Got take out! The person at cash register was very kind and gave great recommendations. We got the breakfast burrito with chorizo. Burrito was overall pretty well balanced but was quite oily, which I think made the burrito more on soft side as well. The enchiladas were good! We got it with potato, which was crispy. It was a little pricier side.
The food here is fantastic and service is friendly and efficient. There's a small salsa bar where they have yummy chopped roasted Jalapeno that went very well with my Nopalito Omelette. I also got a side of Guac. That was yummy too. My husband had the Huevos Rancheros. They served it differently than other places. There wasn't a tortilla under the eggs. Instead the tortillas came on the side. He actually liked it this way. My son had the breakfast burrito with bacon and cheese. I don't remember what my friend's dish was called. I believe it was the special. Nonetheless, everyone enjoyed their food. My friend took us here after a friend introduced her to it.
My kind of place! Atmosphere is homey and small. The earlier you can get there, the better....and theres a reason......Everything on the menu is extremely tasty!!!!!!!!!! This was our second visit and I will return again and again From what I understand, employee owned!! Neighborhood staple!!! Support small businesses........
Nice little hole in the wall place. The staff was friendly. We got Philly cheesesteak plate and enchiladas. The Philly cheesesteak was delicious. It was on focaccia bread the seasoning the veggies everything was delicious definitely recommend and 10 out of 10. I was excited about the enchiladas because I get enchiladas almost every where I go The enchiladas were OK they were not my favorite. I definitely want to be ordering them again. I was expecting rice with it but it different because it was couscous but it was still good. I'd definitely come back for the Philly cheesesteak
This is just a place that just hits the spot. If you enjoy a warm, cozy Mexican food, this is the move. I've been here a few times, but have not taken any photos as I was very early in my culinary journey. I recall having the chili verde, the cactus special, and the polenta. It was spectacular. You know it's good, when you bring friends here, and they ask "how I've ever never been to this place? The service is quick. Beware, it is cash only. You order at the counter. The gentleman there is very friendly. The food here is like a warm hug. It is using oozing with flavor. Honestly, the breakfast burrito I had today is probably the best breakfast burrito I've had in Sacramento. The pork was super tender and well flavored. There was a great balance of eggs in the burrito as well. Sometimes, I feel like places short you on the eggs. If anything, there was maybe too much egg. However, as someone who is looking out for their protein intake on a daily basis, I was not complaining. The tortilla held up very well. I liked that potatoes were well seasoned and soft. In the back, there are various sauces that you could add. While, I thought the red sauce was fantastic. This burrito did not need any addition.
Our family only eats out for breakfast when it's at Napolitos. I wish I could give the food and staff more than 5 stars. Everything they make is superb.
Chile Colorado with fried potatoes and two scrambled eggs. I liked the flavor, but there was very little beef on my plate. And only two tablespoons of potatoes. Mostly chile sauce. I loved the two flour tortillas. In my opinion it was overpriced ($17.25) for the food. I won't return because I don't like restaurants that overpriced dishes. I would be embarrassed if I were the owner. PS. The gentleman that took my order was very pleasant!
Love supporting local, Latino-owned businesses -- and this little café does not disappoint! The staff is so friendly and welcoming, and you can really taste the freshness in every bite. Highly recommend trying the Little Cactus Special with the 1/2 and 1/2 sauce -- it's the perfect combo of flavor and heat. Everything feels homemade and made with love. Also great news -- they now accept cards! Definitely worth a visit (or two!).
Was told locals especially in the east Sacramento area love to frequent here. Right off the bat, shout out to the staff for being so nice and accommodating as I didn't know they have a break and separate lunch menu as my objective was to try some pancakes! It's nice inside even though small with lots of seating inside and outside. The pancakes were fluffy and delicious! The chorizo burrito was flavorful and super filling! Definitely recommend the burrito with their house salsa at their salsa bar! Overall, highly recommend.
Hands-down, one of the best family owned Mexican restaurants in the East area. Everything is made from the fresh ingredients and they have wonderful daily specials. Small quaint restaurant with plenty of parking and outdoor seating. The owner takes very good care of customers and always make sure that everything is served to perfection.
My boyfriend finally took me to Nopalitos on a Saturday and I was shocked how popular it was. It was my first time seeing this restaurant after living in sacramento my whole life. Definitely a secret gem! You order first and then find open seating. Luckily with it being packed, we were able to sit right after ordering. The staff is very friendly and sweet! Reminder that this place is cash only!! Our food came out shortly. My boyfriend wanted me to try the little cactus plate and ordered himself the machaca and chorizo breakfast burrito. Why have one when you can have two? The cactus plate was very yummy! I've had cactus before so it wasn't anything out of the ordinary for me. The flavors and textures really went well with one another. Out of the burritos the machaca was our favorite. The meat was tender and flavorful. This is the first breakfast burrito where I felt it was different than your typical breakfast burrito. I highly recommend you try! It was really delicious. I'd definitely come again! The food and service is amazing. This place gives you comfy and homey vibes.

