This review is way overdue. I was told about North State and specifically Chris by my brother and a friend. I took 2020 BMW M2 in on a Thursday and they sold it over the weekend by Monday at a price they committed to. Chris is a class act and a gentleman. They also fixed a dent on my 2024 M2 I had bought elsewhere at a fraction of the price it would have cost me elsewhere. Chris also gave me a can of odor remover to get rid of the cigarette smell in this replacement car. I had a pretty bad experience there, and a good reminder of why Carvana and Carmax exists. The car I was after had a weird smell coming form the engine bay during the test drive. I can't say if it's an issue of simply from the copious amount of baby oil they spread all over the engine bay (huge diddy fans over there). When I tried to get a PPI not from one of their buddy's garage but a 3rd party I trust nearby they strangely no longer would let me get the car inspected. Save yourself some trouble and skip this place, not trustworthy and way above market rate. read more

In last ditch effort to sell my 2003 M5 to a dealer that actually knows what it's worth, I stopped by North State and had the pleasure of dealing with a Mr Hooman. This guy actually knew his stuff and didn't insult me by talking about 'Kelly blue book' while discussing my rare collectible M5. Such a breath of fresh air after dealing with used car managers at multiple franchise stores that don't know up from down and appraise rare cars the same way they would appraise a Chevy Malibu. I bought a car from North State Auto in Nov. 2016. Less than 2 months later, the car started having problems. And it hasn't stopped since. I paid $27,000 for a 2011 Land Rover. A "great deal" the sales guy said. I've spend almost 10k on repairs and maintenance but mostly, on diagnostic work. Trying to figure out why it won't pass a smog test(??). I can't renew the registration without a smog and without a current registration, I can't drive it. So I bought another car. The Land Rover just sits there. I still owe 8k on it so I pay $330 a month for a car that I can't drive and don't feel right selling to any decent human being. FML....I think the fair thing to do would be for them allow me a trade or a partial refund of some sort. read more

I bought a 2019 Ford Ranger with 32,000 from this business. The buying process was quick and easy. The service was spectacular. Maurice was awesome. However, the next day after buying my truck it started to rain and I noticed it seriously lacked traction. Shame on me, this is the first time I examined the tires. Turns out they were extremely worn. I'm no expert, but I used the penny test as my basis for measurement. It failed the penny test on every tire. I called North State Auto and they informed me it's company policy to not replace tires unless they are below 4/32. I decided to have the truck independently evaluated at a tire store. They rated my tires at 3,3,3,4. They also informed me it starts to become unsafe driving on tires with such low tread. 2 is the CalTrans LEGAL limit. North State Auto sold me a car with tire tread that was only 1mm over the legal limit. Yes, it's technically over the legal limit, but it's that tread depth is still not exactly considered safe by any tire expert. I called North State Auto again the next day to inform them of the safety hazard. They informed me at this point that it is company policy not to replace any tires at 3 or higher. They told me they would get me new tires at the company discounted rate. And they would install them for me for free. I'm so disappointed to be forced to buy 4 new tires 3 days after I bought the truck. I feel stupid for not checking, but I also feel ripped off. On a side note...I've currently been at North State Auto now for over 2hrs and 40mins waiting for them to change 4 tires.... The car sales experience is wonderful. But beware of the shop department. I would have your vehicle independently evaluated for safety before purchasing. If they cut corners on something so obvious as tire tread, who knows what they're allowing to pass their inspections under the hood. The safety standards are the very bare minimum here read more

They basically scammed me by forcing me to get a warranty to qualify for a lower interest rate, which I believe is illegal. DON'T trust a word out of their mouths. I flew from LA, on approved credit to buy an 06 M3. They assured me multiple times that the car was pristine. They told me the car is priced as is (a little high based on market) because it's in such great condition. I do not need to spend a cent on it. So I fly out and inspect the car.... front fog light broken, hood misaligned on driver side, A pillar shows where it was resprayed, windshield cowl cover worn and broken apart in multiple areas, driver window opens extremely slow compared to other ones, driver seat was repainted & falling apart with visible stitches, M logo on shifter is worn out, screen is bubbling on multiple areas, all 4 rims scratched (3 fixable but 1 needs replacing), muffler is hanging lower on passenger side. Upon test drive 2nd gear felt sloppy. I'm there on approved credit... I mention half of these things and tell them I'll sign the paperwork if they drop the price by 1k to cover some of these costs. The guy says to me now that I'm there that they priced the car as is BECAUSE it has these problems. Otherwise it would be more. But a day ago it was priced higher because I "don't need to spend a cent, the car is perfect" SHADY DEALER. Take your business elsewhere but if they have the car you want, don't even talk to any of the salesman and go in there and do your due diligence before saying a word. If you need to fly out or make a lengthy drive... DO NOT trust a word they say and save your time for something local. My out-of-state vehicle purchase with North State Auto started out well, but had some issues later. Had a lot of delays getting all sales & title paperwork sorted out (but to their credit, they did eventually help me complete it). Probably the most troublesome issue was they did admit and show me some minor damage from previous minor vehicle incident, but the total damage was NOT communicated and I was forced to do a comprehensive body repair & re-paint of the vehicle at my own expense (greater than $6000) after receiving the vehicle. Felt it was a good stop as they have a lot of high end cars I could look at rather then driving all over the Bay wasting time. Ultimately, my car could not be repaired and the dealership could not figure out what was wrong with so they remedied the situation and gave me my whole down payment back. I recently purchased a hard to find vehicle from North State Auto. I heard about this dealership from two friends that have been buying cars from North State for the last 5-6 years or so. I had no intention of going there, but a hard to find car that I'd been keeping my eye on was being sold at their dealership. I found the car listed on Autotrader.com which is where I usually find the cars I buy. Since North State Auto is near my office I figured I'd go have a look. They had the car priced very competitively, to the point that I couldn't resist checking it out. When I showed up, I was greeted by a salesman named Mike who remembered me from 7 years ago when I bought a car from him at a different dealership. Mike not only remembered my name, he remembered where I work and the car I bought from him way back when. He's a good guy who isn't pushy, just a hard worker that wants to see you find the car you want. Mike helped me with the test drive and made me feel comfortable. Needless to say I purchased the car and I am extremely glad I did. It's been a month since I made my purchase and I did have a few minor issues that brought me back to North State Auto. Every time I've been back, I've been helped by a really good guy named Chris. Chris is the person that makes sure you are 100% satisfied with your purchase. He's the guy that will make you want to go back to North State Auto every time you need to purchase a vehicle. I have never been treated better by a car dealership. To be honest, I didn't even think you could get the things taken care of that they've done for me. Their hard work and attention to detail has made me a customer for life. I can't recommend them enough. If you are in the market for a luxury vehicle or high-end sports car, you owe it to yourself to go to North State Auto just to see the assortment of hard to find cars they have. Bought a 2011 bmw m3 a couple of years ago from these guys. Lied to me about asking price when I inquired about car. Asked them why they were quoting me a higher price than what was online. The kid who was showing me cars replies "oh shit" and walks away only to come back with his Manager. I should have walked out the door at that point. (I know) Long story short I bought the car. I had to return 3 times to have issues fixed. 1. Complete electronic failure. Windows would not roll up, doors would not lock. Instrument cluster would not light up. Car faulting into limp mode. 2. Fuel control unit failed throwing my car into limo mode once again. 3. Adaptive xenon Headlight unit failure. Thankfully the car was under a 30 day warranty. ( I figure the dealer does this because they are well aware of the quality of there vehicles) This all happened with in one week of buying the car. (Are you kidding me) I've also come to discover the hood on the car is after market and the side panels as well as the new hood have all been painted again to try to match the rest of car. Either the car was in an accident or the entire front end got smashed by a tree and had to all be replaced. They buy cars from auctions that are in crap condition then resell them for a profit. I'm going to cut to the chase. Best purchase I've made in a long time. If you want to know why, read on. I'd been searching for the perfect AMG E63 for months. When I saw that NSA had one on hand, my call to Jim in sales changed everything. Jim made it incredibly easy. Super charismatic car enthusiast with serious passion for exceptional service--that's how I'd describe him. He knew when I called that I was not a typical customer. I wanted an absolutely pristine car. Jim ensured that I had all the information I required. He actually went to the car when we were on the phone and answered all of my questions, and there were several. Then he did a full video walk-around and sent it to me. I can tell you after months of searching, Jim is NOT your average salesman. And as it turned out, NSA is not your average dealership. These guys are way above-and-beyond. Jim, knowing I lived in San Jose, gave me everything I needed to justify driving to Walnut Creek. This may seem trivial, but to those of us with limited time, it's a big deal. The day I drove to NSA, Jim assured me we'd make it happen. He was so genuine I believed him. I arrived, test drove the