No mess, quick pump and inspection, and they left everything spotless in my backyard (even with all the plants and stuff around the access point). Communication was top-notch from start to finish--morning check-in texts, heads-up when they were en route, and a call number if needed. I would never do that on this or any project since I am a homeowner, not a contractor. I was looking to hire a Deck/pergola/fence/drainage builder who takes accountability and responsibility for the build. As I understand it, CSLB (Contractor's State Licensing Board) and City La Mesa define Owner/Builder as someone who either builds entire project by him or herself or subcontracts a licensed contractor, thereby employing that licensed contractor and therefore creating a W2 for that licensed contractor and therefore taking full liability for that licensed contractor's work. That would be impossible for me to do since I don't have/never have had a Contractor's License, nor have I ever been formally educated in the field. If I was a contractor, I would do the build myself. I am a homeowner, not a contractor.