Food is fresh and delicious here. CASH PAY ONLY! There is a liquor store around the corner with an ATM if you need to take out cash. Our food came out quickly and was soooo good. Everyone in previous reviews were raving about the chocolate chip cookies here...they were not amazing. If you've had pan dulce, they are very similar to that. The food was amazing though, and the staff was great. We will be visiting again. Thanks! read more

This was a great local find! I wasn't sure what to expect, found it on Yelp after getting a blood test in the area! lol When I got there, I placed my order and they only take check or cash! That was different, I don't have cash or check normally, I was in luck I did that day. Not too many people when I sat down, by the time I left there were people waiting in line to order. A very busy spot for sure! The food was delicious I will be back. read more

I am a huge fan of Machaca. Always have been. Always will be. This place makes a pretty legit Machaca. W's potato dish was tasty and filling. The potatoes are great. Actually, everything we've had has been delicious and fresh. Well cooked, flavorful food. It doesn't seem that hard but so many places get it wrong. Not here. They have it down. Probably why they've been in business for 20+ years. Eggs are always as ordered. Flavors are spot on. Food is freshly cooked and hot. Really nothing to complain about. Parking is scarce but just park on the street. Cash (or check - do people still use checks?) so plan accordingly. This is not a giant place so be flexible. Eat outside if its nice. Hang out for a minute until someone leaves and then take their table. Get it to go. I always roll my eyes when people complain about things like parking and no credit cards. You want a place with a giant parking lot that takes credit cards but has disgusting food? Have at it. I'm sure there is a Chipotle somewhere nearby. As for me, I'll be back. read more
Got there right at 1145, just before they stop serving breakfast. Small, homey and very friendly space and staff; cashier gave us recs on what her favs were. We the huevos rancheros with chorizo, Chile verde, pancakes, chorizo burrito and kilter cactus plate. I'd have to say the huevos rancheros was the fav and everything so perfectly flavored. Many places will give u a big portioned size of food to make up for the taste, but taste was on point and portion was just enough to push me over the edge. Don't let me forget about the pancakes. You might be thinking that this isn't the place for pancakes, BUT IT IS!! Light and fluffy and pretty much the best pancakes in sac, even more so than some of the high end brekkie places I've tried. read more

I enjoy coming to this place as much as my wallet allows. The food is consistently great and the service is also impeccable. The family that took over the restaurant(after the original owners retired) have done an amazing job of keeping the quality at the same level while opening up the business hours. I had the green pozole today, which was their daily special. It was delicious. My typical go to is the Little Cactus Special or the Huevos Rancheros. As long as I live in Sacramento I will be getting my breakfast here. Thank you wholeheartedly for having such a wonderful space for the neighborhood to enjoy. read more

Only cash or check, no card! Shared parking lot that's full at lunchtime on a weekday. Clean and bright interior. Very little outdoor seating, and the indoor seating is more compact than cozy. The patio was totally full, and inside was at 50% capacity. The tables are small, and it would be cramped if you actually tried to seat four people at one. I don't think this would be the best spot to accommodate large groups. Friendly staff and quick service. No masks, but they did have hand sanitizer on the counter and restrooms off to the side. Salsa verde and pico de gallo are self-serve. Water is self-serve. The menu is written in chalk overhead, and they put out a couple menus on the front counter. They didn't give us a receipt. I ordered the soft taco plate, which comes with two tacos and a salad. You can choose a different meat for each taco. The greens in the salad were crisp, and the dressing was sweet. The beef was tender and tasted very reminiscent of canned chili, which was a strange surprise. The carnitas taco was good - the seasoning was great, but the meat was cut into big chunks instead of shredded as is usual with carnitas. read more

Nopalito, should be like your saying YESpalito. Seen it before popping up on my breakfast searches but being on the other side of town hasn't really been on my radar to try. But wanting a breakfast burrito badly and not finding any place it was the 1st place I saw again. It was during covid-19 so it was togo only. Parking is a bit odd on the parking lot. Some tight fits but the food omg...... We sat in the car an ate it right then. It looked so good and smelt awesome. I ended up with the nopalito omelet. Packed with cactus and poblano peppers, cheese oozing out and a big dollop of sour cream on top. Comes with tortillas and a side of southern potatoes. My wife went with the sauteed veggies burrito. Also sooo good. Has carrots, purple cabbage, zucchini and mushrooms. Also with cheese and the southern potato in it. My wife loved it. Definitely be back to try more items as those both were homeruns for us. read more

