A sorely needed gem in Hatboro! I just moved back to the suburbs 2 years ago after being in the city for nearly a decade. It's been hard to find artisanal bakery items around this area that isn't Wegmans. They always have a full stock and variety of pastries, cakes, breads, and now gelato! Cannolis are on point (they even put candies orange peels on them)! Service is always welcoming and prices are fair. Some may say they lean on the pricier end but I like to remind folks that you are supporting a local business that does not mass produce their items, I married a baker and to have the level of quality for the variety that they offer daily is not an easy task. 5 out of 5 in my book, my only complaint is to the girl that works Sundays remember to put the cream in the baba au rum please! read more

I wanted to like Nonno's because there are not many authentic Italian bakeries around for me to satisfy my Italian pastry cravings when I get them. We kept passing Nonno's so decided to finally try it on a late Sunday afternoon, right before closing. The store was empty except for one young female employee with very red hair. We looked around and when I asked if they had larger sfogliatelle, she half-heartedly gestured towards it--not the friendliest person. We got a cannoli, a large sfogliatelle, and a cannoli filled cream puff pastry. The cannoli was terrible. I should have known it wouldn't be good, since it was already filled and in the refrigerator case. Anyone whose a connoisseur, knows that you fill cannoli when it's ordered, otherwise the crispy shell gets soggy sitting in the refrigerator. We ate it soon after getting home and it was disappointing and simply not worth the calories. The shell was still crispy because it was burnt. It had an unpleasant, burnt taste. The filling didn't have much flavor at all and it didn't seem fresh. The sfogliatelle had an okay flavored cheese filling but the pastry overall seemed too thin (not enough layers?) and it wasn't flaky enough. It also didn't seem very fresh. The bakery had a large assortment of items and gelato that looked delicious. Maybe I'll go back to try the gelato and pignoli cookies if I'm in the area. I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to come back here for either of my favorites though. I've had cannolis and sfogliatelle at other places where they are excellent. Termini Brothers in Phila. and Altomonte's in Warminster (right up the road from Nonno's) come to mind. I cannot recommend Nonno's based on what we got but if we give them another try, I'll update my review. read more

I bought an Italian Cream Birthday cake from here. I really don't like this particular type of cake but, God D*MN! If that wasn't THE BEST ITALIAN CREAM CAKE EVER! And beautifully designed too. I'm a huge fan now and I'll compare any other that I try to this. Pastries, cakes & cookies are plenty and delicious. I like cannoli. A lot. I was driving around Willow Grove and was struck with the urge. My go-to place is Cafe Roma in Roxborough (or Termini Brothers if I find myself in South Philly). I decided to do a yelp search for cannoli. The top two on the list were Sam's market and this place. As great as Sam's market is, they pre-stuff their cannoli, which for me is a deal breaker. Maybe most people don't know any better. Maybe they don't care. But I do and I insist on my cannoli stuffed after I order. I'm not some jerk throwing around demands at bakeries. If you prestuff your cannoli and leave them to go soggy on display, fine- I just won't be getting cannoli from you. So I get a spot on York Road and head to nono's or whatever it's called. Some other yelpers I see rave about the cannoli. We'll see. The place is fancy looking with lots of fancy stuff on fancy displays. I wander about and see no cannoli. I take this as a good sign. No evidence of prestuffing (although, the empty shells on display is the way to do it). There's two girls, both high school age, working behind the counter. When it's my turn, I ask about the cannoli and if they're prestuffed. I'm met with a confused look and some mumbled answer about not enough cannoli to put on display. She has no idea what I'm talking about But I've come this far so I order six large- cheese. She disappears into the back and returns in like five seconds and begins stringing up a white box. Hopes begin to plummet for a good fresh cannoli. Fifteen bucks! I can get twelve- count'em twelve large non- prestuffed cannoli for 18 bucks in Roxborough. So after getting to the car and removing the string, I see the cannoli are a complete disaster. They have cherries and some other fruit jammed into it, which is totally what I didn't ask for and totally what I didn't want. So if you want soggy fruit filled cannoli, then this is the place for you. Looks like I'll still be driving to Roxborough. read more

We have had better and worse. Nonno's excels in the less sweet, biscuit-y categories: The "S" and sesame seed cookies that are perfect for dunking. They also have house-made taralli, which I have not seen anywhere else. We did look around and see many different types of desserts on offer, from cookies to cheesecake and many more. I got the 2 scoops of the Cannoli gelato and may gosh it was so good. You can get 2 scoops for around $5 (I think the price was $4.75) so it's pretty reasonably priced. If you are in the area you should stop in. read more

This is was first time we ever went to this bakery. We ordered a birthday cake this weekend and it was one of the worst experiences. They agreed to make a 1/4 sheet cake and it wasn't, it was a round cake. The cake tasted absolutely horrible, no taste to it what so ever. We will not come back ever again. Lochels across the street is better and we will go there from now on. read more

