I am in love with a cookie. The chocolate chip cookies here are mindblowing. The best cookies I have EVER had in my life, I wish I had a lifetime supply of them. If you've read Eat Pray Love, there's a part where the main character has a "relationship" with her pizza. Well, I have a relationship with these cookies. They're amazing. Anyway, enough about the cookies for now. I was so excited to finally have a weekday off so I could eat at Nopalitos.. The service here was great, and our food was ready really quickly. I ordered a chicken burrito with sour cream and it was excellent. It tasted so fresh and... clean, if that makes sense. I love that their chicken is charbroiled, it just makes it all non-greasy and delicious. My fiance ordered the chicken quesadilla and the nachos. He thought they were great and the bites I had were tasty too. I love all their salsa options too, they all tasted delicious. Anyway, back to the cookies! We came here for breakfast when we had a week day off last month. My husband had the chorizo breakfast burrito, and I had the chile colorado breakfast thing. My husband's burrito was fine, nothing extraordinary or different but the standard chorizo burrito, which was alright, I ended up eating half. My egg was cooked perfectly, but the chile colorado itself was so salty I ended up not being able to eat it :( I was so super bummed because it looked really good and the meat was super tender. I'm not sure what went wrong but it was a total loss. The place got super busy super quick, there were two huge parties that came in and our little table became a hot comodity. We departed, and I had to get a jamba juice on the way home since I was still hungry. I don't think we'll be coming back for breakfast, but I may try lunch in the future. read more

After navigating through the small parking lot and finding a spot, we stepped into Nopalitos. We've always wanted to check out this East Sac joint, but like most people we work during the week. Since today was a holiday we decided to give it a try. Several tables sit outside, but since the weather was quite frigid, we opted to sit at one the the 7 or 8 tables inside. They also have a small wraparound counter for singles. Chorizo and egg scramble for me, cheesy corn scramble for my wife. Both were accompanied with a side of potatoes and two tortillas. Topped it all of with a fresh cup of joe, and it wasn't too shabby. Check this place out when you have a day off during the week. Positives: Quick, cheap grub. Went here yesterday for breakfast. Had heard a lot of hype. Well, the hype is true. This place serves one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. I had the huevos rancheros with chorizo. It so reminded me of being in Santa Fe. You order at the counter, then find a seat. The place is small and seating is limited, so factor that into your plans if you go. A word for the wise: They dont take plastic. My wallet was tapped out after our recent vacation, as I had not had time to get to the bank, so you can imagine the look on my face when after ordering and getting part of our food I offered my debit card and was told "we dont take plastic". Well, off to find an ATM while the wife and kids ate. I don't knock the place for not taking plastic; next time I will just go prepared. Cash or check only. Weird hours and lack of credit card acceptance would normally put me off a bit, but what this place lacks in flexibility they make up for in flavor. I believe breakfast time is the best time to go to Napolitas where their dishes really shine. The polenta breakfast is my favorite, but machacas and huevos rancheros really shine. However, I haven't had anything off the menu that wasn't enjoyable. It's not authentic Mexican, but southwestern and it's delectable. They offer a range of beverages including some beers, a salsa bar and limited seating which help to round this place off. Heaven...plain and simple. I've eaten breakfast at Nopalitos three times in the last two weeks, I simply can't get enough. This has to be some of the best food in town, and definitely the best for breakfast. Huevos Rancheros absolutely dynamite! Got mine with Half red sauce, half green sauce to try both (the owner's suggestion). Genius. Both sauces were very obviously made from scratch, fresh and full of amazing flavor. Beans and potatoes on the plate were terrific as well. Breakfast burrito was perfection. Wrapped perfectly in a large soft flour tortilla with perfectly cooked eggs, amazing Southwest potatoes, flavorful fresh Mexican salsa...every component was perfectly seasoned and prepared. Tried another smothered in green sauce and that was a nice touch if you're not eating on the run. Pancakes are some of the best around. Fluffy, light, flavorful (you can taste the tangy buttermilk)...served with great quality bacon. My only complaint is that they are closed on Saturdays and Sundays, but I guess that's a testament to the fact that the owners are always present during operating hours, quality is always on point, and they need a couple of days off too. Oh Nopalitos, how I wish you were open on the weekends....(and that you accepted cards). A friend of mine from New Mexico introduced me to Nopalitos because in her opinion it was the most authentic southwestern food that she could find in Sac. Not being too well versed in the difference between southwestern food and tex-mex I took her word for it - and so glad I did. I love this place! I really like the sonoroa salad, it has all kinds of yummies in it that you don't normally get, like jicama and two kinds of squash. I got mine with carnitas and it was delicious! The carnitas is spiced a little differently than what you'd get at a Mexican restaurant. I want to say I tasted a hint of cinnamon in it?? Whatever it was, it was good! My visits to this little spot have been few and far between, since its closed on the weekends. But every time I've gone I have greatly enjoyed the food, and so does the person I'm with. We didn't know it was cash only and the cashier (and maybe the owner?) told us we could eat our food and then come back and pay her. Considering we had never met her before, it was surprising that she did that. I ordered a wet chile verde burrito with red sauce and thought the meat and overall burrito were delicious but there was so much tortilla that I have to give it four stars. It's a small place with big flavor. I love eating here. The chile verde is oh so good - the BEST. And they have a small assortment of fresh baked cookies and breads (like, banana bread, pumpkin bread, coffee cake, etc.). There are only two reasons why I gave them 4 stars and not 5: they only take cash and they are only open weekdays until 2:30pm. So no dinner and no weekends. Small shared parking lot with several other businesses. Salsa Bar is ok, not phenomenal. Portions are big enough to fill you up, but not big enough to stuff you silly. I had the "smothered" Chili Verde burrito. Meat was lean and tender. Since this is the first time I've eaten here, take this rating with a grain of salt. With all of the great Mexican places in Sac., you could probably do better, especially for the price. