Instead, the shopping experience can sometimes feel heavy and guilt-laden, even when we're making small, routine purchases. The store has a program where after you buy a certain number of bags of dog food, and you get one free. Great, nice promotion. Today I came in to get a bag of dog food, and was told it was our free bag. But then the clerk told me it would only apply if I picked turkey, and the bag I brought to the counter was beef.
