What a delightful place! You pick out your pastries from a long table and then sit at another table and drink coffee and eat your selections. The baked goods I got--an amazing, light, salty-sweet bread--maybe a pretzel bread of some sort? Or a cross between a pretzel bread and a challah? Almost like a popover? was warm and just out of the oven; a twisted cruller sprinkled with large crystal sugar; and a small, egg-sized vanilla cream doughnut, were all light, buttery, and absolutely delicious. The young man who waited on me was warm and friendly and helped me pick the things out. Definitely worth a trip out of your way--would be a great place to meet for a lazy weekend hang with friends. Came in 30 mins before they were closing and there was still a decent amount of baked goods left. There were a few samples put out for you to try which was great because there was a lot of new breads I've never seen before! We ended up grabbing 3 things to try. Everything we got was delicious. In love with this bakery! I just moved to the area and was so excited to see Sol Levante in my Yelp! search for "Asian bakery". My boyfriend and I love Asian-style breads and cakes, and we tend to crave them several times a month. I've already visited this bakery twice since I moved close by about 2 weeks ago. I had patbingsu (shaved ice) on my first visit and picked up a mango birthday cake on my second visit. Both the shaved ice and cake were sooo delicious, light, and refreshing! The small patbingsu serving is actually hugeee, and it's topped with fruits, condensed milk, and in-house mochi with red bean paste. It's not too sweet or heavy at all, and it's perfect for beating the summer heat or just to please a sweet tooth! As for the mango cake, it's seriously amazing. The cake was decorated with fresh fruits, and even came beautifully boxed and with candles. I opted for a small cake this time since my party of 4 planned to pig out at an AYCE Brazilian BBQ place earlier in the day. The steakhouse also had a dessert buffet, so we didn't think we'd end up craving much cake after. I was wrong--every single person wanted a second slice and I regretted not ordering a size up. When I picked up the cake, I received a few complimentary breads to try. What a warm welcome to the area and bakery! My boyfriend and I tried the breads the next day and each of them was unique in flavor, aromatic, and sooo soft still. I am already thinking about which cake to order next, and can't wait to try all the different types of pastries Sol Levante has to offer. I just got off my night shift and I was hungry for some breakfast. Decided to scope out local bakeries on my route home and see what my options were. This bakery is only 7 minutes from Einstein Medical Center and easily accessible from Cheltenham Drive. Once I saw the picture of the decadent croissant filled with whip cream and strawberries I was SOLD. Seeing as the bakery name was not in English I assumed that the bakery was French or European. Upon entry I immediately noticed large tables with rows of atypical shaped pastries with little cards listing the item in English and another description with Asian characters. I assumed Korean since a lot of the breads and pastries listed mung beans but I didn't see any signs listing these were Korean style pastries. I tried to ask the very nice lady ringing me up but she didn't understand my question, and I did want to ask if these were Korean and insult her if they were not. Long story short, Yelp reviews thankfully confirmed these are Korean style pastries! I am all about trying new authentic ethnic foods, so I was pleasantly surprised to find this hidden gem in a dull, uninspiring strip mall I pass by multiple times a day! The rice balls filled with cream are my favorite item I've tried so far. Like a fried donut filled with a slightly sweet paste. Freaking delicious. The Rice ball with mung bean paste (I assume), was our least favorite item so far. It's probably an acquired taste for mung bean delicacies! Highly encourage everyone in the Cheltenham area to check this place out! The oblong white and brown pastry tasted like coconut angel food cake. We like that one too. Just slightly sweet and as light as a cloud! It would be so good as a summer dessert as a sub for strawberry short bread! The croissant with whip cream and berries was huge and the berries very fresh. The whip cream was the perfect sweetness. It was huge and filling for only being $3!!! The owner also gifted me a plain croissant and little round pastry with raisins and walnuts. Not typically a fan of walnuts and raisins so I probably never would have bought this on my own!!! However it was absolutely amazing!!! Dense and heavy almost like a scone but moister and sweeter! I would definitely purchase this