I've seen these orthopedic surgeons for 45 years, starting when they were on Cherry Street in Bremerton. I broke my hand on a guy's head when he was resisting arrest. That was when I became a patient of Dr. Gorman. Recently, I had a serious motorcycle crash and was treated in the ER by Dr. Kessinger. Both surgeries went well, as did many post-surgical visits, including today. She takes the time to examine and speak in layman's terms. I had an accident resulting in a knee injury. My primary care is with Virginia Mason on Bainbridge Island, who were unable to see me for 2 weeks. I was fortunate to hear about Franciscan Orthopedics from a pickleball friend (Previously West Sound Orthopedics). I was efficiently worked into the schedule the same day! I had debilitating back pain for almost two years while working full time as an RN. I finally broke down after not being able to sleep from excruciating pain, and came to the Ortho Urgent Care here. The MA was incredibly rude, asking why I hadn't been to my PCP, (ummm because of COVID. They hadn't been seeing people in person.) Then I saw a doctor who asked me "Why, if you've been having pain for two years are you here in the ER?" (This is an ortho urgent care... not an ER.) I explained I was in unrelenting pain, and had foot drop. He did consent to do doing an X-ray, then he was somewhat nicer and referred me for an MRI. MRI showed disk prolapse with severe impingement on nerve roots. Neuro scheduled me for surgery five days out. read more

I would give them a minus rating if I could. The receptionist was rude when I called to make a follow up appointment for my father who had broken his neck. I was told by my fathers primary doctor that a referral had been sent to West Sound Orthopedics and that I should call immediately to schedule an appointment for follow up care. I immediately called and was told that he was denied. I was shocked and asked why? The receptionist curtly responded and said "the doctor denied him because he can". My father is a fragile 83 year old man who needs care. It is my hope that Dr. Shatsky does not get a taste of his own medicine when he is aged and vulnerable. read more

We have been seeing doctors here for 15 years at least. We have had nothing but good experiences. I had a knee replacement 5 years ago with Dr. Watters, and have probably seen every PA there in follow up or with new problems. My husband has also been seen there. I have friends who have had knee replacements and shoulder repairs through this office and with their doctors. All our interactions have been professional and respectful. I would highly recommend them to any of my friends/ family. read more

My Dr sent a referral, despite my insurance not requiring one to see a specialist. I waited a week and finally called them since I hadn't received a call. The receptionist was rude and terse in my communication with her. She claimed she had no referral under my name and that if they had received one she would have it. I requested an appt regardless and I'd have it resent. She said no. I asked her to double check the name to see if it was misspelled and she quickly replied that she spelled it right. I hung up and immediately called my Dr to request a referral to a different Dr in Poulsbo and was able to immediately schedule an appt. Fast forward two weeks and I just got a call from Westsound that they received my referral and want to schedule an appt. So clearly they had my original referral but claimed they did not from the beginning. It was meant to be however, as I'm so glad I don't need to deal with them moving forward after the 5 min I spent talking to their receptionist. read more

The staff is wonderful however they never seem to answer their phones regardless of what time you call.they need to have more people answering incoming calls or just do away with the phones all together.i have literally been kept on hold for an hour and a never get through to anyone. For me to get on here to say something is saying a lot... anyhow, here's my experience. June - Was scheduled for a June surgery. They gave me the wrong injection so they had to postpone 3 months. Sept- Been calling them daily after receiving notification from my insurer stating they're denying claim until they get more info. Left daily messages with doc's office to call insurer. They finally made an appt, on the last day allowed for appeals, with insurer to do a peer to peer call to approve my procedure. They missed the appt. No one even calls me. Insurer said they left two VMs. Things happen and I'm sure they're understaffed, but at least return my calls within 2-3 days. read more

I experienced a strength training injury that left my arms insanely swollen and difficult to raise two days later. I called to ask about urgent care which apparently no longer exists as it used to, but they do squeeze patients in as time allows if you're able to wait. I arrived just after opening and they were able to get me in to see Dr. McLaughlin within an hour. He ordered X-rays which ruled out any bone injuries, then urged me to get same day blood and urine labs to check for rhabdomyolosis, which I'd never heard of in 13 years of weightlifting! Turns out I did have a mild case of rhabdo which can be life threatening if not treated quickly and properly; I really appreciated getting a call from the doc that same day, even if it meant 2 weeks of rest and constant water intake. Dr. McLaughlin was friendly and answered my zillion questions in person and via MyChart. The front desk staff are also pleasant. Based on my two appointments here and the fact that Dr. McLaughlin likely saved my life (or at least my kidneys), I recommend Westsound Orthopaedics. read more

