We stopped inside here for our 4th & final stop of 4 on the tour. This place was small inside so there wasn't any place to eat the dumplings, so we just waited outside and ate the dumplings curbside once they were done. The one here had this like herb with sauce it sits in. You dip the dumpling inside the sauce and then get after it, it was very good. We polished off these really quick. Would recommend to anyone who loves dim sum to try them out. read more

I have fond memories of getting dumplings in Chinatown over the years, so when I learned about North Dumpling I was eager to try it. I stopped by on a weekday afternoon, and I did admire the quick service. However, part of the reason for that quickness was that the dumplings were not freshly made. I ordered the chives and pork pan-fried dumplings, and they did not have that crispiness you expect with pan-fried dumplings. Once I ordered, the server removed them from a container near the register, and I wished I could have tried them after they were just fried. I prefer Kikkoman brand for soy sauce. Do not expect Chinese black vinegar as a condiment as this business is not on that ostentatious scale level. Customer service is average. Associates speak English and Mandarin. I did obtain my sales receipt which is written entirely in Chinese. Pork and chive dumplings, 10 pieces @ $4.50 These dumplings were small. Super solid, whole in the wall dumpling spot. Seems to be a pretty well known spot, attracting a pretty diverse crowd. There's a decent amount of seating but it also gets pretty busy. Note that it is cash only but prices are good. There's no AC, but they do have vinegar on every table which is more important. Food comes out pretty quickly and is so fire. We got meat dumplings, beef in sesame bread, and these scallion/glass noodle buns. All of it was very tasty and good to share. They also sell shirts which I thought was funny. Pretty solid spot in Chinatown! We got ten fried dumplings along with wonton soup and beef noodle soup. You get pretty good value here as most if the dishes range in the $4-$8 area. The dumplings were really tasty and you can tell they are authentic and hand made. They went really well with the chili and soy sauce! The wonton soup comes with A LOT of wontons, and a generous amount of noodles and bok choy. The only thing was the noodles were a bit thicker than what I expected and the broth was just okay. North Dumpling is my second favorite dumpling store in Chinatown besides the one on Grand Street. I don't normally get dumplings from here, but I always get the $4 noodle with meat and bean sauce (炸酱面), it is my absolutely favorite from this place. It comes out quick and it has tons of umami flavors of bean sauce with minced pork meat and a little potato bits. The noodles are always fresh here because many other dishes are made with the same noodles. They only accept cash here and it always comes out fast. It is my favorite comfort food and it feels like eating pasta mixed in very flavorful saucey/juicy mixture. This place comes with open seating and you can sit wherever you want as long as there are open tables. Tips are not required but cleaning up after yourself after your meal is definitely encouraged. This kind of courtesy keeps a small business like this running throughout the day. On a cold winter day, I like coming here because it is warm inside and it is usually pretty quiet throughout the day. It's less busy and there is always a seat to eat at peace without feeling like you're in a rush. I definitely recommend this spot for a quick and cheap meal. read more

North Dumpling is very much a no frills dumpling + sesame pancakes eatery parked on Division Street. the menu is not huge: variety of steamed and pan-fried dumplings, a variety of sesame pancake with different fillings, a few noodle soups, and a some other small bites. this location. has a lot more seating than the Essex Street location. the space is fairly worn-in but kept fairly clean. it gets a lot of traffic but turnover is quick so waits for tables aren't too long as this is not a restaurant you linger at for hours. order at the counter and either dine-in or take your eats to go. been here a few times. really liked the steamed vegetable dumplings which tasted pretty fresh. the dumplings had a good amount of seasoned veggie filling that had ginger and garlic accents. the dumpling skins weren't too thick and still held together nicely to make pillowy eats. throw in some soy sauce and sriracha and it was nice savory flavorful steamed bites. really liked the kimchi sesame pancake. not oily. the exterior of the pancake is crispy and flavorfully rich. the inside is filled with a thin layer of spicy kimchi. the sesame pancake is split, so it's basically a sesame pancake sandwich. the inside of the pancake is soft, chewy, and soaks up the kimchi nicely so i got that flavor in each bite. the service is friendly-ish. English seemed a little limited, but not overly so to make ordering difficult as the menu is pretty straightforward. overall, this is a nice casual option in Chinatown when you want consistent quality with no pretensions. btw, this is cash only, but there is an cash machine if you don't have any on hand. read more

