We tried Northwest Lumpia for the first time and were seriously impressed. While the exterior of the building may seem unassuming, the lumpia inside is some of the tastiest I've had. The lumpia come frozen in bags of a dozen, making them easy to store and cook whenever you're ready. We fried them at home and they turned out perfectly crispy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious - better than many restaurant lumpia we've had. Their vinegar and sweet sauces are also fantastic and pair perfectly with the lumpia. The banana turon were my favorite! The value is excellent for the quality and portion size, and I really appreciated their YouTube videos with clear, easy-to-follow cooking instructions. The process was completely foolproof, even for anyone new to frying lumpia at home. The only downside is their limited hours, which can make planning a bit tricky. We found this place from TikTok.  We were visiting Tacoma for the weekend and figured it was worth checking out.  It's a small place that can be easily missed     When we arrived, we learned this place was drive-thru only.   Not only that, not all items on the menu are available.  On Tuesdays, they post on their website what they will have for sale for the week.  At that point, you can pre-order and schedule to pick up on Friday or Saturday.  Of course, we didn't know this, but at least we had a small variety of 4 to choose from.      I ordered them to cook the lumpias and waited about 15 minutes.  I walked to the drive-thru window.  While waiting, we could see regulars going through drive-thru.  Other first timers had placed their order online, and it was their first time going there.  Like us, they parked and walked to the front asking where to go to pick up.      I talked to the owner for a little bit, and he told me that they opened in 2011.  They became a drive thru during covid and kept it that way since.       I ordered: 1.  Angel's original:  I thought this was a weird mix than I'm traditionally used to.   It tastes pretty good.   It's a twist on the  vegetable lumpia I'm used to.  I liked that it was meaty. 2.  Taco mix:   I'm not going to lie. This one kind of scared me too, lol.   The owner told me it was like a taco just wrapped up.  When I took a bite, it reminded me of the frozen red bean burrito I used to buy as a kid.   I didn't see the refried beans, but I did see the meat with each bite.            The items we tried were a hit.  Now I know next time to pre-order.  I got lucky we arrived a day early.  We were able to come on Friday, and they had items still available.   I looked on the website today, and they only had teriyaki (ground chicken).  Which is funny because they didn't have that yesterday.  In any case, that's the only one to choose from today.  So if you decide to go here, please pre-order.  You'll thank me later read more

Northwest Lumpia is a little spot amongst older industrial buildings and warehouses. I always pass by but it's always closed due to the short hours Friday/saturday 11-2. Today was my lucky day and saw an open sign! Usually I make lumpia at home for my family to enjoy, but I wanted to try this place out and support a local business~ The owner at the window was friendly and informative. I decided to order the original pack and fry at home. You have the choice to order hot and fresh there but will have to wait about 15min, order a frozen pack and zoom on home to fry it up! It was $14 and some change for the pack and I was eager to try!! When you've had lumpia all your life there's just something about it being home made that is comforting and the taste is always good! Today's taste left me a little mixed honestly. While the owner is so nice, the lumpia was not very good. If you've never had lumpia, there's nothing to compare it to and you may like this indeed. The original lumpia tasted somewhat sour and bitter? There is little chunks of carrot, peas, beef and what looks to be like shredded hashbrown potatoes that were a bit crunchy/undercooked. There's a sour taste to it but not vinegary, sour as in spoiled taste. The sauces were mmm not so good. One is a vinegary sauce and the other a sweet sauce almost similar to teriyaki...but they both had an underlining same flavor. I remember when you could go inside for lunch! This lumpia is still the best I have found. I love so many flavors there. And would you guess that taco lumpia is a thing or that it would be AMAZING?! Ordering ahead is now the way and you can get them frozen for later frying yourself or freshly fried at the window. You drive around to the window to pick up at your designated time. You can also risk just driving up and ordering but they may be out of everything and you'll have to pull into a waiting spot after and drive through again when it's ready. Found this place at the last minute! Needed to bring a dish to a holiday party and what better Filipino food dish to bring than lumpia? Upon arrival, it seemed like the most random spot to have a food venue in its location. There's no other restaurants in the area and it's mostly industrial buildings. We opted for the cooked lumpia which was a dozen per pack. We bought two packs; one beef and one pork flavor. Both came with a dipping sauce and we were very impressed. We didn't call ahead so we had to wait about 15min (they cook them fresh). They have no drinks so we used that time to run down to the gas station for drinks. Thank you Yelpers for leading me to this wonderful place and these lovely people. We were on our way from the airport to Portland and found this place in Tacoma on our way through. We were looking for something good (of course), but different and new. This checked all of the boxes and then some! The food is great, but Chuck and Becca are fantastic. They are a husband and wife duo, who choose to do this as their retirement (lucky for all of us)! Chuck is a retired veteran and Becca a former nurse. Together, they will brighten your day and fill your tummy. It rounds out the whole experience. It is a cozy place with only a few tables. Lumpia are super portable though, and they package them so you can move and share (or not). There were quite a few faithful