quality care they provided during her stay. From the Doctor's and PA's, to the Nurses and Aid's, to the front desk staff and Housekeepers, everyone we interacted with was caring and responsive to every need. A hospice journey is never easy, but Northwoods made it as easy as possible for all concerned, especially Carol. I specifically want to call out Steve, Alex, and Kiki for the outstanding work they did. Being an aid for someone who can no longer care for themself has got to be one of the toughest jobs in the world. The dignity, respect, and skill they showed Carol was truly noticed and appreciated. The skilled nursing care of my mother was topnotch! The care givers were excellent, even through the difficult moments. The PA, nurses (especially Yuliia K and Cindy), and the CNAs (especially Jane!) were kind and showed care at every step. Even the cleaning team was amazing! read more

New, and tried to call to ask if my loved one made it in from the H. NO ONE ANSWERED the phones either time, evening or morning. My mind started to worry that there had been a building emergency. Being out of touch with my loved one, not knowing how he was doing, made me feel that he was ISOLATED from family and that he could be as worried as I was for his own safety. Guy at desk was filling in and did not seem to care, but other staff saw my missed calls and explained they needed to tell the fill-ins to answer the phones???? I wasn't there myself. My friend was sent there from St. Anthony's. She promptly got COVID there and was put in an isolation room where she got so little care that she wanted to hurt herself to go back to the hospital. This seems to be a common story for nursing care in the area. Seems to be nice from the outside, sure to be expensive but the patient is abandoned. The usual failure point is community and genuine demonstrated care from the caregivers. read more

My father was here around 2007-2008 and they took great care of him. I recently was in a motorcycle crash and was here following both the first and the second surgery. I received excellent and attentive care from the staff. The food was pretty decent with a good variety of alternative options if what was on the menu didn't fit with a patient's particular taste. read more

This place is soooo wonderful to my Mother!! the staff treats her like a Queen! she gets the best care that any family could ever ask for!! we visit everyday and have only 1 complaint.. I'm a chef so I know where the food comes from and how it's cooked or should I say heated. some of the food is good but 1/2 the time we bring her food from home or restaurant. Ashley at the desk and Abby and the gals that take care of my mother deserve a big reward for the care that they give to mom and the respect they all have! our family wants to recognize all of them and thank them for making my mother feel alive and happy god bless all of you and thank you Adam! read more

I was in a room on the back side of the building...definitely the wrong side of the tracks at Northwoods Lodge!!! That side if the place was THE MOST unprofessional, non-caring so-called skilled nursing facility that I had the misfortune of being stuck in. I turned my call light on at 7:30 PM and as of 8:45 PM, no one had come into my room to see what I needed. I even called my sister and asked her to call the front desk to see if she could get someone to come down here...no answer! What a surprise (sarcasm). Shift change was at 7:00 PM, so I know that that wasn't the reason. I was in surgery for 7 1/2 hours to have my shattered ankle put back together; I needed my pain medication and I had to urinate. I wasn't able to bear weight on my right leg because of the complexity of the surgery and because of the hardware in/on my foot and leg. My wheelchair was across the room and I couldn't use the walker due to the non-weight bearing situation I was in. It's extremely annoying that someone kept moving it out of my reach. It was beyond my compression how every RN and CNA could POSSIBLY be busy elsewhere, all at the same time and for over an hour!! I was supposed to get my IV antibiotics by 9 AM and 9 PM; that's happened exactly four times. I was lucky to get them an hour and a half to two hours later. My Kaiser care nurse changed the times for the antibiotics to accommodate my PT and OT so I can leave here and be able to function at home. As soon as the antibiotics were finished, I had decided that IWAS SO OUT OF THERE!!! I was moved to a room at the front of, and on the other side of, the building because of severe depression at the isolation I was experiencing...we couldn't leave our rooms. I have been able to visit with friends through the window in my room and it was wonderful! This side of the building is a totally different world from the other side. My call light would go on and someone was in there in less than a minute. The director of nursing services for that side of the building had even gone in to assist me when everyone else is busy. She was wonderful! My entire outlook had changed since being moved. I was no longer depressed. I had a nursing staff that actually care about my well-being. Their OT and PT folks were wonderful! If it weren't for them, I would still probably be stuck in there. read more

The PT & OT staff are both highly skilled and very compassionate. Nancy, Kathy, Vicki and Kathleen are wonderful. Chris, Jimmy and Paulette...well I could go on and on. The food and the facilities are great but the best quality are the people who work here! Hopefully you will not ever need Northwoods services but if you do this is the place to go. read more

