Great little spot in no libs that has some seriously good food! It has an intimate bar setting without getting fancy and the walls are filled with quirky art work. Each time I've been here, the service has been exceptional and so fast no matter the volume of people eating or time of day. Food picks: get the fries!!! They are probably my favorite in the city. The wings are delicious as well as any of the salads. On our recent trip to n3rd we tried the hummus and it did not disappoint. I went to this restaurant with some friends and sat outside on the heated chairs this past winter. The drinks and food were delicious and the service was very fast. As a long time Northern Libs resident I have to say I almost always have a great experience at this local bar, however on my last three occassions, when I have tried to come in and have a drink while I wait for my to go order, it has gone from bad to worse and tonight was by bar the worst experience: I walked in this evening to relax, have a few drinks and grab something to go on my way out. I walk in, the lovely young lady at the door pleasantly greets me, I see the front bar is jam packed (Phillies Game) so I ask if she thinks there may be space in the back at the bar, she smiles and says yes there is room and to go back. I go back and Liz who almost always mans the back bar and almost always seem super overwhelmed, frazzled and often is rude did not disappoint. I sit down smile, say hello and immediately Liz says "why don't you order up front?" I said its packed up front which is why I was sent back here...she places down menus and I explain that I already know my order and she says "well I'll get the manager for you" dumbfounded I explain that I also wanted to order some drinks, the manager, Brandon appears and asks to take my order, meanwhile Liz is trying to justify herself by saying "since you are in a rush...I have three orders in front of yours, I can give you some water, it's just me back here" I explain to the manager that I never asked for a manager, I wasn't in any rush, I just didn't need a menu because I'm very familiar with it, Brandon politely asks Liz to stop talking and continue to work because now she is trying to go back and forth with me. Now, I'm embarrassed, because why am I being treated like this? Brandon takes my order and apologizes so the 5 stars are for his response, he listened, was kind and saw what was going on. So to the poorly trained, nasty, always having an issue Liz in the back, whatever your personal problems are, maybe you need a different job or more training. The whole encounter with her was weird, rude and uncalled for. I have never been so upset because I always try to air on the side of someone having a bad day but this is my third time trying to navigate her negativity and rudeness and I cannot stand by and keep letting this happen but I also want to say that North Third staff is usually (98% of the time) wonderful and kind, so I will be back but warning to all who value good service, DO NOT GO TO THE BACK BAR, IF THE SERVER IS LIZ. Love, Love, Love North Third!! I enjoy going here all times of day just for a snack or making an evening out of it with dinner and drinks. The food is always consistent and I love the vibe of the place no matter what time of day you are there. A quick tip for trying out the place is go with the wings or burger and I swear you will become a fan. After that - the Calamari is always a winner and then go through all the menu with of course the fantastic beers that are on tap. We arrived in Philadelphia on a late flight. We had trouble finding someplace to eat. Yelp directed us to a place That was promising, but the kitchen was closed. Ditto for the spot down the road. We ended up walking a few blocks to North Third. So. Glad. We. Did. The service was super warm and friendly, the cocktails creative, the decor wacky but not extreme. The food was a knockout. I had the Moroccan Spiced Lamb Burger with Fries. Those fries spoiled any other French fry for me for the rest of my life. So. Good. The "Lamburger" was cooked and seasoned just right. My wife enjoyed a craft beer and the Beet Salad. It came with a fried goat cheese...sort of like a cheese egg roll...Wow. The beets probably came from Schrute Farms. I've been to North Third twice in the last two weeks. That's how much i missed one of my neighbor's best hidden gems. The first time I was here recently I had the Mac and cheese and a Gose on draft. I can honestly say this was the best Mac and cheese I've ever had. I didn't get to take a picture of it, but it was a side order that i ate as my dinner. It was the perfect amount of food for dinner and didn't make me feel too much gluttony. Fast forward to this past weekend. My Dad and I didn't want to wait at the long line at Honey's for