I imagine this would be a nice place to come on a date, but I agree with the comments about travelling distance. So, let's say a nice place to go for a date if you live/work in the area. A classy dark wood interior, absolutely rammed with people on the Tuesday evening that I visited. Rustic dining room upstairs, with wipe-clean red gingham tablecloths and, curiously, thick teatowels as napkins. The downstairs bar and area and upstairs room were both candlelit and cosily atmospheric. An impressively long menu with an entire side of tapas dishes. A bit on the pricey side (especially the veggie items). Two of us shared beatroot in sherry with goats cheese and almonds and a platter of cured Spanish meats, with a stumpy tumbler of white wine *spritzer* each, and it set us back £28. The cured meats were very tasty, but I've yet to eat cured meat which wasn't, and at £10 for an A5 sized board full, I'd bloomin' hope so. The accompanying bowl of egg, gherkin and parsley was pleasant, but the proportions were wrong; it needed more gherkin and parsley sharpness, and a little hit of vinegar would have helped. Egg heavy as it was, it was too rich to cut through the fattiness of the meat, so it added to the richness rather than adding a complimentary sharp note, rendering the little bowl actually rather pointless. The beatroot was warm and served in satisfyingly thick chunks. A tasty tapas dish, but again, it's hard to bugger up goats cheese and beatroot really, good friends that they are. I didn't get much of a sherry hit, and the toasted almonds were a little lost. I think some more seasoning is all that this dish needed to bring the components together and shift it from 'mmm' to 'oooOOF'. read more

My friend and I went to this pub to relax and wind down after spending the whole day in London. We sat at the outside area of the pub, but we did go inside. Although I did not eat the food since we were already full from eating at other places in the city that did not stop us from getting some drinks. We both got a couple pints of Sagres, which was a fairly refreshing beer. It was also fairly quiet for a pub on an early Saturday night, which I was surprised, but I guess that's because the people don't come out until a little later. Despite the quietness, I really liked the cosy atmosphere and the interior really made it look like a nice and clean English Pub. On the window, there appeared to be some thighs of pigs hanging, which reminded me of those market counters that sell ham in Spain. Overall, I would not mind coming back to this pub if I am in the Bloomsbury neighbourhood even though it's fairly distant from the British Museum. I would probably order some of their Spanish style tapas to see how London does in terms of tapas outside of Spain. read more

On our last night in London my wife and I decided to get lost to find a hidden gem. To locals this might not be hidden (as the place was packed) but to us it was not near a main road so it was by chance that we found it. My wife has been on the hunt for beef roast with Yorkshire pounding. They had it and she ordered it. I was having a hard time because everything sounded so good so I ask for a recommendation and the waiter said "you should both have the roast beef." The beef was tender, the veggies were good, the au jou was fantastic! The only thing is the service could have been as fantastic as the food. Not bad but not great. Highly recommend! read more

I took some visiting family members back in December for lunch. The downstairs area was full, and we were quoted a wait time, but when we turned to leave they opened up the upstairs dining room (which quickly filled up with more diners as we got settled). The service was average until we received our drinks and food, after which point we were left sitting for an extended period waiting to request a bill. We ordered tapas, and, while some plates were better than others, all were tasty and didn't go uneaten. The fresh bread basket with a variety of loaves hit the spot right away. The onions in a balsamic glaze were particularly enjoyable. The tapas dishes paired surprisingly well with the reasonably priced bottle of house red. I would go again, but that might have something to do with the fact that it's within short walking distance of my flat. I might even make a special trip otherwise, but I wouldn't quite go as far as to say it deserves the five-star rating above. read more

This review is simple. It is based on how far you would travel to go to this pub. I got a cab here from Smithfields. That was too far. This is a 5 minute walk kind of place as the food just doesn't go beyond that. The American friends I brought loved the interior (which is beautiful) but thankfully the jet lag stopped them properly critiquing the food as I thoroughly let them down with my choice of restaurant. read more

1 visit: 3/5 I went here on a Friday night. It was very busy so we couldn't sit inside. They have picnic tables outside with heat lamps, but it was still very cold. When I went inside to get drinks I found it very cramped but the décor was nice and contemporary. Service was a bit slow (inattentive bartenders). I saw that they do food and seem to specialise in cured meats, but I didn't have any. They have a good selection of beers on tap including a couple of ales. All in all I won't be going out of my way to come back to this pub. Even if it were quieter, it still doesn't have the welcoming, comfortable atmosphere that I look for in a pub. read more