I would leave no stars if I could. My wife called and was told to come in to the urgent care to get seen for a torn ligament in her ankle and wrist right away so she could get in the system and get set up with a proper plan of care. After leaving work early to get there before they closed, upon entering inside, she was rudely turned away at the door. Apparently they're not really open during their open hours. My wife, who is in intense pain, now can't be seen. They were nothing but rude, and had no care for a potential patient who was in pain and needed help. My wife needed to be seen there because it's close to work because we live far away, and all they could say was she should one back on the weekend or go somewhere else. My wife left in tears, and we will not be going back to a place full of rude employees without heart- especially since now my wife my permanently suffer from this. read more

Instead I go to the counter and now I'm being re-scheduled. I had to pay out of pocket for a Taxi to get there and back. What a waste of my time & money. I've been seen twice by PA's at West Sound for worsening hip and knee pain. At my first visit I was told by the PA that he couldn't see me for both my hips & my knees on the same appt. I already had x-rays of my knees so he looked at them & said I wasn't a candidate for surgery. I told him I didn't want surgery. He didn't even check my knees for what was cause of the pain. He asked a few questions and again said I wasn't a candidate for surgery. This happened 3 times. I finally said I'd like to try cortisone injections because I had them in the past and they helped. He gave me the shots and as we were leaving he said we'd have to make an appointment with someone else if I wanted to come back. My husband and I just looked at him dumbfounded and then he said it was his last day. The shots never helped. A few months later my hips were so bad I cried when I tried to get out of bed. I made another appointment with another PA because you can't make a direct appointment with a medical doctor. She was very rude, discounted my pain after looking at my X-rays. I've have injections in my hips in the past that had helped. Instead she referred me to a physical therapist that specializes in "pelvic" pain such as endometritis. Worst physical therapist I've ever seen and after getting her 1 1/2 hour of evaluation done, admitted she didn't know why I was referred to her. All I want is to see an orthopedic DOCTOR, not a PA & not a PT. read more

I made an appointment with this office because I was referred to by a good friend that is a physician to speak and meet this Dr. Stacy who is supposed to be outstanding physician trauma doctor. I made an appointment with her office without any problems whatsoever, arriving to the office for the very first time the seating arrangement was quite confusing and difficult to understand as I waited in the front with other people in line to speak with somebody at the desk and my foot is killing me the entire time as I need surgery on his foot that is becoming required I've come to see Dr. Stacy Kissinger for a second opinion. I have informed their office about the second opinion before I even arrived because I had to make arrangements for their office to receive my full records from Dr. Lee's office, I was told to go have a take a seat after standing up for 15 to 20 minutes in line with other people because they were apparently in line for there a particular reason I was in line to check in. The lady at the desk asked me to go stand in a postmarked spot on the floor where I could be called upon when it was due time for my appointment, I did not want to stand I wanted to sit I asked her why can't I sit and she said if you said they will not know that you are waiting for your appointment. I'm thinking in my head this is really stupid because people that are in pain they have come to the office in need they have to stand in the front in a line in order to get service? The young lady in front was hiding behind her computer and I did not even know that she was even there so after my appointment time and practically everyone else that had been called upon or they left I did not want to stand so I chose to sit next to the posted sign with a mark on the floor and the girl never called me up for the appointment, she popped her head up and said oh sir did you have an appointment what time was that and I said like 10 minutes ago. She said I will let me get that corrected I said ma'am if you were paying attention I would be standing or sitting here for so long and you would've already brought me into your appointment but because you're hiding behind the computer you're not noticing the fact that there are people actually waiting. I would left the office and chose to go sit in my car and I called the manager and explain to her the situation but apparently because I'm so animated she found it to be offensive to her because of my explanation the situation with no curse words I only speak loud because I only can hear out of one ear 50% of that hearing I am extremely hard of hearing and deaf and I do talk loud and if I sound animated it's so that's how I sound inside my own head. I called her office today it's been like a month to see if I could reschedule the appointment and the manager insistently want to be on the phone to tell me how much of a poor behavior client! She told me I would not get an appointment so I chose to hang up and then the lady called me back to start shoot me out again I'm sorry I'm 52 years old and if you cannot understand the sufferings of a client by asking them to stand up and they feel offended and unappreciated coming to your office with this kind of act of oppression. It's bad enough we have to put up with all the Covid stuff it's another thing when we have to tolerate someone demanding that we stand in a certain spot in order to get heard! I disagree with the methods and the madness of their front office arrangement and whoever chose to set up the seating arrangement should ask for a second opinion of somebody who doesn't sit high on their horse thinking that they're above and beyond everyone else's ideas. I can see on Yelp that your office has two stars and that's amazing because from my understanding the doctor is awesome but it's the office that has a need for a makeover of behavior or treating patients like they are important or again like they're human beings and they have feelings and emotions not like the heartless manager did you can't explain anything to you because they sit so high up on the horse read more