I really enjoy this bakery. There are so many amazing treats to select from and given that most are individual size. This makes them great for one or as my family likes to do, purchase a variety of delicious treats and share a little of everything !! Nutella filled croissants, nonna cake, zeppoles, cannoli or cream filled puffs ... I could go on ... I am very glad to welcome this bakery to the neighborhood despite my continued loyalty to Lochel's Bakery as well. I'm a baker myself, so, yea...I'm a cake snob. Well, I recently attended a birthday party where a Nonno's cake was served. I immediately felt the need to warn others about Nonno's cake because this place clearly is not keen on birthday cakes. I will start by stating that the cake looked decent. There was a generic pre-printed image on some kind of fondant or edible paper and rather large, fluffy flowers decorating the corners. It wasn't an artistic masterpiece, but it did the job. The part where it all went downhill was when they cut into the cake and plopped that heavy piece onto the paper birthday plate and handed it to me (and my other family members). There was immediately a pool of liquid around the base of the cake and the cake part was literally SOPPING WET. Upon tasting it, I thought, "Wait, is this a rum soaked cake?" but then I remembered that it was a cake for a kid and that the responsible parents throwing the party would never put rum in a birthday cake. This should have comforted me, but it didn't. I couldn't nail down the flavor of that mushy, soggy, dripping wet cake and then I realized that it must be some kind of sugar water that many bakers use to keep the layers moist. Well, they used WAY too much sugar water and the amount of it destroyed any way of identifying the actual flavor of the cake part. Then, there was the frosting, slathered on there thick and greasy. And, yes, it was greasy. It had zero flavor what-so-ever. For a minute, I wondered if they'd only used shortening and simply forgot to add 10X sugar or vanilla or anything. It was bland and greasy and it left such a bad taste in my mouth that I turned to hummus to eliminate it. Finally, the "cannoli filling" was a complete and utter miss. It, too, had no flavor and I'm still uncertain if there were supposed to be chocolate chips mixed into the layer or not because I found two mini chips in mine and that was it. The four of us, who were served Nonno's cake, were only able to take two-three bites before discreetly dumping it in the trashcan when no one was looking. We talked about it on the way home and we all believe that it was the worst birthday cake we've ever had in our entire lives. I even heard the hostess mention, as she cleaned up many other half-eaten, soaked cake plates, that the cake "wasn't cheap either." It looks like many of the other guests felt the same way based on how much of the cake ended up in the trash (and, yes, I do feel very sorry for the hosts because that's just plain sad to pay so much for a cake and to have it be a huge disappointment). Sooooo...save your money and your party by not ordering a birthday cake from there. Or maybe just ask them to go light on the sugar water spray or skip the icing completely...and definitely DO NOT have them put that "cannoli filling" in there. read more

I've purchased bakery items at Nonno's three times. It's so much fun to shop there because there is so much to choose from and everything is so pretty. I thought the cookies were very good. They have many choices of fancy cakes in singular slices so it's nice to be able to take several slices home and try. I haven't been disappointed I love the " buy 2 for $6.00 " table in the middle of the shop.I loved all of the items. If you bring a cake to a party from Nonno's you will be a hit. . I'm fussy and I don't understand the negative post. Perhaps, someone from Lochles Bakery across the street wrote those. I know the competition has been hard for them. read more

Very letdown by the pastries they offer. Everything is well constructed, great outward appearance looks like it would be delicious...but...it wasnt . both pastries we had were waaaaaay overly sweet and didn't taste as described. She got a tiramisu, just tasted like over whipped cream(like butter) with no coffee flavor, and my peach tasted like a sugar injected peach ring with dry cake on top. Pass. read more

I came in here for the first and final time months ago and I was less than impressed. Upon walking in I noticed 3 large bakery cases, lots of cookies and lots of beautiful cakes in the window. The place was fairly crowded so when it came to be my time to order I realized, nothing was labeled! Was I supposed to know what these 50+ different desserts were? I asked what a bunch were and the college student helping me didn't seem to really appreciate that so I gave up and started picking things. I got two slices of roulade, 2 different cake slices and a few traditional Italian pastries as well as some Italian cookies. The cookies were so dry, I felt like I NEEDED water afterwards. The Italian pastries were satisfying which made me happy considering it's an Italian bakery. The roulades really let me down. They were just in a word, disgusting. They were covered in this nasty sort of slime and the whip cream on top to decorate was completely in edible. The chocolate layer cake was delicious but the second one I got was also very disgusting. I spent about $35 here and I would say it was a waste. I wouldn't come back again. read more

First time I visited Nonno's, all the pastries were great. Very fresh and full of flavor. Recently stopped by again and was very disappointed. The chocolate roll was bland, no chocolate taste at all. The chocolate eclair same, no rich chocolate flavor. Cheesecake was ok, nothing to rave about. The young lady behind the counter looked as if she wanted to be anywhere else but in the bakery. We decided to get some pies for pi day and they were less than stellar. The apple pie seemed to have that pre-made jelly type filling and apples that were average. The top of the crust was hard to get through and the bottom broke apart real easy. I would say the local Giant food store has better pies. Been here a few times and definitely one of the best local bakeries. Individual cheese cake with the strawberry on top; awesome. Cannoli; DELICIOUS; cookies are great. You've got to try the pistachio and almond cookies. Oh; and I stopped in for fauschnaut donuts on Fat Tuesday and it was LITERALLY the best I have EVER had and my thighs will tell you I've had a few in my day. LOL. I bought a red velvet cup cake. Was not thrilled. Their cream cheese icing want very creamy it was more like a butter cream frosting too sweet. Needed more cream cheese flavor and the red velvet was dry had hardly any flavor. Now I know me and my friends like to try me and exciting flavors of cup cakes. We didn't find that here n their prices are a little high. Their French cream cake was good. But even the counter girl didn't know much about what was in their cakes or candies they sold. I have stopped into this bakery at least a dozen times since it opened. My husband and I have tried a lot of different things and there wasn't a bad item in the bunch. Everything is fresh and made to perfection. We took a tray of assorted cookies to friends in North Carolina and they couldn't stop eating them! Had their cookies at a Christening party, so I can't speak for service. However, these were the best Italian cookies that I think I have ever had. They served a variety and they were all sensational. It was that Classic Italian arrangement that I usually find completely horrid. But this time they were a treat! Almond cookies were loaded with marzipan- rich and delicious.
