I highly recommend Jason and Chinook Dirtworks and I plan to call upon them again. Jason's…read morecraftmanship, attention to details, and pride, truly shines though in his work. These are values I look for and appreciate! Earlier this year I noticed some damage on a support log in my pavilion. When you knock on a log and it sounds hollow, like a ripe watermelon, you know you have an issue. All Summer I've been getting bids from local contractors to fix this support log. Some contractors were simply too busy to respond and those that did had ALL SORTS of ideas on how to fix the support log. I am by no means an expert but some of the "game plans" were way out there and everyone said it was a 2-3-day project, probably 3 or 4 guys and $$$$. ..and one needed to rent a jack hammer. The name that kept popping up when I would ask around was Chinook Dirtworks.. Jason from Chinook Dirtworks came out, looked at the support log in the pavilion and said, "I can replace the log". I was SHOCKED! What a simple idea (and what I was hoping for). "BUT, I am booked out until Nov." he said, "and I need to find a log." A day or so later I received the quote. The price seemed fair, the approach seemed logical, I signed it, and sent it back. About a week later I emailed Chinook Dirtworks to see when in Nov I might be on the books (it's Sept). To my surprise, they could start on Monday. They moved some things around (and rain was scheduled) so if I'm ready, they can get to it early. I'm sure some serious prep work went into preparing the Douglas Fir log before it arrived to my house in the bed of Jason's truck, and it was a beautiful log. It took Jason and one other guy a few hours to cut and unbolt the old log and trim the replacement log. Jason showed true pride in his work, making sure the cuts fit flush with the other parts of the structure. When it came time to stain the log, I knew it couldn't be a perfect match. The previous owner built the structure about 20 years ago and I had no clue what stain was used. The first can of stain was too brown, I didn't have to mention that, Jason wasn't happy with the color either and was going to head to the store to try another shade. That's when my SIL suggested a clear stain. I kinda liked the idea and thought if I end up not liking, I can work on finding a stain next summer. As the guys applied the clear stain to the log, it brought out all the beautiful details of the wood. I love the clear stain and I couldn't be happier with my new support log. Aside from moving large amounts of dirt or frame a garage, Chinook Dirtworks seems open to some smaller jobs too and they can replace a support log! I appreciate that Jason and Bobbie Sue were able to squeeze my smaller project into their schedule. I love my beautiful new support log.
