This was the first coffee shop I tried when I moved to Philly, and let me tell you...it did not disappoint. The staff is beyond helpful, friendly, efficient, and kind. The crepes are DELICIOUS. The coffee is tasty, flavorful, and provides the energy boost one needs to get through the day. However, the outdoor tables in the quaintest little town may be my my favorite part. I was on the hunt for a café to work from for a little while, and came across High Point. It's a quaint neighborhood café that specializing crepes. They also have a variety of pastries and plenty of drinks to choose from. Like most cafes, you order at the counter. The servers were pleasant, and my order came out pretty quickly. I got the crepe special, which had egg, roasted potato, scallions cheddar cheese. It was quite enjoyable. I also had the wellness elixir, that had honey, lemon, ginger, and cayenne. So. Good! This place has great hippie vibes. We started with dirty chai that was light on the sweetness which is actually how I like it. Service was friendly and brought out our crepe shortly after. The crepes are great, and there are plenty of good vegetarian savory options, especially looking at the build your own option. The side salad is a highlight! We also tried the French toast crepe, which has an egg incorporated into the batter. Interesting. The espresso is good but the cappuccino is weird; they don't pour the milk through the crema at all, so it's mostly foam on top of a single shot. It can be folded through but I think next time I'd just get an espresso here. I really like that they have reusable cutlery and crockery, and service is brisk even when they're crowded. They also have a bunch of pastries if you're looking to grab and go. No parking lot but free street parking up to two hours. Friendly staff. read more

Once I've worked somewhere, I typically never want to go after leaving. It kinda ruins the environment for personal time, because I feel like I'm on the clock OR I learned something that made me uncomfortable dining there. This is a rare exception because the product and environment are just so dang good. (Both locations) It feels like what I imagined neighborhoods should embody when I was a kid. A feeling of connection. Reliable comfort. They clearly appreciate and work to be connected with and in support of their community. They make their syrups in-house and their pastries are fresh. Whenever I need a pick-me-up, I go there. (Which I have to limit because I want to buy out the pastry case every time.) The rotation of local artists on the walls! I could go on and on. High Point Cafe serves great coffee in the Mt. Airy neighborhood, however I felt uncomfortable dining here. I love their macchiato! Their espresso is never too bitter! It's smooth and easy to drink and the frothy milk make it more enjoyable! Their crepes here are solid too! We ordered a Ham, Cheese, & Caramelized onion crepe and it was enough for two people! Every time I've gotten coffee here, I always received unwanted stares from the staff as if I was out of place. Just waited for five minutes at the front register only to be told that the line started at the other end. OK cool no problem. Could've told me that when you ignored me for five minutes but that's besides the point. At that point, the barista, then serves her two friends/customers that walked in BLATANTLY 5 minutes after me. Legit ignoring me right to my face. To be honest, this was one of the most ignorant and disrespectful customer service experiences I've ever had. Shoutout to the small but fierce staple of Mt Airy Village! Along with the co-op, High Point is a critical part of the local scene. I love going there to treat myself to something tasty, or to indulge the kids. I love that there always seems to be a crew of neighbors around, including a standard crowd of Older Men Discussing Politics. I love that if you go there on a school morning, the staff will gently shoo out kids if it's too close to the start of the school day. Before COVID hit, my wife and I fantasized about how High Point needed to buy out the building next to it so it could expand -- the only negative is that the space is so tiny! In the times of COVID, High Point has been a wonderful way to continue to treat ourselves -- ordering online or over the phone to do pickups of the treats I can't make at home and the plain black coffee that tastes better simply by virtue of being brewed by someone else. Four stars as about a year ago -- 2021 -- I had a guacamole crepe I didn't care for.(I can't remember what it was called & I don't know if they offer it anymore as I can't find it on their online menu.) No matter I suppose because I was disappointed enough with that I didn't want to ever return as I figured I'd just be disappointed with this place again. Changed my mind, obviously, as last month (which was April 2022) I wanted to do some grocery shopping at Weavers Way which is across the street from High Point Cafe. I was hungry enoughfrom wherever I'd been I decided to give them another try. So glad I did as the things I ordered: dirty chai and 3 garlic biscuits ( I took one home) which I had toasted with some butter were superb, very tasty. I loved the buisuits' crispy texture, also. I should note that said the chai wasn't sweet enough for me so I needed to add more sugar to it to make it right for me. (I like a lot of sugar in my coffee & chais. I know that's not a good thing but since I'm NOT overweight at 5'7 1/2" 121 lbs I make an exception when it comes to that.) Another thing I was gailytaken aback with my biscuits WEREN'T overly buttered. The best thing about that I didn't have to say anything to the counter help regarding that. (On the latter point that's something I've been noting over the years: too many American diners, restaurants, cafes, etc are serving larger and and larger "individual serving sizes" (so-called). This is a great coffee shop in the Mt. Airy neighborhood. It is filled with regulars and they have incredible pastries and coffee. I got their cappuccino, which was expertly crafted. Their pastries are also equally delicious. It's a great place to hang out and spend time with friends. they don't have wifi so if you are coming to work, be prepared to hotspot in with your phone. This feels like a community staple and everyone who comes here really loves the people. Happy to check this off my list! read more

