Like many other clients of this company, my experience has dramatically soured with time. The last "treatment" that Paul did to our home he sent his brother, who pushed in a AC water exhaust pipe into the house before screening the vent he was working on. The result was that, the following fall, when we started using the AC, the exhaust pipe, now inside the walls, flooded the downstairs part of the house and destroyed all the carpets and floors. The repairs cost a major amount of money. The following year I called Paul for further services, and mentioned, in passing, the fact that I absolutely did not want his brother involved in any future work in the house. Paul suddenly showed altered behavior and became not only hostile but also paranoid, somehow seeming to think that this was part of a purposeful campaign against him. Despite his alarming behavior, I still asked him to come back for more work---I wanted to give his new company a chance. He never showed to his appointment, although he had told me he might be late and please to wait for him. When I contacted him to find out if he was still coming, he first denied that he had ever set an appointment---then, later, sent a weird text saying he had "tried" to come, totally contradicting his first one, and accusing me of hostility (!). I still have the screenshots. By then it was clear he was not a trustworthy person, and I gave up on him. His response below is a good example of his earlier behavior: denial, and wild accusations that people are making things up against him. Why would anyone want to do that? WARNING. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. The owner Paul Connell of Norcal Rodent took my money for a job that he refused to finish. I contacted repeatedly by text and phone requesting he finish the job. He became verbally aggressive, cussing, and threatened my family and me with physical harm. I had to find another company to finish the job. If you read his google reviews he has a history of taking money from clients and not finishing the work and then becoming verbally abusive and very threatening. I subsequently spoke with another contractor who used to employ him and he said the same thing. He apparently has a long history of similar behavior. Also, I can find no evidence this company has a proper business license. read more

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH PAUL! Paul is one of the most unprofessional people I have ever worked with. He showed up late every single day, and not just minutes late, hours late. When we brought up our frustrations about having to repeatedly rearrange our schedules to wait for him and accommodate the times he says he's going to be there, his response was, "Well, I'm never on time anywhere I go so..." BEWARE! Paul will give you a low ball offer just to get the job and then at the end of the day he'll double the price. Despite quoting $2,200, we ended up paying close to $4,000, and the job remains unfinished, with ongoing issues yet to be resolved. We were very patient and understanding with Paul the whole time with his bag full of excuses and habitually talking in circles over us, however when I declined Paul's offer to buy me dinner because he "wanted to make me happy" he then told me me to "Get f*cked!" and hung up on me. Following this, Paul threatened to discontinue service if I did not remove my Yelp review and told us to "take him to court" if we had an issue with it. Lucky for Paul, I am a practicing attorney, but unlucky for me, I still have to deal with this a little longer. read more

Paul originally came to my home in January 2023 to address some rodent issues. He was extremely professional, efficient, and communicative when talking about the issues and proposed solutions. He completed the job within the matter of one day and then walked me through the improvements both during and after his work was completed. Once he finished, he came back a week later to check-in on the work to ensure there were no new rodents. Again, complete professional. Over 18 months later, we needed to call Paul again due to a new rodent issue. He was extremely responsive and helped us out immediately. I had the worst experience with Paul who visited our place for inspection. This is the most rude experience I have had in sometime with the company having no value and respect for customers. He visited our place, had a chat with my father (who does understand english), instead of being polite he said things like: "I have been to many places but have never come across a home where someone does not respond to my good morning". He said many other rude things which I do not expect to listen as your customer. I would not recommend someone to this company which cannot respect elderly people. Paul and Rodrigo saved my sanity. On one of Concord's oh so delightful 100+ degree heat waves, our house started to smell. "Smell" really isn't the best term, as it turns out something died in the crawlspace oh so conveniently underneath my toddler's room and by our front door. Ahhhh Paul. Please be warned. Paul is a mansplaner. He quoted me $2200 and the end result was $4000. Unfortunately my uncle in such grief, he paid it. He has absolutely no respect for women. I arranged him to help me out when my aunty was dying in the hospital. I am a property manager so I'm very familiar with multiple companies to provide services. After I scheduled appointments where he was hours late for his appointments. Then his laborers showed up even later. He had an issue with my cousin who was allowing access to the home. I called to nicely resolve the issue. He told me to "shut up and listen bitch". I advised him that is not how you talk business. He then set me straight he would not continue business with my uncle and canceled our agreement. I am now in the process of legal arrangements to recoup our losses for what the contract agreed to and he didn't fulfill. Such a sad situation supplying a self employed company. While doing some minor renovations to my new house, I discovered rats had chewed through one of the ducts. We replaced the ducts but I had no idea if this was a recent rodent issue or an old issue that was already addressed and it was just that the duct was never replaced. I got several quotes from different vendors and they all gave me very different recommendations as to what type of work should be done. During the site visit, Paul was very thorough figuring out where the holes were that the rats were using to get into the house and went into the attic, crawl space, and under the deck to confidently assess to extent of the problem. None of the other vendors went into that much detail to give me a quote so Paul immediately gave me a good impression. In terms of the work Paul quoted me for, he said that it didn't look like a major rodent