I had a ganglion cyst removal on my wrist from dr koskella, 10 months later and the cyst came back, is bigger now, and has a terrible scar. Highly don't recommend because now I need to find another surgeon and have surgery again since I am on more pain than before I did this. read more

This just in! Yet another strike against Westsound Orthopaedics. Remember that they're owned by CHI Franciscan Health (if you look at the new business cards for WS employees, CHI Franciscan is highly prominent on the upper left hand side of the card. Westsound Orthopedics is now in tiny font right underneath the person's name.) When I made that ill-fated appointment at Westsound I was asked if I had recent x-rays of my knee and where they were taken. I answered that I did and told them where they had been taken. I was then instructed to have them put on disc and bring them to my appointment. Now, keep in mind that the medical imaging center where I had the x-rays done is also owned by CHI Franciscan Health. The main benefit to this is that all offices within this CHI network have access to each other's files. WS was aware of where I had had my x-rays taken but apparently the office was too lazy to take the time to access my files so they put the responsibility on me to bring them. What makes me think this? I just made an appointment with another orthopedic office owned by CHI. I was asked if I had recent x-rays and where they were taken. I gave the same answers I had given to WS and then said I have a disc because WS had asked me to do so and that I could bring it. I was told that wasn't necessary; they could bring up the xrays themselves since they were in the same network. . It was a bit of a hassle to get those x-rays burned to a CD and then to find out that they could've easily brought them up on a computer at the WS office and printed them out. Once again that, in my opinion, showed that WS is not a patient-oriented office, based on the way their actions toward me. read more

Sometimes the system just hangs up on me when I press 1 to talk to the appointments desk. Other times, the wait is 30+ minutes and I cannot hang on the phone that long. read more

This is the worse place to get an appointment. I been waiting for over a week now and still they haven't called me. When I ruptured a disc in my back, it took almost 3 weeks for them to call me and my appointment was another 3 weeks before I can be seen just to be told that I need to go to the pain clinic. What a waste of time. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. THIS is the worse place to get help for your injury. Call your doctor and tell him or her to send you somewhere else. Came on for an emergency check on my leg. Got X-rays and had the main orthopedic look at my leg. Worst experience I've ever had at any medical center. Urgent care had me answer the same questions 4 times by 4 different people and when the main doctor came to see me he said less then 10 words to me and walked out. Very rude and seemed like he didn't want to help anyone in any way. Would not recommend to anyone that is looking for a doctor who cares about their patients. read more

Dr Duff was arrogant in delivery and ignorant in practice. Our appointment began by him exclaiming, "oh my God!" as he viewed my hip x-ray. He validated that total hip replacement was my only option. He said that since I was only 47 that no surgeon would even consider doing a replacement on me. He said that the protocol was that total replacements were for people over 55 only. However, he inexplicably changed that number to 50 in the course of our appointment. When I asked his opinion on how I should cope during the next three years he replied, "use a cane if necessary and take Tylenol 2xs daily, that way you will sleep thru the night." FYI: In modern times, hip replacement surgery is done regularly and successfully on people under 55. Go to Swedish where they specialize in joint replacement. It's fast and professional, no drama. read more

Over the years I've interacted with four different WS physicians. One, the best, has died. A second, perhaps basically nice and proficient, I simply didn't connect with. The third spent much of the consultation repeatedly encouraging me to embrace God which, as an atheist, I found highly offensive not to mention worrisome for I want my surgeon to be grounded in science, not superstition. And the fourth was cold and the next thing to dismissive. The AA x-ray technician has been there for years and to my mind is the best thing about the place. It takes anywhere from 20-30 minutes to get ahold of them by phone. Went into office to make appt. They never run on time. I've been here 1hr 20min now. Have yet to see the doctor. I As soon as I'm approved by L&I I plan on telling them to stick it!! I WILL NOT RECCOMEND TO ANYONE!!!! I will however spread the word not to use them. I see thirty new people everyday . Been there twice....2 strikes so far! Saw Dr Cox (PA) the first time he was clueless. Saw Dr Sumerall this last time for back pain that I have had for years...x-ray taken and then he said it was just soft tissue not bone so he can't help me. I said well should I do anything or not do anything and he said don't do anything that will bother it...I said like standing, sitting, walking, or living? He just stood there looking at me as I was about to lose my composure and then walked out...I was like um are we done so I followed him and he went into his office. So I left...... I have never felt so helpless and insulted in my life! If they can't make money on surgery they don't want to help you. read more

