This store should be a customer service model for all businesses. The minute you walk in someone asks if they can help you find something. The staff is always knowledgable about whatever you ask of them. This store always seems to have whatever I need. Some items are a little pricier than the big stores but I've also found many times their prices were cheaper than Lowes - and it is certainly worth the convenience of not having to drive to Huber Heights or Trotwood. They are liars!! Took 2 propane tanks (which still had propane in them) to get topped off before they closed and they charged me for full tanks!! Rip offs!! The one tank was still hooked to my heater running before it took it too them!! read more

This review is not for the hardware store but the U-Haul part of their business. My recommendation: there are other more reputable U-Haul and truck rental companies in the area. Still want to rent from them? Do yourself a favor, check the odometer making sure it's the same starting mileage as the recorded one on the contract. If you find a discrepancy, know you're not alone. Because of their incompetence I got charged an additional 50 miles! read more

WOW! I was in line also and witnessed the problems the uhaul guy was having that morning. Too bad C.C.'s review didn't mention the nasty attitude he and his friend had from the get go 'cause he had to wait a few min. They loudly verbally attacked the uhaul guy as soon as they were greeted and many times telling him he was incompetent while being waited on. Sorry he didn't get his trailer .. a couple of us in line were glad he didn't. When it was our turn, the uhaul guy was as efficient and respectful as could be - considering the earlier shake up. Anyhow - just a different point of view on the subject. I will be back as a customer. read more

I drive from Huber Heights to shop in this store. I go there partly because they carry items that I don't see in other stores. I love this store because they are always friendly and willing to help. I always feel welcome. I like that it is small and you don't have to walk a mile to get to what you need. read more

Terrible customer service. I called to see if they had heat tape. They had one left and held it for me. When I walked in the door they immediately gave it to me after I told them that I had it on hold. I ended up not needing it and so I bring it back a week later, unopened, receipt and all. Manager proceeded to tell me that it a non returnable item (for no good reason). Refused to make an exception even knowing that I hadnt seen the sign because I didn't walk back to get it since it was just given to me from behind the counter... How would I have known it was not returnable? No one told me the policy. The manager couldn't ever look me in the face because he knew it was bullshit. Ridiculous. I will not be coming back to this store ever again. read more

We've been using this hardware store for years when we need quick items for our business. They're local, friendly, helpful, and best of all, they keep most common use items in stock. I don't know about the U-haul portion of the business in the other portion of the review, but I'd recommend looking over any contract before you sign it. I've been shopping at this store since before is was a Do-It-Best franchise. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. The only issue I've ever encountered is sometimes the stock is a bit low. Outside of that, they are my first choice whenever I have a project. Purchases usually include tools, lawn treatment and accessories, paint (lots of paint) and painting accessories. I've even rented a U-Haul or two. Never an issue and I highly recommend. read more

I wanted to let you know that Butch at the Do It Best Hardware on North Dixie Drive in Vandalia, Ohio was very rude and inconsiderate to my wife and I on April 2nd 2015. We went in the store to purchase various items at 7:45. At around 7:50, I ask if he would be able to make a cut on a threaded screw. He said back to me, "I can, but I am not going to stay over to do it for you". I thought that was very rude and I will not be coming back to that store ever again. I go there for the customer service and I have never been treated so poorly at a hardware store! read more

Never in my life have I gone to the local hardware store that they refused to re-shake a gallon of paint and lose additional sales. I try to give the local guy a chance and avoid the big box stores but I guess with service like this how can you, might as well get the poor service at the big box and save money. read more

I was in the store around the end of April. I noticed they sell screen. I asked an employee if they install it in doors and how much he told me about $25 to $28 dollars. I asked if that included the Pet screen. He said yes or a couple dollars more. I said Great. In a week or so I return with it and drop it off to install. They called a couple weeks later and when I return the Price is now $47.50 plus tax. I asked about it and and explained what I was told. The fellow said too bad that's the price and asked if I had a written quote! As if the local Hardware guys do that. We discussed it a few mins in front of several customers and he would not budge, so I asked for the Mgr. Turns out this "rude" guy says he is the Mgr. I said then you need to make this right. He says sorry that's the price. So I told him to rip the screen out I will do it myself. so he rips it out as if he won the battle. He Just cost his company a good customer as I was buying there often. Good Customer service is the only way a small local store can compete with the box stores. Sadly Arrogant and stupid people will be the downfall of many nice little local places. But $10.00 was what it cost me to do it myself. He got to throw away several dollars worth of screen and made the store no money. If I owned the place he would be fired. I was sincere about my encounter and he practically called me a liar. I would be giving "0" stars if that was an option. Had a REALLY BAD experience at this store - it was with the U-Haul rental, but the store's manager was the one "running" the U-Haul desk. Our reservation to pick up a 6x12 trailer was for 10 am. We arrived at the store early at 9:15 am and found one couple ahead of us in the U-Haul line, but nobody was at the desk waiting on them. After about 5 minutes I asked them if there was somebody working the U-Haul desk and helping them. They said the store was having credit card problems. It turns out that the U-Haul system was fine, but the manager, Mike, was at the store's register a few feet away working on trying to fix the credit card system. He worked on the store's system for 45 minutes - during which time we asked other employees if somebody could help us with U-Haul, but they all said only Mike could do that. We waited. At roughly 10 am Mike finally gave up on the store's credit card system and came over to the U-Haul desk. He helped the couple in front of us and then it was our turn - now 10:07 am. All would have been fine, but Mike was completely rude to us. He was impatient with me in providing contact information, he was upset that he had to walk out to see my hitch rating because I only knew it was over 5,000 lbs, not that it was precisely 7,500, and because we were paying cash, he seemed annoyed that we didn't understand we then had to go to the store's cashier to check out. My son was with me and saw a sign on the counter saying something like "Your reservation is guaranteed - What you want, ON TIME, or we'll give you $50." Because of all the attitude Mike was giving us, my son asked him about getting our $50 for him being late. Mike just said, "That isn't going to happen" and my son let it drop and went to pay the cashier. While he was paying Mike had me sign the contract papers and was mumbling about how he had done everything he could. I simply said, "No, you could honor your sign and refund us the $50." He responded by saying I could call 1-800-GO-UHAUL and complain, but to be sure to tell them he was only seven minutes late. It gets worse. Mike walked into the parking lot to hook us up and stood in front of a 6x12 trailer. I proceeded to back up toward that trailer and as I did, Mike stepped over to the next trailer. I thought he was just moving out of the way, but as I continued to back up he started hollering that I was going to the wrong trailer. He now wanted me to back up to the one he had moved to. I pulled forward and started back toward that trailer, but I saw Mike gesture that everything was off and he strode back into the store. My son, who had been standing out with Mike told me that he was now refusing to rent to us because when he moved over and then hollered at me, my son said to him that his customer service was awful. Which it was. Bottom line... Mike was rude, and then left us high and dry without a trailer. We had to call around to other U-Haul dealers to find an available trailer at the last minute...which we did at Vacs and Videos in Huber Heights. They were very pleasant and helpful there. Not a big fan of Mike, and won't be doing any business with North Dixie Hardware ever again. read more
