Spot Free HVAC Air Services - Carrier Heat Pump 37MURA install in Castro Valley Ca

    Spot Free HVAC Air Services

The quoted price for a two-head unit with external pump was in line or lower than the competing bids, backed by an extended multi-year warranty as Mitsubishi Diamond Certified installers. Heat pumps installed alongside existing central air is not an uncommon request, but we had a great conversation with Brook on how we might update to a more modern system in the future, given our original(!) furnace's age. Side questions for him aside, we had a thoughtfully sized system outlined and quoted within a day, and scheduled within two weeks. Our experience with the installation was similarly great, with the team arriving promptly as scheduled and taking the care to put on shoe coverings moving through the house. Everyone was polite and efficient, bringing the plan to life and bringing us in early when there were onsite decisions to be made in our unique spaces. When an issue arose on the cooling not blowing as cold as we had expected, they were quick to assist with troubleshooting, and had it fully remediating within the week. Permits are still pending due to the Oakland backlog, but their lead electrician will also be onsite during the inspection process so I have no worries there. While our immediate need during the heat wave this Spring was cooling our living spaces, I have full confidence that whenever we go to multizone heating and cooling, Spot Free will be our go-to experts!

I received 3 quotes for our HVAC work:…read more- Spot Free: $21K - Vendor we used: $23K - Another vendor who we used before and were happy with but increased their pricing recently: $32K We decided not to go with Spot Free for 2 reasons. First, the heat pump brand was changed in the quote to one that we did not want (Carrier). We were replacing it due to leakage of carbon monoxide. This is obviously a safety concern for us, but also a peace of mind issue. We had discussed using Carrier at the site visit, but I was adamant to avoid it. Second, Brook mentioned that there was a manufacturer's recall on our existing 1-year old Mitsubishi heat pump (we have 2 zones with 2 separate units) and that we should pay him out of pocket to fix it. I was confused, because we received no information regarding a recall and typical costs associated with a recall are not paid by the customer. Furthermore, we hadn't experienced any issues and we're still within the warranty period from the manufacturer and installer. Brook said he had been processing a lot of recalls on units he installed and Mitsubishi was slow to send parts so it's easier to pay him directly for the repair. I contacted the original installer, who we had a very positive experience with initially, and they said there was no recall. I also looked online and couldn't find any information regarding a recall.

That is what they do: they're family-owned and have been doing this for a long time. I needed my 40-year-old upstairs and downstairs furnaces replaced and met with a total of 5 companies- one who said they were "family owned" was actually owned by a private equity firm, and another did plumbing and furnaces, and their estimate was 45% over everyone else, and they did not send me a detailed quote- just the total price. From the moment I made the first call, I was impressed: professional, organized. The estimator was great- no hard sell, explained everything in detail; their quote was very reasonable. They answered all my questions, showed up on time for the install, did the work efficiently, and everything works great. The permit and inspection went smoothly; they were there throughout the entire process. Super impressed and appreciative; Atlas was easy peasy to deal with. Don't look any further.

From my first contact with Aaron and his clear, concise bid to the field prep visit by Scott to the two days the high competent and respectful days the installers spent here, it was a joy. Honestly, in my entire career as a general contractor I never had the experience of dealing with a subcontractor who got it 100% right like Atlas did. And, as a footnote, they send out a very nice little box of cookies at the end of the job. Go Atlas!!

My Device: Gas-burning Trane XR80 Furnace from 2005 My Backstory: It is now 8-2026, and I had delayed fixing my heater since 1-2026. In January, it started producing a burning smell, sounded like it was working, but was giving off no heat, so we turned it off and on. Well, when that didn't work. We checked out the Diagnostic Board. That provided a clue: the OPEN LIMIT DEVICE needs attn. Above our pay grade. That's what scared us, and why we delayed the call. My Yelp Experience: Artisan Air responded quickly to my YELP quote request via text (my preferred form of communication) and scheduled a diagnostic appointment (on my preferred day/time). My Diagnostic Service Appointment: On the day of service, the technician provided a clear quote covering both cost and time estimates. We agreed on this and discussed payment options before starting any work. Timing & Service: The diagnosis and repair of my Trane system took under 2 hours total. The technician quickly identified the issue and got my system running efficiently again, with no return visits needed. Cleanliness, Care & Professionalism: I was impressed that the technician wore paper booties without even being asked, kept the work area tidy throughout, and left my home just as clean as they found it. Friendly dog? Dog friendly! Polite, courteous, and clearly knew what they were doing. Overall, an excellent experience from start to finish. Don't delay like I did... They came by on Monday (ASAP again!), looked over the entire system, and found that I had an electrical problem that had nothing to do with the heat pump. Nonetheless, Gary fixed my home's wiring problem even though this was way, way, way, way outside of his job. It is such a relief to have this kind of extraordinary customer service for a complicated system. These guys are absolutely the best!

Gary is knowledgeable, honest, provides great recommendations, and is a great human being. If you are going to support a business, support this one. Know that you will also be supporting a small business too! Back in 2024, our 20 year old air conditioner died. I interviewed many HVAC companies. They all send a salesperson out and try to upsell what you need. Gary is an owner/operator and came out himself. We discussed my needs and budget and he suggested an entry level Bosch heat pump system. He had good experiences with it with prior installations. When I did my own research on Bosch heat pumps, I asked Gary about the higher models, and he suggested that while those models were indeed better, the cost:benefit ratio may not be worth the extra cost. The installation process went smoothly. Gary will also be doing the installation along with an assistant. There were a couple of hiccups due to old wiring coming loose, but Gary and his team quickly identified the issue and resolved it. Fast forward 2 years, and the new heat pump is so efficient that I had a negative True-up bill for the first time. I will also periodically call Gary for advice on other projects I am working on like kitchen vent hood and exhaust fan ducting questions, to which Gary always responds with a great attitude and advice. When you hire Gary for a project, he will always be in your corner.
