I am sharing this review because I genuinely want other pet owners to be aware of my experience with Dr. Shaw and the dental procedure performed on my dog, Penny. Penny is a 3-pound dog who underwent a dental cleaning and multiple extractions under Dr. Shaw's care. During the procedure, I received a call stating that six teeth needed to be removed, including a back upper molar located very close to the eye/orbital area. At no point was I advised to consider referral to a veterinary dental specialist despite Penny's extremely small size and the complexity/risk associated with that area. I also was not informed of the serious potential complications that could occur. Following the procedure, Penny developed worsening symptoms including swelling around the eye, pain, fever, decreased appetite, and visible distress. We returned multiple times seeking help. According to the medical records, the extraction site was documented as "difficult to see due to size of patient," yet Penny was discharged without additional diagnostics or escalation of care. The next morning, an emergency hospital immediately identified active purulent drainage coming from the extraction site. CT imaging and specialists later confirmed a severe abscess and infection tract extending from the extraction area into the orbital region behind Penny's eye. Despite emergency treatment and specialist intervention, the infection progressed to the point that Penny ultimately lost her eye. This experience has been devastating emotionally, physically, and financially for our family. We incurred nearly $12,000 in emergency and specialty veterinary expenses as a direct result of these complications. What was also deeply upsetting was the complete lack of personal accountability or compassion afterward. Dr. Shaw never personally called to check on Penny following the loss of her eye, and at no point did she apologize for what happened. I understand that complications can occur in medicine, but I believe pet owners deserve full transparency about risks, especially in medically delicate cases involving very small dogs and complex extractions. I also believe cases like this should be referred to appropriately trained dental specialists when necessary. I would strongly encourage anyone considering advanced dental work for a very small dog to ask detailed questions about experience, training, specialty referral options, and risk before proceeding. read more

We have been taking our dogs to North Kenilworth for over 12 years and have never had a bad experience. They've supported our anxious dogs throughout visits, helped us say goodbye when time to cross the rainbow bridge, and have helped us with new ones entering our home as well. I never feel like I'm being ripped off with add ons or pricing, and they are always very detailed and up front about service costs. I'm happy they have an app to use now as well. read more

I'll say this about Kenilworth. I never leave here feeling like I Got taken advantage of. Kara at the front desk is this first part of a great experience. She is professional, knowledgeable, and never acts like your questions are a bother. The nurses are so sweet, and genuinely love their job . We recently had to put our beloved standard poodle down, and they were so kind and compassionate. They even sent a beautiful card signed by every person on staff. I highly recommend Kennil worth veterinary. read more

I've been going to here for years since I live in the neighborhood and it's convenient for us. As others have mentioned, this practice has been recently sold to a larger, profit focused, corporation. Their veterinarians over the past 18 months have come and gone like a revolving door but most importantly, the culture here has changed to squeeze as much profits from their customers as possible. You know that feeling in life when you feel like your getting "played"? Every visit here is between $350-$500 and thats with me turning down shots. Everyone is very kind and caring here but everything is a soft upsell. On one visit I was told how important having my dog get Heartguard regularly was. Then I go online to request the medicine for my other dog, it's denied, and I'm told, "your dog needs to come in for a $130 examination to ensure he doesn't already have a heartworm". And I say, "But you just recently examined him, told me he was healthy, and also told me that when dogs have heartworm they're in excruciating pain so it's so important to stay active with the heartworm medicine." "Nope, the doctor will not prescribe this without seeing your dog!" This is just one example of feeling like this practice is gouging their customers with unnecessary expenses. Beware...this is a vet practice that has shifted their focus much more into a profit focused enterprise versus what is best for the end customers wallet. There are a lot of other nearby Vets that are family owned still with strong integrity nearby (ie: Dog, bird, Cat Hospital) that will act with more integrity around keeping visits cost effective while also keeping your dog healthy. After 4+ years going here and rooting for this clinic to be great, I recently had enough of the $500+ visits and I'm moving on. read more

Waited months to get in to this veterinarian location. They have great ratings. I was very pleased. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Davis. So happy I finally got squeezed in. I'll be taking my senior cat next month. Precious made herself very comfortable. She had a thumbs up, check up! I love the staff very friendly and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend them. read more