pastry in the future. A perfect pastry to go with a cup of coffee or tea. After I try the other items I purchased I will post pics and update my review. I absolutely love this place. I'm so glad they've finally reopened after the place next door fell down making them have to close up shop. They have the most delicious items and never disappoint. If you like Paris Baguette you'll LOVE Sol Levante. They have a few similar treats but overall 3-4x the inventory of bakery items, REASONABLE prices (Paris Baguette is annoyingly overpriced), and it's a local business. Overall I personally love knowing my dollar is going towards a family as opposed to a chain. Especially a business with such super warm hospitality. Every time I've gone I stop for one treat and end up getting at least a few items because of all the variety calling my name. They also always give a free item (or 2 or 3) when you get multiple things. It's truly a great experience and I hope to see more people coming by. They have quite an assortment. Although I was blindly choosing, almost everything looked good. I went with my eye and chose twisted rice donut. I was recommended the cream cheese roll and cake. The rice donut was pretty good and to my liking; the cheese roll was good but takes some getting used to; the cake was too simple and plain with a hint of sweetness. I came here after someone gave me a croissant with cream and fruit inside. It was really good--I recommend that. This bakery is my favorite and such a local gem. It may not get as much press or attention as Paris baguette or cafe bene but it's just as good if not better. It surpasses all other Korean bakeries not only bc of their breads and pastries but because their staff is SO nice. They greet literally every customer that comes through the doors and generously give free breads when you buy some. I came with my parents and grandmother and it was so sweet how they gave my grandma a few extra breads to take home. My coworker who lives close by also said they gave him some mocha bread for free because he said he had never had it before. They even sliced our loaves when we asked them if they could after we bought them. The staff are just so nice here and the place itself is really cozy. Would definitely recommend a classic red bean bread (patbang), chestnut bread, castella, and chestnut bread (my favorites). But honestly just buy whatever catches your eye :) also get the shaved ice (patbingsu) during the summer, it's the best on a hot day!! read more

If you're familiar with this area known for Asian bakeries and haven't been here yet, you are truly missing out. Sol Levante is much a smaller family owned bakery, and is much tastier than the bigger, more well-known ones in this neighborhood. I find it to be much more welcoming too. First of all, the smell grabs you when you walk in! Oh my goodness! Fresh baked deliciousness!! Insane! It's the same as the other bakeries in the sense that you grab your tray at the beginning, peruse the aisles, use tongs to self-serve your goodies, then pay at the counter. This space however has a couch and small bistro tables and gives less of a sterile chain feel, and more of a small cafe vibe. I've purchased their French macaron multi pack which I was a little weary about buying them pre packed but hubs assured me they were super fresh and light. The only thing with these he said is, each flavor kind of rubs off onto the others. He still enjoyed them very much. My girls who I have taken here as an after school treat have tried the flaky buttery croissant, the almond toast and the mini sesame buns, to name a few. All were very well liked but those sesame buns were definitely a favorite! My personal favorite however is the fried walnuts!! Amazing!! So amazing! So, so amazing! I stop by sometimes in the am when the place is empty just for an iced coffee which I find to be a better cup than that one real popular chain. The service is always friendly even to those of us who don't speak their language. The cashier ALWAYS hands us a complimentary sample of a new pastry to try when we purchase one! Such a great idea because I don't know that I would've tried those walnuts I adore if he hadn't given them to me first. They have so many good classic options....Sesame rice cake, mocha tapioca cake, green tea tapioca bread. Fresh cream toast. Everything is nicely laid out and accompanied by signs indicating what each pastry is. There are samples you can try. I got a sweet potato cake for my friend's birthday. It came with candles, plastic cake knife, and chocolate sign with "happy birthday " written on it by request. The girl working there didn't know, but she really made my day by giving me a couple free pastries on the house after a rough time looking for parking at the Hmart beforehand.