Whatever anyone says their physical therapy is second to none. Neck injury, frozen shoulder, knee and ankle injury, wrist injury. All were treated very successfully. I have been to many PT providers all over the county and Westsound has been the most effective. Even if I ever do experience an inconvenience at the facility their PT department knows what they are doing. read more

At the request of an urgent care facility I brought my son in thinking that he may have a very rare and serious condition. We arrived and were able to get in quickly and have x-rays done. When the Dr. came in he made both my son and myself feel like we were wasting his time. Did not introduce himself, did not greet us with a hello, only said, "you do not have said condition, otherwise you would be screaming your head off, I'll have my sports medicine person come in and see if he can help". He was in the room for no more than 30 seconds. He came back 10 minutes later with the sports medicine person (who introduced himself to my son). Honestly, both of us wanted to walk out. I have never been seen less than 45 minutes beyond my appointment time. Dr. Duff has no clue in time management. They want you there 15 minutes before your appointment, but for a 10:30 appointment, I wasn't even called back to the exam room until 11:15. Then I received a lot of grief over "rules" post op which no one had ever given me. So, just remember there are many fish in the sea, avoid this group. read more

So, this is several months into a knee injury in which I was on crutches for 2 months and then walked with a cane for another month. I had an MRI done at West Sound Orthopedics in October. I was told that I have severe arthritis in my knee, there was nothing that could be done about it, it was degenerative, and that hopefully by the time I need replacement they will have come up with a cure. That was it. Nothing more was suggested. I hobbled around on crutches for another couple of weeks and called back to say that I was not improving. They sent me to PT. Thank goodness I started PT, because now, 3 months later, I am finally getting a bit better. I have since found out that I AM a candidate for injections and that I would have been saved a lot of stress and strain had I been told that to begin with. Since I limped on my knee for so many months, I have developed bursitis in my hip that is so painful it requires cortisone. This because the "doctor" that I saw didn't care enough about the patient to find a suitable solution and that it is truly unacceptable to send someone out of their clinic with nothing more than a shove and good luck. I was referred to Westsound Orthopaedics in September of 2016. I have a herniated disc in my lower back (L5/S1) which is pressing on my sciatic nerve causing pain all the way down the back of my left leg to my foot. Before I went I had an X-ray done at another facility. First appointment I was walking hunched over so they brought the wheelchair out for me. I had to get another X-Ray done there then make another appointment to meet with Dr. Shatsky who is supposed to be an Orthopedic Surgeon/Spinal Specialist. Next appointment I met with him briefly and he said I should have gotten an MRI before seeing him.?!? So, had to make another appointment to get an MRI done there. OK, got MRI done and then got another appointment to go over results with Dr. Shatsky. At that appointment he gave me the option of surgery or PT. I chose PT. The PT person I had did exactly the opposite of what Dr. Shatsky asked them to do so I was still walking hunched over. I quit going. I tried a Chiropractor which felt really good when I was there but when I left as soon as I sat in the car the pain resumed so I got a referral to the Pain Clinic. After receiving 3 steroid injections in my spine I can now stand upright but the pain still remains. I went back to Dr. Shatsky for a follow-up on Monday. I have fallen twice now and gone to the emergency room because of loss of bowel control but Dr. Shatsky didn't even want to listen. He was COLD, RUDE, ARROGANT, DISMISSIVE and DID NOT CARE to hear what had happened over the period of time. He just said since I did not complete my PT as directed (which she was causing more pain instead of helping and I was walking in hunched over and walking out the same way) but Dr. Shatsky did not CARE. He said I had to start PT all over again. Bottom line, I'm going to a different PT who is way better but I will not be returning to Dr. Shatsky, I have a referral to a different Orthopedic Surgeon in Gig Harbor. Keeping fingers crossed that he cares about his patients and listens to their concerns. By the way, all the appointments with Dr. Shatsky I had to get someone to drive me so made it that much worse.