fans picking some up for lunch. While we sat there and ate, a young woman came in with her parents. She was happy to announce that although she was getting a refer a friend star for their rewards program, she was the one doing her parents a favor by introducing them to this wonderful place. I had never had lumpia before, so this was a first. The owner described it best. They are the Filipino version of the egg roll. They make them fresh and they love to experiment with the filling that goes inside. They come out tantalizingly crispy and hot. Despite the fact you know it is a bad idea, your mouth overrules you and takes a bite despite risking molten mouth (totally worth it). If you are with others, I highly suggest getting a combo 1 so you can try a variety of flavors. They are delicious!! I also recommend getting the banana for dessert. What a hidden gem! This small mom and pop shop specializes in fusion lumpia. You can get a dozen for $10 and they have awesome flavors like adobo mix, sweet and sour and even brown sugared banana. There are two combos (12 for $10 or $4.50 for lumpias and a drink). You can also buy the lumpia individually for $1 + tax. You can take it to go or eat it in their shop. It's a pretty no frills experience. The staff is super nice, but the only downside is that they're only open from 11-2pm M-F! Wish they were open on the weekends too. I've been really wanting to go to Northwest Lumpia for a while but their hours weren't compatible with my hours for my job and then after covid-19 arrived this place was only open on Saturday which eventually I made it happen. During normal times it looks like you could order lumpia and dine at their location but with the pandemic going on they only have a drive up in which you can order cooked lumpia or take a package home to cook at home. Directions are provided as to how and what you need to do if you do get the uncooked lumpia in which there is more than one option to go about it. There are quite a few different fillings you can have with your lumpia including one that is on the sweeter side for dessert but I went with the original filling of ground beef, peas, carrots and potatoes. We thawed and baked them at home and they were outstanding! We got some dipping sauces as well which made the lumpia disappear in no time at all. After moving to Tacoma, it took a matter of weeks before my husband spotted this place and quickly decided it was a must to visit. This place instantly became my jam! If you're ever hit with a craving for fried spring rolls, check this place out. We drive by ALL the time, but usually they are closed. My husband and I literally made a u-turn the first time we saw it open and ordered a variety. You can pick from different ground meat: chicken, beef, or pork. They have vegetarian options too. The stuffings and seasonings were so tasty and I was happy that they didn't all taste the same, like some places do. They also gave us a variety of sauces for dipping. SO GOOD & AFFORDABLE! I've had the "Original, Angel's Favorite, Adobo, Becca's Favorite, Guava & Cheese & Brown Sugared Banana" flavors. My all time fav would be "Angel's Original" perfect balance of salty, slight vinegary & sweet flavor. The skin of all the lumpia was perfectly crunchy & not too thick. Dessert lumpia was great too! Nothing but lumpia is sold here! No hamburgers, no hot dogs, no adobo, no vegetables except whatever is inside the lumpia. Just lumpia to wet your lips! The process is very simple. You either select which combo you want or just buy each lumpia roll sold individually by the $1. You can mix & match your flavored lumpia. Drinks are sold by the can. My picks are the traditional Filipino lumpia (Angel's Original) and the Taco Mix. The Taco Mix is basically taco seasoned meat and deep fried. Very similar to a crisp burrito. My brother liked the Mojo Crillo which is a interpretation of the Cuban pulled pork sandwich and the Siopao Mix which is slightly sweet but very similar to eating the Filipino steamed bun. I had lumpia that were either rolled to skinny or rolled some that no longer looked like lumpia but fat sized burritos. Not that eating a lumpia that was the size of a burrito was a bad thing but it just didn't look consistent with the other rolls that I had done. So my first time making lumpia had a mixture of lumpia sized lumpia, some were like tequitas (long & skinny) and then you had the fat boy sized burritos. Guess which ones were eaten first? Yeah, no one ever complained about the burrito sized lumpia. Location is on the deep end of Center St. heading down towards down-town Tacoma. It's a small cute looking green building snuggled in between two businesses. Yeah, I said "cute" because it is! Probably, the only thing I would like to have with my lumpia is rice. No big deal. If you live in Tacoma or within 20 miles, this is a must go to!!! 4th of July and I have had my heart set on Lumpia and trying this place I stumbled upon searching Lumpia recipes. They were opened only 1-4pm due to Covid and only open 1 day a week. I was thrilled to go on the right day, Saturday's!!! The Lumpia was frozen. You take it home and fry it. Normally you can buy it cooked but the service now if very limited. This family owned business made my first experience so personal and really were warm and friendly. The man inputting orders was so nice in making sure he got everything in a timely manner, but still giving every customer the time of day with their rewards system and some feedback if they had questions. They are open only during lunch time and may run out of flavors. They have 12 different choices with one changing every week. I have tried 8 of them so far and have not been dissapointed. Two options, 4 piece or 12 piece and you can mix and match. Go with 12. Trust me on this. 4 is not enough. I have been there twice so far and will be back. Interesting little place to get lumpia if you can make it during their limited hours they are open. I have tried all of their flavors and find some of them taste the same. So I couldn't tell you which one is my favorite. I do like them all though! Lumpia here is definitely more of a Shanghai style and skinny.