This place is a great little café! I came here with 2 friends around 9:30 on a Saturday morning before a hike at Wissahickon. This place gets very busy and there are not many tables, so I am glad we got there on the (somewhat) earlier side. We were lucky to snag a table! I ordered a café mocha and it was delicious! They also have non-dairy items for my friends who prefer those options! The coffee here was great! For my breakfast, I did the "build your own" crepe, and even though I was tempted by the sweet options, I went the savory route. I am so glad I did, it was absolutely fantastic! I also ordered with my eyes and got the mini apple pie to share with my friends at the table. Probably one of the best apple pies I have ever eaten! My friend got the pumpkin bar with brown butter icing, and even though Pumpkin isn't my favorite, this was a fantastic dessert. The pastry window here is very dangerous! I am glad I had bought the dessert to share, because the crepe was huge, but it was so worth tasting everything! The staff is extremely friendly, and the patrons (many locals, families, etc.) seem very friendly as well. My only negative is the tight seating area. A quaint coffee shop with friendly staff, DELICIOUS crepes, and, most importantly, great coffee. I highly recommend the Turkey, Spinach, and Cheddar crepe with the side of greens. Though if you're not a fan of kids, avoid this place at least from 10-11 on a weekday (in my case, Thursday), apparently. In the 30ish minutes I've been here, at least four separate groups of...babysitters? Daycare employees? with at least five 2-5 year olds each have come through to eat and run amuck. I get it and am not disparaging it (daycare workers and kids gotta eat, too) but just a warning to others who aren't so patient or tolerant of that. Lastly, the people watching is a treat here. I watched a twentysomething woman just walk in, stand in the middle of the "foyer" facing the door and proceed to undo and retie her...Baby Bjorn or body wrap purse thing (?) for five minutes and then just walk right back out. Although I've been to other High Point locations, their Mount Airy location far surpasses the rest. The cozy atmosphere on Carpenter and Greene really adds to this cafe's charm. I recently saw a sign for maple syrup lattes near the register and have since ordered one every Friday afternoon. The maple makes the latte perfectly sweet and rich. Another favorite of mine is their elixir: warm water or tea with honey and cayenne pepper. Spicy and comforting at the same time! Although the bill starts to add up after even just a small drink or two, it's worth coming here to treat yourself. read more

I love this cafe! Friendly, attentive service each time and their social distancing guidelines are in place. I went to visit the shop today but during my last visit, I arrived a few minutes before they were closing. The gentleman at the front window kindly informed me they were about to close but still welcomed me to place an order! I came in this little cafe as I was in the area apartment searching. The location was nice and quaint, very quiet street with small mom and pop shops all around and plenty of street parking. I did see a school across the street so I'm not sure if it is louder during release time but around 3pm when I went it was quiet. There was some outdoor seating nothing extravagant just a bench and a couple of tables. I ordered my turnover and plugged in my laptop to do my work then here's where I was completely shocked THEY HAVE NO WIFI. After confirming there was no WiFi I sat baffled how a cafe could have no WiFi not even paid WiFi. Then I looked at everyone who was on computers and a woman confessed she was using a hotspot. I just couldn't believe it. It's 2019 I feel like WiFi of some sort should be standard in a cafe. I'm sorry to the person reading this who is thinking "what a millennial" but tech runs the world and I was just really caught off guard. I'll get over it but I won't go back. read more

