Family party/first time at Nola's--easily the classiest dinner venue in Clinton. Wine list (by glass and bottle) is decent with daily specials and reasonably priced. Burgers feature grass fed beef from local farms-served on ciabata bread are outstanding, but if you want Medium, order Rare. The risotto was surpringly good, but the fish dish reminded how far away Clinton is from the coast. Friendly, comfortable atmosphere; earnest wait staff--a good find. read more

This is our third time here and it's been hit and miss. The salad was uneventful. The lobster and shrimp bisque was good but tastes more tomatoey than lobster-y. My husband liked the fish fry (haddock), fish was fresh and breading was crisp but needed more flavor. Thank goodness for sriracha! I had the special- pan fried soft-shell crab, shrimp and mussel in a fennel broth with rice. Rice was raw except for the bottom part that was sitting in broth. Mussels were good. Pan-fried soft shell crab should have been crispier, otherwise you might as well be eating a candy wrapper. Our server was great, though! read more

Nola's is one of those must eat places every time I'm in the Utica area. The fried eggplant sandwich is one of my all time favorite sandwiches...ever. Nola's for lunch is really great but Nola's for dinner is a different story. I've tried dinner several times here and the food just doesn't seem to be as good as the lunch. read more

Fist time up here off a recommendation for mothers say dinner tonight. I'm not doing it a perfect rating due to Attire of wait staff, and the fact that they have a great thing going in a rural area, and will not take call ahead. Now onto the good stuff. Although when we got there there was an hour wait, they cleverly partner with a wine bar next door called Annex which is delightful and a good way to kill time. They told us an hour Nd we wre seated in 45. They actually came next door to get us to tell us table was ready. Wine selection and specialty drinks very good. Cocktails however went down a limited avenue of tart with a lemon lime kind of theme. Special app Briskit was cooked well and paired nice with a BBQ flavor with apple flavoring, entrees we all tried st Nicholas ny strip, ribeye, halibut all incredibly tasty. Special rib chop cooked well but bland for herb flavored. All complimented correctly Witt tasty sides. The three stars is to get your attention. We ate there twice in a week, once for dinner and once for lunch. The food was good except for truly dreadful cornbread. I do not know what they were thinking with that- it was so dry it was desiccated. Also it was $4.50 for a slice- huh?! Dinners there are expensive but we are willing to pay for good food. Be forewarned it is quite noisy in there. It cost us $165 for four people with appetizers, drinks and dinner entrees. During weekday lunch they apparently forgot the order and when we inquired about the passage of time the server barked " you wanted the bacon well done" for the BLT, which was a regular menu item so not sure what prompted the snippy attitude. The lunch prices are reasonable. For three of us for sandwiches and drinks it cost $45. We probably will go back, but we hope they take this feedback to heart. read more

We went with out-of-town guests. One had the special, a yellowtail tuna dish, which he said was delicious. The other three had a baked haddock 'special', which was probably the worst fish dish we've ever had. It was a white blob on the plate, seasoned with salt and pepper, accompanied by white rice and steamed spinach. It was bland and dry - tasteless. The restaurant was busy, so maybe we selected the 'wrong' entree, but shouldn't the kitchen make every dish attractive and tasty? read more

I have been to Nola's in the past. Excellent. Sad to say that today was mediocre at best. Seated in Annex like sardines. I had the smoked turkey, Brie and apple sandwich. Very dry. Could have use a Dijon or honey mustard sauce. Potatoes chips soggy in center. My friend has fried fish sandwich and was also not impressed. 13$ for a glass of wine!!!!!!!! Over the last year I have visited Nola's a number of times, and every time, I am disappointed. During our most recent and final trip to Nola's, I ordered the soup of the day, which was a tomato black eye pea. It was bland and watery, similar to canned soup. I waited for over 10 minutes for our server to check on us, and eventually had to flag down another server to find her. When she finally came, I told her that I did not like the soup and asked for the check. The server showed no interest or concern, simply stated "OK" and took the full cup of soup away from the table. Our check arrived with the charge for the soup still present. When I alerted the server to the mistake on the check, she stated "Unfortunately, it is not our fault that you do not like the soup. You will have to pay for it." I was in shock. I refuse to pay for bad soup that I did not even eat. The server became defensive, raised her voice, and began interrogating me about the quality of the soup. The service at Nola's which is usually sluggish at best was now wildly inappropriate and alienating. Flustered, we stood up and left. I will not be returning to this restaurant or it's sister Annex Wine Bar. read more

Went to a company function at Nola's, waitress was extremely rude when I was the first to walk in of my party without any others. Service was slow, and the waitress was difficult to find when needed. Towards the end of the night, the waitress decided to stop serving one of the gentleman in my party. Following up with the manager we were told that the "Woman requesting service was slumped in her seat".....it was a man, that I personally was conversing with and was not slumped over, nor in the slightest bit intoxicated. Our party was also accused of guests leaving because they wouldn't service underaged patrons - Mind you, the service of alcohol was not the issue when guests chose to leave. Regardless the waitress was extremely short and rude to our group the entire evening. We were also told by the manager that the waitresses frustration was due to the size of our party changing, I am not sure why on earth that would be a reason to poorly service a table that still spent well over 300$. I think it is only human nature to be understanding when people have to take off due to unforeseen circumstances regardless of being late... which the manager also felt the need to point out. Yes, some of our employees were late. However Nola's also moved our reservation from 7pm to 745pm the day of, which can be a little difficult for people with children. Perhaps the saddest thing about the upcoming graduation of my daughter from Hamilton College is that I will no longer be dining at Nola's in Clinton, NY two or three times a year. This place would have a national reputation if it was in Washington or New York or Philly. Superb and inventive cuisine from local sources, friendly service, fair pricing, a nice wine list, and the kind of quirky, honest, funkiness that comes from being in a small college town. I have never had a bad meal in the 6 years I have been a patron. Located on the lovely Village Green of Clinton, it is a beautiful setting for a relaxing meal and a wonderful venue for those parent-student dinners. I will miss this place a lot and it will be an indelible part of our family's memories of my daughter's years at college. Don't miss it! read more

