They have a cute little shop on the corner in the heart of Highwood within walking distance to so many wonderful businesses if you need to kill time. When you walk into Billy's, it's like you have entered their laboratory, everything they are working on is pretty much within eyeshot of the lobby. Billy's is keeping it old school. There is no fancy computer system, no appointment texts, no data capturing, just you having a conversation with Billy about your need. Billy will provide you a cost estimate on the spot and a ballpark on turn time, he scribbles your name and number down on a pad of paper, takes your car keys and that's it. You will NEVER receive a text from Billy, or an email, nor be required to use an app. You WILL receive a phone call and/or voicemail. I have had big jobs and small jobs done here and neither have disappointed. I literally came in after work with a small job sight unseen at 2pm in the afternoon and Billy turned me around in under an hour. You cannot ask for much more than that. So glad to have Billy's as a local resource and happy to patronize.

Thankfully, they have some stuff to entertain you with, including a TV in the waiting room showing Big Bang Theory, coffee, and if anything, free Wi-Fi so you can mindlessly scroll for hours as you wait. I was informed that I did indeed have a nail in my tire. Unfortunately, I had to replace two of the tires, as the tires were stock as was more bald than Mr Clean. The technician was nice enough to show me the nail and after figuring out which tire to get, I was out the door in no time. All-in-all, decent enough service, with no huge pressure to upcharge me.

So they're not looking to take your money; they want you to get the work done right! I've seen them handle difficult customers with calmness and respect. But their values are so humane too, which goes above and beyond any mechanic, much less any vendor. They hire special needs adults and do on the job training with patience, repetitiveness, and care. They are LGBTQ+ friendly and safe. I hope the best for this company and its employees, I hope the values never change. Good honest work with good honest people. Very disappointed…read more.... When this auto shop first opened in Northbrook years ago, I was very excited because I thought "yay...I don't have to take my car to my dealership anymore" since I felt I was always overcharged for their parts and services". Heart was a little bit cheaper than my dealership so I was happy to give them my business. The front desk people were always friendly over the phone and in person and they were never pushy. My issue with them is regarding their honesty. I urgently needed a new car battery 3 years ago (2023). I called them on a Friday afternoon to check if they had a car battery for my particular make/model/year in stock. I was told they had it in stock and to bring in my car first thing Saturday morning. I was able to drive my car to their shop the next morning and the store manager at the time made sure that I got a new battery right then and there. He even called me the next day to make sure my battery was working fine. WOW! I was truly amazed by this high level of customer service. I've never had anyone from my dealership call me to check in. So over the next few years, I kept going to Heart for other services and was a very satisfied customer until today (Sept 2026). We needed to replace our car battery today since it was leaking and my husband decided to replace it himself. We went to Costco to purchase the new battery and bring in the old battery (for disposal) and what did we notice today? Heart installed the WRONG size car battery in my car 3 years ago!!!!!!! The Costco employee at the tire center was like "Is this the car battery that was in your car?" due to the obvious size difference between the battery we were going to buy at Costco and the one installed at Heart! Seriously? Not sure if the wrong size affected my car since it was jiggling under the hood all this time! Yes, my car drove fine with the wrong size battery all this time, but they installed the wrong size! The casing for the battery was TOO SMALL!!! They probably don't expect most customers to go under their hood and inspect or change the battery themselves so they probably didn't think we would notice the size difference! VERY DISAPPOINTED! They could have mentioned to me that the car battery they installed was a little bit smaller in size but not to worry since it wouldn't affect my car. A heads up about this would've been nice. But nope....no mention at all! They lost our business. We will never go to them again for any service!

I stopped at Jiffy Lube on my way home from work a little after 5PM. They got my car right in without a wait. I was warmly welcomed. Used to service in a dealership setting, I was prepared to be there until they closed but I was out the door in under 20 minutes. Amazing! I can't say enough nice things about the gentleman who took care of me. He was helpful, courteous and made my experience pain free which was such a relief. I think I got a bargain if compared to what I would have paid at the dealership. I'll definitely be a repeat customer.

When I returned an hour later, they'd changed the oil and rotated the tires but hadn't addressed the warning light, meaning I had to go home and come back later (I had obligations).
