The doorbell rings. I open the door cautiously…read more "Here's your order," says the smartly dressed young man, and pushes a brown bag inside. "All in there?" I inquire. He smiles, "You can check for yourself." I look inside the bag. "Yup, seems fine. Great doing business with you" "Wait." He pushes a pen in front of me, "I need your signature that you got the goods". I comply, and make polite conversation: "Business doing well?" "We're all sold out". He responds "I heard you were no longer selling wholesale?" "Yes". He responds solemnly. "The shop closed. We only do home delivery now". "Well, you've got great quality. I expect your customers will stay loyal". "I hope so." He responds, before waving me goodbye. I close the door, and excitedly turn the bag over. I can't wait to feed the addiction. And, out of the bag fall two small plastic boxes, each containing..... one dozen macarons :D So, yes - this is my crack: French macarons. AND, I get it delivered at home. But, there is no other option. Now that Tafu in Mid-town has closed, Mitzy Budiono, who bakes some of the best macarons in New York, sells her addictive goodies by fulfilling customers orders placed on her website. http://www.itzybitzypatisserie.com/ I don't think one needs to mention, that home delivery is a far more convenient option than trekking all the way to New Brunswick! I know, I know, all of you are just dying to rush past the guidos driving in for the weekend ;) Given the quality of her macarons, I am a loyal customer and have tried the 6 monthly flavors, for three consecutive months now. The recent month's (May's) flavors - Cabernet, Houjicha, Chocolate, Spicy Chocolate, Raspberry Chocolate, and Pistachio, have been more intense than those in the previous month (black sesame with azuki, Chocolate passion fruit, Jasmine, mango, chocolate Mint, and chocolate caramel), which I wasn't convinced were pulled off exceedingly well (by now I have lofty expectations of her product!). The taste for many of the Asian accented April flavors was far too subtle for me, even if I did appreciate that Mitzy used fresh mint (as opposed to extract) to draw out the flavor, and the black sesame was perhaps the best version I've had in macarons. Mitzy's macarons have some of the best shape, texture, and colors of those available in the city. They have excellent bite, reasonable quantity, and great quality of filling. I can condone the occasional lack of intensity in flavor for the compensating factor that her fillings aren't too sweet. While I adore Madeleine Patisserie, there are times when I find some of their flavors as excessively sweet. The only exasperation is to go through the (often slow) website to place an order, and hope that Mitzy has received it in time for her Saturday shipments. As you need to order at least two dozen macarons, make sure that you start a macaron pool with your friends ;) Count me out, for I am not sharing these with anyone! :)

And she has been quite a delight to deal with -- especially as I wanted to send a box over to Montreal, a city that isn't covered in her normal delivery range. I would urge anybody who is a macaron fan to go to her website and place an order. They are head and shoulders above other macarons that I have tried in my local area.

Dearest Gentle Readers,…read more It is with a heart full of both delight and delectable satisfaction that I report upon my greatest indulgence in the wee hamlet of Havre de Grace--a quaint establishment by the name of Les Petits Bisous. Its sweet storefront is nestled on the corner of Washington and Congress where, rumor has it, the very air carries a whisper of sugar and butter. What a charming revelation this shop has proven to be! Upon entering, one is immediately struck by the intoxicating aroma of freshly baked confections. It is as though the very essence of Paris has taken residence here, and who could resist such an invitation? The macarons--oh, those heavenly morsels! A truly exquisite array of flavors, from the traditional French vanilla to the more daring Mon Cheri, each offers an ethereal crisp bite followed by a soft, delicate interior. Truly, these little jewels could charm even the most discerning of palates. The éclairs are nothing to dismiss either--puffy, golden, and crowned with the most luxurious glaze, they are filled with a rich, velvety cream that promises to undo all notions of restraint. One could almost forgive the baker for such decadence, for the éclairs are simply beyond compare. And yet, this bakery does not rest upon the laurels of merely two offerings. No! Emily extends her talents to a variety of treats (many gluten free), each one more tempting than the last. She is kind, professional, and lends her talents to the tutelage of others in culinary pursuit. Truly, she is one of a kind! To write further, dear reader, would be to risk losing one's dignity in the process--though these sugary delights are, of course, a pleasure worth losing oneself to. In conclusion, let it be known that Les Petits Bisous has, without a doubt, earned a permanent place in my heart, if not my waistline. Yours ever indulgently, Lady Whistledown(ish)