Went here to eat and was really impressed with the dining, ambiance, servers, and food. The dining was very comforting, felt formal and casual at the same time. The servers were very nice and ready to help. the food, of course was the better part of the meal. Nola's cracks me up. My wife and I had come home to Clinton after enjoying the 4 course NYE dinner at the Tailor and the Cook. We rolled into Nola's at 20 to ten to have a night cap. The bartenders, who looked a bit pissed to have two potential customers to deal with, informed us that the kitchen was closed. When informed that we only wanted a drink we were told that was impossible. So silly. So inward focused. So "customers are an unfortunate hassle to deal with." Happy New Year. read more

There aren't too many places to eat in Clinton, so if I'm going to go out for a nice dining experiences my options are limited, but I would definitely choose Nola's. I've only been here for dinner twice, but I've enjoyed my meal both times. I also like the atmosphere of the restaurant, even though it is loud, which makes it a little difficult to have conversation. Service has been decent during my dining experiences also, not great or horrible. While I really do think it's the best place in Clinton, I still don't go here a lot because it is a little pricey and the menu is limited. read more

We have been eating at Nolas since they opened. It has always been hit or miss,but we kept trying and like to support local independently owned businesses. Today I took a friend for lunch ( did not know they were serving) and it was awful. I ordered their 12dollar burger medium rare,it arrived well done on a tired store bought roll, old French fries( some cooked some not)and about two ounces of beef. Sad to say I'm all done with Nolas, not to mention no towels in the bathroom, tried to seat us in the very back of an empty restaurant at a too small table! read more

I was attending a company Christmas Dinner. We were a small party of 5, all middle aged adults. In all my years of frequenting bars and dining out, I have never been "cut off". I am a local from the Utica area and a working professional. Service that evening was lack luster to begin with. But, since it was near the holidays and our table was having fun, there was no need to complain. After we finished our meals, we were going to have another drink. The waitress quite rudely informed us that our table was "cut off" and could no longer order drinks. Just to reiterate, we were having a company Christmas Dinner, very mellow evening. We just shrugged it off as really poor service and went on about our evenings. Well, after the owner of the company left a bad review, the owner of Nola's actually started calling and harassing him. This goes way beyond unprofessional into the realm of insane. This restaurant should be avoided all cost. There are so many wonderful places in the Clinton/Utica area that treat their guests with respect and provide amazing service. Not Nola's. Nola's is 100% classless. read more

Tonight was our 3rd visit to Nolas and once again what a wonderful experience we had. We made a reservation for 6:30 but decided to arrive early and have a drink at the bar. My son and I each had a beer but my wife opted for a selection from their drink menu and ordered a Rosemary Hibiscus cocktail. Bartender and Chef Tony crafted the drink and it was fantastic, she let me taste it. We requested seating near the front window which they accommodated and we proceeded to have a fabulous meal. My wife ordered the Chicken Nola which she loved. My son ordered the soup of the day, tomato coconut and the pork chop entry and he enjoyed every drop. I ordered the oysters gazpacho appetizer special and the scallops entree and both were just fantastic. We ended with pina colada creme brulee...OMG!! Heather was our server and she was fantastic! As local innkeepers of The Arbor Inn & Williams Street Lodging (www.lodginginclinton.com) it is very important that we try a restaurant ourselves before we recommend it to our guests. Since Nola's had been closed for a remodel we wanted to check out their new décor. The new color scheme is very warm and inviting and the new dining chairs are not only ultra stylish but very comfortable. Both our meals were delicious. One of us had the Lobster Mac 'n Cheese (a favorite) and one of us tried the nightly special of Scallops. Both were very tasty and just the right size serving. One thing we like about Nola's is that they include a nice house salad with your meal as well as a breadbasket with warm roll and butter. We are very luck to have this fine dining restaurant in the charming Village of Clinton. read more

Went last night for New Year's Eve dinner and was looking forward very much to having a great time with my elderly mother who was looking forward very much to the special-outing dinner as well. The evening was a disaster on wheels. When we arrived, the wait staff person did not find our name on the list of reservations even though we had confirmed three days earlier and reconfirmed that morning. Then we were told that yes, of course they had our name, ... but we waited in the bar for twenty-five minutes. We were told that the holdup was a very large take-out order that had just been... taken out. Seriously?? After we were seated, we did nothing but wait wait wait wait wait. For each course. Interminably. They finally told us that the holdup in the kitchen was all about.. mashed potatoes. Really?? WTF? And then they mixed up our orders (my mom had ordered her steak rare, and mine was medium) and we didn't get this properly worked out until we had each practically finished our meal. The chocolate mousse for dessert: we ordered it hoping it would help us forget the insult of all of the two and a half hours of mostly WAITING that we had spent in this place. Isn't mousse supposed to be... light and airy...? This was dense and scary. The wait staff was friendly and courteous and welcoming but the endless WAITING was extremely annoying. Very very disappointing. Plus they brought us no bread during the initial interminable wait, so my poor mom was famished by the time the actual food started to trickle in.