Could not be happier with the care I was given in over two weeks after surgery. The aide staff is superlative and they have the hardest jobs! EVERYONE was compassionate and helpful. Nurses were also great and when I had a bit of an emergency they were on top of it in a heartbeat. Even the food was good and SO much better than the hospital. PT and OT got me back and functional in short order. Transport got me to doctor's appointments on time and waited for me. Interface with Kaiser staff was seamless and worked well. And BTW the facility is really beautiful and well-maintained and VERY clean. Although I'm glad to be home I miss those guys. Highly recommended. read more

Be warned. You have to be on top of these people to do their jobs. PT and OT was slow to start but we finally got a couple of good PT's who actually did their jobs. Certain nurses were meh. One male nurse shouldn't be working there with elderly people. The Kaiser staff working there is less than stellar. Nobody seemed to know how to work with a patient with severe aphasia and overall they did not discharge my mother with her plans for home health and sent her home without any care instructions. I would never willingly use their service. read more

I was admitted to Northwoods Lodge in April to recuperate from a broken leg. I was unhappy about my predicament and in a lot of pain and probably not the best patient to care for but from the very beginning, I was fortunate to have with the finest care possible. The aides and nurses and all the staff, always had a positive attitude geared to my recovery. They helped me through dealing with pain, discouragement, and feelings of hopelessness, and encouraged me to think positive about my recovery. The OT and the PT personnel staff always were always very positive and uplifting. What I thought was impossible, they helped me regain confidence and strength. But it was the same attitude and help I received throughout my entire experience with their facility and administrative staff. The food was very good and served by caring staff with the same cheerful attitude and they took time to deliver my requests for condiments. The staff even took time to cater to my 5 am desires for tea or coffee with crackers or some kind of "extra" that would tide me over until breakfast! I can only say excellent things about my care during my three week recovery. And when I was released, as much as I wanted to go home, I truly missed all of the staff that cared for me. My Father-in-law and Grandma stayed at Northwoods Lodge following a hospitalization. The staff provided excellent therapy and nursing during their stays. They were both able to return home. It is a beautiful facility with talented and compassionate staff. read more

I worked here for a month and got fired. The staff here are rude and unprofessional. The poor patients wait a very long time to get their meds and to get their call lights answered. You have aides that dont answer their call lights at all. Patient maybe get a shower once a week and they have to ask for it most of time. I have seen care plans not being followed and patients falling due to this. read more

My Grandmother is a current patient at this rehab center. Save your family and DO NOT send them here. My grandmother sat in her urine for 14 hours! Her vitals are supposed to be checked every shift change, it hasn't been checked in almost 24 hours. The director of nursing is incredibly rude. Everyone wants to blame someone else. We haven't left her alone this entire time and if she's getting this horrible care I can only imagine what horrible treatment people who are here alone get. This place is a real sham. A friend, a stroke victim, was sent there for physical therapy and care. Nothing has been done. He had an appointment with a doctor and no one bothered to tell his wife so he couldn't get to the appointment. He can't feed himself, walk by himself or speak so they ignore him. There has been no treatment plan and they just want to send him home where there is only a working wife who is gone most of the day. This place needs to be reported. read more

My guess is that the economy has effected this place. They are under staffed and patient care has been severely impacted. The nursing care is sub-standard at best. Rehab has decreased. The CNA's are over worked and under payed. I has become a business rather than a rehab/nursing facility. The mentality is "how little can we do and still pass State requirements. read more

We just came back from doing a 8 week therapy in house therapy program at Northwoods Lodge. My husband had a spinal rods and needed therapy to regain walking and movement. The team did a good job of getting him there. The place is very clean and staff is kind of robotic, but friendly. If they are asked for something they will obtain it for you. The discrepancy is that this place needs a lot more therapists to give much more therapy to the patients. Therapists also need to be more assertive in their positions like obtaining equipment for patients if needed. Seems to have to push them in what you need. My father was sent here by Group Health for rehabilitation after pneumonia (a complication of congestive heart failure, which he'd lived with for 7 years). During his first week, he had a stroke which was not discovered until morning. He was sent back to the hospital, then back to this facility. During his stay at this facility, he spent 90 percent of his time in bed. If you visit this facility, you will not see patients in the halls or up in their wheelchairs. He developed C-Diff, which was not caught until he became severely dehydrated, in spite of the fact that they had noted stomach issues. The facility told us it was possible that he had C-Diff, but did not have us take any precautions or tell us how serious it could be. The nurse manager wanted to transfer him out of their care due to a lack of progress. I told her that he had been sick so of course he could not progress. She told me his condition was terminal anyway. While the staff (the ones who do the real work) are very kind, the management would attempt to intimidate my mother and had her crying on a regular basis. Well, he's in a new facility, he gets to move around as he likes in his wheelchair, speak to other patients, and he is getting meaningful therapy - to the point where he may actually be able to come home. He's very much alive (thank God) and is improving daily. If you really care about your loved one, look further than the pretty setting. Don't send them here. read more
