Had an amazing breakfast here today with our granddaughter. There was a short wait for a table inside so we ate on the front porch. There was a wood burning stove lit that kept the porch warm. Food was great, maple syrup was delicious. We stepped into their evaporation room after we ate and received a fun lesson on their maple syrup making operations. Picked up some goodies to go from the shop on our way out. Will definitely return.

The North Hadley Sugar Shack and Market is a Five Star Jewel of a destination! There are so many cool things to experience, so let me get started. First of all is the restaurant, where you can get a reasonably priced very filling breakfast of eggs, pancakes, waffles, etc. Of course, they come with their 100% maple syrup, and some specialty syrups like apple and cider. I ordered one cinnamon and one pumpkin pancake for a measly $2.50 apiece. And believe me, they were pretty big pancakes. Of course, they were terrific and oh so filling. My wife ordered a plain waffle for $5.95 and it was a big full-sized waffle. Breakfast was a total success. In the dining room, you'll see all sorts of displays of merchandise for sale. Lots of toys and books and gift boxes of jams and honeys and of course, and bottles of syrup. I did some early Christmas shopping and scooped up a few bottles of 100% pure maple syrup aged in bourbon barrels for $12.95. On the right side of the dining room you can enter the Evaporation Room where you can learn how maple syrup is made and sample the various syrups and cider donuts. Over on the left side of the dining room is the entrance to the North End Market and Bakery. You can get so much here. There is a bakery for super fresh home-made cider donuts, and all kinds of pies, pastries and cookies. They also have a full deli for sandwiches and such, plus a mini farmers market for produce, all sorts of grocery items, meats, even beer and wine. Pretty much anything you need to feed your face is here, and I'd be severely neglectful if I didn't mention they sell Maple Soft Serv Ice Cream from Mid-May to Mid-October. This was an awesome, awesome, awesome place. Five Stars all the way!

Nothing special about the Sugar Shack other than it was clean, had a modest amount of product and most folks seemed to gravitate toward the ice cream and bakery products. I still think if your are out for a Sunday drive in the area it is worth a visit.

The words local and maple would describe this place. There seemed to be maple syrup and products merchandised At every turn. Unfortunately, I didn't get breakfast at this visit, didn't try the maple ice cream, and didn't get to the petting zoo, because the zoo wasn't open and the Ice cream wasn't available. Mid-March wasn't the time to go I guess, except for syrup. They really focus on local items including, dairy, meats, spices, ice cream, Etc. The bakery is where it's at, with cider donuts, pies, breads, and various forms of Maple glazed everything. Beer and wine for sale. A small deli, grocery, produce, and frozen foods. It is a bit touristy, and you could find yourself buying a North Hadley Sugar Shack T-shirt. Maybe stopping back in late spring or especially fall would be a better bet, to try the ice cream, and see the animals.

The only downside was that they were not boiling the day I was there. : ) OMG so perfect. This place is amazing. The staff was so nice, the syrup was so tasty. The breakfasts were solid. Lots of options, The coffee was really good. Perfect spot for a cold spring (Northeast spring. It was snowing.) morning. We huddled at the table, had warm foods covered in sweet fresh syrup. I am going to bring the kids here soon. There's a farm/explore spot on site. (With Goats! Well, a goat.) I also got a quart of pure syrup, and some amazing apple cider donuts.

So this Farmers market is between OK and Good so I gave it the benefit of the doubt. I think if there were more vendors out here it would be great. Despite the fact that it's kinda small for a farmers market, I was surprised at the variety I saw. Macaroons, ice cream, coffee, produce, flowers, hungry ghost bread, candles, soaps, meats, eggs, hungry ghost bread, polish pastries, handmade jewelry, live music, hand spun wool yarn, did I mention hungry ghost bread? I repeated HGB because they had a line that wouldn't quit. They had 5 different kinds of breads available, plus a couple of cookies for sale. Their bread is the best, there honestly is nothing like it so try it out if they haven't sold out by the time you get there. They had a wheel you could spin for a chance to get discounted or free things and we won a $2 off coupon at the polish pastry tent. We got this savory donut thing (I totally forgot what it's called) filled with squash, potato, cabbage and cheese wow. It was really really good. Picked up some produce where they had a lot of heirloom varieties you definitely wouldn't find in a mass produced supermarket. I ended up getting some watermelon radishes, rainbow carrots, and these funky potatoes that are Ruby red when you cut them. They had some nice live music going as well. Would definitely come back to pick up some goodies.

The ones I particularly patronize are Red Fire Farm (this being, from both its size and the number of its patrons, the market's star) and Hungry Ghost Bread. They often do have live music, and while it's crowded, well ... I'm a veteran of the Haymarket Friday/Saturday pushcarts in Boston, so "crowded" is a matter of perspective. Yes, the prices are as high as one can expect for fresh farm produce and boutique operations, but it isn't as if one can't go to Big Y or Stop & Shop to find poorer quality at a cheaper price. As it happens, they do take SNAP, and while most people on SNAP can't afford to blow their wad on a $6 pint of grape tomatoes or a $7 loaf of bread, the market will double up to $10 a week, which makes these things quite affordable. Last week I left with a pint of tomatoes, a loaf of bread, and a bunch of very tart chives. Finestkind!
