      A work of art.

I called 3 vendors to get estimates on replacing my old wall furnace with more modern, central furnace. Comfy showed up on time, quickly gave me a very reasonable quote and won my bid. Through the whole experience, they were nothing but professional. Communications with them were great and they did an amazing job - all the way though setting up permit inspections. I would not hesitate at all doing business with them again.

The team at Comfy Heating (a family- owned business) did a fantastic job installing a Mitsubishi Mini Split in my bedroom suite. I highly recommend their services.

Crack where new thermostat was installed

TLDR - Not the best communication or installation experience. They needed to come back twice after the initial installation to fix cracks left in my ceiling -- and they were not proactive with communication. I don't write many negative reviews, but my experience with Comfy was disappointing and I wouldn't work with them again.. Before I get into the details, I'll say that the furnace system they installed works and passed inspection. But before you have them work on your system, take before and after pictures. After getting a few estimates for a new hvac system, we chose Comfy due to cost and great Yelp and Google reviews. Austin came out for an estimate on Jan 25, 2022, and a team installed the our new furnace Feb 8-9. Here's when the disappointing communication starts. We didn't live at the house, and when they finished the installation, they didn't contact me at all. I had to reach out to the technicians a day after the estimated completion date to ask if they were done, and they confirmed the work was complete. On 2/12, I go to the house to check the work, and I see really bad cracks on the wall where they had to cut for the gas line and on the ceilings where they installed vents. I was shocked. They didn't tell me about this at all. Yes, the walls are plaster, but how dare you leave my house in this condition and not tell me?! On 2/14, I sent Austin pictures of the cracks, and he said he'll follow up. By 2/22, I hadn't heard from him, so I called the office and spoke to Angie, who scheduled someone to come fix the cracks. Finally. I would've appreciated more proactive communication from them. I also asked about the permit because I hadn't seen a permit, even though the installation was done. When I finally got a copy of the permit, the application wasn't filed until 2/22. Shouldn't they get the permit before doing the work?! They need to better communicate every step of the process from installation to final inspection. After they fixed the cracks, I noticed that they didn't fix 2 other cracks, one where the bedroom vent is, and one where a brand new thermostat was installed, so I texted Austin again on 3/4. He told me the technician said the crack was already there, and that you can see rounded edges in the crack and some paint, which indicates it's been like that. He also said that they had to cut the wall for the gas line but not for the thermostat. Ummm how TF did you guys install one without cutting the wall when there was nothing there before?? BS. I asked him that and he ignored it and said fresh cracks do not have paint or rounded edge. Also, why TF would I be okay with you guys installing a thermostat if there was a crack there? You can see in the picture that the crack starts where the thermostat is. Unfortunately, I don't have a before picture, so take what you will from this review. They did come back to fix the crack in the bedroom though. One last thing that bugged me -- I gave them the payment for the work after they fixed the last crack. Later that afternoon, I get a voicemail from them telling me I have to give them a check. How about double checking with your team first before calling me to ask for a check that I already gave? I also had to schedule the final inspection myself. Not sure if this is common. As you can see, my experience with Comfy wasn't great, and I hope this review helps.

The quoted price for a two-head unit with external pump was in line or lower than the competing bids, backed by an extended multi-year warranty as Mitsubishi Diamond Certified installers. Heat pumps installed alongside existing central air is not an uncommon request, but we had a great conversation with Brook on how we might update to a more modern system in the future, given our original(!) furnace's age. Side questions for him aside, we had a thoughtfully sized system outlined and quoted within a day, and scheduled within two weeks. Our experience with the installation was similarly great, with the team arriving promptly as scheduled and taking the care to put on shoe coverings moving through the house. Everyone was polite and efficient, bringing the plan to life and bringing us in early when there were onsite decisions to be made in our unique spaces. When an issue arose on the cooling not blowing as cold as we had expected, they were quick to assist with troubleshooting, and had it fully remediating within the week. Permits are still pending due to the Oakland backlog, but their lead electrician will also be onsite during the inspection process so I have no worries there. While our immediate need during the heat wave this Spring was cooling our living spaces, I have full confidence that whenever we go to multizone heating and cooling, Spot Free will be our go-to experts!

First, the heat pump brand was changed in the quote to one that we did not want (Carrier). We were replacing it due to leakage of carbon monoxide. This is obviously a safety concern for us, but also a peace of mind issue. We had discussed using Carrier at the site visit, but I was adamant to avoid it. Second, Brook mentioned that there was a manufacturer's recall on our existing 1-year old Mitsubishi heat pump (we have 2 zones with 2 separate units) and that we should pay him out of pocket to fix it. I was confused, because we received no information regarding a recall and typical costs associated with a recall are not paid by the customer. Furthermore, we hadn't experienced any issues and we're still within the warranty period from the manufacturer and installer. Brook said he had been processing a lot of recalls on units he installed and Mitsubishi was slow to send parts so it's easier to pay him directly for the repair. I contacted the original installer, who we had a very positive experience with initially, and they said there was no recall. I also looked online and couldn't find any information regarding a recall.
