    Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie
    Taleah T.

I was taking a walk with my coffee and wanted a sweet treat. I check the map quickly and saw I was a 3 minute walk from this bakery so I decided to check it out. The owner was very friendly and welcoming. The presentation of the baked goods were very appeasing. The cakes looked moist. I was overwhelmed by everything and wanted it all. The owner suggested the vegan chocolate chip cookie. This was definitely not what I had in mind but I said yes. I just ate it and it was delicious. I like to try vegan goods because if you can make a vegan baked good taste delicious then I trust you. The cookie is made with tahini, the perfect chocolate chip ratio, and a but of sea salt. It is moist. It tasted better than many bakeries non vegan chocolate chip cookie. I will definitely return. Bakery was clean and well maintained.

Fortunate to find parking just in front of bakery. Stopped by on a Friday at 11:30am. I wasn't sure what to buy, but a couple of regular customers walked up behind me. They said that the French puffs and the BBSCCCC were a must try. The BBSCCCC is a browned butter salted caramel chocolate chip caramel cookie. On Fridays, from 11-1pm, the bakery offers focaccia sandwiches for purchase. So, I settled on a couple of French puffs, one BBSCCCC, brownie with walnuts, and pastrami focaccia. Everything was delicious. The French puff was not what I expecting. Instead of light and airy, the puff is cake-like inside rolled in cinnamon sugar. I had to read up on its history. It's perfect with coffee/tea. Best served warm. The focaccia had thinly sliced pastrami, cheese and greens. The focaccia was the perfect vehicle for the sandwich. It was a treat to meet Angela and Thomas.

I reviewed them last year and I have to say they're still my favorite bakery in town. I don't crave anything quite like I crave their cheesecake with cherry compote on top and their key lime cheesecake. It is just a dream come true.

This was my third visit to this delightful mom and pop bakery tucked inside a charming Victorian in Midtown. Reluctantly, I must share how great this place is at the expense of gatekeeping it for myself... but it seems the cat is out of the bag anyway, and they deserve all the praise. The same friendly guy has helped me all three times I've been in. On my first visit, he even threw in 2 free French Puffs, which is their signature cinnamon sugar donut hole-esque dessert, which was quite a unique and tasty treat. The first time I visited, I fell in love with their chocolate cake: moist, tender, perfectly sweet, with a rich and deeply flavored chocolate frosting. I have to order a slice every time now. On this most recent trip, I ordered another slice of that cake along with the cherry cheesecake and a slice of coffee cake. I've never once been disappointed by anything from Midtown Bakery. From the kind staff to the charming location to the excellent desserts, it's easily one of the best businesses in Sacramento. You can truly taste the love and passion in everything they make. No longer should Sacramentans have to suffer through the mediocrity that is Rick's Dessert Diner. If you have even the faintest sweet tooth, this place is for you.

A side door that you may miss if you're not paying attention, but a must visit spot. I'd heard great things about the bakery and finally was able to visit one Saturday afternoon but as seen in the picture, I recommend going early. We were able to get a slice of oreo cheesecake and a brownie with walnuts. Both were very delicious and tasted like a lot of love went into them. The case still had some items, but people always recommended going early in the morning for more of a variety. The staff was welcoming and provided a quick and efficient service.

Was so happy to finally get time to stop into one of my favorite family owned bakeries in midtown Sacramento. Open Saturday & Sunday 8am - 2pm. All desserts freshly baked. Tastes so good it melts in your mouth. Love having the opportunity to patronize a local family owned bakery. The service is always stellar when you can have a conversation with the owner and bakery all at once. Love to hear all the variety of optional desserts served weekly. The cute Victorian home style bakery is quite the hide away. A perfect location off J street. A five star bakery

Ordered the strawberry cake, coffee cake and carrot cake. All tasted good! Great service from staff and cute bakery ambiance.

You'll have to do a little hunting to find Midtown Bakery because it's tucked into the basement of an old victorian on the corner of 23rd and J. I think you'll be happy if you do, the pastries are delicious. During my visit, I ordered a corn muffin, brown butter chocolate chip cookie, and a lemon bar which came to $13.00. They also offer tasty looking treats like brownies, cakes, and coconut macaroons. I'm giving the corn muffin 5 stars because it was moist, had a nice texture, and was cooked with bacon, cheese, and jalapeños in it. I also give the chocolate chip cookie 5 stars because it was rich, crisp on the edges, soft in the middle, and was loaded with chocolate chips. Last but not least, I rate the lemon bar with 5 stars, because it had an excellent crust, creamy lemon custard on top, and just the right amount of sweetness. I have to say, their chef can really bake! Don't be discourage if there's a line at the door and you have to wait outside for a few minutes, The interior is tiny, and it's a popular, so it fills up fast. It's well worth it though. Midtown Bakery may be small on the inside, but big it's big on flavor.

Love biscuit Mondays!! Best biscuit in Sacramento that's I've had so far! Their lemon bars are also AMAZING! Prefect blend of tart and sweet. I always go here at least once a year on my birthday to treat myself hehe. Everyone I've met that works there is also super nice. Adorable spot too love the greenery around the door when you walk in! Can't wait to try more.

    Open till 2pm.

They now sell sandwiches on Fridays from 1am-1pm. They bake their own focacia. We got the Italian, which had an assortment of Italian meats: salami, ham, prosciutto, mortadella, soprasata, fontana, and a drizzle of balsamic on the bread. $10. Its about 6"x6". The picture shows my half.

    German chocolate cake

I ordered my favorite German chocolate cake for my birthday. I'm not sure what is better, the cake or the frosting, but the combination is amazing. So happy I treated myself. My family in Chicago is sad they are missing out. Maybe next year.

My eye was first drawn to the churro, I haven't been able to have one in years, I was so excited. It was everything I ever wanted in a churro. I grew up loving apple fritters and since having to go GF, it is my most missed donut-adjacent treat. This one was smaller than a normal one, but that was fine because I could actually enjoy it without it being too big. Perfectly fluffy with apple pieces and spiced just right, it was delicious. The cruellers were nice and crispy on the outside and just sweet enough. Glazed with chocolate or regular icing, they are a perfect donut. The staff were polite and patient and the place didn't seem that crowded for a Thursday around dinner time. I suppose with Ginger Elizabeth's and Rick's Dessert Diner all on the same strip, there is a lot of competition for dessert places here. We were happy to try something new. Everything was fairly clean and there was plenty of bar seating as well as a few tables. I believe there were also tables outside.

The cherry pastry was a stunner and delicious as well with great flavor and a nice balance of sweetness. My husband wanted the Estelle Noisette and although it was good, it was my least favorite of the three. It had pleasant nutty flavors but it was a little too rich for me. In the end, the real standout was the Blueberry Choux. The cream was light and fluffy and it had just the right amount of blueberry flavor. I really liked the texture of the pastry too and how it complimented the fluffy cream. I would definitely order that one again and highly recommend it. The pastries are definitely on the pricey side, but the quality and presentation justify the cost. The interior of the shop was nice and definitely reminded me of patisseries in France. Honestly, I felt completely insulted like you're not supposed to say things like that to your customers or even about your customers. I felt myself getting ready to go completely off on him, so I walked away and went to sit back down. He had the audacity to tell my niece some people can't handle the truth. It's so baffling to me that a manager would say something like that. I know employees sometimes say inappropriate things, but he should know better!! This was supposed to be a nice family outing and he ruined my night. Luckily I have confidence in myself and his comment didn't give me a complex or make me like I look old. It was also disappointing because I went in there specifically to get an eclair, which is normally a decent size. For some reason, it was the half of the size and the same price.