I have been a customer since the end of last year, and this is the third time I get rude treatment from the technicians. I brought my dog Anya in today for her monthly injections and I was made to feel uncomfortable and like a liar for the clinic's own mistake of not keeping my dad's credit card information on file as he had requested on my previous visit last month when Anya had her physical exam. I have many complaints, including from that specific exam day. But I'll focus on today first: On my 9am appointment on August 1st I was asked to pay by the employee working the desk, I explained my dad had already provided his card information and it should be on file since last time I was there for her annual exam the technician even verified the last 4 digits with me given that when she tried to run the card it didn't work because they had entered some numbers wrong, so I called my dad and got the correct number for that tech. This employee said: No the info is not here; so I tried detailing what happened last time, but she proceeded to cut me off while I was still speaking, I then continued to finish my thought and she kept talking over me! I asked if they could check someplace else in their system and I was given a stern NO. This person stated that they could not ever save a card on file. The technician that injected my dog was not helpful either, because I had to get to the point of asking if I needed to stay there until my dad returned my call to make the payment for her to propose to send my dad a text with a payment link, to which I replied that wasn't possible because he doesn't have a cell phone. This technician then said that if my dad called we could get the card saved on file, which is contrary to what the employee at the computer told me in front of the technician. To end the ordeal, I said, well hopefully this time the card is finally saved, and asked for the manager's name to settle this, this technician then answered Aja in an overall unpleasant and patronizing tone. I had manners and communicated in a respectful tone throughout the awkward treatment I got from these women. There were no empathic statements whatsoever. The tech from today also said Anya had another medication on file to be injected each monthly visit and asked me to confirm if she does get this one, a medication that begins with the letter S. She said it always appears there, and I was just communicated this today? What if she had been administered this and it made her sick?? My other complaint is that the doctor that saw Anya last time for her annual exam didn't check her mobility by assessing her joints since she has arthritis. Also, when asked a clarifying question about how heartworm travels from one place to another she got very defensive because I didn't understand the way she explained something, and essentially got short with me and confrontational. All in all, I've noticed there's a pattern of bad attitude from the employees as well as this one doctor. There's also frequent miscommunication and disorganization. But most importantly, they don't know how to act in a stable and customer-centric way. I am done being patient with their apparent discrimination as a woman that is an immigrant. read more

Maybe it is not fair to rate a practice on their former doctors, but it is worth noting that Dr. Jordan missed a very serious and major recommendation for my senior poodle that Dr. Young was quick to catch. For that, I will give this vet 4 stars, and Dr. Young's honesty and concern for fixing her colleague's mistake makes me feel safe taking my dog there for regular veterinary care. read more

Lovely staff and the vet takes her time with you. They are very, very thorough. Efficient front office and they get you in on time - no ridiculous waiting in the lobby. Issues: The facility is very run down. While I understand that they want to maintain the original building, it needs some work. It is also terribly small, cramped, and uncomfortable (the lobby 'seats' are basically a low counter - weird). Expensive. Otherwise, I would give the office a 5. read more

EASY 5 Stars for North Kenilworth Vet Care. Dr. Jordan and her team are the most caring, compassionate, and understanding people I have ever met. A week ago, our sweet boy Ziggy presented with some very scary symptoms and an ever scarier prognosis; Tick Fever. The worst week of our lives just beginning, NK's entire staff went above and beyond in making sure our boy was safe and cared for, preparing us for whatever may occur. In doing so, they kept Ziggy one step ahead of his prognosis. Dr. Jordan's excellent care, early warnings, and calm communication helped us keep a level head throughout a horrific experience - and believe me, we were NOT calm. Mr. Ziggy Smalls is home now, and healing. We owe that to North Kenilworth. From the bottom of our hearts and with more appreciation than we could ever possibly show, thank you. Thank you so, so much. read more

I've been a long time customer back to the Dr. Holmes days but no more. They're corporately owned now and so the prices have skyrocketed. My last two visits were 1k plus visits!!! Now, I'm told a biweekly shot my dog requires is going to be $70 a visit!!! Taking care of your pets shouldn't be a budget breaker but when corporate is trying to make a profit off your pets misery then you must pay big bucks! Sorry to see this once excellent independent vet go the way of corporate but I just can't afford these prices. Kudos to the staff, all nice and friendly but the prices are a killer!!! Sad to see this happen to a once excellent vet clinic. read more

So lucky to live in the neighborhood and be a client at this wonderful clinic. Their operations are always on point (through covid and all), meaning you never wait long and always get clear timelines and prices. Their doctors and staff are truly the best! Dr. Kirk has seen Zuri a few times (regular appt and emergency) and is just so educated, kind, and easy to work with. Zuri is a bundle of problems (gotta love her!) between epilepsy, anxiety, and a mischievous streak, and they are always so patient and understanding, no matter what Zuri's mood or circumstances are that day. Truly so lucky to work with this amazing team! read more

We take both of our dogs here and the staff is very friendly. We also have been able to get appointments within a reasonable amount of time.