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again, but if I needed a burrito and was in the neighborhood, this is a good place for lunch. Seldom do I write reviews, but when I have to walk out of a place full of disappointment, I head straight to yelp. Apparently breakfast ends at 11:00am. I walked in at 11:00am, helped myself to a seat while I looked at the menu. I decided to get the huevos rancheros upon looking on yelp, but could not find it on the menu - so I went up to ask if I could order breakfast (11:02am) - the gentlemen looked up at the clock behind me, and just gave me a straight up "no". I've lived in the area for over eight years BUT have not been able to ever try Nopalitos because of the hours and days they are open SO I took advantage of having a day away from work and am very thankful I did! Simple menu with a few great options. With a name like "Nopalitos" I expected the menu to be composed of more dishes made with nopales. My husband, "El Aleman", did not surprise me by ordering French Toast while I wanted something that spoke to my roots; the Polenta Breakfast with Chile Colorado. OMG! This is the 2nd best Chile Colorado I have ever had in my life: the 1st goes to my Uncle Jessie who is the most bomb Mexican cook ever! The spices used were not too hot and there was not a lot of "grease" in this dish which it is accustomed to having when it has been cooking for a long while. The polenta was a good sized portion, the fried eggs were cooked perfectly and the queso fresco added just the perfect amount of saltiness to the dish; the salsa was just okay. I asked the server, after I was stuffing my face, who made the dish and she told me that "Dave" the owner makes all of the food. (When I placed my order, I peeked in the back and thought "Dave" was also washing the dishes BUT I was wrong!) The fact that a Huero can throw down an authentic Mexican dish in the kitchen is wonderful! I have had terrible Chile Colorado at places that were supposed to be "authentic" Mexican restaurants. I totally appreciate that my meal was fresh and VERY flavorful. I also ordered a cup of coffee and was a little bummed that it included just one refill. There are a few other items I would like to go back and try but the rest of the items, I could get at IHOP or another chain. Rose and her husband, who spends most of his time in the kitchen, are East Sac fixtures. They know their audience. If you are a palito, you can just find another place to eat, because this place is called No palitos! Apparently a palito is someone who doesn't like good Mexican food. Seriously, though, the burritos here aren't that big but they are large enough to make you full and they come at a good price. My wife has also ordered the salad and the nachos and she likes them. If I was rating it on just their chorizo omelette, it might be a five star rating. However, as a whole I can say that I wasn't very impressed with the place. The location makes it pretty easy to spot, but the parking lot is a nightmare. Not to mention they just redid 56th and H's intersection, and the lack of a green turn arrow has been causing major problems there. I agree with other reviewers about the hours being a pain. I think I tried three times to go here for breakfast to no avail. They were either closed or no longer serving breakfast. To top it off, they don't take credit card or ATM. Most of the people that go there seem to be regulars. That's nice and all, but their seating is way too confined for heavy traffic. Your best bet is to get your food to go. I have been here three times in the past year and each time, I know why I want to come back. The atmosphere here is very relaxing and feels like you were at one of your friend's who has a sunny dining area off from the kitchen and you can enjoy your breakfast or lunch without the fast pace beyond the doors outside. There is always three choices of delicious tasting salsa set on ice to keep it cool and fresh for your burritos or eggs or whatever you like salsa on. The coffee is hot and spot on and you can get refills. There is a lot of food choices, too many to get into here, but trust me that you will find something on the menu either for breakfast or the lunch menu, you will enjoy. I have eaten here by myself (common for many I saw), and have taken friend's and family members here, and all have enjoyed their time and food here. I took my brother (down visiting me from Alaska) here one morning a few months back in July and there were two police officers that came in to eat while on break and set at the next table over. When we were done and ready to leave, I looked over and my brother had gone up to the police officers and shook each of their hands and told them thank you for their service. I saw a big smile from my brother while doing this and a surprised smile back from each officer as they waited for their food. It was just 'perfect timing' to watch that on fold. But that is how it feels here, like family even though you don't know anyone personally. The parking can be a challenge during the busy hours of service but all else is worth every bite! read more

Would've been 4 stars if the portion sizes we're larger. We got the burrito plate and quesadilla. When eating out, you'd expect to be full after an entree. The portions left us hungry and looking for other options. The marginal cost of adding an extra scoop of rice or more cheese to fill out an entree can be passed on to the customer since it's be pretty minimal. Taste was good and seasoning was on point. Tinga linga ling! Just finally had lunch here for the first time today and I have to say it was one of the best Mexican food dishes I've ever tasted. I had the Tinga chicken tostada which had amazing flavor and very fresh ingredients with really yummy homemade pinto beans. I don't care for crispy flour tortillas (I know I'm a freak) and that is how they serve their tostadas. So they did the same presentation as a tostada on a plate, and provided me with three soft corn tortillas to wrap up all the goodies in a sort of taco. I wanted to lick the plate! They have a salsa bar which I did not partake of, my dish was perfect as served. But next time, chips and salsa for sure. Can't wait to go back. Wish they were open for dinner too!