brunch so i decided to take him to North Third, which I've never been to brunch to. My dad ordered the divine tuna burger while i had the hangover cure.. i think that's what it's called? I got the French toast without the scrapple, fried eggs and breakfast potatoes. It was the best French toast I've ever had!! My dad loved the tuna burger and i enjoyed my delicious French toast brunch. I'm gonna keep promoting North third. I love coming to North Third. Every time I am here it gets better and better. The ambiance is welcoming but intimate. The lighting is dim and red, the art on the walls are thought provoking and unique. The menu is great and the specials are always surprising and packed with flavor. Great spot for an intimate evening or one with friends. My favorite dishes are, clams and sausage, I could eat the broth like soup! I also really love their Brussels sprouts, when they're on special! The salmon entree is delicious and fulfilling with a unique seasoning choice. For dessert I usually go for the raspberry sorbet, sweet but not too sweet and a nice size portion capable of sharing. :) read more

A solid choice for brunch in No Libs. Apparently owned by the same folks that run Silk City, and it's evident in their menu variety and overall atmosphere. There's both indoor and outdoor seating. When I arrived around noon on a beautiful Sunday, there was no wait for indoor seats, but it was about 20 minutes for outdoor. I didn't hesitate to opt for the air conditioning. Our server was spotty throughout the whole meal. She was kind and accommodating when we saw her, but we only saw her maybe three or four times. We didn't wait long for our food to arrive once we ordered. I got the breakfast special - toast, homefries, eggs, and choice of meat. It was definitely enough food to satiate me for the rest of the day. My fellow diner got the fried soft-shell crab sandwich, it smelled delicious and was perfectly coated and crispy. It came with some equally delicious fries, but SO many...almost too many. Ordered the mango mimosa when I saw another yelper mention it - delicious! Though unsure it was worth the $8 price tag. What more could a girl ask for? I came to North Third on a Sunday afternoon. Despite the place looking pretty busy, we were seated right away (bonus points for scoring a comfy booth!). We were greeted and given glasses of water right away. I ordered the mango mimosa which I would highly recommend. The mango really put a nice refreshing twist on the standard mimosa. I also tried the Bloody Mary which tasted just how I like it - spicy and strong. Not to mention, the presentation was really impressive (it included a cucumber, celery, pepper, lemon, lime, and olive). For my meal, I ordered the smoked salmon bagel platter. Not going to lie, I was a little unsure of my decision at first based on the mixed reviews of it on Yelp. But I was pleasantly surprised and happy I ordered it. The salmon tasted really fresh and there was a decent amount of it. Presentation was nice too. I don't have anything bad to say about North Third. I would definitely recommend it to others. To summarize my last review for North 3rd - BOOBS. Or rather the painting of them that makes for a good landmark when your trying to organize telling people where to meet up. But when I stopped in after a successful Elite Event on Monday, I couldn't help but notice how much more prevalent they were then I previously realized. when mapping out the decor it went a little bit like this - Gargoyles, boobs, dragon, boobs, butterflies, boobs, skulls, more boobs, robot dog. for better or worse, at least they gave you some things to look at. But that's not the reason you stop at a place like North 3rd. If your like me then you go there for it's unpretentious service, it's good beer selection, awesome food, and things like FancyPants Cinema. Of course the fact that it's one of the better outdoor seating spots in NoLibs doesn't hurt either. For a huge impromptu group of 20 on a Monday, our server was attentive as he could be. And I had an incredible pound of Buffalo wings for $8. And overall the surrounding decor of oddness brought out the best of our vast group. recommended as always. read more

I've been many times over the years and it's a nice spot to chill and hv good food. I like the atmosphere more than anything. It's always pretty lovely, the decor is very eclectic. They hv various seating options: booths, tables, high top tables, bar. & outdoor seating. Outside seating is nice not too much traffic, but enough to feel vibrant. The food is pretty good, nothing over the top. I don't feel like there's a whole bunch on the menu they I like, but there are a few favs. I like their brunch, they usually hv some special pancakes (today I had the Hot-Lanta pancakes), the breakfast burrito is pretty good, the cheese grits are good (I used to love their shrimp & grits but it seems that they've discontinued them). If they had non pork/beef breakfast meat options I'm sure I'd like them more. But overall it's a cool lil spot ;-) read more

