Definitely the Best Y in Raleigh. Gym is big enough and having a track is better than having to run on the treadmill.

Plenty of room in that area so I could not have to work around people. After, the showers were good. I like the "double" stall where I could change and then get right into the shower. Hot water worked well enough but the pressure is low. The shower seemed clean enough to me though I think both curtains need to be replaced. Overall, a good spot and I was glad to stop here. Or they stand around and talk while their friend is sitting and not working out. if you say something to the front staff, they're like there's nothing we can do about it. I've complained more than once. I'm over it. The new machines are awkward and set up very weird. Where they used to have say for back twist machines now they only have one so you have to wait. A lot of the leg machines are broken already even though they're brand new and have temporary signs on them. I don't care for the new leg machines where you push in or pull out. It's one machine and it's obviously fit for somebody who's over 6 foot tall very awkward. i'm going to find a new home location.

I live about 25-30 minutes away so I'll have to figure it out! So far I think I can make this work! Sanitation wise, it's super clean and after the first class I wasn't worried at all! They've gone above and beyond to ensure that they provide a safe and clean place! This is my first time working out with a format like this! You are put through 5 different workouts that's perfectly timed, based on what the focus of the day is Momentum, Anaerobic and Durability. You are walked through the proper form for each exercise then you identify the level you wish to rotate through. I'm not the fittest but I'm working on it and so right now, I'm using the lightest weights but I can definitely work my way up. The workout is tough and you push and work! The instructor is there watching so that if they need to correct your form they do! It feels amazing after and although I'm sore, I'm never at the point to where I can't go back after a rest day!

MADabolic is great! I've taken classes so far with Emily, Sarah and Alli so far and everybody is…read morereally friendly and willing to help out with anything you might need. There's generally 3 different types of classes at MADabolic - Momentum/Anaerobic/Durability which just have a different work to rest ratio. As much as people like throwing out the phrase HIIT, MADabolic is the gym I've found that actually does the closest to applying this. Also, a unique thing about MADabolic is that it incorporates boxing into their workouts so make sure you bring boxing gloves. It's definitely a nice change of pace to be able to hit a bag once in a while. My one complaint if any is that the description of the classes leads you to believe that it goes 50 minutes but sometimes you can be in and out of there a lot quicker than that (35-40 minutes). But the workouts are tough so it feels like you were there for a lot longer! Just a nit pik thing for people who would really care. Also will note that unlike other class-based gyms where you can sort of drop in as you like and it won't make that big of a difference, MADabolic is mostly set up for you to go consistently (I think 4-5x a week is what's recommended?) I only go to MADabolic once a month because I mostly run/cycle and go to another gym near my house and use MADabolic as something to switch up the routine once in a while. If you're looking for consistent results, you probably should go more often than I do haha. Otherwise, I've enjoyed MADabolic and you should check it out if you're around downtown Raleigh!

I am personally a YMCA girl because I…read moreprefer group fitness classes instead of just doing treadmill & weights, etc. I mainly joined for my kiddo because this location is closer to our home than the Y. We NEVER used the gym but I was a member for months. Don't judge me. Lol! When I went in to join, the staff just gave me a tablet to join. They didn't help whatsoever. So, you can join from home if you're not trying to workout immediately after joining. There is plenty of parking available. The issue I had was when I decided to cancel, they make that part difficult. You can join online but you have to cancel in person or write/mail a letter. I went to the gym to cancel & 1 poor little guy that they had working had to juggle me while checking in other members and trying to sale protein shakes to a few others. He was all alone up there at the busiest time of the day. He handled it like a champ though! Kuddos go him. He cancelled our memberships & emailed me confirmation immediately. If you're looking for a gym that's not going to break your pockets, I recommend this one. If you like group exercise (ie. Dance classes, yoga, etc), this isn't it.

It's over crowded, no free weights and something is always broken. But that's not why I'm writing. I've been co Ing here for 15 years and they have yet to do something about controlling the sickening smells from the men's bathroom. You can smell it in and out. Invest in ventilation

His positivity and encouragement make someone who dislikes the gym look forward to training sessions. Chris and his wife, Leslye, own the business and I love that I'm supporting a small business as the owner of a small business too. This is a great option for those who want one-on-one training without the fuss and "scene" of a bigger gym, where you have to pay monthly membership fees. This cuts away the crap - and just focuses on YOU and what you want to achieve. They have YEARS of experience doing this and remain passionate about fitness. There are two additional trainers there: Dawn (female) and Ashley (male). Let them know if you have a preference when you call to make an appointment! They have group fitness options as well, I simply stick to the single option because it's proven to work best for my lifestyle and personality. The stand-alone facility is the perfect size property off of Glenwood South in downtown Raleigh, easy to get to (I walk when the weather is favorable from my downtown Raleigh apartment and drive when it's cold - there's plenty of parking there) and they have had some clients for 10+ years. It's just a testament to the "family" atmosphere they've created and strive to maintain year after year. I definitely recommend Personally Fit if you want an individualized fitness plan.

I've worked with good trainers and bad trainers and the biggest difference is if they're listening to you, your workout will be more targeted, more effective, and you won't get hurt.