infestation. There were holes going into the house but although there were definitely a few rats based off the droppings, it didn't seem major. He said that the most cost effective thing to do would be to proof the entire house and then optionally clean out the crawl space and attic. He was very honest in that the cleaning part was recommended but not required since once the house is proofed the rats can't come in anyway. I really appreciated that as another vendor had said that I had to re-blow all of the insulation in the attic to fix the problem! I accepted his quote and he and his crew was able to come out same week. They were very thorough in their work, including getting to all of the tough to reach spots under the deck and even sealing off all holes on the roof! They laid traps out to catch the existing rats in the house and said they would come back every week until no more rats are caught. At the time of writing they came back once to check traps and already caught 1 rat. Paul has been a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend his services. I really try to only write reviews for businesses when I have a positive experience, because I recognize that most small business owners could really be hurt by a negative review. However, after my most recent experience with Paul, I feel I have to write this to caution others against taking a risk with this company. Obviously, Paul gets many five-star reviews, but if you scroll through, you will see at least a couple of other people whose reviews describe EXACTLY the kind of experience I've had. You might get the good Paul who works hard and does good work, or you might get the unstable, volatile Paul who will go off on you and accuse you of all kinds of things you didn't say or do. It's not worth the risk IMHO. When you invite someone into your house, you want to be sure you'll feel safe with them. Read the review by the woman who'd just had a baby. I wish I had. Paul was recommended by a neighbor and he initially seemed quite nice. However, on the last day of the original job to rodent-proof my house back in December, he became angry with me, misunderstood something I said, claimed I was being mean to him, and followed up the next day with long texts insisting I had been rude to him, and that he had lost money on the job (not my fault!). He had quoted me on replacing the insulation in the attic but at that point said he didn't want to do the work and didn't want to work with me in the future. Fine-I hired another company that completed the job with absolutely zero drama. But I had to keep in contact for follow-up checks on the traps. The main house rodent-proofing has been successful so far. The next weird thing was when at one point Paul came out himself and asked if I wanted him to do the new insulation. I was almost afraid to say I'd hired someone else because I was afraid he would go off on me again. This year I asked Paul to come out and check the crawl space because I had a new dog that was acting like he smelled something down there. Paul came out and was very solicitous, and apologized a million times for his prior behavior. He repeatedly said he had completely been in the wrong and I hadn't done anything wrong. I accepted his explanation about being stressed. Fast forward to about a month ago, when I saw rats were getting into a carport that's built onto the side of the house. It wasn't part of the original job, but I did want Paul to verify that the rats weren't getting into the main house, which should still be covered by his warranty. He did come out, behaved very nicely, apologized AGAIN for his prior behavior, and offered to do rodent-proofing on the carport, assuring me he could take care of it. I said ok, but be sure to quote me what you feel you need to do the job. He quoted me $950 which is a lot of money to me, but i didn't even question it because he was very reassuring that he was sorry, wanted to help me out and could take care of it. Well, rats are still getting in. He offered to come by on a Saturday to check things, but then he couldn't come because of personal issues. Fine, I understand, I was not upset. That same day, he said we should probably bolt down some wood blocks he'd put in, and i said ok. He then said he could come on a Thursday. He did NOT mention charging extra for this additional work. His guy came and checked the traps and cleaned but didn't find any rats. Paul didn't make it that day and texted "the door strips are in my truck, I got backed up due to get new tires my trucks been down all day." Again, I understand, these things happen. Point being, he'd said he could do the work that day and didn't mention extra $$$. Then out of the blue yesterday I get a text from him that he's sent me an invoice for an additional $250. Knowing how volatile Paul is, I wasn't even going to argue, but I did ask "will this be guaranteed to work?" because I'm certainly not spending an additional $250 after spending $950 if it's not going to work. Well, he went OFF on me AGAIN, accusing me of complaining all the time and never being happy. I spent $950 and rats are still getting in, am I not supposed to say anything? I've been nothing but nice to him. He said the rats were getting in because I leave the doors to the carport open. I explained a couple of times that I leave them open for HIM or his guys and otherwise they are closed. He just kept being accusatory. After I said I was done with his abuse and told him to forget it, he tried to set up an appointment to come out anyway. So if he reads this I'm sure that's what he will say. But I'm not subjecting myself to any more abuse and unhinged behavior from someone that *I* am PAYING. I've never been treated this way by a contractor before. This latest interaction literally made me sick to my stomach. I'm calling it my $950 learning experience. I'll hire someone else even if it costs more $$. I've called NorCal back twice in the two years since Paul did the original work. Once was for a mouse issue in the garage. Paul took care of this by adding a small metal plate at the bottom of the garage door and some cement at the door edges. No problem there since. The second time was when I found a dead rat and mouse in the crawlspace traps. I was not pleased since the slab was supposed to take care of this issue once and for all. Paul came out twice to take a look (the second time because the first time he came was after dark and he wanted to take a closer look during the day). He found a new entry gap that was missed the previous time (well above the slab). NorCal took care of this as well with cement and cleaned up the crawlspace again. Haven't had an issue since! Paul didn't even charge me for any of this additional follow up work. I love that he stands by his original work. I highly recommend NorCal! read more
