Visited the Northwest Cary Y for the first time while in the area killing time. Upon arrival I told the front desk it was my first visit. I wish there was a value add, such as a tour offered since it was my first time or even a brief description of the gym setup. The indoor track was nice. There are a variety of strength training equipment located throughout the gym space and not just in one area. I liked how things were spaced out with the opportunity to even be away from crowds. All the machines seemed well kept up and the space was clean. Once upstairs near the cardio machines I couldn't find the towel booth and honestly there wasn't anyone available to ask. The staff here seem pretty hands-off and extremely involved in socializing with each other, I guess this is the norm. read more

I went here to swim while I was in town. I was told my membership would work. But it turns out I couldn't log into heir system and reserve a swim lane. Luckily the lady at the front booth was nice and let me take a lane. But I had to shorten my workout. Unfortunately the shallow end is so shallow. I could barely turn. read more

I came here when my home YMCA was being renovated. I took a yoga class in a yoga Lotties class, and both were really good. The instructors are very knowledgeable and supportive. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. There is a very large lobby with comfortable seating and very clean locker rooms with separate dressing rooms, and showers. Equipment is updated and in good condition- overall a great experience and highly recommend. read more

So far I have been highly impressed with most of the staff here who are very friendly. I have tried all sorts of new workout classes like gentle yoga and body pump. The instructors are the best! I recently completed a 7 day trial at this YMCA, and I left very impressed. It is located on Carpenter Fire Station rd a couple blocks from Hway 55. They have ample parking and it loops around to their outdoor pool. According to a Staff member, it has been open for 5 years and they have a working agreement with the Crosspoint church regarding daycare/camps. Awesome option for the local families! Now to the Y's fitness offerings. Again, I can not stress how impressed I was with the following: 1st floor-2 intake desks Staffed with friendly faces, 2 training studios (One complete with Spin bikes) 3 nicely appointed Locker rooms (M, Female, Family). Male has 2 saunas (Wet and Dry), Lockeroom exits to an Outdoor pool, Soccer and baseball fields behind the pool. Phew-Onto the 2nd floor-Soft track (12 laps=1 mile) cardio on the outside of the track overlooking a garden, cardio, weights, machines inside the track and all kinds of windows and architectural character. Fee schedule is in my pictures and consistent with pricing in the area. Classes are plentiful and must be signed up for 48 hours in advance. Also, a Y membership gives its members the option of utilizing the other triangle locations. Impressive. Thanks for the trial. read more

I had a very disappointing experience during my visit. I took my mother as a guest, but the first time, I forgot to bring her passport, which is her valid ID as a visitor in the USA, and she wasn't allowed entry because of this. On another occasion, when I brought her in the evening, the receptionist told me the office was closed. I explained that she is elderly and had motivated her a lot to come to the gym, but after much persuasion, I was still told nothing could be done. As a member, I should be able to bring guests at least once a year, but the receptionist refused to help. It was frustrating to have this genuine membership privilege denied for what seemed like an illogical reason. Interestingly, I didn't face any issues at another branch, where I simply filled out the guest form, and my mother was allowed to use the facility. The staff there was much more courteous and cordial. read more

The NW Cary YMCA is an extremely clean, friendly, new and modern facility. The faculty and group exercise instructors are very warm and welcoming. I really love how the upstairs weight and cardio area has gigantic windows, which creates a very open, airy feeling. It never feels stuffy inside. I love attending the classes. So far I've tried Pilates, Spin, Yoga, Step, Total Body Strength and Pound just to name a few. I'm also a big fan of using the sauna in the women/s restroom. Membership prices are also very affordable compared to other local surrounding gyms. The only things I wish that could be different about this place are the hours of operation for Sunday and better sauna etiquette in the womens restroom. The facility is only open from 2pm-7pm, and I wish it would open maybe an hour or so sooner. Also the ladies in the women's bathroom do not always follow proper sauna etiquette. There are many ladies in there sitting on the benches with their shoes/sweaty workout clothes on, and I wish they would follow the sauna protocol because nobody wants to be in a hot sauna with somebody's dirty gym shoes or sweaty clothes. As of 6/10/18- I decided to go from a 4 star review, to a 3 star review due to the harassment of women wearing crop tops. It's a double standard if you let men play basketball here shirtless, but a woman can't wear a crop top while she works out. Totally unacceptable. read more

