Last time I was here I got a weekday special meal deal. In the area again decided to do another meal deal todays special is burritos and I paid this with their horchata coffee. Service was kind of slow, seems like this side of the deli was being neglected so I did have to wait a little for someone to notice me and take my order. So many great finds in this market and it doesn't have a strong meat smell when you pass the meat section, which by the way has a really good selection of items. They have a nice bakery with lots of fresh Mexican sweet bread or pan dulce, a good amount of bakery items including cakes, fruit tarts and fresh bolillo. There is a cold and hot food express items section, with hot plate combos and aguas frescas to chose from. They have a large selection of dried chilies both prepacked and sold by bulk/weight, the produce looks fresh, the store was clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. This location was a bit out of my way but it was worth the visit as I was able to find everything I was looking for and more. I even found a large selection of Mexican Candies that I had been craving. It's a little dangerous knowing they have it all here but happy to know where I can find it! Came here on Christmas day and it was extremely busy. Parking wasn't too bad. It was also raining, so all the close parking spots were taken. There were a lot of people inside wanting to get some tamales, and picking up their catering order. We wanted to get some agua frescas, champurado, and get some tameles to go. The lady at the counter of the agua frescas asked if I was there to pick up a catering order, I said no, just here to grab some aqua frescas, and asked if I could get the 72 oz. She was extremely kind and was very helpful. I also asked if it was possible to grab the same size for some champurado. She gave me the large ounce container. When we got to the tamales, they were all gone. I went back to the same counter to ask if there would be anymore tamales for the day. She said they were steaming more and some will be out in about 15 minutes. Everyone that came in, went straight for the tamales and were a little sad that there weren't any. I also mentioned to her that the champurado was almost gone so they can make more to replace it. We decided to stay and take a look at all the other items in the market as we waited for the tamales to be done. We came back, and started forming a line to grab the tamales. Others started to randomly surround the staff member who brought out the tamales. The same lady told them there was a line behind us and for them to get behind us. Our other reason for shopping here was to find some desserts, but they were limited on what was available. Some pan de queso, pan dulces, flan, I'm not sure what the true name is, but the baby bread? Overall, we had a great visit and everyone was extremely nice. The only bad part was during our checkout, we mentioned that we got a dozen of one type of tamale, and a half dozen of another. We were about to get charged for 2 dozens, but we caught the error and just had to wait for someone to come and void the transaction. Other than that, everything went well. read more

Such a cool market that sells lots of fresh tortillas, pastries, tamales, ceviche, Mexican snacks and goodies! They even have booths that sell tortas, agua frescas, tacos, pazole, etc! Also, they have daily specials and it comes with a FREE agua fresca! Parking can be difficult especially on the weekends because it gets pretty busy but they have a big parking lot. It can get pretty crowded so try to come early if possible since they open at 7am especially if you come on the weekend! Service was very friendly and welcoming! Prices were pretty affordable! Got a container of super fresh and delicious guacamole for $6! The bag of chips i got was only $2 and were so fresh, crispy, and not too salty. The asada taco was freshly made and such a good deal for $2! The meat was marinated well, tender, and flavorful and the taco consisted of a lot of meat! The tortilla was so fresh and soft! The watermelon agua fresca ($6) was too sweet so I only had a couple sips but I had a sample of their horchata and it was good and not too sweet! Would definitely recommend and return! read more

It's been a minute since I've been inside north gate market, but oh man is it a foodies paradise inside. No time to cook, no problem. North gate has you covered. There are so many options to choose from and everything tastes amazing! Staff is friendly and incredibly helpful. An absolute must try is the agua frescas. The horchata con café is like an iced coffee with horchata and it is absolutely delicious. Another must try are the tortillas. They have a variety, but my favorite are the nopal (cactus) tortillas. Super affordable, healthy, vegan, and also very delicious. Another favorite are the Mexican mini sandwiches made with ham, queso fresco, avocado, and pickled jalapeños. The sweet bread here is also very good. Not overly sweet and the bread is soft. Lastly, a must is the beans. Specifically, the ones with bacon, ham, and cut up hot dogs. Full of flavor and pairs perfectly with their carnitas. Overall, I highly recommend this market. It truly is a one stop shop. I definitely will be back! read more