We rescued a new puppy at the end of March. While I was looking for a vet near us, my goal was to find a smaller vet that would treat our new family member like their family. Long story short: I am SO happy we found North Kenilworth Vet. They have been phenomenal and this is just through drive-up appointments (due to the pandemic). They are super responsive and caring. I'm so happy that we have a vet we can count on! More details :) - I came across North Kenilworth Vet which was less than 5 minutes from our apartment and had great reviews. I called them just hoping they would be taking new clients. I talked to Asia and she couldn't have been more welcoming. She answered all my first time puppy owner questions and got me on the schedule for less than a week away. Now this was the part that made me know we were at the right vet. When we rescued her, our girl was having suture reactions from her spay and had just gotten off antibiotics. When I noticed that they seemed irritated again, I called the vet. This was BEFORE our first appointment. They were so helpful and asked the doctor immediately what to do. Not even an hour later, I had the antibiotics in my hand. They were outstanding. She's now had 2 appointments with Dr. Tatum (and all her puppy shots - yay!) and they have been great. They were able to help us figure out her age and breed. We have have never felt like they gouged us or that we were getting ripped off. I definitely feel like we are in a great place. Thank you! From Millie (puppy) and family read more

Dr. Kirk is outstanding! And so is the rest of the staff ^_^ They are helping me care for my little old lady Joon by compassionately guiding me through her care as she faces issues with her kidneys. I was not only educated, had my answers questioned, asked if I had any more but also informed of different options for care according to what I wanted to do for my little kitty baby and what I can afford as we move along with her treatment. Truly appreciate the transparency, attention to every aspect of care, and the kindness both Joon and I have received. This is a wonderful vet office! read more

Eh... I felt like I was at a car dealership honestly. I think they care more about building up their tickets than doing the minimal with the animals. They ran a test on my dog , which they insisted that I needed, and they never even called to give me the results .. I want to thank North Kenilworth veterinary for ALL the help and care given to Mizz Delilah, my fur niece. She came to me by way of my bestie relocating to the east coast. Goodbye Dr Channing, you always took excellent care of Astro. You have a wonderful bedside manor, are very professional, and absolutely care about each and every one of us - not just the pets but their human companions as well. This facility is amazing. Speedy and efficient care... Astro had two surgeries here for ACL tears in his knees. Surgeries were huge successes, and they saved my little guy from a life of being crippled. I love you guys! Friendly and professional staff. The veterinarian I met with clearly cares a lot about the animals, and he even personally called me the next morning to check in on my dog, who had only had a very minor injury. Honestly the best vet we have ever been to! Dr. Holmes is amazing! We had to take our 1 year old pug because he was acting so lethargic and not eating or drinking for a couple of days and we were so concerned. Thankfully everything is great with him now! Dr Holmes be his staff were so sweet with our pup and really showed they cared which sadly isn't something a lot of vets show. One thing that really stood out to us is that he followed up with us a couple days later to check in. That's NEVER happened with other vets. I highly recommend North Kenilworth. They obviously don't need my review, but I did want to point out their unique efficiency in that they have a set-up where they don't make you sit in the lobby filling out a bunch of forms first, they quickly get you and your pet into an exam room, the vet or assistant enter from a back door to the exam room, if your pet needs an xray they swoop them through that back door to the xray area in the back and return with your pet, and when the appointment is over the point of sale can be accomplished right where you sit in the exam room from their laptop. No need to lug your pet around from lobby to exam room, then from exam room to lobby to pay. There is an entrance in the front and another one in the back, so u can use either one depending on where you parked in their parking lot. You can see the back work area a bit if you enter/exit from the back porch entrance/exit, and it looked pretty clean to me. read more