Norfolk Arms says it serves "excellent modern English food in a tapas style" but it felt like a Spanish joint to me. Ham legs hang in the front window, greeting you as you enter, cured meats are strung behind the bar, and the blackboard touts sherries. The menu is obscenely large - more than 30 tapas plates are listed on one side of the card while the other was full of starters, a handful of mains, and dessert. I ordered the Ploughmans, which had a steep price of £11. Slices of baked ham were spread out to cover the wooden board and heavily drizzled with olive oil. A ramekin of chicken liver pate was the star of the plate and I thickly covered slices of bread with it until it was gone. The cheddar had a bit of a bite and made the uninteresting ham a little more palatable. Olives and capers were served on the side. My husband splurged on the pata negra (acorn fed iberico black leg pig) with manchego because it's almost impossible for him to refuse iberico ham. It was served with three huge wedges of manchego and the slices of pata negra were also covered in olive oil. He ordered the babaganoush with pitta bread as well and the dip was seriously lacking. It begged for a little lemon juice...anything really to elevate it from mere aubergine paste. When we left Norfolk Arms, I felt like I had a mouth full of olive oil. My lips \were greasy and my gums seemed to have a 1mm coat of sheen on them. As I said, the menu is huge, so it's possible that there are items Norfolk Arms does very well. Or, it could be another place that tries too hard to please too many people and ends up selling everyone a bit short. read more

It's a pub! But it's a tapas place! It's a pub! BUT IT'S A TAPAS PLACE! What a delight you are, Norfolk Arms! Although they do have larger plates (see: rotating menu, but standards like roast chicken and pork with crackling) the key here is to explore their tapas and 'boards' selections. In the case of the latter we're talking a meat board with four types of charcuterie, a cheese board accompanied by some perfectly crumbly oat biscuits, a fish board with salmon, mackerel and eel, and a veggie antipasto board which was the stunner of them all: marinated artichokes, and slivers of seasoned carrots, hummus, babaganoush, green salad and pita wedges. WE WERE NOT BORED WITH THE BOARDS, NAAAAHMEAN? After killing those we also tucked in to some paprika-doused pork belly. Also delicious looking (though untested by this gal): chicken wings, wedges of tortilla, cod fritters. Great vibe here: no rush, nice buzz, not too loud even if your roll up on 8pm Saturday night reservations. Yelp note: only slight grumble because their Aperol spritz tasted off, proportions-wise. Forgivable offence. Will just have to try it again. read more

I am so impressed by this place. First, the manager was kind enough to provide takeaway boxes for me and even wrapped the peppers stuffed with cheese in aluminium foil so they wouldn't drip through the box. I also got the Blue cabrales bruschetta, toasted walnut, wild thyme honey and whilst the flavour was phenomenal and the cheese portion generous, I was a bit disappointed it was all on only one piece of bread. For about 6 pounds, I think three pieces should be given with slightly less cheese on each. Otherwise relaxed atmosphere when arrived early evening last Friday. read more

What a great find in Bloomsbury. We are new to London but wanted to take some visitors out for a mid-week meal somewhere central. Found this little place on the Timeout website. It looks like a typical pub but the focus is on the food - primarily a HUGE selection of different tapas. We shared six tapas between the six of us and all went away happy. Recommend the ham croquettes, amazing! The meal came to £80 for four people with tapas and two bottles of wine. read more

We ate here a couple of weeks ago and found it average at best. Its disappointing to me as we purposely sought it out for dinner that night. We visit Spain a lot and love tapas - we accept that when you get it in the UK usually you will pay more than Spain. However the prices here are steep even for London for what you actually get. The service was spotty we felt like we were an inconvenience to the waitress who set me up with a tab at the bar showed us to a table took the order then told us they closed in 20 mins. The tapas itself was as uninspiring as it gets - low on imagination and taste. I will be back in Euston soon - doubt I will be back here though. read more

Attractive, but ultimately typical and uninspired, gastropub. Quite small, there is not much space to dwell if you are not eating, which to me makes it a restaurant/bar, certainly not a pub. The hope of something interesting to drink was immediately dashed as an empty glass was rammed onto the Theakstons XB pump as soon as we tried to order it. A relatively new gastro pub which apparently does good food, which I have yet to try but am very eager to. I came after a hearty meal with my dad at the North Sea Fish, just opposite, and we just wanted to sit and enjoy a some quiet drinks, and he Norfolk Arms on the quiet Leigh Street was just right for it. They do a good list of wines, in which we each had a glass of their house white and nibbled on some bar snacks. They do a great tapas list from the bar, with such dishes as tortilla, chickpea and tomato stew, hummus and pita, and the list just goes on long and delicious. Their main food menu, which constantly changes, looks decidedly delicious and comforting. There main dishes are pretty reasonable for what they serve, from 10.50 to 12.50. They serve a hearty slow roast suckling pig stuff with black pudding and cox apple, served with root vegetable mash and anise jus. Roast Welsh black beef, roast potato, parsnip, carrots, and Yorkshire pudding. They do a choice of fish from a whole seabass, fish pie or a grilled smoked haddock, as well as a vegetarian option of roasted trip of pumpkins with saffron quinoa and taleggio. Their dessert menu looks just as good with such things as Christmas pudding ice cream with crushed amaretti, rhubarb bramley apple and rosemary crumble with custard, chocolate and brandy truffles. read more

I went to the Norfolk Arms for dinner with four people. We shared tapas. The food was good - not amazing, but not bad. Very average for London, but the prices were reasonable. The portion sizes were good, and two-three dishes each was enough. I particularly liked the spare ribs with crackling, and the salted cod. Service was also average. We were sat in a corner near the back, and at times we felt like we had been forgotten. But the staff were friendly and attentive. Unfortunately we weren't able to sit outside (there were quite a few tables, but they were taken). It was a hot summers day, and quite warm inside, but not unbearably so. In short, I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again, but it will be an option when I'm in the Kings Cross area. read more

