After calling a few locations, was so glad they had exactly what we needed-a tres leches cake! Was also glad to support a local business too! This cake was delicious and a hit at the party. They had about five left at around 5pm today and pricing at this time was $20 per cake. Excellent price! The best pan dulce in town. I used to go to La morenita for my morning bread but they were usually out by the time I would get there or the bakery rarely had any fresh bread. La Mexicana always has fresh bread all kinds of bread. The staff is friendly. My go to bread is conchitas or the elote. The bolillo is always great. It's a very small establishment maybe like 8X8 or possibly 10x10 but be ready to have people bumping into you if you go at a busy time. I've been coming to this bakery for years!! One of my coworkers introduced me to the ALWAYS FRESH pan dulce!!I lived in West Covina at the time I first started going. I eventually found a home walking distance from this bakery. Several coworkers asked me to pick up bread for them. Especially since I live close by for 14 years now. I have recently decided to move to Pico Rivera.. but I still plan to stop by for their fresh pan dulce and oh, I can't forget their cheese and chile bread as well as their tamales. Discovered this place while walking home on Garvey. It's very small and inconspicuous. I wouldn't have noticed it, if it wasn't for the people walking in and out. I like to support small businesses and it smelled pretty fresh and delicious so I tried it. The bakeries range from $0,65 - $2 I believe. I asked for the price and the guy told me all the prices depends on the bakery. Unfortunately they don't have price tags, which would make it a lot easier for customers. The bakeries are suppose to be Mexican bakery I expect. And it reminds me a lot of German bakeries. It just looks differently but still it taste great. Come and try it. I promise it's worth it. First of all this place only takes cash (money laundering perhaps), this used to be my family's go to place to get pan dulce. As of today 2/2/18, it will not longer be. The quality of bread has declined over the last few months, the consistency always varied (well the fact that they always have a hiring baker sign is probably why) sometimes it would be ok, other times it was just terrible, too much baking soda, cold, etc. And the worst part is that the prices kept increasing. Every time we would go we would pay an average of $15, and that was for about 8-10 pieces of bread. Well in-spite of that and the fact that it was somewhat convenient to us, we continued to go, but today was the last time. Tonight at around 8:40pm we got there and realized that we didn't have cash, went in to ask what time they closed and we were told they close at 9pm. We went down the street to an atm and came back 7 minutes later, and guess what it was closed. We told the lady that she told us they closed at 9 pm, and it was not 9 pm yet, she said we are closed. We insisted, and she said let me ask the baker, she came back and said the baker said that when we close we close. WHAT?! Let me point out that they had more than plenty of bread left over, and yet you rudely turn away a loyal customer, and refuse service within your regular business hours- my business is done here. I will make the drive to El Pavo bakery in Rosemead, where the quality of bread is so much better, and we won't be rudely yelled thru the door. read more

Ordered a 3 leches Cake for my sons Birthday , Got home and we sang Happy Birthday to my son, started cutting the cake and it was just plain white bread, Very dry by the way.... The only thing good on the cake was the Dinosaur Decoration.... My craving for Mexican sweet bread is constant and I'm pulled in like a magnetic force whenever I see the words PANADERIA or actually when I smell the aroma of fresh baked sweet bread lingering in the air. Sometimes I'm disappointed and sometimes there's a major party in my tummy and my thighs. La Mexicana was a pleasant surprise. I was with two other girls who happen to be Latina which was perfect because they were able to explain to me the many varieties. It seemed there were quite a few that were similar but had a different name because of the different shape. Either way it didn't stop me from trying, especially since sweet bread is generally pretty inexpensive. The storefront was super small but they had a huge selection of Mexican sweet breads aka pan dulce which seemed to go from floor to ceiling on every wall (conchos, bigote, chilindrina, elotito, mantecado, nino envuelto). The outside is a bit run down and if the girls hadn't told me it was there I wouldn't have seen it. Some of them, like the conchas and cake with frosting can be pretty colorful. The bread is always fresh and they have all your basic sweet bread like conchas, (white, chocolate, yellow and pink) elotes, tortugas, puerquitos, empanadas, orejas, cuernos the little sprinkle and chocolate chip cookie breads...bolillo etc. also they're croissant are really good. Anyways they have jello and flan slices in the fridge that you can buy for $3.00 and they also make cake here. The one thing I don't like is that they ONLY TAKE CASH. I live in Rosemead, but there are times when I crave Mexican and other Hispanic breads, so this is where I come. The conchas are perfect, not too bland or sweet. Also, the cakes they have are nicely decorated with fruit. I got a 6 inch tres leches cake, which my household loved. I saw the grossest thing ever in this BAKERY. We parked in the back and one of the cooks was spitting in prepd food. Once we said GROSS he looked and went inside and closed the door. BEST BOLILLOS EVER.... This bakery is the best when it's comes to bolillos. I haven't had any anywhere else like this place. They are soft and fluffy and there is nothing like them when they barely come out of the oven and are warm... Yummy all around. I have been coming to this panederia for YEARS since I was a little girl. The bread is delicious. My fav. Is the conchas. My hubbies fav. Is the oreja :). Only bad thing is they don't have the prices so you don't really know if there over pricing you or not. So that sucks. But the bread is so good. Other thing is it's cash only but they do accept ebt lol so that's a little wierd. But still the bread is sooo good. My family has been coming here for years however, we stopped going for some time after we found (what appeared to be a staple) inside a puerquito (pig) shaped bread. But we've recently began to start going again since it's the closest bakery near us, yet, I have noticed many changes. First, the bolillos (French bread rolls) have gotten really small and the price isn't worth it. Secondly and most importantly, the customer service is no longer there and I believe this is because the owner of the shop who is always at the register displays no type of friendliness. During my last visit she yelled at me from the register saying that I should be careful how I handle the breads because they are sensitive.. I replied asking how was I supposed to choose the ones I wanted if I don't look through them. She didn't say anything after that and just gave me a dirty look.