car and was blown away. The car was immaculate. That's when I was introduced to Tim, a co-owner. Nicest dude ever. Him and I, as it turned out, had a lot in common. He went out of his way to make it happen right then and there. When I came back to pick up the car, I met the other owners, Hooman and Chris. These guys are the most respectful people you'll meet. I left NSA feeling like I was part of their family. They're not out to make a sale. They're out to build a lifelong relationship. I would buy another car from these guys without hesitation, and I will be taking my car there for service. One last point: North State Auto only deals with exceptionally well maintained pre-owned vehicles. I could see this just by checking out some of the other vehicles in the lot. If they detect that a vehicle is not up to their high standards, they simply won't take it on. They want every customer to leave with an amazing vehicle. I rarely ever write bad reviews. But the way this dealership handled their customer service was by far one of the worst experiences I've had. I've been looking to buy an AMG GTS for over a year now as it's been my dream car. Although there have been multiple on the market, I wanted one with some custom modifications and when I came across one at this dealership, I scheduled a test drive immediately. When I got to the dealership, I met one of the sales guy - Mo. This guy was so fucken rude. Craziest thing was I'm pretty sure he was Muslim, and as a Muslim guy myself, I was shocked to see how rude he acted. Not to give me any special treatment, but I almost felt like he was discriminatory against me. I asked him various questions about the car and he just kept saying "every things on the website". Clearly it wasn't since I was asking questions that were not on the website like carfax details, what had previously been worked on, etc. He even tried selling me some BS by telling me the rims were over $10k when they are actually being sold online right now for $2k. Worst part is I drove 45 minutes from Marin to Walnut Creek and the guy didn't even let me test drive the car. Then I asked him if he could start the car so I can at least hear the car and check out the engine underneath the hood and he said "I don't want to smell the odor from the engine because it's in the show room, so sorry I can't turn the car on either". What kind of dealership tries selling a car and doesn't even start the damn thing for you? Anyways, I was determined to buy the car anyways because like I said, this was my dream car and it was rare to come across one with some modifications done. So I went back home, got approved for a loan at my bank and scheduled another appointment bringing my family along to make the purchase and test drive the car with another sales person named Ruben. Ruben was super nice and even let my brother test drive the car, but as he was doing that, my father overheard Mo ask "why is he test driving it now" super rudely. Despite the attitude from Mo, I decided I'd buy it and asked to schedule a pre-purchase inspection on the car. This was a $92,000 dollar car and this is a private dealer, so it's obvious to get an inspection done before making such a large purchase. Weirdly enough, they tried swaying off the inspection (which is a major red flag because dealers who do this are always hiding something), but eventually he nudged. I told Ruben to send me the files on the car on what had been done when it was under warranty and he said he would send it to me via email because the sales team was not there and it was in there office, which he "couldn't open". Over the next few days, I texted and called them multiple times for the documents, before my inspection, and he never sent it to me. I decided to call Mercedes myself, gave them the vin number and found out it had a major oil leak and had over $9500 worth of work done on the car. Which is insane for this specific car, especially since it's only got 27k miles. After calling Mercedes, I decided I'd just buy the car and purchase a warranty to keep me covered in case anything goes wrong (this was also advised to me by Mercedes themselves). Now despite the horrible customer service, I wasn't going to write a bad review until THIS HAPPENEND - when I left the dealership after I test drove the car, I specifically said if all goes well with the inspection, I'll buy the car the same day. And I told them I'll bring a check from the bank (which again I had to go out of my way to get approved, etc). GUESS WHAT? These assholes sold the car the MORNING of my inspection. And the worst part - they didn't even call me or tell me. I had gone on the website myself to get the Vin, so I can purchase a warranty from Mercedes, and I noticed the car wasn't on the site anymore. So I called them thinking they may have taken it down since I was buying it that day and the front desk guy said they sold it to someone else this morning. I don't know who the owners of this place are, but they definitely need to fire Mo if they want to keep making good sales and most importantly need to keep their word. I wish I would have read the reviews before purchasing from this dealership. I purchased a 2015 S 550 Mercedes Benz sedan from this place. They had the car listed with True Car as a great purchase. I tested drove the car and while driving the car I pushed the buttons to release and retract the screen cover to the panoramic window. The sales associate, Thomas, joined in the test