Have walked past late every night as commuter and generally always busy so went for late Sunday food (served until 10pm) when staying over. 2 beers well served (GreeneKing and Theakstons) and 4 lagers. Large tapas menu mostly priced £5.50 and 'roast' £12.50. The roast (Welsh lamb) was served in medium sized tapas bowl with a very (!) rich gravy. Pretty good but maybe a few pounds overpriced. Would return but stick with the tapas next time. Very much a sit down pub (good street side areas) as no room at the bar to stand. Good standard of service with pleasant staff. read more

I found it a delight to be in, very relaxed, but at the same time feeling spoilt with fine wines and the most delicious fish pie I have ever had, and I've had a few. As a sea food junkie I can definitely recommend this place. If you have an hour to spare at Euston, its definitely worth a look in. read more

During one of my first nights in the city, and while I lived across the street from the pub, I was kept awake by a loud clarinet player, who had clearly partaken in the libations inside the place, so a few days later I decided to check the place out and I was not disappointed. The evening menu is fancy - plenty of seafood and roasts, all deliciously cooked, although it's pricier than most pubs (see website for menu and prices). This is a fantastic pub with very nice food. We went after work on Friday to celebrate our office moving day over several bottles of wine and lots and lots of yummy tapas. This is not the place for typical pub food (i.e. my favorite thing of all time which is bacon and cheese wedges), but there are plenty of options. For example we ordered (and don't laugh, there were lots of us) the homemade bread and butter, spanish cheese board, spanish cured meats, olives, tortilla, scotch eggs, chorizo, calamari, chicken liver pate and patatas alinadas. My personal favorites were the tortilla, the meats (the dipping sauce they came with was to DIE for), the patatas and the scotch egg (but you really can't go wrong with a scotch egg now can you??) We could nit pick here and there about a couple of things (calamari was too salty) but over all it was very tasty. For drinks we went through lots of the rioja which was a great choice at only £14.50 a bottle. Make sure to order that one (which is on the chalk board) and not the more expensive rioja on the wine list. I would definitely come back for mains sometime because this place serves a lot of seafood and there was a fish stew that day that looked and smelled unbelieveable and they do a pretty fancy version of a fish pie. Plus the pudding list is quite extensive ranging from sticky toffee pudding to pedro ximenez cheesecake. All for pretty reasonable prices. If you've got a group or want to eat, make a reservation or go early because it does fill up (at least it did on Friday). My only request going forward is that the staff be required to take happy pills. Rodrigo, our server, was nice, but the guys behind the bar ranged from grumpy to just plain rude. If you can ignore them, however, you're in for a fun night! read more

I've been here a couple of times now mid-week after work - being minutes walk from Kings Cross it's a great location if you're meeting up with someone and coming from/heading home in different directions and both passing through the area. The first time I went given the name I was expecting a fairly traditional British pub, but instead it has a strong Spanish vibe, with cured meets hanging from the ceiling, and of course, the tapas menu. It seems very popular and was crowded with people on both occasions, so there's a lively bustling atmosphere. It means the staff can seem a bit frantic - we had to chase up the status of our drinks order once, but otherwise I thought the service was very efficient. Unless you can get there early doors I would recommend calling ahead and booking a table as there's very little standing space at the bar to have a drink and wait for one to become free. I haven't eaten from the main menu but would definitely recommend the tapas menu which has a decent selection of tasty dishes perfect for sharing. My friend and I shared 7-8 of the small plates and a bottle of wine and when it came to settling up I was pleasantly surprised as I thought it seemed pretty reasonable. I will certainly look forward to going again. read more

But am afraid we all wanted to like this place more than we actually did. Service OK; tapas menu v extensive but the tapas themselves were average; they completely forgot to bring one dish but charged us for it still (we couldn't be bothered to complain); not a particularly brilliant atmosphere and, most importantly, the non-tapas lunchtime menu was really short and quite uninspiring. I could imagine liking this in the evening if you wanted drinks and tapas only. However I don't really see this as a gastro-pub at all. Shame. read more

What an absolute cracker, a veritable oasis of class and taste, hidden amongst the flotsam and jetsam of Euston. Without question a gastro pub, rather than a drinkers pub but with so much reasonably priced, quality and inspiring food on offer, neither would be disappointed were they to stumble across it in need of sustenance. A terrific, well thought out tapas menu, including the finest iberican pata negra hams, various chorizo dishes, and wonderful seafood (marinated octopus and boquerones I can never resist) are complemented by hearty mains such as roast belly pork with mash and fennel or the most heavenly fish pie with pollock, haddock, salmon, plaice, brown shrimps, prawn, crab, scallops and saffron cream topped with cheddar cheese mash. On a liquid note, an excellent and well priced European (predominately Spanish) wine list is accompainied by a reasonable collection of real ales (if you like the Greene King collection) and Spanish lagers.