As a first time dog owner, I was super anxious and not knowledgeable of how to take care of my rescue dog's cough and extreme separation anxiety . Dr. Young and her staff, even the receptionists are super helpful and care for my dog as if it were their own. The front office staff and most of the techs are nice. But I have butted heads with some of the veterinarians about my dog's treatment. Although that provider is no longer with the clinic. I am unsure if I will continue my care with them because they used to be on point about returning phone calls and lately I've had to call 4 times and write an email and still no reply. read more

Dr. Channing and her staff are the most dedicated veterinary professionals. My dog, Harper, was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis. Thankfully, he is on the mend. We moved downtown a few years ago and were completely happy with our veterinarian in Ahwatukee. Fast forward to now and this mama doesn't have the patience or strength to haul a toddler, a Newfie and a large Doodle on a 2hr excursion to the vet in a small Jeep. So we decided to start looking downtown for some options. North Kenilworth came highly recommended and have so far lived up to every expectation and beyond. The staff is very friendly and super helpful. The Veterinarians on staff are knowledgeable and kind. We were in and out in about an hour with a clean bill of health for both of our pooches. No long wait in the waiting room to pay either - all of that is taken care of inside the treatment room for you. So glad we found this place! read more

My pup has been a patient of North Kenilworth for almost a year now, and it's hands down the best vet we've ever had. This is the first veterinarian office I've ever been to that always feels like they are truly doing nothing but trying to give your pet the very best life. Previously going to the vet always sort of felt a bit like getting an oil change--like someone was going to try to up-sell you and tell you what expensive meds and products you needed to buy from them for your dog. North Kenilworth has always suggested trying the affordable options first. And they always make it clear that they really care about your pet. read more

Where do I even begin! This has been by far the best Veterinary I've ever visited. My dog recently had 13 pups and my regular vet wouldn't see them all at once. At another I was quoted over $1,000 for puppies 1st set of shots. Thank GOD I found North Kenilworth as the entire staff seemed friendly. Everyone had a smile. I also had a small problem getting the puppies out of the car and I called them and 2 staff members came outside promptly to help me. The whole team is awesome. All 13 puppies got their examinations done along with their shots. I recommend this place 100 percent. read more

Due to my animal loving nature, I've been to a lot of veterinarian visits. I spontaneously decided to add an adorable lab puppy into my two cat, one American eskimo dog mix. Which meant, shoe loss, puppy shots and diarrhea. Bailey is silly, rambunctious and tried to leap onto the counter multiple times during our first visit at North Kenilworth. In her defense, the delicious treats were on the counter and she was only 9 weeks old. Our second visit involved less leaping, a pretty offended look at having her temperature taken and an adequate amount of treats. These doctors are kind, understanding, funny and extremely patient. The pricing is very reasonable and I don't leave with depression of dropping a months salary on vet bills. We will continue to visit North Kenilworth as long as they accept the leaping lab! read more

I have been taking both of my pups to this place for a couple years now. Started going here not just due to location since I live close, but especially for the stellar reviews they've received-all which they've lived up to. Dr. Holmes and his staff are kind, professional and reliable. I recently had to take my dog in for a procedure where he was put under anesthesia and most of his teeth removed. Naturally, I was nervous, but it couldn't have gone more successfully. They were communicative, informative and beyond helpful. Also as previously mentioned in other reviews, they have a very accommodating setup where you are ushered into an exam room upon arrival (in fact I have never had to wait in lobby once), the exam and payment are all done from that room. So easy peasy :) I highly recommend this place! read more

Angels work here. The doctors and staff at North Kenilworth deserve more than five stars. After a horrifying experience at another clinic in town they got us right in, discovered my girl's problem and had her in surgery within 24 hours. We have brought our 2 rescued pit mixes here for the last 3-4 years and have come to really love the staff here. Having 2 large dogs who liked to get into scuffles, we visited somewhat often. Unfortunately, the circle of life closed for our 2 pups but the staff here was absolutely outstanding from regular check ups all the way up to their final moments. When we went to other vets, we always felt 'on guard' as most vets pull at your heart strings to try and extract every dollar they can possibly get. This was never the case at this office. Their recommendations were always justified and very reasonably priced. If something was recommended but not totally needed the doctors would always let you know to help you save money. But most importantly, the care they received was always top notch. The staff took as much time as needed to talk things over and visits were never rushed.