Was looking for a cake today and not one but all the employees in the bakery section offered to help me that's exceptional service! The store is extremely well managed clean festive and unique.. Did the tortas get smaller? Still decent price though. Especially if you get weekday lunch special with the medium size aqua fresca = $7.99 If you get the ladies, they work fast and give you decent amount of meat. If you get the young guy (who is most likely the only english speaking person), he will likely be slow and give more beans than meat. The cantina doesn't have it's own check out. You'll have to wait in line the grocery line. Sucks because the meal can get soggy. But you can eat on the spot, there are 2 tables inside. Parking is a bit crowded. This place is a local Hispanic market. The hot foods inside are good, my mom likes the tamales and chicharron. This time I came by and I got a cake for my sister at the bakery section to try but it wasn't that good, very sweet and the cake was somewhat sticky and dense at the bottom, not sure why. They carry everything you need to cook Mexican and most brands are available. What makes this place special is that they have a lot of different fresh food items such as fresh tortillas , ceviches, soups ,tortas and pastries not to forget the usual tamales ! All fresh , nicely presented and checked carefully for temperature. The prices are the same as elsewhere despite a lot of signs indicating sales and deals. They don't have many stores but they are worth checking out if you are planning to cook Mexican . I came here strictly just to get some hot foods. I can say I really enjoyed the tamales especially for like $2.50 each. The soups were a bit more expensive at $5.99 each but they tasted quite good. This review is specifically for the tres leches cake. If you're ever looking for a budget friendly tres leches cake without compromising the taste, this place is it! They've got different varieties of the cake as well. On my recent pick-up, I ordered the mocha tres leches, and wow - it definitely did not disappoint. I will say, this place gets PACKED, so if you're worried about being too close too people for obvious reasons, maybe go in the morning. There aren't real markers to keep everyone 6' apart. Otherwise, A+ on the bakery side! Don't be surprised if you walk out of there purchasing more than just thee cake though. Back on September 25, 2019, I signed up our two young chefs for Miguelito's Cocina Club on October 5 at 10:00AM. Our girls really enjoyed it, but it wasn't quite what I anticipated. Día de los Muertos was the theme. While I can explain ideas and concepts to our girls to the best of my knowledge, I anticipated a better suited employee to discuss the foods and traditions of this Mexican holiday. Turns out that the employee was from Cuba and was still learning everything about it. Lol. Mostly clean, organized store. The registers, while not many were open, moved quickly that morning as we did make a purchase after the almost one-hour class concluded. What is up with people parking in the no parking zone marked for unloading handicapped passengers? Happened with at least two different cars next to us. Douchebags don't consider wheelchair-bound people that have to use that space to get out of their vans, etc. Compared to my favorite Northgate in Norwalk, this location overall pales in comparison. read more

They prepare quesadillas, burritos, chilaquiles, menudo, tortas (even cubana), tamales, chicharrón en salsa verde, tacos, chicken meals ( bigger sizes for parties are available), and bakery goods. I came here for a Tres Leche cake but ended up getting a Choco Flan! While I was here, I ended up eating their Carne Asada torta with Horchata. I couldn't finish the whole thing but I recommend it. It's been awhile since I ate a torta! They also have tables to eat inside the market. You can put your cart on the side. You just show your plate to the cashier to pay for it. You can pay before or after you finish your food. It sucks! That I have to drive out 20 mins to get to this place since there's none in Alhambra. This place definitely has everything you want! Albertsons and these big markets should learn from them. They know how to treat their customers and the staff is always friendly and available to assist you. I will never shop anywhere else again.