The price was amazing, but we went mid afternoon and the pan fried dumplings were already cooked and sitting in a container staying warm and were not fresh or crispy, so there was no pan fry texture to them at all. They were limp and warm. I was probably there at the wrong time, but it would have been nice to have freshly pan fried dumplings that were hot and crispy. I came here on New Years Eve to grab some dumplings. It's a small place though i was able to sit down at one of their few tables. I got 10 dumplings and the price is under $5 so that is great . Flavor was heavy on the ginger but pretty tasty. They have soy sauce and Sriracha to put on it. I got a chive pancake but honestly it just seemed like a sesame pancake with literally 3 pieces of uncooked bok choy in it. No chive. I think they might have gave me the wrong thing. This is one of the better cheap eat places around Chinatown that is not a tourist trap. Forget about Shu Jiao Fu Zhou where it's chaos, or Chang Lai Fishballs which is cramped and tiny, North Dumpling is spacious, clean, and quiet. I'd say it's a place where the locals go for a cheap meal. It operates like a one-stall food court with more affordable prices. You order and pay (cash only) at the counter, go find a place to sit, and you wait for your dishes to be called. Yeah, I don't think they take names or assign numbers lol. Once you finish, you take your bowls and plates to the counter, or you can leave them at the table but you'd better tip accordingly. Their menu is more extensive than the aforementioned SJFZ or CLF, meaning it's less specialized. That said, the name sake does has the word "dumpling" in it, so we did order the potstickers which only come with one combination of fillings: pork and chives. The order came with 10 potstickers for $4. Great deal and you don't have to stand at the street corners to enjoy. Each table have soy sauce, vinegar, and chili sauce. Another thing to note is they supply forks instead of chopsticks. They probably do have chopsticks but we didn't bother to ask because everyone (all Chinese) used forks while we were there. Potstickers were good. We also asked for an order of Chive Pancakes - $3 for 2. While good, I've had better ones in Flushing. The filling was less full nor as tasty. Overall, I would recommend this place as part of your Chinatown food crawl. read more

Delicious dumplings in the heart of Chinatown. A friend of mine recommended I give them a try. She told me auntie at North Dumpling on Division Street makes some great dumplings and I've got to say she was right. Auntie was super sweet, my transaction was very fast because the menu is small but everything was delicious and super affordable. The wonton noodle soup was lightly seasoned and not overly salted like most places I've tried. A big container cost me $6.50. The dumplings were also tasty, not the best I've had but definitely great at $4.00 for 10 of them. Spring rolls and scallion pancakes, also very delicious. Friendly service and an unbeatable value at $4 for 10 dumplings. Unfortunately, the dumplings themselves were a little lackluster for me. Honestly panfrying frozen Wei Chuan at home come out better than the fried dumplings here. They were just a bit soggy and missing the crispy texture that I am accustomed in panfried dumplings (esp if they all stick together). The boiled dumplings are probably the better choice. With that said, if your main objective is to get full for cheap, then North Dumplings might be your spot. read more

Management has clearly changed and they're extremely disrespectful to customers (even when the store is empty) and the prices keep going up. I have to agree with all the other posters that the value for money that North Dumpling offers is unbeatable. It's a little take out store front devoid of any and all ambiance which is how it should be for a place located just on the edge of Chinatown. The service is rough with primarily Mandarin Chinese speakers, but that's expected...in fact even welcomed for the value. However, I have to disagree with some of the other reviewers that the food isn't really that good. I've had dumplings all over the world and I consider it one of my favorite foods so I had high expectations going in. Maybe that's where I was wrong as I started from a position of expectation rather than just experience. However, either way the food just wasn't that good. The pork and chive dumpling pan fried was oily with a rough skin that while freshly made lacked the elasticity of a good skin. Plus the filling was devoid of any and all chive flavor, rather it felt like pork with some type of pickled vegetable. I also ordered the noodles with beef and black bean sauce. That was a major disappointment as it felt like they were using off the shelf udon noodles with a black bean sauce that left a chalky after taste, so the food didn't add up. However, it's hard to complain when the entire meal came out to be $12 plus tax. For me, the value is there but the expectation needs to be lowered and if you proceed this way then I think you can get your moneys worth at this location. read more

North Dumpling certainly fits that mold and is the quintessential place that is good in terms of the quality of food and affordable in terms of price due to the simple setup. I've been here a couple of times to get an order of their fried pork and chive dumpling. Both times were pretty good and tasty. Service was quick. The space itself is pretty authentic, homey/mom and pop feel as you can see the dumplings being made in the back. The place itself is a bit of a walk from the main stretch of Chinatown but I would recommend venturing out to try it. read more

Hidden gem in Chinatown! It's a cold windy day and I'm hungry looking for something warm and delicious to eat. I passed by this dumpling spot and decided to give it a try. Wow, decent pricing for a good amount of dumplings. You can get either steamed or panfried dumplings. I ordered both and also got the chives pancakes. The food is cooked after you place the order so there's a 5-10 minutes wait. When the food is ready, the employee will call you to the counter to pick it up. This is for take out and sit-in orders. In my 30 minutes stay, I noticed the large number of people coming in ordering to go. This spot is popular for the locals I guess. There's some tables and it fills up pretty fast and that's probably why people order to go. I recommend this dumpling spot. They also have noodles and many other dishes. If you're looking for a ma and pa shop that is cheap, local and new look no further! I love trying out new dumpling places in the area! I ordered their pork dumpling noodle soup. I like how the noodles seem similar to hand pull noodles and the soup had bok choy in them. All this was for only $6.50! The dumplings meat is flavor with some red coding and you can taste the chives. I didn't even had to use soy sauce while the dumplings were in the soup. This place was packed with tourists and people who watched TikTok, YouTube, etc... I don't particularly like Mike Chen but I watched his video a few days ago...other influencers also recommended this place...they all said the dumplings here are so good especially for the price, so I definitely had to see if it was all hype. I ordered fried dumplings, noodles with bean sauce and a pancake with pork. I also got the chive pancakes at the end. The best thing to get...def the pancake with pork. Really crispy, lots of flavor. If I were to ever... come back here I'm ordering this again but I didn't really care for the other items. The fried dumplings were okay.