Our server wasn't the greatest, and that was kind of a mood killer for me. However, the bus boys were nice and very attentive. They came over to check on us more than our server. Anyways, the place had a very nice ambiance but it's a little dark for my taste. Also, there's a lot of vulgar paintings on the wall, if you're into that. Food wise: we only ordered the calamari and mussels with curry. The calamari was very bland and the mussels were also just alright. We didn't even bother to order more food. Alcohol: we only ordered the "pitcher" of mojito, which was not a pitcher but in a shaker and served only about 3 drinks. Btw, I could barely taste any alcohol in the mojito, aka, it sucked. FRIED CHICKEN! LAMB BURGERS! Do I have your attention? Last night my husband and I ate at North Third and even though the decor was a combination of trendy and frightening, the food was nothing short of awesome. We ordered the pierogies as an appetizer. They came out smothered in sour cream and onions, and while they had a little bit of browning on them, it wasn't so much that they felt chewy, burnt, or crunchy. Definitely a good start to the meal. For my meal I ordered the fried chicken, mashed potatoes, jalepeno cornbread, and cole slaw special. The fried chicken was really good - I'm confident that there was honey on it, which made it just a little bit sweet. The mashed potatoes were so smooth they should have been called whipped/beaten/pulverized potatoes. The jalepeno cornbread was a little spicy but, like the chicken, also a little bit sweet. The texture was perfect - not dry at all. I even ate some of the cole slaw, and I am not a cole slaw fan (I hate the creaminess/thickness of it). My husband got the lamb burger with feta and arugula. The lamb itself was medium-rare and the portion was pretty large. The amount of feta on this thing was obscene, and the bread that held it all together was perfectly soft but supportive. It came with a side of fries that were well seasoned and he ordered a side of brussel sprouts also, which we both enjoyed. What I wasn't really a fan of were the cocktails. I started with the blood orange margarita and it was only OK. I've been eating at a lot of Mexican joints lately and this margarita didn't stand up to some others I've had. I then went with the "Stoli Doli." WHOA!! That thing was straight up liquor with like a teaspoon of pineapple juice. I couldn't finish it because it was just way too strong. Good for pint...the brunch was 'not so much.' I'm a fan of the controlled randomness of the decor. It's what Friday's and Applenuts go for, but fail miserably. Interesting and original art festoon the whole of the establishment. There are a few winners on the menu...the tuna burger springs to mind. It's real tuna, so one can order it as rare as one likes. In my case, I'd be happy to hit the filet with a hair dryer and call it done. It's served on brioche and accompanied by a genuinly hip aioli. Spot on. The brunch was mediocre at best. The mixed drinks are pricey, and food was a cut below expectation. I once tried using this (brunch) as a platform for a business meeting. The mistake was mine, but certainly won't be repeated. The staff is a bit too...'free spirit, modern, hippy, urban' for any sort of professional engagement, and restaurant gets incredibly loud when it's full. Brunch was a fail. N. 3rd is a hoot. There are multiple different dining areas you can choose to sit in, and each one has a slightly different and increasingly unsettling theme. The specials are totally rocking. The food was great and dinner portions were generous. Enjoyed the beers & cider on the menu. The service was spot on. My boyfriend and I had plans to eat brunch up the street, but decided against waiting around for 45+ minutes for a table. We headed to North Third and we greeted and seated right away. He chose the eggs benedict and I went for the Monte Cristo. Our meals came out within 10-15 minutes and were served with a decent size serving of fruit. My meal was a little overwhelming, but that's to be expected from a sandwich made with french toast instead of ordinary bread. Tried and True. Solid and consistent. This place hits the spot always, be it a weekend brunch, late night eats or for an impromptu lunch or weekday supper. I eat and drink here almost on a weekly basis and as my residency in Northern Liberties nears the seven-year itch mark, North Third has stood by me and has rarely let me down. For that, it deserves five stars, all the way. Not to mention: Service always prompt and friendly. Food