High points (HA!) for being on the cutest little block - right near my favorite co-op and favorite book store. But aside from location, the crepe and coffee that I (regularly) get at the High Point Cafe is always the perfect thing that I'm in the mood for and so tasty. This is a pretty tiny spot, and I would recommend against going when school is letting out (its right across from some school, and apparently kids like coffee and crepes... who knew?). The prices are so so reasonable and the guys behind the counter are always cool and chatty. I'm kind of salivating just thinking about the crepes - sweet and savory combinations like caramelized apple and cheddar, or spinach, onion and chevre. And I've been told to try their sticky buns...apparently, they are awesome! read more

I stopped in High Point to check it out last night after work as I explored Mt. Airy, not intending to buy anything. I wasn't in the mood for coffee, but ultimately I gave in to a fresh blueberry cupcake. Cupcake, you say, not a blueberry muffin? That's right! A delicate, cakey cupcake chock full of fresh blueberries, endowing the treat with an exquisite flavor I have never encountered in any of its muffin cousins. It was topped with a rich, sweet blueberry frosting, making it quite a decadent way to spoil my dinner. The gal behind the counter was charming and helpful, and gave the cupcake such a great pitch that I couldn't resist. Downside: $3.25 seems like a lot for a cupcake, but at least it was a darn good one. I definitely plan on returning to sample the coffee, crepes, and other pastry options. read more

What can I say? Every time I venture in, it becomes the high point of my day and eventually my week. These are the neighbors you may or may not know who are ALWAYS incredibly cheerful, gracious and kind. Whose swift 'n steady hands serve you up somethin' special and delectable, and always with a smile. Others have noted it and they're dead on: insanely friendly staff. Everything is delicious. My au lait is always perfection. Rich, flavorful coffee engulfed by sumptuous, creamy foam. It ain't often folks get romantically entranced by foam, but just you taste and tell me your tongue hasn't met a pillow of love ... Okay. A bit much maybe so I'll talk about the pastries. Choose any one. Biscuit. Scone. Egg popper. Even the gluten free treats are tasty. (Yeah I said it. Y'all know you see gluten and brace your tastebuds for the mealy, cardboardia. I have been here twice and since I haven't had the food, I probably shouldn't be reviewing. But here's what I did get out of the place: a great sense of community. Both times I visited I was in the neighborhood visiting Weaver's Way, a co-op across the street, and I only stopped at High Point to grab a coffee. Both times the coffees were excellent. The "small" size is a bit on the "small" side, so watch out! But the place allows you a mug if you're sticking around to drink your beverage. The walls are all plastered with local artists' work, which is great. Reminds me of Portland, Maine in a way. And there are a ton of community postings--flyers, advertisements--as well, so if you're looking for an apartment, event, or club in the area, this is the place to find it. I think I even saw an advertisement for a Singles Scrabble Club somewhere in there. Last but not least: crowd. High Point is usually jam-packed, so have fun trying to find a seat, at least in the late morning or around noon. I suspect that it stays packed most of the day. The types of people are very diverse. You've got sitters and mothers (sorry to be stereotypical, but it's based on empirical evidence!) watching their kids, you've got small groups of two or three working on business, you'll see young writer and artist-types scribbling away in their notebooks. Older couples meeting up. Young professionals stopping in for a bite to eat. The food at the place did look pretty good, actually. This place reeks of hipsters and patchouli. There are a lot of women who probably don't vaccinate their kids or shave their legs and haven't washed their crocs in weeks. It's a bit cramped and the street parking is weird af. It's a very low key and friendly neighborhood. The coffee however is excellent, the service is great and the prices are decent. Stopped in here before going on a hike at Wissahickon park and was super impressed! This place is really quaint and very busy on the weekends - I'd imagine earlier is better, but I could be wrong. The crowd was a mixture of locals: kids, families, and your average coffee lover. I ordered a chai tea made with rice milk (ps... this is the first coffee shop that I've ever been to that offers rice milk as non-dairy option and I was super impressed) and I "built" my own crepe. Not knowing the size of the quiche, I was also tempted by a pumpkin bar topped with brown butter icing in the pastries window (damn you, pasties window!). While the pumpkin bar was like a bite of heaven, I definitely did not need so much food because the crepe was huge! A friend got the mini apple pie, which was also delicious with her crepe and we agreed it was too much food. The space is tight though and it was hard to find an open table at 9:30 on a Saturday morning.