car ride and was aware that the screen cover worked. Unfortunately, one day later I realized the panoramic window would not tilt open. The screen cover worked but not the window. Lacking integrity Thomas failed to tell me that the actual window would not open. I understand that Used Sale Associates go by the sale code of if not asked don't tell. I would think that there would be a sense of responsibility to not lie by listing the car as a great buy when repair is needed immediately for a car. I called the dealership and requested a return call. I explained that I just wanted to know if the dealership knew if it is a fuse issue or more before I attempt to have the car serviced. Of course, the sale associate or any one from the dealership failed to return my call. They appeared as nice people but wolves come in sheep clothing. Do better North State Auto. People work hard for the money and it is not hard to respect the purchase. I did purchase the extended warranty so I hope that helps with the matter. I am praying that this is the least problem I have with this purchase. I want to share that I am seeking to purchase a second car in one to two months. **TL;DR:** North State Auto is really, really good at keeping their word and upholding excellent customer service practices... No, I'm kidding. These are not their strengths at the moment. If you're in the market for an upscale, used car, bear in mind that North State Auto is, at the end of the day, seemingly no different than every other unscrupulous used car lot out there. ------- It's no secret that buying a used car can be... well, a crapshoot. No revelations on that front - "buyer beware". That being said, a great way to mitigate the inherent risk of a used-car purchase is to simply go through a proper dealership. Want an Audi? Buy a "used" or "CPO" car through an actual Audi dealership. Want a Porsche? Talk to your closest Porsche dealership. What one should NOT do is attempt to deal with the sub-standard level of professionalism at North State Auto. Leverage North State's inventory for nothing more than inspiration behind your next purchase. ------ I was about to drive 400 or so miles to Walnut Creek to purchase a car from North State, so I put a small deposit down to "hold" the vehicle until I could make my way to the dealership that weekend. In the interim, I requested some paperwork regarding the car's last service/inspection. What I received (in a rather untimely manner, by the way) was anything but confidence inspiring. There were plenty of red flags, not the least of which being the (almost) laughably deficient inspection notes and, indeed, the lackluster, bare-minimum inspection itself. I decided it wasn't worth bothering to make that drive and take that risk, so I searched the Interwebs far & wide and found something much, much better. I spoke with one North State salesperson to let them know I was going in a different direction, and was curtly told, "It's my day off. Call the dealership". I did just that, and was given a bit of flack for requesting a refund of my $250 deposit. Ultimately, however, I was given a verbal promise that the refund would be made. I waited days - like, DAYS - as in more than a week, and I still didn't see the refund processed. I emailed North State with a gentle, "Hey, y'all! That refund would be great, please", and still nothing. Not even a response. If I was in the mood to be "ghosted", I'd text my ex-girlfriend. I've now sent them yet another email that I don't expect a response to. Next up is filing a complaint with the California DMV with a copy sent to the BBB as well as requesting a chargeback with the credit card company. North State has some undeniably rad cars on their lot, so I was going to keep them in mind for another purchase in the not-too-distant future, but yeeeeaaah... not so much anymore. I ended up working with Porsche Beaverton instead, and got an objectively better car (less milage & nearly PERFECT condition as confirmed by my family's trusted mechanic), a better price, AND wonderful, professional customer service from start **through** finish and beyond. My SO and I recently went from being a one car family, to a two car family. We got really into bike riding during COVID, so we knew we wanted to upgrade from our sedan to a truck for #bikelife. Because we'd be hauling our bikes, I knew I wanted to go used, and I typically tend to to stay local for my big purchases. I often get on the freeway near North State Auto, but always assumed they only dealt in higher end vehicles. But one day I saw a few trucks on the lot so decided to check them out. On the day that I visited, I was immediately approached by Chris, who I told I was interested in doing a trade in and that I was prequalified for a loan. Chris showed me the trucks that they had in stock, made sure I felt comfortable behind the wheel, etc. Once I decided on a 2018 Chevy Colorado, we took it for a test drive, and then started the paperwork for the trade in and purchase. While buying a car can be notoriously painful, I felt like Chris was very kind in making sure the process ran smoothly. We've had the truck for awhile now, and it has been great! I bought a Tesla from them. Great car and a good deal. My only complaint is that the salesman told me that I would get it with a full charge and it had less than 30% when I picked it up and I had to drive it to a charger and waited for an hour to get enough range to drive home. read more
