The flavors are so different than any local chinese restaurant. And they serve stir fry bok choi....I don't see that near my side of where I live. They are very nice and they will serve you at your table....It is very small and clean. The prices are so reasonable for the area CASH ONLY. I always will go for the 12piece dumplings. And it's so different because the juices are inside the dumpling so when you bite down you get all the flavor. Now, I have a soft spot for small neighborhood joints--especially on the Lower East Side, where I grew up. I came home craving some good old late-night takeout: shrimp fried rice and chicken wings. What I got instead was something straight out of a health department horror story. First red flag? Cash only. Second? The rat parade I witnessed--dozens running from a filthy lot next door into an open grate right in front of the spot what seemed to be a stock room. That told me all I needed to know, but I was already there and starving, so I went in. Inside, it got worse. Boxes stacked everywhere, what looked like cross-contamination waiting to happen, and a cook who had just come back from a delivery, didn't wash his hands, and was casually eating half a watermelon with a spoon before jumping on the grill. The prep station? No actual food--just stock boxes and random ingredients tossed around. I didn't see a single apron, a proper sink, or any signs of sanitary practices. It looked like a scene from a restaurant rescue show--before the rescue. I know I'm going to get killed for this review--especially if this is a beloved neighborhood spot--but I'm sorry. What I saw was enough for me. The whole operation screams health code violation, and honestly, it feels criminal that they're still allowed to operate. Handmade, hand pulled, hand cut, hand pressed noodles. My recommendation is the cumin noodles or the spicy beef noodles. I opted to eat this non spicy garlic noodles. Food is cooked by the owners. Hidden secret, family run neighborhood joint serving up delicious, authentic Chinese food. Their steamed pork dumplings are juicy & flavorful with a nice textured skin, and their chicken wings surprisingly are fantastic. Crispy without being overly fried, and a nice savory bite. I got the beef noodle soup, and I tried a bite of my friend's pork noodle soup and another's cumin lamb stir-fried noodles. All of them had immense flavor (but maybe there was MSG), so I enjoyed it a lot. The beef noodle soup was a tad too salty though. There's not much space to sit here, as it's definitely a whole in the wall. Order and pay first then food will get served to you. Definitely recommend! I remember coming her after my Gouveneur's rotation and getting beef noodles and dumplings in the autumn and freezing cold winter. It is definitely worth checking out. Forever Taste has new ownership! I've been there twice over the past month and now there's 4 people consistently working at the restaurant, a big improvement over the previous seemingly one-man shop. There are a few noticeable changes: 1. The seating configuration is now three tables seating, 4 persons each. 2. There is now a large sign board with picture squares of their different types of dishes. Prices are still cheap with entrees ranging from $3 to $7. Entrees are mainly soup noodle dishes, dumpling entrees and stir-fried dishes. 3. There are about 4 different types of dumplings available. I saw pork and chive, pork and cabbage, vegetarian and one other which I couldn't remember. Most are still 5 for $1. 4. Frozen dumplings are available at $10 for 50. The great thing here is that food here is cooked to order, with the exception of the pan-fried dumplings which should have high turnover. I also saw the thick scallion bread and some fried rice and noodles in their steamer. Finally, their sign board also shows fried chicken. I am assuming that this is made to order because I didn't see a heated food glass cabinet behind the cashier. I have only tried the fried pork and chive dumpling and the boiled dumplings with chili oil. Both dishes are more than decent, so I would definitely come back. I have to admit that although the English is very limited for the cashier, I was still able to communicate by pointing, and with the use of my limited Mandarin. I opted for Beef noodle soup (only $3) but the owner said, in Chinese, that he didn't have it that day but he then pointed out what I should have or what's available so I got #24. It was zhajiangmian (jajangmyeon in Korean). For only $2.50, it was enormous, definitely enough for two to three person. It was fully packed in a styrofoam container (see photo). Glossy dark yummy looking sauce didn't not make me smile unfortunately. Frozen vegetables tasted off but I liked the noodle (ramen noodle?). It was chewy and bouncy. I was in a mood to venture outer part of East Chinatwon that's rapidly growing and I found this place that was next to the projects. The area is till very mixed, Asian, Black and Spanish.
