People talk about that place they used to go to where the staff knew their stuff. They cared about the work they did. They were friendly and helpful. They took care of you and your stuff while you were there. It's a rare thing to find. I brought my 2003 Econoline van in for service here. It had been sitting mostly idle for six months after driving it cross country. This vehicle has been through a lot over the years. After getting it back it drives better than it has in years. The perfect place to go if you want to spend more money on them looking at ur car then actually fixing anything and if there is something to fix expect to pay an extra couple thousand. Just call a local shop and make an appointment a few months out, theres a reason all the other auto shops are booked up for weeks and you can get in next day here. read more

Rotten. I do NOT recommend this place. After I they "worked" on my Toyota for a day and it still didn't work, I had it towed to my home where the AAA driver checked. All parts that my receipt said were new were old, covered in black grit and grease and didn't work properly. He offered to tow me elsewhere where the new shop charged me about $35 for a belt. Surprise ! the rotten shop had installed an old ratty one that broke immediately. Finally, my car worked ! For $35, not $700. And I had a new belt. I had already spent over $700 on car repair at the rotten shop. I do not trust this company any more. A good friend had work done there and was thrilled. It may have been due to the fact that the owner is a good friend of her son and they actually gave him new parts. read more

I recently had to replace the complete engine in my 1999 Mustang GT. After selecting the engine remanufacturing company I next needed to find a local shop to install the engine, Being very new to the Longview area I had no idea where to go, so I started looking for shops using Google and making calls to the various shops in the area. I even called the local Ford dealership fully knowing it would be the most expensive. One of my calls was to Northwest Auto Specialist I spoke with a lady named Terri? She had no trouble giving me a quote for the job within a very short time. After our conversation I decided to make a visit to their shop and take a look around. I made an unannounced visit and found the shop clean and orderly, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I spoke to two technicians and to Terri, who with her husband owe the business. I felt comfortable with them doing the install and made arrangements to have the new engine drop-shipped to their shop. A few days later Terri called to let me know the engine arrived, so we scheduled the date for me to drop the car off. They had the car about a week and half a little longer than we had discussed, but Terri was very good about calling me with progress on the install. I had left instructions for them to look everything over and advise me of anything questionable as I wanted to do a very complete job. I visited the shop once during the process and Darrel the tech working on the project went over everything with me they had found and replaced while installing the new engine. The next day I got a call the car was ready for pickup. When I arrived to pickup the car it was clean and ready for me to drive away, after paying the bill of course. Terri went over the complete bill with explaining in detail all the charges. They were all in line with what we had discussed before dropping off the car. There were three additional item changed all of which I authorised via phone when they called. There were no "surprises". BTW the shop labor rate was the best of the places I called before deciding to use them for the project. The car is running like new thanks to Darrel's fine work installing the new engine. I do not hesitate recommending this shop to anyone needing quality auto repairs and maintence done to their vehicle(s). read more

On 8/26/15, while on a road trip to California, our power steering cut out. We stopped at the Ford dealership in Longview, WA and they were unable to help us - a customer recommended we try NW Auto Specialist and we did. They were able to get us in right away since we were on the road, they evaluated our vehicle for free and because we were under warranty recommended we go to the Ford dealership in Vancouver so it would be free. While traveling from Portland to Seattle my battery light came on and I had to google an automotive place ASAP. I called NW Auto Specialists and Terry welcomed me in. In about 7 minutes, they identified the problem (alternator) Because I couldn't stay in Longview, I had to make other arrangements. Darryl was kind enough to fully charge my battery which gave me a few more miles towards my destination. They were aware I couldn't do business with them, but treated me like my hometown mechanic. If i could give them a 10 i would. I have taken many cars and my pickup to them. My pickup had a funky shift from first to second when i purchased my pickup from a private party his mechanic said there was a servo problem in the valve body of the transmission. "WRONG DIAGNOSIS, & RUDE" I have a 2003 VW Jetta TDI which starts to shake a bit under load around 25 to 38 MPH. Dick Hanna said that the drive axles needed replacement (they had Play) and stand behind their Diagnosis. Since I live so far away I took the car to North West Auto Specialist's. They are in Longview were I live and also were a bit cheaper. Told Terri the issue and diagnosis from the dealership. Asked her if they stand behind their Diagnosis, she said they do. Terri calls me back and says it was the ENGINE TORQUE STRUT. (Dogbone pendulum mount) So being a trusting person I said OK, what if its not that. Terri was quite confident it was the issue and said it was a CHEAPER FIX. So they replaced the part and it still has the Shake. Check out You Tube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyprDHtnDZc. A 20 minute FIX. A 60.00 dollar Part. $300.00. So when I went to pick up the car today, I told her I was disappointed, she offered to remove the part. Since it's the weekend and I need my car for WORK, I opted to just take it and go back to the dealership. "At least I can semi-trust them". NW Auto could have at least not charged me for labor for the (BAD DIAGNOSIS) but Terri got real SNIPPY with me and I didn't want to argue with her. I don't think they will stand behind their diagnosis, I think they use Google way to much. They charged me basically $300.00 for a Dogbone pendulum mount. Just be careful with this company, they might diagnosis one thing its its ends up being another, and you might get over charged with these folks. I'd recommend taking your car somewhere else and stay away from North West Auto Specialists. read more

I just took my truck to Rainier RV to troubleshoot my trailer brake controller. I discovered my trailer brakes were not working last year when a guy stopped in front of me on the freeway and I rear ended him.They found the problem. Told me somebody switched the 30 amp brake controller fuse for a blank in the fuse box under the hood. Said probably somebody from the Chevy dealership did it when I had it in for servicing. The only place my truck has been worked on since the last time my brake controller was working was Northwest Auto Specialists. Fuses don't just switch by themselves. My only conclusion can be that somebody at Northwest Auto Specialists switched the fuses. My wife thinks they did it intentionally, drum up more business. There is no doubt in my mind, now, that that somebody at this shop switch my brake controller fuse while my truck was there for new belts and hoses two years ago. read more