The facility itself is absolutely beautiful. The equipment can be upgraded but still is functional. The 2-Stars is because of the front desk receptionist Lori. Here is the backstory: I have been an active member since 2018. I'm on the family plan. I traveled a lot so I have the national membership so I can attend all YMCAs with no issue. I just moved to the Cary area January 2021 and wanted to try the facility. Here's how my interaction went with Lori: I come to the facility and the staff initially were welcoming. I showed that I have a national membership because it requires staff to check me in from another screen on their computer. This is when everything went left. These are the exact questions Lori asked me and this ALL happened before even presenting my tag to check-in. - Where are you moving from? * Told her home gym, but I did intensive travel pre-covid which is the reason for national membership. - Which plan are you on? * Told her I was on the Family Plan. - How old are you? * Such an odd question to ask, but I told her I'm 30. Once I told her my age, her demeanor changed. - Are you using the family plan as a dependent? * It bothered me that she assumed I was trying to "trick" the system but made it very clear that I was the second adult on the plan. If she took the time to scan my card, she would see my information on my profile. She then proceeds to tell me how Corporate will eventually shut down my card access because of how often I traveled to other YMCAs compared to using my home gym. She encouraged that since I moved to Cary I get the single-membership and how its only $48 a month. To be very clear, I had all intention of changing my membership, but I wanted to try to new facility first to determine which location will be my new home gym. When going to other YMCA check-ins the process is so quick. Lori held me up with her interrogating questions for 5 minutes. Her assumptions and horrible welcoming threw off my concentration at the gym. So I now prefer to travel 30 minutes out to other YMCAs than go two minutes up the street to NorthWest Cary because of this experience. Beautiful facility but customer service is an issue here and I can tell by referencing the other low reviews! read more

The management are rude and arrogant. The classes are marginal. No comradere by instructors. The entire attitude of the facility staff is marginal at best. I was kicked out for wring shoes. I've been going to this YMCA for about 6 months now and even though it's a LITTLE further out than our old gym, it's much cleaner with new equipment, which makes the extra drive worth it. The employees are always friendly and there's a wide range of classes you can join without signing up for. I do have a few comments that I think would make this YMCA location even better: more treadmills, more low-weight dumb bells and BETTER YOGA MATS! This location gets very crowded after work hours, and it's often very hard to find a treadmill. Considering the amount of people who come here, I think they should invest in a few more treadmills. I do think it'd make a difference. Oftentimes, I have to wait for others to put back the lighter dumbbells because those are very popular. If there were more 5-15 lb dumbbells, I think it'd be better for everyone. Finally, PLEASE UPGRADE THE YOGA MATS. There's no denying it. These yoga mats SUCK. They're super flimsy and the material is literally crumbling off because it's a cheap thin foam. Everyone knows it, because you walk around and anyone doing floor workouts has 2 to 3 yoga mats stacked atop each other to try to make a somewhat decent cushion to the ground. read more

Would not recommend this gym if you are an adult trying to work out. 90% of the people consist of teenagers fooling around. Had multiple instances where kids bump into me while squatting or grabbing the weights off the bar that I'm busy with. Old/Rusted equipment. None of the bench, squat & deadlift bars have grip left in them. read more