This place only takes cash or check. It's a small, crowded joint and if you can't snag a table, it's worth ordering to go. We got the chorizo omelette with a side of potatoes, polenta breakfast, coffee, and Mexican hot chocolate. Staff were super friendly and welcoming. Everything was amazing and seasoned perfectly! Pretty sure we'll get a short essay on the derivation of the name of this restaurant shortly. I think it means "small cactus" or something. Close enough. You gotz the Apple Pay? Go find an ATM. Cash is king here. Also they're open when they're open, which is not much: M-F 6:30am-2:30pm. When we got there for a late breakfast/early lunch, it seemed pretty empty but by the time I'd finished, the place was full. Not that that matters. Portions were oddly reasonable. No huge platters of anything slathered in cheese and bacon. Just very decent savory plates of what seemed to be well thought out food. The machaca plate came with two corn tortillas so I logically piled some pork, chiles and eggs in. Voila- brekkie taco. Salsa bar near the ice machine had but a few kinds. In the unmarked ketchup squeeze bottle in the ice is a spicier, darker sauce. That was my fave. Oh, and some folks may dock points because they don't take plastic or electronic pay-with-your-phone stuff. That gets amusing. read more

If i write a review anymore these days it because i absolutely love it. Or absolutely hate it. But there isn't anything to not like about this spot. Other than the food being incredibly good, the service is even better. Very quick despite being a little busy at times. I have come back multiple times now during the week in hopes for the breakfast hash. I believe it may only be on Friday/weekend. Regardless i haven't been disappointed with anything else on the menu. Yum. I love how the staff and owner are genuinely nice. They're so helpful and check in on you. The salsa bar is small but mighty. Delicious relish salsa, pico and blended green. Coffee is fresh and not tart. The little cactus special is delicious just like the reviews stated. Now I'm eyeing the bran muffin! Looks moist. I'm already dying to come back for their chicken dishes. Years ago I had the huevos rancheros and they were great. The whole grain pancakes are my style because I love the texture. I've only had a chance to try this place once so far but I loved it! It has a small interior and limited seating but I like the home-y vibe it gives off. The staff was friendly and my food was ready pretty quickly. I didn't know they stopped serving breakfast items at 11am so I had to order from the lunch menu, I got a quesadilla and it was delicious! It had a good portion size and was so flavorful! I can't wait to come back and try more! read more

Stopped at this little cafe on our road trip that was recommended by yelp. Pros: 1. Great menu with diverse selection 2. Fast and friendly service 3. Tasty food. We liked what we had which was the Huevos Rancheros, Little Cactus, pancake for the toddler and brand muffin was still warm. We also got a coffee and a Mexican hot chocolate. 4. Cute decor and definitely a Mom and Pop place. 5. Clean. 6. The had outdoor sitting which we would normally do since we have the dogs but the kids and husband are at the end of their cold and it was a little chilly outside. Cons: 1. It doesn't take card which I can understand. We had to stop at an ATM since we rarely carry cash. 2. No high chair and I have a baby so it was difficult to eat holding the baby who wAs grabbing at everything so the husband and I took turn. 3. No changing table in bathroom which is completely understandable since it is a smaller place but I needed to change the baby which got very awkward. The lady let me order one pancake with bacon for the toddler since he can barely eat one.m which was very nice of her. We appreciate it as we don't like food waste and it's hard to do leftovers on road trip. Would highly recommend this place and will come back if in the area. read more

STEPH JUDGEMENT: A little local gem with great breakfasts. The hubby and I were visiting some friends in Sacramento and this is where they brought us for breakfast one morning. I can see why it's such a local favorite--the atmosphere is homey and welcoming, and the food is very good. They're cash only; you order and pay at the counter and they bring the food out to you. I got the huevos rancheros plate and the hubby got the Little Cactus with red sauce. You definitely get that "homemade" taste here, served up with a smile. Their coffee was pretty darn good too. This is a cute spot that a lot of the locals go to. The restaurant is small ,decorated and clean which is something I always look for. The customer service is excellent. You need to come prepared with cash as they do not take debit/ credit cards. We walked down the street (less than a minute walk) to a liquor store and used their atm and came back. Do I wish they took debit cards? Yes, but it will not change my review because I really enjoyed my food and the service. If you like comfort food and tamales I would suggest ordering the tamale in a bowl, it was delicious. Overall a great place to get delicious comfort food and the most friendly service. read more
I've been eating breakfast in Sacramento most weekends for the greater part of a year (covid permitting). This was the best breakfast I've had thus far. I'll talk about the food. I had a polenta dish with Chile verde, two eggs, and some corn tortillas. Everything was cooked perfectly and the polenta still had corn kernels which made the texture perfect. The place is cash only and the coffee is average at best. The service was good and simple with 6-7 total tables. The meal I had did not disappoint. I rarely get excited about coming back for a meal (let alone the same meal), but there's a good chance I'll be back tomorrow. Paid $15 with a meal and coffee. Worth it read more