well-prepared and yummy. Great beer, wine list and cocktails and they always offer up a nice rotating specials menu. We've walked by North Third a few times and the smells have been to die for. Decided today we'd try it out and it did not disappoint. He got the clam chowder and the steak while I got the shrimp dumplings and the Cobb salad. Everything was delicious and the staff was very attentive. I usually wait to try a place a couple of times before writing a review, since it can temper and balance a really great or really shitty experience. But there are other times when a place is just so solid that it's obvious you don't need to think about it. Thats the case with North 3rd. From the minute I walked in the door when a friendly waitress showed me to a seat at the back bar to the minute I left with the bartender shaking my hand, the service was super awesome. The place is cozy with relatively low ceilings and multiple rooms (I love places with several small rooms, dunno why, a sense of discovery, I guess) They kind of have a gothic thing going on with all kinds of gargoyles and devils all over the place and that adds to the cool ambience. his would bejust as good for a date as it would be to hang out and have some beers (as I did). And the food is quite good. I had the crispy chicken sandwich and several beers as I watched my nightmare scenario of the St. Louis Cardinals winning the World Series unfold. The grilled toasted bread had an ethereal quality that brought it above and beyond regular ol white bread, and the panko crusted chicken was the perfect thickness. The bacon and avocado and toppings were equally delicious. And finally FINALLY I found a place here that has perfect hand-cut belgian style fries. The spicy garlic mayo that comes with them is reason enough to go back right now. I was kind of waiting to check this place out because I knew it was good (sounds counter-intuitive, I know) but I'm glad I finally made it here. North Third is an exceptional spot in Northern Liberties. The atmosphere is welcoming with a quirky interior that hits home on the local spot feel. I have been here twice - once for dinner and once for brunch. Though I have no evidence of pictures for the dinner in the Fall, I was thrilled with the meal. My Crispy Chicken Sandwich was an A+. Chicken was juicy, crisp, and tender. The tomato was fresh, bacon crisp, avocado and mayo flavorful, and delicious roll. We had a fantastic piece of Chocolate Chip Bread pudding a la mode for dessert. I accompanied the dessert with a warm spiked apple cider - great balance of flavor and alcohol. One of the best meals in the area. Brunch on the other hand was just OK. The server recommended the Chicken and Waffles which were calling my name. The chicken, like on the sandwich, was excellent and carried the dish. I believe it was the syrup which carried the tabasco addition, maybe the chicken (I poured it over the chicken and waffles from the get so I couldn't decipher), but I was thrilled with the balance of sweet and spicy flavors. Unfortunately, the waffle was a bit mushy and needed a bit more umph. The eggs and potatoes are a complete side show...nice to have but not needed. Additionally, I ordered a single Banana Foster Pancake (malted vanilla an& banana pancakes topped with carmelized bananas, cinnamon & rum sauce, and whipped cream) from the specials menu. The dish was smothered with the Banana Fosters topping so the pancake did not really shine through. The sauce flavor was good but a bit too thick. Overall, it was good but needed more of a friendly balance of sauce and pancake. Overall, the experience here from Dinner makes it a 4-star. Brunch was more of a 3-star. North Third has become one of my favorite spots. I absolutely love checking their Twitter around 4 or 5pm every day, waiting to see what dinner specials sound intriguing. My absolute favorite and one of their regular rotating dishes is the spaghetti with clams. The portion is HUGE and the clams are fresh. It comes with a gigantic loaf of bread, usually from a different local bakery. Recently also got takeout from here - fries (the spicy sauce that comes with it is delicious), buffalo wings, thai chili wings, and calamari. All exceeded expectations. Charged me double on my bill. My partner and I split the bill when we came to this restaurant, the next day I get a charge for $126 when my bill was $63. Called the restaurant and the manager said he would "get back to me" about it and I never heard back from them again. Still trying to dispute the charge with my credit card company. Food was good but I will never go back due to this horrible experience. Getting charged over a hundred dollars back in November and STILL not having it resolved with radio silence on the restaurant's end is UNACCEPTABLE. read more