l have been a member for over a year, frequently visit several different locations, i invariably feel welcomed the minute I walk in, the staff feels genuine, friendly and enthusiastic, that's with the exception of the North West branch, they are the complete opposite. they are also inflexible when it comes to punctuality to attend the group classes, if you are one minute late they will turn you down, they have even turned me down when I got there two minutes before the class start, it is frustrating having to race the clock to make it there just to be turned around because you are one minute late. Never had problems at any other YMCA until I walked in here wearing sports leggings and a matching crop top. The last thing I was thinking about was my "distracting" outfit going in to better myself at the gym. I was told to leave immediately after getting there in front of multiple people. Lovely rustic yet modern design to this new Ymca This amazing coffee bar area in the front door ...no better way to be welcomed to the gym The childcare area looks fantastic ( although I no longer need this area I did get nosy to leave a review lol) The game room for older kiddos is so fun ! The fitness rooms are large with plenty of equipment and the spin class is 10!!! You can watch a virtual screen of riding while the instructor gives direction. You can not cheat or wimp out due to this cool computer on bikes that turns colors for effort while riding I loved it ! This is a brand new YMCA in Cary. The location is pretty convenient for Morrisville and northern Cary residents. They have a coffee shop inside and I think three different group fitness class rooms (yoga, dance/weights, and cycle). I didn't think I would be into Bollywood classes but it was so much fun! They also have coach by color classes for cycle which really works best when paired with a heart monitor. Yoga ‍ hasn't been a win for me there, yet. It's way too fast and not flow-y (three people simply left class the other night. As new people, it must have been too hard for them.) The pool isn't yet opened, as of this posting. They didn't winterize it but they assured me it would be opened in summer. The gym has been busy this January, as most gyms are. Upstairs there are the large ropes, medicine balls, TRX, universal weights, free weights and rowing (and more).They also give you free coaching connections sessions - take advantage, they are so helpful. They have a sauna & steam room and full locker room & also extra lockers that don't require a lock and can be used easily while you are working out (pictured). read more

I'm pretty much a regular at this YMCA and I love the place. When you check in, you're greeted by really nice employees. Bridgett always makes you feel welcome. You can either trade your keys with a locker key in the locker rooms or if you don't have much to store, you can always use one of the many combination locks on first and second floor. This YMCA boasts many amenities from an outdoor pool to classes and an indoor track for walking and running. I spend most of my time on the 2nd floor in the workout area working on those gains. YMCA has something for everyone! read more

Wonderful clean state of the art facility with an open air feel, comfortable and welcoming atmosphere, and a Christian set of values that's not in your face but is there as a guide to make it a safe, friendly, and moral place, even if you're not Christian or religious for that matter. People are respectful of one another, people are considerate of one another, and people don't dress like tramps. read more

This is such a family friendly place; the staff is kind and friendly to everyone. The machines and equipment are clean, and the workout areas are spacious. My children love the childcare as the workers are fun and change out the activities so they always do different things there. They offer a variety of classes with encouraging instructors. I like this YMCA a lot and have had wonderful experiences with childcare and camp staff, etc. The women's locker room is incredible, the facility is immaculate and I LOVE the high ceilings/airy feeling, the courtyard and pool area...the rooms for children. Everything! I particularly love all of the windows and that I can view a wooded area outside while doing cardio. I do agree with others, however, who have mentioned the "fish bowl" feel/layout....seems like your line of vision to to watch, at least notice, others exercising. Someone also mentioned that they were asked to leave because of a "distracting" outfit... I wasn't there to notice this exchange or weigh in personally and specifically, but have some general thoughts. A lot of beautiful women of varying ages, shapes and sizes attend. I am a woman, as well!! And I am a petite build/love me some stretchy pants, for instance. However, I have noticed quite a few tight midrif shirts with especially tight pants or very short shorts and tiny shirts etc., and have thought to myself... "Man, I think the YMCA has exposed to me an array of body types that are beautiful and women from different places, with differing features, who are quite lovely. It must be very difficult for men to guard their eyes in a place like this!" These athletic oufits can be quite sensual in how much they reveal, honestly. If anything, I think my observations have affirmed that there is "no one way to look attractive." While I have always been petite, I grew up thinking my closest friends with curves were far more feminine looking and attractive than myself!!! Of course, they said the same about my more "sporty" frame. Again, I think the layout that makes it impossible to not notice, creates a display for whatever bodies are walking through. And the modern yoga outfits can be pretty sensual in texture, drape, etc. Lastly, women tend to be hardest on themselves, so it's quite likely you ladies are much more attractive than you realize!
